We had been going to bent fork bakery about once a week - while the baked goods are good, the staff is not friendly. Yesterday, my 4 year old and I were there and ordering cookies for my husband's birthday. We were midorder, and my 4 year old turned to me and said that she had to go potty urgently. The staff refused to let her use the bathroom - which she has used once before - and then one of the owners came out and said we had to go to Walgreens down the street. By the time we got there, my child had an accident. A bakery that caters to kids should not be so cold to their little customers! We will not be back. read more

There was a slight misunderstanding on the phone and we didn't get the filling we had ordered but at the end of the day it wasn't a big deal and it was still delicious. We have been going here for years. They stayed open during the pandemic and we were so grateful. The owners are wonderful and so friendly. Placed a phone order days ago for pick up this am. When I arrived they could not find the order for quite a bit and said oh we have it dated tomorrow. No apology or anything o know I said today because were leaving town today for an event. They said if I could wait they could frost and decorate the cupcakes I ordered. I told them unfortunately I didn't have the time. I said it's okay I'll choose from the case. I did so and realized after I left I got charged twice on my credit card. I called and said I was disappointed that order was not ready and I was very calm about it because mistakes happen. She said we will credit me for the extra charge. My sister and went to pick up the cake 30minutes before closing time (we're sorry! We did drive over 30minutes to see this cute bakery), and whoever the front lady/girl is definitely seemed annoyed. I happened to be driving through the area and decided to stop by. They have a bunch of different flavored cupcakes, brownies/blondies, tarts, pies, and cakes. I wanted to try some of everything but decided to rein in my gluttony. I ended up getting a coconut cupcake and the s'mores baby cake for my friends. Tucked away in Highwood, is this little cute bakery with a display full of yummy and delicious cookies, cakes, pies, cupcakes, etc. It is amazing here and so cute on the inside, you must try it! I have had their pecan pie which is delicious, and their oatmeal white chocolate cranberry pistachio cookies, amazing. How do they get it that texture?? That perfect chewiness. Gosh if I was able to go there every day and not gain weight, I totally would! Mmm as for the service, I've never really had a bad time inside. Liz was so easy to work with and detail oriented. I honestly wasn't sure how it'd turn out since half naked cake wasn't part of their catalog, but Liz made perfect creation of my vision. WHAT I LOVE: Cookies - molasses & toffee Cupcakes - perfect cake to frosting ratio, all flavors but I am particularly partial to the red velvet Pies - love all the rustic fruit pies Jewish treats - hamentashen & chocolate dipped coconut macaroons. WHAT I DON'T LOVE: Cake decorating is not very refined. If you are looking for that delicate, intricately decorated cake look elsewhere. The decorating here is more homey than artwork. While I didn't love my trip to the suburbs, I totally fell in love with this little bakery. It's super cute and kitschy inside, and the staff were super friendly and not too pushy. They have so many options that it was really hard to only get a few for my ride back to the city on the metra. I got a couple cookies and a little mini loaf of chocolate chip bread. Best Wedding Cake Ever- flavor and price!!! My husband and I just got married on October 10th at the Woman's Club of Evanston. We are originally from Louisiana, but had a destination wedding in Evanston, IL. Not being local to Chicago or having family/friends around for recommendations makes it very tough to find quality vendors when planning a wedding out of state! We were referred to the Bent Fork Bakery for our wedding and grooms cakes by our florist, and WOW!! Liz and her team blew us away with the most delicious cakes ever!!! We had 1 consultation and cake tasting with Liz. From the very beginning she was so sweet and friendly, and was always quick to answer my emails and questions- and I had lots! I enjoy a delicious cake, and for my wedding I wanted different flavors in each tier of the cake. My tasting consisted of about 9 different cake/icing/buttercream combinations. EACH ONE WAS SO GOOD. I wanted to have every flavor, but I settled on these four: traditional almond cake with almond buttercream, chocolate cake with mocha buttercream, pistachio almond cake with almond buttercream, and finally pumpkin cake with a cinnamon cream cheese filling. OMG... my mouth is watering for all of these just thinking about them. This cake was the most moist, delicious, perfectly sweet cake I've ever tasted, and all of our wedding guests RAVED about our cake!! Trust me... order your wedding cake from Liz at the Bent Fork! My husband had a traditional cinnamon king cake as his groom's cake, and once again we were blown away with this cake as well! Being from New Orleans we know good king cake, and this one was incredible! Last, but not least, the price of a 3 tiered wedding cake with 1 tier wrapped in fondant, a 10" "kitchen cake" (so that we could serve a 4th delicious cake flavor!) and a small king cake cost us less than $400, travel/delivery fee included!!! This was so amazing to me as I priced out other bakeries in the Chicago area, and was quoted well over $700 for just a 3-tier wedding cake. My caterer (the fabulous Nikee with Hel's Kitchen) used Bent Fork for our wedding cake at our July 2010 wedding. We wanted a cupcake tower with assorted flavors and a small cake on top for us to cut. Oh my goodness---talk about delicious! People loved them. We ended up with lemon, malted milk ball, strawberry and vanilla with chocolate frosting. The lemon was my favorite, but they were all amazing. Luckily, we had quite a few left over and could enjoy them for the rest of the 4th of July weekend. I am extremely pleased with them and am happy to provide pictures of our cupcake tower with Bent Fork's delicious treasures. It looked adorable! My only gripe was that it was hard to schedule a tasting because we were just doing cupcakes. I finally had my mother just stop in one day and pick up a dozen different flavors for all of us to try. But it all worked out fine and everyone loved the delicious treats. I'm sure I'll be sampling more of them soon! read more

Our go-to bakery for cakes and cupcakes on the North Shore. Their cakes are consistently moist, rich, the right density, and very flavorful. I'm more of a cake guy than a frosting guy and I find Bent Fork to be superior to competitors on that basis. Their frostings are very good, just not overly treacly sweet --- some folks like that instead. It's more of a mom-and-pop shop and the service and decor match that expectation. For me, that is a plus. I've had very good experience on the whole and they can handle challenging orders like Easter three-dimensional lamb cakes and whatnot. Really worth checking out and they have a nice assortment available for walk-in... just picked up a half dozen cupcakes today. read more
