Don't order the Bruschetta grilled cheese unless you just want warmed up Texas toast with a few flavorless ingredients inside with some shitty purée tomato soup that's not much better then Campbell's. First of all my boyfriend and I love this place. We are locals and come here pretty often. The atmosphere is perfect after a long day at work and the bartenders are always on point when I need a stiff cocktail. For the first time we came in on a Sunday and were waited on by Anastasia who we have had once before. Not only is she super attentive, genuine, and outgoing but she is really knowledgeable about the menu. My BF has a nut allergy and she went the extra mile to make sure he was ok. She recommended a great cocktail for me and a couple different beers for nick as well as the short rib nachos. OH MY GOD those nachos were amazing! How have a never had them before! Tried this place several times. Kept hoping it would be better. Like the location and open-air feel. And yet...Mediocre food. Terrible, aloof service. It's rather expensive for the quality of food and crummy service. It is simply meh. Oh, and one time the bar tender was bashing Taco Stand across the street to a customer, who inquired about its line. I thought that was rich, considering the food and service at that joint is exceptionally better. Professional jealousy perhaps? My advice: Take a pass. read more

Fantastic experience here. Sat at the bar for a couple of beers as well as a blood orange margarita, all great. My bartender, Amber, was attentive, informative and friendly all through the weeds of the dinner rush. She gave me great recommendations on the beer as well as other fun things to do while I'm in town for only 2 days. I've heard really good reviews about this place, and I work in downtown Encinitas and often suggest to tourist to check this place out, but only recently had checked it out myself. The food was decent but for what is was I found it a little overpriced. The service was poor, my friend and I waited about 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order and then the drinks didn't arrive for another 10 minutes or so. I will continue to suggest this place to tourist because of the good things I've heard but personally I will not be returning again. read more

After several visits here with friends, I have to tell everyone, love the location on 101, atmosphere is excellent but food disappointing. My friend loved her salad. I really recommend the Brussels sprouts appetizer but DO NOT order the fish and chips. All batter (which I removed),very heavy batter and a bit over cooked. Too greasy of a dish. Our server was amazing. Great atmosphere. My boyfriend and I came here on super bowl Sunday and there was no wait time. We were able to order drinks right away. I got the hearty Bloody Mary which was really tasty. It had a bacon slice, cheese cube, pepperocini, slim Jim stick, along with the normal Mary fixins. We started out with the beer cheese pretzel balls which were to die for! I got the short rib nachos which were soooo delicious! So many good toppings like melty cheese, tender short rib, queso, chipotle cream, diced mango, corn, salsa. My boyfriend had the cheeseburger 101 with fries which he really liked as well. This place is perfect anytime a day, any day of the week! Food is good, beers are great, and the service was outstanding. I have been here a few times now and am never disappointed. When there is a game on that I want to watch, the servers don't hesitate to accommodate any request I may have (as long as no one is watching the other TVs). The service is quick and everyone there is extremely friendly! One particular great experience I had was a couple weeks ago. I was there with a couple friends on a Saturday night grabbing some drinks before heading to another bar. As I got up from my seat to walk around, someone rudely bumped into me and knocked over my drink. This situation could have escalated and gone a different direction, but the bouncer ( I think his name was Lance?? Tall, skinny guy) came up to mediate the situation by offering to buy me another drink. It was extremely nice and we ended up staying there the rest of the night until they closed. This was my second trip to the Bier Garden for brunch. My husband and I enjoyed our first experience... The food was good and the service was great (4-5 stars). Today however was a much different story (1 star worthy). Several tables were occupied, but it was not exactly a full house. Our server brought us water while we reviewed the menu. It took awhile for her to come back and take our drink order. We were ready to place our food order but she left before we could say anything. After a few more minutes, our drinks (coffee and a cocktail) were delivered by another server. It seemed like ages before our food order was taken. The food was delivered by a third person. We had to ask her for a refill on the coffee because my husband's cup had been empty for awhile. Our original server did a quick "how is everything?" as she walked by to another table. She looked like she was going to approach our table again but stopped when she saw I had a couple bites of food left. At this point, I was happy with my drink and the meal but was either ready for another drink or to just leave. After staring at our empty dishes and glasses for a little while, our server was nowhere to be found. I went up to the bar where I was unacknowledged. I returned to the table when I saw the server come around the corner with the bill. I was standing next to the table with my credit card in hand but she just dropped the bill and walked away. We waited a few more minutes for her to return but when she didn't, I tried to pay at the bar. I handed my card to the bartender asking to cash out and he said our server would bring us the receipt. She returned looking annoyed, but didn't say a word as she gave us the receipt. A simple "thanks", "sorry for the wait", or "enjoy the rest of your day" would have improved the experience. Silence without a smile left us feeling like we were an inconvenience. Overall, our main server seemed unfriendly, unavailable, and rude. I go out to eat in search of tasty food, ambiance, and great service. Sadly, I will probably not return, even though I enjoy the food and atmosphere, because this restaurant does not seem to appreciate the business of its patrons. read more

Not that impressed. Menu is totally overpriced. Fashionable and trendy Gastropub in Encinitas sells a wedge salad for $12, what's the margin on that, 90%?? We also had the hangar steak $22. The flavor was terrible. Apparently the chef or line cooks haven't heard of salt and pepper. Service was so-so. I am growing tired of all of these high priced trendy places that are just mediocre. I think this place is nice to come to for a beer and to spend time with friends. They have a decent beer list and the staff was friendly and made great beer selections for both myself and my friends. Every time I have come here I usually just stay for a drink and therefore can't really comment on the food. The one time I did order it was a very busy day and the food was just ok. My potatoes were undercooked, but when the waitress brought out another serving in their place they were pretty good. i think it was just an off day for them, because I have heard some great things about the food. read more

I went there for breakfast and I could tell it was going to be an awesome place right away. The Bloody Mary was very good but expensive. I got the Big Boy Breakfast Sandwich and this is where I was very disappointed. They try to appeal making it look like a huge modern trendy sandwich and I will not lie it looked good. It was one of those sandwiches you post on Instagram. As far as eating goes, I was not impressed. The bread was so thick and the thing was so massive that you could not hold it without making a huge mess. I proceeded to use a fork to eat it. After I finished the egg inside I was left with a loaf of bread and a tomato. What I paid 13$ for I do not know. It is a cool place to have an expensive beer and soak in the hipster atmosphere but I would not recommend eating here. read more

We live up the street in Encinitas and frequent this spot for breakfast and weekend drinks. The food is great. Breakfast environment is usually tame and not crowded. Good bloody marys and basic breakfast menu. For lunch and dinner it can get a bit crowded. That would be my only rub on the place is that it's pretty small so stopping in for drinks can sometimes be a crowded experience. But if you're in the downtown Encinitas area, it's one of my favorite bars. read more

Horrible place. The staff is the worst I have ever seen in a long time. You would think being a new (hip) place in Encinitas that the staff would be on there game. Hah. Straight up joke. Waitresses are stuck up and cocky, not to mention it took 15 min just to get someone to our table and another 20 min to get the first round of drinks. Also when we tired to go there after opening day they would not even let us in. The bouncers outside were super short and just plain rude. My wife doesn't even drink and they were accusing her of being over the limit.....what a bunch of jokers. I know it is a new place and the city of Encinitas is coming down hard on business but honestly learn how to treat customers that are funding your business and making your paycheck. read more

The wifie (or is that wify) and I went here the other night for a date night. As grandma had the kids and well, anytime we can go out together to a place that does not include some sort of character or gimmick to help sell the kids, we are totally on board for! It is noisy and having been married for 20 years I can only assume it is a great place for a first date as you would have a lot of distractions if there is ever a lull in the conversation. For a couple that is, well, experienced... lets just say we were thankful we were able to get a table, back in the corner on the patio. They had a nice selection of adult beverages, they did seem a bit pricey. The burger was really good. We were not impressed with the fish tacos. But we are locals and are connoisseur of fish tacos (at least in our ever so humble opinions). We did not order any, however the appetizers did look really good. Fun, noisy place, kind of yuppie or hipster, I am not really sure what that means anymore or what the difference it is, but I'd go back. read more

Came here on a whim with my girlfriend because I had heard good things! I was going to get a beer but I decided against it for "smoked" old fashioned which was just alright not the best I've had but not the worst either. The star of the show was hands down the food we ordered. My girl got the wedge with extra bacon and man I gotta tell ya that is one of the best looking wedges I've ever seen and I've been in the industry for 15 years it was big and loaded with toppings and it looked like it could fill me up and I'm a big boy. I got the pork belly burger and it was EPIC! literally one of the best burgers I've had in such a long time! Not only was it cooked perfectly, the bacon / pork belly with some of the best I've ever had. Not to mention that the chef Melissa came over to our table to personally ask us how the food was. Our server Anastasia was a total sweetheart and was quick and met our needs without being intrusive. I haven't found a place in San Diego yet that has better bloody Mary's than this place. My favorite is the herbal anddd you get a beer chaser with it. They have a pretty good beer list, food is decent but nothing extraordinary. I do love the indoor/outdoor set up of this place, I just wish it wasn't located in such a condensed area. It would be an even better place if the outdoor seating area was expanded and more open. Overall though, this is a good place to hangout and grab a couple drinks if you're in Encinitas! read more

I can't say enough good things about the Bier Garden in Encinitas. The food is consistently good, always a great crowd, and a great beer selection. AMAZING! Food was out of this world!!! Tried the farmhouse burger and all the flavors meshed so well it was an explosion in my mouth! Also tried the special of the night the cioppino which also was fabulous! Great atmosphere and decor and feel through out the restaurant! They were very busy but didn't have to wait to be seated because we opted for the community table which was still intimate and enjoyable. Very disappointing lunch. Ordered the Spinach and Artichoke dip, the chips were stale. The dip itself was alright. Worst part was the Bier Pretzel appetizer. It came with about 7 pretzel balls, some Velveeta cheese and some decent mustard, all for about $11. ~$1.50 per little pretzel ball. I was in there on Saturday with some friends for food and drinks and everything was amazing! The pork belly burger was amazing and the spicy margaritas were delicious! Visited here with my SO and had some great drinks- The Apple Cider Mule was one of my favorites. The bar tender "Anthrax" came over to our table several times and made us feel incredibly welcome. He enjoys taking a liquor that you don't enjoy and making a drink with it that you WILL enjoy (for those who are brave enough). I stated that gin was not my favorite and he brought out a drink of gin, lemon, bitters, soda water, and cucumber... SO GOOD! He even brought us ice water in to-go cups when the bar closed! I had a great experience here! It is located in Encinitas on 101 coast highway next to whole foods. It is just a great atmosphere. You seat yourself to a table and a server will bring your menus. We were greeted by our server Jonah (at least that was the name on out reciept) who was very friendly. Customer service is very important to me! I got a spicy bloody mary and my boyfriend got a beer. My bloody mary was def. spicy! Almost too spicy. We ordered the ahi tartar, mussels and the chix stix. Jonah warned us that they are chicken thighs on a skewer and that some people either love them or hate them. We went ahead and tried them. I actually really liked them! The mussels had to be my favorite. The sauce they are soaked in was delish! We only ordered some small plates so we could try several items. The food was all great, the atmosphere was casual and chill (a place for locals or to meet people- new people or friends!) and the customer service was amazing. All of the employees were friendly which I loved. Would recommend this place highly for a lite bite and some drinks! read more

My husband & I had lunch here today for the first time. We have been reluctant to try this place because we aren't beer drinkers & a few of our friends that recommended it are. Needless to say, you don't have to love beer, just food! We had the fig burger....I was nervous because fig spread on a burger??? Really? Mixed with arugula & goat cheese?? Really?? Well this burger does not disappoint! I hope the chef keeps this burger on the menu! We also had the spinach & artichoke dip....it was YUMMY, the only bummer was as I got about half way through I could see a lot of oil...but I kept eating it because it was so good! We will definitely go back for that burger! Or maybe I'll try those tacos?:) read more
