As you find a dark lounge area to sit you'll hear a drone of upbeat electronic elevator music and a few birds chirping within the massive conical wood rooftop meditation temple. It's nice to be able to pick and choose what you order while enjoying the amazing view and fabulous drinks. The drinks we had were excellent, and while we only had the edamame and Maui onion dip, we enjoyed both. We came to watch sunset and did not have a hard time getting a nice table with a view on a Saturday night. We enjoyed the many birds roosting in the eves (hence the apt name!) and stayed longer than we expected due to the excellent views, comfy chairs, and fantastic service. This location is amazing. I would suggest a cocktail at sunset. However, this was hands down one of the least edible meals I've had in such a long time. I dine out often and in locations known for great culinary choices. Sadly the food was barely edible. Shocking lack of flavor, the oils used for the items we ordered were old and foul, and the flavor combinations were poorly designed. We ordered fish, burgers, mushrooms, salads, and lamb. Not one plate was enjoyed, all, were only tolerated because we were hungry. I hate writing poor reviews and this may actually be a first. But I felt compelled to give others a heads up. The view aline is 5 stars and the birds add another layer of beauty. We tried a few different items. The poke crackers, the ribs and charcuterie. The bird theme is all encompassing in an elegant way that does not compete with the natural beauty around you. The lovebirds enhance the atmosphere. This is a gorgeous hotel with a beautiful view for the sunset. tldr the drinks and food are super yum but for $24 a drink, the service is way below average and definitely did not meet expectations. i'd probably save money and go somewhere else in Maui for the same view and experience. Heads up, there's only two tables for guests that are not couples. My party of 5 got there about an hour before sunset and there were many tables open, but the only table for 5 was two couches side by side. So we sat in a line and could barely talk to each other. When I asked if we could pull chairs so that we can face each other, they said they had no extra chairs (most of the bar was empty at this point). Understandable they had to reserve seats for when more people came but the hostess was frazzled and rude when we asked. Then, we ordered two appetizers for the table to share and they didnt bring any plates. Very hard to share when 5 people are sitting in a line. When we asked for plates they brought 3, and said "I could only find 3". Our waiter said he'd look for more and then didn't bring any. by the time he checked back on us (with no plates) we had already finished the appetizers. Drinks also took a very long time to come, we were pretty much done with our appetizers by then. First night of my wife's birthday 5 day stay at the hotel and we were immediately treated like we didn't belong here. There was only 5 tables being served and they ignored all of our requests. They made back handed insults like " are you staying here" as if we didn't belong. They made us feel extremely uncomfortable on our first day here. The actually left my wife completely flabbergasted and confused as if we did something wrong. We were just trying to have a nice quiet meal at our hotel. This is a lovely place. The view from the Birdcage Grill is wonderful. The service and food were OK - nothing special for the price point. The birds are another story altogether. The roof of the grill is a large cone about 40' tall at its apex. Flying around above are maybe 20-30 what appear to be lorikeets. They perch on wires overhead and around the perimeter inside the cone roof. There's only one reason that these birds are there: they're being fed and kept as an attraction. Now, I'm trying to enjoy drinks and tapas with friends and I get crapped on by birds twice! Then I realize that the birds are flying overhead and crapping on the customers and their food and drink! Yuck!! I couldn't get the bill and get out of there fast enough!! What genius thought having birds crapping on your customers and their food was a good idea?? How does the Maui Health Department allow this to go on?? There are many serious diseases carried by birds. I got home, tossed the clothes I was wearing in the laundry basket and took a long soapy shower. Needless to say, we're never going back. read more

This place is a wonderful place for a view and great drinks. I love the birdcage roofing and the seating gives a cozy feel. The drinks are creative and delicious. The service was great, very friendly people. The night my friend and I went, there was live music (not sure if that's everyday). I have to say, the food was OK, not great. None of it was disgusting, but it definitely could've been better. The raw hamachi we ordered wasn't cold, it was actually room temperature and a slight bit mushy, like it's been sitting out for quite a while. The lamb was good, we enjoyed the raw oysters and uni shooters, the miso brussel sprouts were good but the eggplants were more bland. The quail was great besides it being overly dressed with sauce. Was excited to come here as the ambiance and birds seemed cool. Service and spped isn't good and does not match the price point for food and drinks ($25 per cocktail). The floor plan is a big circle with non traditional seating and sofas. They have this cute wicker love seat but it was a tight fit to sit next to my husband and the wicker was covered in bird poop. Many seats, depending on the angle, feel like you are part of another groups table. We experienced both the uncomfortable seating and was facing away from the sunset. Experiencing this, we Asked to move to a open table multiple times and either didn't get a follow up or was given a loose "oh I need to ask". Got "I'm not sure, I need to ask" about 4 times from different servers. Finally we gave up and waited for our 2 drinks which took a whopping 40 min to come. It felt like we were getting subpar service because we initially told them we were there for just drinks. it's a shame that the servers would judge a customer and provide subpar service like this. My husband and I on a date night at minimum can have 3 drinks each and usually something to share to eat. Service was so bad and slow, we left after the one drink.
