We stopped in to run out our meter, and I grabbed a pink smoothie. Nothing amazing to write home about and it worked in a pinch. The staff was very nice.

It was a great stop for a quick lunch and snack. I got the banana bread latte which had a strong banana flavor. I also got a cookie and truffle chicken salad, which was prepackaged sandwich. Overall I enjoyed everything that I purchased.

Black door is good for what it is, a hotel coffee bar. They served la colombe beans and had a good variety on their menu. Not much in the way of hot food, mostly just grab and go type snacks. My latte was average. It was a nice place to sit and relax after walking around downtown Charleston of a long afternoon.

This little coffee shop is located inside Mills House Hilton hotel. People at the counter are friendly, they take your order quickly and you pick it up at the counter. I ordered their coffee that was on special - Banana bread latte - it was delish, creamy with just a hint of banana bread and cinnamon and perfect sweetness, even had a little coffee art done in milk foam. I also tried their chocolate croissant and while it was huge and very delicious looking unfortunately it was kinda old not crispy or flaky at all, it was served cold, probably leftover from previous day and chewy so big disappointment! I would still come back, it's convenient especially if you're staying in this hotel as I was.

Nice little coffee shop inside the Mills Hotel! It became my staple when I was in downtown Charleston. Nice atmosphere and great coffee.

Stopped in here on a walk in Charleston. It's a little cafe located in the lobby of a hotel. Had a long line the entire time we were here. They had a ton of items in line that looked yum, like mini cheese board plates and a ton of packaged drinks. The tables were pretty dirty but we wiped them off ourselves with napkins. We had iced vanilla and caramel lattes which were so good! The chicken biscuit was a bit dry and also crumbled as soon as it was picked up. The chocolate croissant was good but pretty basic. I would definitely stop in for coffee but pass on the food!

Had an affogato, latte, and the million dollar bar. All were really good! The MDB was $8 but so dense and rich you will probably stretch it out for quite a few servings. The affogato and latte were both really good! The latter had a nice, smooth flavor to it. I went here a while back for a Yelp event and glad I returned! J.Ja

From the two times I've visited this spot, so far, it's been a great experience. Conveniently located near my job with beautiful decor, delicious coffee drinks & friendly baristas.

I arrived pretty early in the morning and they were already out of several menu options. I settled for a buttered croissant, which was huge and could easily be split between two people. I asked that it be warmed and it could have stood a few more seconds in the toaster/microwave. My latte was just okay as the syrup and/or sauce options weren't distinguishable. About the best thing about my experience was the ambiance. The cafe itself is inside a hotel in downtown Charleston. It's cute with kind of a modern/traditional design style. There's a fireplace, which I imagine if it works, would be cool during cooler months. If you're staying at the hotel, it's a convenient stop, but I'd probably pursue other options if not.

Cutest cafe in the Mills House Hotel. Stopped by for a quick snack while shopping. Prices were reasonable and the food was great. Staff was friendly and gave recommendations on what they liked to eat and drink. We will definitely return to this cafe.

I stopped in to wait for my reservation for somewhere else and got a sparking tea. They had brownies from Sugar Studio that was yummy! Kind of pricey but a nice little hangout spot.

Wonderful cafe if you need a quick pick me up! The decor is unique and they offer desserts and snack items to-go. Service was fast! Located within the Mills Hotel

Luckily, we were able to be seated immediately but it was very close quarters with surrounding tables. The menu is vast with different dessert options. If you want to know what cakes are available, you should check out the display stand right when you enter. Since we were there 2.5 hours before closing, there didn't seem to be a lot of cake options available, but my husband and I decided to share a slice of the s'mores cake with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream to make it à la mode. The s'mores cake was a chocolate cake with mini marshmallows, chocolate fudge, graham crackers, and more marshmallows. The cake was good and had everything I could ever want in it, but it was a little dry. I think this also had to do with it being the end of the night. The ice cream complemented the flavor well. It would have been better with a second scoop of ice cream though. Service was great! It took about 10 minutes from when we ordered to get our dessert. I would probably come back here again, but not so late at night so there would be fresher cake with more options available.

We waited about 5 to 10 minutes to be acknowledged while two employees stood nearby. The two layer chocolate caramel pecan cake, which our waitress initially could not find, was dry and tasted stale. I would not order it again. The Tollhouse pie was a bit better, but the presentation and the whipped cream were the standouts, and the whipped cream wasn't even homemade! That's the best thing I could say about our experience. The food, pricing, service, and ambiance all fell below average. When you are located downtown with so many great dessert options around, you really need to step up your game. We will not be returning.

The cake is moist, perfectly sweet, and layered with fluffy coconut frosting. If you've been wanting to try it but don't feel like committing to a full fine-dining experience at Peninsula Grill, this is such a great, more casual way to enjoy it. I paired it with an espresso martini, which paired well with the dessert. I was disappointed that it wasn't served with their famous smoke bubble. The overall experience was just okay. Sitting at the bar was convenient, but the service felt pretty standard and the interior didn't really stand out or add much to the vibe. It's definitely more about the cake than the atmosphere here.

We were craving espresso martinis, and they quickly made a couple for us. Nice touch -- the glasses were chilled, which always makes a difference. That said, we do think the martinis may have been missing the classic foam "bubble" and espresso bean garnish. Honestly though, since they were closing and still accommodated us, we were just grateful they made them at all. If it had been mentioned that they'd be quick, simplified versions due to closing, we would've completely understood -- just something small for expectation-setting. Now let's talk about the coconut cake -- absolutely amazing. It's $17 for a slice, but the portion is HUGE. Easily shareable, and we still had to take some to-go. Super moist, flavorful, and worth every bite if you're a coconut fan. Also worth noting: the outdoor patio is pet-friendly, which is always a big plus for us. Great spot to stop with your pup while enjoying dessert or a cocktail. Overall, a positive experience -- especially thanks to the staff's hospitality at closing time. We'd definitely come back (earlier next time!) to enjoy the full experience.

Iced coffee was refreshing I came back the next morning for another round. It was flavorful yet not sugary. Although I was charged twice, the manager assured me they would fix it once the line was manageable. Somehow I trusted her word for it, just the manner with which she handled it was text book! Indeed, saw the overcharged taken care of by the next day. A must stop in downtown historic Charleston for sure! The pastry case was full and beautiful with savory and sweet options. There's a fair amount of indoor seating and a few outdoor tables. I ordered a hazelnut latte which was bold and delicious. Despite saying I was dining in, it was served in a to go cup - I do wish I received it in a cup/mug. I also tried the almond croissant which was flaky and not overly sweet. The croque monsieur was indulgent and cheesy - although, I wish it was slightly hotter when served. The portion of everything matched the price.
