this little Cuban establishment is a no-frills kind of spot. Honestly, it's a hole in the wall and if you didn't know it was there. You'd probably miss it but the down home authentic Cuban cuisine and great service is what I go for. I was looking enough to beat the rush and be in and out super fast my Vaca Frita was cooked perfectly and the portions were pretty decent. This place was an old building that looks like it was straight out of a small village in Tijuana. There were a few parking spaces directly in front of the business. The gender neutral bathroom appeared clean with basic decor. The place had a simple, no-frills vibe, which can be a nice change of pace from the more trendy spots. The server made me an espresso which was quick and affordable at only $2.00. One of my favorite local restaurants for breakfast. It reminds me of the authentic Cuban food in Miami. The place looks small from the outside but they recently remodeled and it looks spacious and clean on the inside. The staff is nice (most of the time). The food is reasonably priced. Hidden gem down the street from Hardrock. We were lucky to get a table during their lunch rush hour. The service was good! We got the food in a timely manner and the place was spacious. The lunch specials Monday- Friday from 11-4pm is everything!!! These deals are something you can't pass up on. All the entrees go from $8.99+ depending on the day and what you get. It's affordable and tasty. The top 3 entrees we ordered was the carne asada which comes with a big steak with rice and beans as well as a garlic cilantro sauce. The tenderness of this juicy steak was to die for! Next up is the Bistec de Palomilla, this was almost like a thin strip of steak served with rice and beans. Super flavorful. We first heard how good this place was in an article in the local paper about great and cheap spots in Hollywood and Dania. We love Cuban so we made the drive and were already talking about going back before we were done with dinner. This place is wonderful. Spotless inside, really nice staff and big, delicious portions. I had fried chicken chunks and my husband had beef Vaca Frita. With a couple beers, deserts and coffee and tip the whole bill was just over $40. The traditional grilled buttered bread was complimentary. We took home enough for leftovers dinner the next night. Excellent, every bite. Five stars! read more

On a busy road like 441. These ma & pa pop shops are easy to miss. But this is definitely a gem in the wall. Working in the area this place is a go-to. Their Cuban coffee is muy delicioso and one of cheapest I ever seen. For a colada it's only $1.35 after tax. I stop by here at least once or twice a week. They also have specials everyday of the week. I've tried their chicken steak and never looked back. It was under 10$ and it came with a lot of food. It came with the chicken steak, black beans, rice, plantains and bread. All you ever need for a complete hit-the-spot meal. The wonderful ladies who work here are very nice. I just noticed I wrote my first review for this place in 2012, I find it unbelievable I've been eating here that long lol. I have 230 check-ins for this place and I don't check-in most of the time lol. What's even better is I've only tried three dishes over eight years, and one of them I order 95% of the time, talk about being consistent. Seriously, I need Jesus in my life. This place is a little unassuming Cuban restaurant off of State Road 7. But what's odd about this place is that it's not owned by Cubans. I've asked both of the sisters who own the restaurant or are part of the family that owns the restaurant if they are Cuban and they said no. If I remember correctly they said they are from Nicaragua, so I asked them if their parents were Cuban and they said no again lol. I'm not sure if there is a misunderstanding in communication since their first language is Spanish but I just left it at that. Speaking of which I brought Snooki here once who happens to be a Hialeah born Cuban, but she won't admit it lol, If you ask her where she's from she'll say Coral Gables lol. Anyway, Snooki said it was some of the tastiest well-cooked Cuban she's ever had. I haven't been to Black Beans in a while and I decided to follow "The Goddess" Diandra's footsteps in going out of my way to support my favorite restaurants during this non-sensical lock-down. Diandra has taken supporting local businesses to a new level, I swear to Jesus Diandra is eating out like 5 times a day, and I think she's going to the "essential business" liquor store three times a week lol. Anyway, unlike Yardie Spice in Homestead which gave me bacteria-laden old food for lunch that made me have acid indigestion, bloating and general discomfort for over 24 hours. - "I did not and am not going to update my review because of the lockdown, but I'm not going back until well after the lockdown is over." - Black Beans Cafe gave me perfectly cooked and seasoned fresh food as they've done for 8 years. Even better they still gave me the lunch special price in these dire times for small businesses. I've never once in the 8 years I've been eating here have received bad, undercooked or old anything from this restaurant, everything is always consistently perfect! Once in a while, they hire a server who doesn't speak a word of English. If you can't communicate with them have some mercy, people are just trying to live and ask for another server. Since becoming a Hollywood resident, my husband and I have become regulars here. We have had spotty service here and there, and some menu items are hits and misses, but overall, this is our favorite local spot. Why? Because the breakfast is delicious. So is the pollo empanizado. The service is friendly when it's one of the regular/long time servers there (who now know us and our orders pretty well). It also has a feeling like you're in someone's home and makes you feel comfortable. As long as we're in Hollywood, this will be our favorite spot. read more

The food here is amazing!!! My mother and I shared a beef and chicken empanada. Both were juicy and flavorful. I had the fish fillet and my mother had the pork chops. Each dish came with plantains, rice and beans. After every bite I couldn't help but to say how good the food was! For dessert we shared the coconut flan which was refreshing and very tasty! Chicken empanada was pretty good size, breading is great, chicken portion was typical of any other empanada I've ever had, chicken flavor and seasoning was great! Steak was probably the thinnest I've ever seen. But it was a lunch portion, not sure if the dinner portion is any thicker? Flavor is great! The sautéed onions were perfect too. Would I recommend? Yes, yes, and yes. I've lived in Hollywood for over 28 years and this little tiny building didn't seem appealing enough for me to ever stop by. My son went to a barber in the area who recommended it and oh my goodness, this is my new favorite spot for the best Latin food. Honestly, it felt like you were visiting friends because they gave plenty of food and the cost was just right. Everything was delicious and tasty. Like I said it is an older building. You could tell it's been there for well over 30 years, nothing fancy on the inside, but the staff was awesome and their English was limited. Food - In today's oversaturated restaurant scene it's hard to find a non-gimmicky food centric place, this is one of them. Here you will find some of the best Cuban food north of county line road. I usually go with one of their daily lunch specials (many under $8) that come with the traditional side of rice, beans, and plantains. I suggest their oxtail, ropa vieja, or fricase de pollo. Their shakes are also delicious. Service - There's always 1-2 tables available at their busiest. Food arrives in under 10 minutes even during the lunch rush. Wait staff is always direct but kind. Location - Like I said above, this is not a fancy place. This is a working person's lunch spot that could have used a major renovation or an entire new building over ten years ago. The only restaurant I've ever been refused tap water with lunch. I had pills to take with lunch and requested water. The waitress brought me bottled water and when I asked for tap water, that I didn't want to pay extra for water, she replied, "ok, so no water" and left. Then when I gave her my credit card to pay, I said that I would meet her at the register and when I went up and was standing there, she put my check on the table even though she could see me standing by the register.and then called me to come retrieve it rather than bring it over to me at the register. They may have a grudge against me because a couple of years ago I waited for a half hour in an almost empty restaurant for a roast pork sandwich. After 25 minutes I told the waitress that I wasn't going to wait longer than30 minutes and I left 5 minutes later. They probably didn't care then and probably don't care now. I've always been a 20-25% tipper so that isn't the reason for this terrible service. I've been going there on and off since 2007, when I moved to Hollywood. Service used to be great but has gone downhill. There are many, many good choices for Latin food in this area so, I think that from now on I'll visit almost any other. read more
