2/18/26 I had lunch…read moreat The Chalet in Somerset and I'm still thinking about it. I ordered the lunch special which was a soup sandwich and a drink. So I ordered a bologna & Swiss sandwich on a brioche bun with French onion mushroom soup and an unsweet tea. After taxes and fees, my total was $12.72, which is amazing considering I always try to keep lunch under $15. Not only did it fit my budget, but it was genuinely one of the most delicious lunches I've had in a very long time. The sandwich was perfectly balanced; soft brioche, savory bologna, melty Swiss, simple but done exceptionally well. The French onion mushroom soup was rich, flavorful, and comforting. You can tell care goes into the food. It was also one of the best tasting French onion soups I've ever had with mushrooms. I can't wait to come back for a bigger bowl next time. The outside building looked like a cabin and from what I can tell was white linen style. The food was fantastic and the staff was friendly. Will definitely return again when in the area. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, which made the experience even better. They offer a convenient takeout window as well as indoor seating. I ordered at the window this time, so I didn't get to fully experience the inside, but I definitely plan to return and dine in next time. I also noticed signage suggesting it may be connected to a culinary school, which makes the quality make even more sense. Great value, great service, and fantastic food. I will absolutely be back.

This is quite possibly the best restaurant to ever exist in Stanford…read more I grew up in Stanford, I can tell you that in the 1980's and 1990's that local restaurants here were nothing but no-name greasy spoon diners selling nothing but fairly generic "burger and fries" and breakfast food, and it was usually pretty lousy. I was back in the town I grew up in a couple of weeks ago, and heard there was a really nice cafe in Stanford now called the Bluebird, so I sought it out. I was amazed. This definitely is more like a place I would expect in Lexington or Louisville. The food is genuinely good. Iced coffee and espresso, hot browns, and lots of other food that was never in Stanford when I was growing up there as a kid. I know that Stanford went wet a few years ago in a referendum, but it's still surreal to see margaritas and other mixed drinks on the menu in a place in Stanford. The ambiance was friendly and welcoming, and struck a nice balance between small town friendly. I had a patty melt, which was probably the best meal I'd ever had in a restaurant in Stanford in my entire life. I will definitely be back the next time I come back to my old hometown.

Freshly sautéed shrooms, cooked perfectly, juicy, seasoned well, served on a brioche bun. They offered a great selection of sides. I chose the chicken lemon orzo soup. It was a generous serving abundant w tender chicken. Our server, Autumn, was personable and, simply, just perfect at her job. We will return.

If you find yourself cruising through Burnside, Kentucky, you can't miss the bold claim standing…read moretall on the roadside: "World's Best Hot Dogs." While many places boast, the Goody Shack--a beloved seasonal icon for decades--actually delivers on the promise. The menu here is massive, ensuring there is truly something for everyone. Whether you are coming off the lake or just passing through, the portions are generous and the prices are incredibly fair. I can confidently say it's the best foot-long hot dog in the region. We ordered ours loaded with all the toppings; the beef was high-quality and packed with flavor--easily the best I've had in years. Execution is everything with diner food. The crinkle-cut fries hit that perfect golden ratio of crispy on the outside without being soggy. Even more impressive were the onion rings, which maintained their integrity and didn't pull out of the breading with the first bite. If hot dogs aren't your craving, they offer a deep roster of juicy hamburgers, chuckwagon sandwiches, and chicken options. From Cajun fries and hushpuppies to hamburger steaks and fried fish, the kitchen handles it all with ease. There is a reason the Goody Shack has remained a Burnside staple for generations. Stepping onto the property feels like walking into a 1960s sock hop. The staff is attentive and keeps things moving, even when the lakeside crowds gather. The place's laid-back vibe, relaxed mood, and unique character perfectly capture the vintage diner magic that is becoming more and more elusive. This is a "must-visit" location for your Spring 2026 Lake Cumberland itinerary since it is a seasonal gem. Whether you're a local or a tourist, the combination of massive portions, nostalgic flair, and those legendary chili dogs makes it a standout.

I haven't been to the Wagon Wheel in years. They say they are under new ownership now. I would like…read moreto know if this is correct. I am local and used to love going to this restaurant for their incredible breakfast and Friday Fish Night! I hope this is back now! The reason I am writing mainly is because I like that they are open to help accommodate the needs of the local community. I was looking and although our area only has a small amount of restaurants they all close up on the same days. The closest restaurants recommended are in Somerset. So if I'm going to go to Somerset for food if I want it 2 days per week I'll just go there all the time. Think about it. People want Restaurants everyday. I do agree with closing on Sunday! But Monday too? It appears to me the The Wagin Wheel or Oran's that the locals call it is open for business! So if they are under new ownership and they have improved on things why not give them our business! I'm a firm believer in supporting small businesses in local areas! They come here to serve us, their customers. We need to support them so we can drive 2 miles to get a burger and fries or a good home like prepared meal! That means something to me. But business have to take care of their customers too! If the meal is small and the price is large you aren't going to see that customer again. Fill the customer up with good food, at a reasonable price that makes you money but is fair for the meal you serve. I was in a restaurant the other day. Ordered their large Caesar Salad. Price was $10+. The salad came and there was nothing in the very large bowl it was served in. So I'm guessing their thinking of a Large Bowl of Salad is referring tithe bowl size not the salad size! Don't see that restaurant!
