This place is SO much more than just a bike shop. Not only is every employee incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable, but they have make such a positive impact on individuals with disabilities through adaptive cycling. I've seen their amazing work firsthand through Project Mobility and Wounded Warrior Project's Soldier Ride. Their time outside of the bike shop is spent developing specialized bikes for kids, adults, and injured veterans. I don't know how they have time for it all, but they do it with ease! You can tell the Honeyman's and their staff love what they do! I just visited to buy a new bike and although the shop was packed with customers, I was instantly greeted by 3 employees. I'm not an experienced cyclist, and Cameron did a fantastic job explaining everything to me and offering great recommendations! It can be intimidating going into a bike shop as a newbie, but Cameron welcomed all my questions and never made me feel stupid for asking them - this I really appreciated! I drove for 45 minutes for a $200 professional bike fitting appointment with Cameron. Supposedly, that's the only service he provides at the Bike Rack. In exchanged emails, he stated he was very busy but could fit me in at 12:30 on 6/19. I replied I would be there. I arrived early. He was 40 minutes late. Very irresponsible not to mention rude. We purchased an adaptive tandom bicycle from the bike rack for our paraplegic son at a cost of over $11,000. The bike had a specialized seat, lockout peddles and a electric assist motor. My son grew out of the bike in a few years so we contacted Hal at the bike rack about selling it. He took it in on consignment. After 6 years having the bike all they did was strip the important parts from it and use it for parts. When we finally picked the bike up there was nothing but lies told to us about the missing parts. DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THESE PEOPLE. IF THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE DISABLED THE WOULD DO IT TO ANYONE. My son will be filing a suit against The Bike Rake. read more

Selection isn't great but it's definitely the best in the area. They definitely don't work quick... there were a few times that I called with a question and didn't hear back for a few weeks.... but I did hear back, and they definitely knew their stuff. So, why 5 stars? I've bought two bikes here this year and a really high end bike from a different shop (that I think is excellent but over an hour away) and the bikes from The Bike Rack were all set up better. Things like brake calipers being aligned and shifters being set properly make a huge difference and the Bike Rack does a great job with that. Every time I've been in, they're helpful and more knowledgeable than most of the guys in other local shops. Definitely a local business I'm happy to support. read more

I have purchased 2 bikes from this place over the years. The first time was a good experience. The last time, not so much. The last bike I bought took forever to purchase given that it was already built and that I was the only one in the store. After 90 minutes of nonsense, it was poorly adjusted and required me to spend time redoing the derailleur alignments at home. They seem to have fallen victim to their own success. Family-owned is not always the best thing when the young ones don't seem to care. I will not be back. read more

HATE HATE HATE this place. Bike is worse off for having brought it in. The people seem nice and I'd like to be more supportive of what seems to be a family run business, however, the service is awful. I took my $200 off of craigslist bike in to get a tune up. It's a nice bike..a Trek Hybrid and in good condition. I just need some new tires and a seasonal tweak. After a few weeks and a few phone calls, I was told I needed a lot of new parts and pieces to which I responded, "I don't ride that often, just for leisure. The tune up I requested is fine." A while later, a few days after they said it would be ready I received a call about fixing something again. Me - again, it works fine. Please just tune this up. In the past my seat and seat post were stolen so I used an old seat and post that were in my garage. They worked fine. When I picked my bike up I had more repairs suggested at an additional cost, two guys argued over me needing a new chain, which I didn't and still don't and the guy ''fixed'' my seat post issue for me. By that he said, that seat post is the wrong size so I fixed (whatever it is the post goes into) and then suggested I buy a new seat and post. Now the seat I was using won't fit. (IT WORKED BEFORE) I paid more than I would have liked for a tune up (around 75% of the initial cost of the bike) and I'm going to have to go SOMEWHERE ELSE to buy a new seat and post. Long story short - unless you're riding a $2,500 roadster that you are familiar with the intricacies - don't go here. Find somewhere where you won't have things ''fixed'' without your permission that end up costing you twice what you had budgeted. It's extremely frustrating that I know can't ride my bike until I spend more money to fix what wasn't broken. Again, I HATE this place. read more

The team from The Bike Rack provided the bikes and mechanical SAG support for the Wounded Warrior Program Soldier Ride in Jacksonville, Florida. I saw them make adaptions on the fly for many wounded warriors, including myself. They also provided one on one counseling to veterans on how to go through the process of acquiring adaptive bikes. Each wounded warrior had different circumstances, but they took the time to help each person. Mechanically they provided quick repairs on the road for breakdowns. I would recommend anyone that needs adaptive bikes to let them help you. read more

Came here wanting to look at Catrikes and compare them to other trikes. When i walked in. I saw two customers and two people working with them. I walked over to the trikes and was greeted by Dane. He was very knowledgeable, kind, and patient. I was allowed to sit on any of the models present so that i can get a better feel. After deciding on the model, I wanted to get a quote. I also mentioned that i would be back next week, weather permitting, to take the model on a test ride. A week passed and i stopped by. I wanted to test ride the 559, but the only model they had was modified. I had asked if they could quickly revert it to stock, and Dane said yes. 15 minutes later, the bike was near stock, pedals and all for the test ride. I was settled on making the purchase but wanted to wait until the beginning of December. I had returned, placed the order for the catrike and parts for my draftmaster rack. Got a call 2 weeks later stating the trike was ready for pick up. Got to the shop at 5, and was out by 7. Dane and Hal helped with assembling my rack together. Duane helped to fine tune the trike to my size. This place is very knowledgeable and each member of the team appears to work together really well (Duane was scheduled to leave at 5 but stayed a little after 6 to size up my Trike) They have financing options also. A few years ago I stopped in at The Bike Rack in St Charles to look at a bike I'd narrowed my choice down to through online research. I wasn't planning to buy it that day but I guess I timed it right because it was around tax season and the brand I was looking at was on sale. The person who helped me was friendly and helpful, explained the differences between a few models and didn't push me into a cost bracket out of my budget. Although I didn't plan to buy a new bike that day, I did. From that point, the customer assistance just kept getting better and better. I returned several times to purchase various accessories. Whether I was buying a bike pump or an inner tube, the folks there were always friendly and helpful. Some time later I came in to look at bike racks that go into a trailer hitch for my car. Once again someone said a friendly hello, asked how he could help and then walked me through the pros and cons of the car racks they carried. I chose a lighter weight one that would be easier for me to lift and install after he pointed out the weight difference between the racks (something I had not thought about). The assistant came out to my car and showed me step-by-step how to put it into the hitch, lock/unlock, secure bikes, fold it up when not in use, etc. I really appreciated this as I had never had this type of car bike rack before. I've since moved out of state. During a recent (2nd) move, our car hit a pot hole and the car bike rack snapped and broke. Now, this bike rack is a highly popular one (I don't wish to bash brands here), is well made and gets great reviews so this was probably an unusual situation. Sadly this particular company's customer support, at least in this circumstance, wasn't very helpful. So... I called the Bike Rack in St Charles to get advice on how to get my car bike rack replaced since it was still under warranty. I spoke with Lance at The Bike Rack who then joined me in a 3 MONTH journey to get the rack replaced. Lance probably made a dozen calls to the company reps and just as many to me to keep me updated. I can't tell you how amazed I was at the level of dedication Lance showed in helping me get this matter resolved. After 3 months, we were both pretty frustrated that my rack still had not been delivered. So Lance called one more time and now I'm happy to report I received my new car rack where I now live in AZ. The level of attention from everyone, and especially Lance, at The Bike Rack in St Charles gave me from the time I bought my first bike a few years ago to helping me resolve this car bike rack issue from 2000 miles away was completely above and beyond. If we move back to the St Charles area, we would definitely make The Bike Rack our go-to shop for our bike needs. I highly recommend trying this bike shop! read more

I took my hybrid bike in for a repair to get it ready for cycling season a few weeks back. I was having issues where the chain/gears seemed to be slipping when peddling hard and the bike was having some issues with shifting. Admittedly, I went a whole season longer than I should have on my bike without having it serviced. When I took it to the bike rack, I explained the issues to them and asked that they give it a tune-up (assuming it was just stretched cables) and to contact me if any further repairs needed to be done to remedy the situation. A week later (I took my bike in when everyone else did); they called and let me know I could pick it up. I was met again with friendly customer service and had an effortless transaction. Unfortunately, when I took the bike back out on the trail the next day, the issues were exactly as they had been before I took the bike in. This was unsettling, to say the least, but this is also where I am able to tell about the service experience I had. I called the store the next day to inform them the issues persisted and asked when I can get the bike looked at again. The lady on the phone told me that I could bring it in and get it taken care of. I brought the bike in and spoke with a gentleman who I assume was one of the proprietors. The first thing he did was apologize that they bike wasn't fixed the first time. He also took a look at it immediately when I wheeled it in, asked that I allow it to stay overnight so that he could do the necessary repairs, and informed me that he would not charge me for the labor or any marginal parts that need to be replaced. The next day I stopped in to pick up the bike and it was fixed. I also checked out a Trek 1.1 road bike that they were willing to take down for me, even though I informed them I wouldn't be making any additional purchases that day. I think my experience with The Bike Rack deserves a 5-star rating because of the service I received after my bike wasn't in top shape after the initial tune-up. If you've ever been to an auto mechanic after spending hundreds of dollars only to have persistent issues with the work they did, it's refreshing to see place take accountability and do the right thing. I'll probably be in this summer to buy that road bike and write a subsequent review. Kudos to the bike rack and their service after a less than ideal beginning. read more

Everyone I've ever dealt with here is as nice as it gets. I've bought both of my older kids bikes here (we like to go on family bike rides) and the sales people really know what theyre talking about. I was a little intimidated before i went here the first time - i thought they would try to sell me something for professional racers or something like like that, which, lets face it my 12 year old just doesnt need yet - but a friend recommended them highly. I was very pleasantly surprised when i went though. The salesperson started off by asking me if i was looking for a competitive bike or something more casual and after I said "definitely casual", he never tried to push something i didnt want on me. he also gave me lots of great tips on how to keep the bikes well maintained so i dont have to pay to get them fixed later. my kids love their bikes and when my third gets old enough, we'll be going back again! read more

I was recently in the market for a new entry-level hybrid bike. Two shops closer to my home were unimpressive and unhelpful. After getting a recommendation from a friend, I visited The Bike Rack on a very busy Saturday morning in early May. It took several minutes for someone to greet me and ask me if I needed assistance, but it was perfectly understandable. I was properly fitted, allowed to take test rides on two bikes and had all my questions answered. I did not feel pressured into making a purchase decision. The guys in the shop took time to show me some basic bike maintenance before sending me on my way. This was a great experience and I highly recommend The Bike Rack. read more

Took my Trek in for an $80 tune up. The technician explained to me that there were a couple of recalls on the fork and brake locks and those needed replacing. He said it would take a while to get parts which I said was fine. A few days went past and they called me saying they needed the receipt from when I purchased. Which I provided to them right away. A couple of weeks later I called to check on status of the bike and I was told parts had to be sent from California so that's why it was taking so long. Which I thought a little odd it would take two weeks but whatever. I said okay. Then a couple of days later they said the bike was ready to be picked up. After my first ride I noticed my crank was very creaky. My back brake made a squeaking noise when applied. And my handlebars came lose. I fixed the back brake and tightened the handlebars myself. They replaced the fork and tire locks that were recalled and that looked to be done properly. I took the bike back to the shop and left the bike for them to re-evaluate. I wasn't not sure if the crank was even something that was part of the tune up package I had or if it was just a coincidence that it was creaky after the tune up. Turns out it was not part of the tune up package. Two days later they called and they said they adjusted a lose bolt and cleaned out the crank. No charge! Bike rides perfect now with no creaking! We also bought a bike at the store this week. They were very helpful in showing us different models and letting us test ride them. They were very helpful and patient in fitting us with the proper bike. Happy with our purchase and service buying a bike there. read more

Brief explanations of differences between bikes and felt was just being up sold way beyond what our budget was. When you walk in, you will have to find somebody. Don't be afraid to yell out "Hello" to get attention. Most likely it will be the poor guys fixing bikes in the back that help you, and not a salesperson. If they don't have it in the store, DO NOT HAVE THEM ORDER IT. It will get messed up, and nobody will follow up on your order. You will have to go back in person into the store because their phones never work (see first sentence). Dealing with these folks is like dealing with Surfers out of SoCal. DUUUUDE!!! I guess when you are making money hand over fist selling creative mobility and soaking the insurance companies, regular bike customers become a necessary evil? I dropped off bike on 5/13 and was quoted $25 plus parts to get my BMX fixed. Total cost for repairs was estimated at $40. The guys said, "No way more than $40." After multiple calls about this, that, and the third. I started to become suspicious. Finally, today, I received a call and Tom stated it would take more time, more parts, and more labor. I became angry about cost and additional problems and stated I was on my way over to see for myself. In the 14 minutes, literally, it took to arrive the, "problem" was solved. Odd how they found a part and fixed the problem in 14 minutes flat after calling me to state they needed more parts, time, and money. I asked for an itemized bill and upon checking prices online they overcharged me on Profile Imperial 4 Sprocket by $20 including the shipping cost. Two separate charges for labor and the kicker is, I didn't even need a new sprockets. Check photos- does this sprocket look bent to you? They overcharged $20 on a sprocket I didn't need and then hit me for separate labor cost. I saved receipts and communications i.e. voicemails etc. I intend to ask people at trusted bike shop in Plano, IL how bad the people at The Bike Rack cheated me. I'm assuming around $60-80. If you need work done, go to DeKalb, IL or out to Plano, IL. It's an extra hour in the car for me each way, but better than paying extra $80 and the dirty feeling of getting ripped off by unscrupulous people. read more

Reading some of the reviews really surprised me. I do a lot of downhill mountain biking, and every time I have been there to repair something (about 17 times) they have helped fix the problem with little to no problem. Of course you may need some new parts. They are just helpfully suggesting you upgrade or fix something. Always have A+ service when I'm there. I don't have a lot of prior knowledge about bikes, but I have learned a lot from the staff because they do not talk down to me or shame me for not knowing parts of bikes or how to repair them. I really appreciate all that they have done, and I currently have my trek remedy 9 in the shop to convert all the parts from my old frame, on to that one. Thank you bike rack staff! read more

Duh. Of course The Bike Rack gets five stars, because my bike whisperer, Brian, works there. He's the sh*t!! Not only did he properly fit me for my new Trek 7.2 FX, he also spent a lot of time explaining to me all kinds of stuff about gears and chains and tire pressure and sh*t that I promptly forgot before exiting the store. Brian was patient with my inept-ness and helped me every inch along the way, and even tipped me off to the Randall Rd. bike UNDERPASS (it does exist). He even offered to ride back toward my house with me. Some may find that creepy, I found it endearing as I really felt B and I built a serious rapport in my three visits preceding my actual purchase. I never felt pressured to buy, they put my bike on hold for me for a week so I could bring in an expert (/financier) to check out my decision AND they have a really cute old dog that kicks it there. What more can you ask for? Oh, I know. These people are genuine and kind. When my grandfather was having issues with his walker a few years ago, my dad took it here and they fixed it within moments of his arrival FOR FREE. I love my bike, I love my granola bike whispering buddy and his wealth of bike knowledge. For all of my future bike accessory needs, I will be revisiting The Bike Rack!! read more

I am mystified at some of these reviews. You can't possibly be upset if you have a little wait when the shop is busy, nor should you complain if you arrive before the shop opens and they don't let you in. Are you serious people? This place is fantastic. I showed up on a crazy busy Saturday before my first duathlon just to see if I could price out some clip-in pedals. They immediately gave me several options for making it through the competition, even though the race was the next day and they had a gazillion people to get to. They somehow had a bike that was just my size to rent, for only $45/day. I'm short, so finding a small frame Trek OCLV 5200 was awesome, and sort of a miracle. They set me up right away, made sure I understood how to shift and everything. They were friendly, funny, and went over and above in their level of service. I returned the following day after the race, which I won thanks to a killer bike time, and was able to return the bike within 10 minutes despite the fact that they were running a bike event out of the shop all day. I mentioned that I might be interested in purchasing the bike, and the person helping me (Cameron) gave me an estimate, asking me to call the next day for a more specific number. I forgot to call, but I received a call from HIM two days later with an updated price, and a recommendation to try out some other types of frames. He had even remembered the minor issues I had while using their bike. I am thrilled that the shop put this amount of effort into making me feel well taken care of.
