It was a self-guided walk through (and some merchandise like books) of unusual, haunted, and fantasy. The exhibit had cool effects and was very impressive experience. I recognized displays like Alice in Wonderland. There were something that were for purchase like books, novelty items, and etc. I didn't notice the prices at all, but the lady that welcomed us into the shop was very nice. Curoporium is a curiosity shop that opened in Hartford, Connecticut in September 2018. It was…read morefounded by entrepreneur Nathan Nunez. Although raised Catholic, Nunez was interested in the mysticism aspect of other religions, such as Buddhism, Wicca, Paganism, etc. He had an idea to open a curiosity shop where he could give customers an interactive and immersive haunted "shop-sperience". Opening at a mixed use building in the Parkville section of Hartford, Curioporium became host to a variety of special events, such as musical performances, séances, magic shows, and even photos with Krampus at Christmas time. In March 2025, Nunez relocated Curioporium to Factory Square in Southington. My older son and I recently stopped at Curioporium while we were visiting Factory Square. We were about to head to GameCraft down the hall when we suddenly noticed some spooky sounds emanating from Curioporium. We decided to enter and investigate. The shelves of the shop were lined with all sorts of creepy objects, such as occult books, shrunken heads, skulls, bugs, torture devices, laboratory equipment, magic wands, potions & elixirs, healing crystals, talismans, and lots of other creepy items. An Oddity & Curiosity Bar at the back of the space gives customers a chance to craft a very different sort of cocktail (or shall I say "wet specimen") that may contain a sheep eye, pig heart, or some other putrid ingredient. One of the creepiest items we saw on display was the "Mirror of Hades": a noisy mirror that seemed to be possessed by evil spirits. My son refused to go anywhere near it. After spending a good amount of time in the shop, my son decided that he had his fill of frightening things for quite some time and asked if we could leave. Although our visit was brief, there's a very good chance that I'll be making a solo return trip so I can explore Curioporium and all that it has to offer in greater detail.

If you love unique, one of a kind pieces that are cool, yet timeless.. you must pay them a visit. The store is so well curated. You feel more like you're rummaging through your cool friend's closet than a retail store. I left with 4 pieces of clothing and some glassware. Each one is a gem and will all be closet staples. Everything was curated by the owner (also very nice). The items were great and they have good taste! Prices were pretty affordable too. I bought a handmade Canton sign for $33, handmade soap, matchbox toy car, candy, and some buttons. If you love vintage or looking for gifts or home goods, I highly recommend a visit.

I was spending a few days staying with some friends in Middletown last week and had some time to…read morekill on Saturday. What's the best thing to do when that happens? Obviously it's to check out some antique centers and the first one we checked out was Forest City Merchants. This antique centre is located inside of what looks like an old factory building and has a pretty decent amount of space. The floor itself is separated by some small walls and there's a few separate rooms throughout the building. I spent maybe twenty minutes or so wandering around without finding anything, but hey, you could go to the same antique center once a week for a year and hit the absolute biggest jackpot one week and then strike out 49 weeks in a row, so that's just what happened on this day. I did see some cool action figures and such, and luckily it didn't appear that any of the booths here had Temu garbage. Overall, Forest City Merchants was a solid antique center to walk through and certainly a place to check out if you are in the area. I'll definitely be back in the future since I'll be staying in Middletown again.

I've been furnishing an older home in the Berkshires for about a year and a half, and compared to the Fairfield County area (the old Mongers Market, Our Place, etc.) I find this shop to be perfect. I've been splitting time between NW CT and Western Mass for neat finds. Like most spots, you need to be able to maneuver in small spaces in most booths. You also need to be able to crouch down and stand back up now and then, or bring someone with you who can. I did not consider any of the prices I encountered to be over the top, and there's plenty of parking. There is also a lot of variety and unique finds. I highly recommend it if you're in the market for some treasures. I know I will definitely be back soon.

I did find a very nice solid oak sofa table to refinish here last time, though, for only $50, so if you're here anyway for the affordable stuff, you might find a stray diamond in the rough.
