Entrees: Five Cheese Baked Haddock - a fresh tender stuffed filet with great flavor - excellent dish! Panko Encrusted Stuffed Chicken - very few dishes I would rate as five star but this one does it for me. I couldn't get enough of it. On this week's specials menu. Ask for it! Dessert: Strawberry Cream Cake - light and delicious golden cake with fresh cream and fresh fruit. A must. Our server (Scott) was awesome, energetic and knew the menu well. Perfection! Can't say enough good things about our experience!! My sister and her family live in NYC and are visiting. Her birthday is next week and we celebrated at the Bijou, tonight. There were 14 of us, ranging in age from 5 to 79 years and there was something for everyone! Every one of us loved our meal! The staff put up with us taking many family photos to commemorate the occasion and even took a few of the whole family! The food...The crab cakes were fishy. Little undercooked in the middle. The stuffed mushrooms were good. The jack Daniels steak was cooked perfectly. The burger was cooked perfectly (i wouldn't pay $15 for it again). The drinks were good. We had to sit at the bar which was okay with us. Because we didn't make reservationists. I went here for my boyfriend's 22nd birthday with his family. After we ordered our waitress came back and forgot what 2 of the people in our party ordered and forgot they had a certain pop, then our food came out and she brings me the wrong order (I was not one of the people who's order she came back to clarify). We then told her that I did not order the steak but I ordered the chicken, she takes away the steak then they bring out the chicken maybe 5 minutes later. I cut into my chicken and it's RAW, so we sent back my meal again, and by the time my food got out everyone else is just about done eating. All while our waitress is "serving" us, shes sitting down and talking to the one other table that's in there or going on her phone and barely paying our party any mind, and keep in mine including our table there were only 2 tables, our party of 6 and her friends' party of 2. Our waitress never said sorry for anything wrong that happened, and after getting the pink chicken rushed our meal, gave us the bill mid meal, and was constantly staring at us. We came here before a show for a couples' night out. Our waitress was rude right off the bat. Fortunately, the food was great! I had what seemed like handmade lobster ravioli with perfectly cooked asparagus and my other half had their handmade pizza. It was reasonably priced for what we received and the location. My party and I made reservations here before seeing Hamiltunes during Curtain Up! 2018-19. This was the first time coming here for any of us. The location is right on Main Street in the theatre district, looking out at Shea's and the Metro Rail. It is a prime location for theatre goers. The decor inside is fitting for being in the theatre district, and the walls are lined with signed cast posters from the various musicals that have toured at Shea's. The wait staff was friendly and attentive to our needs, filling our glasses of water quickly and attending to our needs. They were willing to fix mistakes and bring us anything else we would need. The menu was pretty large and there was food on it even the luckiest of eaters will eat. I am having issues eating spicy food currently, so I opted to have the French Onion Soup and a roast beef sandwich. The French Onion Soup was alright. It wasn't anything spectacular. It had plenty of cheese and croutons on top. It was just average in my opinion. The roast beef was alright too. It came from Charlie the Butcher but I feel like it needed more Au Jus. Overall, I think I'd be happier eating something else. There were a few spicier fares I'd like to try and I would be willing to go back and try them. I'd also like to try their desserts as their menu looked delicious. I think next time I will skip an appetizer and opt for that. read more

Had 5:30 reservations for dinner before Shea's. First of all there is NO social distancing. Tables are still too close. Now maybe they are short handed on staff as our server was very busy. Finally took order after about 15 minutes. I ordered lobster ravioli, hubs ordered salmon and both were good. However our entrees did not arrive until 6:40 when we had been there for ONE HOUR and TEN MINUTES ! Unacceptable!! Because of location of our table we could see the orders under the warming lamps because Grandma's job is too keep moving the plates around under them. Needless to say we scarfed the food down and even tho we requested the check from our very nice but harried server it was a hurried trip across to the theatre and the various but necessary security checks to finally get to our seats shortly before Tootsie began. Never again. Oh and hubs orders a vodka martini on the rocks with a twist of lemon..simple right...bartender added olive juice because it was extremely salty WTH if it wasn't ordered as dirty why add the juice? We also had dinner here after the remodel and new menu. We were not impressed. Some of the menu items were not as described. One person ordered crab cakes which were described as jumbo lump crab cakes. It was not Jumbo lump crab. I ordered the chicken cutlet which was described as a thinly sliced chicken cutlet TOPPED with arugula, bruschetta mix and lemon drizzle. I was served chicken (not thinly sliced ) ON TOP of a salad of arugula With cherry tomatoes and sliced onions. When I think of bruschetta mix I think of chopped tomatoes and onions mixed together. This was listed under entrees. It should have been listed under salads. It was a salad! If I had known that I would not have ordered a dinner salad before my entree. So I wound up having two salads for dinner. Two people in our party ordered the scallops with risotto. They both said the risotto was extremely starchy. Our service was greatly lacking as well. We had to keep calling the server over for additional cocktails and she never asked anybody if anyone needed anything else before she left the table. read more

A group of us from work went here for lunch the other day. The ambiance is confusing to explain; lots of theater posters for shows at Shea's which is across the street, some pink neon lights and a 50's diner lit-up sign. It was like they played with the idea of being a 50's diner...maybe, maybe not; and then compromised somewhere in the middle. I started with the soup of the day which was a Creamy Chicken Florentine. Although not that creamy, it was very tasty. Complimentary bread was brought to the table with both butter and seasoned olive oil. This is a small weakness of mine not shared by my coworkers. So I had three slices with the oil. The bread was very soft and fresh. I was determined to order the Turkey & Avocado sandwich on wheat which I wish I had. But I and another co-worker were swayed to try the special which was a Southwestern Chicken Wrap. We both agreed that there was no southwestern flavor and that all you really tasted was the salsa. The side choices were fries, sweet potato chips or a pasta salad. I went with the later which was again the wrong choice. While I did eat it, the pasta salad was very dry and just kind-of sad looking. My coworker chose the fries and let me try one. They were really good, with some kind of crispy batter. The two other people in our party said that their dishes were very good and they looked very good as well. If I come back, I'll stick with my original choice and opt for fries on the side. My bloody mary was OK. nothing to write home about. Same with my husband's sandwich. just a sandwich. I thought the prices seemed a little high and no brunch menu to speak of. Ahhh Bijou Grille. Not bad. Not great. Pretty much right in the middle. While the location of this place is awesome, I struggle to understand what kind of place it truly is. It has diner like decor, but has fancier food then you would expect. However, the food was pretty average. If I had to go again, I would be ok with it. But, I don't think I would actively seek it out, unless I was in that area. In fact, I probably would have a hard time deciding between here and TGI Friday's around the corner. Went to eat last night with about ten people. Although our server was excellent and our food came out quick, food itself was less than average. The baked fish was very bland, my lobster ravioli had a lot of water at the bottom of the dish and the filling did not taste like lobster. I called only a few hours before to make a reservation and although all their two-tops were booked they still took me and set up a table by the bar which was nice. The location is perfect for going to a show at Shea's since it is right across the street but I probably won't be coming here again. Although the staff was very friendly, things did not flow as I would expect. We were not told the specials, which we figured out when we saw delicious looking items that were not on the menu brought to the next table. We ordered wine which took forever to come. We ordered soup as a starter but also waited forever for it. The soup finally came exactly three minutes before our entrees. My entree came with the wrong pasta, which they offered to fix but not until I was well into eating (because that's how long it took for our waitress to come back to check on us.) My mother's pot pie was doughy/slightly undercooked and she did not care for it. Overall, the experience was mediocre. I doubt I'll be back. read more

I made a reservation for 12 of us to have dinner here before a show at the Smith Theater a month before the event. I called a few days beforehand to confirm, and was told "yup, we're all set". When we showed up I found that instead of a table for 12, we were given 3 tables of 4. Close together, but certainly not conducive to our whole group talking in a crowded restaurant. I went right up to the hostess stand and mentioned my confusion to the woman there (who turned out to be the owner). She said that this way we would have 2 servers and we'd be in and out quicker. I told her we wanted to sit together and that's why I reserved a table for 12 so far in advance... not 3 tables of 4. She said she'd have one of our waiters reset the table and then we could still have 2 waiters for ease of service. I was very happy. When the tables were set we lost all of the "middle seats" and ended up having to be all squished together. I was told (after the tables were moved) that all of the other tables in the restaurant were booked. Then, to add insult to injury, we were not given two waiters as the owner had said we would. We were given one waitress. We were ignored for the rest of the evening by the owner (she obviously made it a point to avoid any eye contact with our table at all costs). The waitress we had was friendly, but frazzled. Bread was brought after entrees. Food was brought at all different times. We were never asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. And, the check took a very long time in coming. The food was about average. One of the women in our group was very happy that the kitchen was able to accomodate her food allergies. The portion sizes were adequate. We tried all kinds of salads and flatbreads and a few entrees. No one raved about their choices, but there were not any complaints either..... except that we were squished together. Good thing we're very good friends. I would probably go back here (because of the great location in the theater district). I just wouldn't come with a big group unless we wanted to sit separately or cuddle during our meal. read more

I dined here before an 8pm show across the street at Shea's last Saturday. Had a 6pm reservation for four and we were seated right away. The dining room is kind of cramped. There weren't too many people when we first arrived, but the tables were definitely close together. It filled up while we were there but it was never too loud. Side note - the ladies room was even more cramped. I didn't even want to wait for a turn, I just went at Shea's. The service was good. Definitely were served with plenty of time to make it to the show. The food was good - I had a flatbread with spinach, artichoke and goat cheese which was yummy and definitely big portions. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals as well. Plenty of options, I think we ordered a chicken parm, a quesadilla and ravioli. We also shared some desserts. I think the cannoli were my favorite, pretty sure they were filled to order. Overall, a nice casual place to grab dinner before a show. You can tell the Shea's crowd is their main clientele, there are posters from shows on the walls. I recommend. read more

I came here with colleagues for lunch; we were trying to find a quick place to eat and figured a "grill" would be a safe option. Overall, the food was quite blah. I'm still trying to figure out why my burger cost $14. When it arrived it was literally an unseasoned burger on a bun with a leaf of lettuce. Maybe I should have been more specific with what I would like on it but I was preoccupied with a 2 year old. But... shouldn't the waiter ask? Also, the fries were disappointing. They weren't seasoned or crispy. My coworkers weren't thrilled with their Buffalo chicken burgers either, however one person did like their french onion soup. 2 stars for the friendly service but the food was a total let down. read more

After a couple of trips to Bijou, I am comfortable concluding that it's just not that good. I have had three different salads: pecan chicken, Greek salad, and the roasted beet salad. Each included limp lettuce, uninspired dressing, and additional salad toppings that don't do enough to save the salads. The chicken is ok -- standard fare, grilled chicken. Prices are reasonable. It can be a bit chilly in the Restaurant during winter. read more

I've came here for a work lunch. My boss offered to treat my entire department and for some reason this place was mentioned and voted on. I'd only walked past it before that experience. I ordered the popular thing on the menu, which was a chicken sandwich with a stuffed hot pepper and bbq sauce on top. It was average. Overall, I wasn't too impressed. I attended a show at Shea's on Nov. 22, 2019 and was accompanied by my mother and two of her friends. My thought was that it would be a nice idea to have dinner first at the Bijou Grille and then all we would have to do is walk across the street. Perfect, I made the reservations. This mistake will not be made again. I do realize that others may have a different experience at this establishment, but I felt the need to warn others contemplating a visit. The restaurant was very crowded and very noisy. I get it. Business was good. That's great. Mom and I ordered the eggplant lasagna and her friends both ordered the chicken pot pie. Antacid pills saved the day regarding the eggplant lasagna and one of the chicken pot pies was enjoyed by one of the other ladies. However, the other guest received a chicken pot pie that was so substandard that criminal charges should have been filed. Her meal was so disturbing on several points: 1.) there was no crust on the top of the chicken pot pie 2.) when the chef prepared it and saw it was missing, why would he even serve it? 3.) our server, who was supposed to be looking out for us, actually served it--why wouldn't he tell the chef that it wasn't acceptable? 4.) when it was brought to the server's attention, he said that the crust "sank into it"--really? You were serving this to 3 ladies who have been cooking for years (one even owned a restaurant) and knew better. We searched and couldn't find any evidence of any crust having been there. We did, however, find the 4 pieces of chicken that made up the "chicken" pot pie. Why would he insult our intelligence? It was funny that he wouldn't look me in the eye after this revelation. He knew it was a mess and offered no apology, just the "it sank" explanation. I would mention his name, but in our politically correct society, it may hurt his self esteem and we certainly wouldn't want that. One of my regrets in life is that I left this guy a tip. Terrible mistake. So there you have it. Your experience may be different. Just a warning. It appeared to me that the Bijou Grille was more concerned about slammin' out the food than making sure the food was slammin' good. Bon appetit!! read more

It saddens me that I cannot even comment on the food at this not so fine dining establishment because I didn't even get a chance to order for I was refused service right from the start. You see, I was on a vacation with my sis visiting my dad in NY and he bought us tickets to see WICKED (hell yah!) so naturally we make dinner plans as any normal play going patron would. We arrive at Bijou Grille because my dad had seen this place and thought it would be fun to go to so he dropped us off to get the table while he parked the car. Don't get me wrong, the outside of the restaurant is very inviting however the OWNER and the hostess are not. We arrived 15 minutes before they closed and that is their reasoning for not seating us. Prior to them not seating us, I watched them seat an elderly couple of 4 and there were still customers that had not been served and customers who were having their orders taken. The hostess told me that they were closed and I brought to her attention that they closed in 15 minutes and we would be quick as we had to get to the play. So technically they were not closed and I had just watched them seat the people right before us so I asked to speak to the manager on duty and she said certainly and not only brought out the manager but the owner of the restaurant. I explained what I had just said to the hostess and she refused us service. I really think this establishment deserves a bad review for the treatment they gave me and my little sister. For the first time in my life I really felt discriminated against age and race. If I could give this restaurant negative stars I would. read more

Three months in advance we planned a reservation for dinner before a show at Sheas to celebrate a birthday. Not only did it take almost half an hour to seat us (even though we had reservations) but when we did finally get seated it took almost another half an hour to even get our soup appetizers. The staff was rude and we were barely attended to throughout the night. The worst part of all is that after ordering our dinner almost an hour ago we DIDNT EVEN GET OUR DINNER. Our show was at 8pm and we were told that we would not get our dinner in time to make the show, even though we ordered well before 7pm. This was the case for many groups in the restaurant that night and all of us were forced to leave without dinner. After trying to contact management about this we were continuously ignored. Stay away from this dining experience if you want actual service and food! read more

I will always judge "high end" restaurants more harshly than others. Why? Because you are paying way more than you would at other places in order to obtain a high quality food with high quality service. Bijou only has one of these two things covered. You get what you pay for, right? But that's not the case here. If you're going to charge what you do, then you need to step up your game. If a few things went differently, I might have given this place 4, or even 5 stars. Compliment sandwich: -The ambiance was unique, clever, vibrant, and classy. I was surprised walking into this place, it's much different inside than on the outside. -What bothered me the most was that my $18 raviolis were served to me warm, not hot, which means that it probably wasn't very fresh either, not to mention they were literally the same size as the appetizer we ordered. Had it not already taken so long to come to the table, I would've sent it back. But time is more precious than temperature, and I didn't want to add onto our wait time any longer. Plus, it shouldn't have came out warm in the first place. It also had a very average quality to it, nothing special enough to brag about. I give them three stars based on the creativity of their menu, each item was pretty unique, but it lacked in heat, quality, and quantity. They're truly so close to greatness. -They had plenty of vegetarian option (which were marked on the menu, huge bonus there). The service was flawless. Our waiter, despite it having been so busy, was on top of everything. I wish I remembered his name, because he definitely deserves a shout out. -The ultimate redeeming quality was that their mixed drinks were incredible. What a waste of a lunch hour! Ordered a club with sweet potato chips..... chips were greasy and soggy, no crunch. My lunch buddy insisted we order dessert, ordered plain cheesecake with strawberries and raspberries.... no raspberries and it had chocolate sauce on it???? No where on the dessert menu had it listed chocolate as a companion to this cheesecake. The service was slow... and both waitresses had flip flops on.... can we say health code violation? I came here with some colleagues as a welcome-lunch for a new team member. One of my colleagues called ahead to let them know that we would need a table for 5. When we arrived, it looked like we were the first customers (a few minutes after 12pm). The host/server seemed genuinely annoyed that we were there. After he sat us with menues and came to check on us, we asked him for the specials. I had been here before and had a delicious portabella burger. I did not see this on the menu, so I asked if there were possibly any veggie burgers. The server (he might have been the manager - he was kind of dressed up) said with an attitude that it would be on the menu if they had something like that. It was super awkward and definately not a good way to start our lunch with a new team member. I ordered the chicken stuffed peper sandwich without the chicken. He looked at me like I had 3 heads. Two of my co-workers had the black bean soup which was sent back because it was cold. He brought bread out to our table which was not fresh, and he placed it in front of one of us instead of in the middle of the table. We will not be returning. read more
