Enjoyed the plain apple cider donuts more than the sugar coated ones as they had a bit of a crisp to them. Next to them were an assortment of remaining pastries from the day in his display case, each a different kind of fluffy indulgence. Even if I wanted to be considerate of his time, he appreciated me taking the space to choose the cookies and pastries I took home alongside a Black and White frosted marble cake. Before I left, he managed to tell me a story as a token of his gratitude. Greggory had been making cakes on the other side of the country, and how even if people from around the world came to his host's shop for cakes, the human connection meant more than just the art or industry of cake making. The area he came home to has a community of people who became his clients, regular customers, and friends. Before I left, I was touched that even if I were being his last customer of the day, he treated me as if I were as important as his first or any in between. No, I didn't get to clear out his remaining stock, even if I wanted to try each of what remained. But I know where to look for him when coming east from 91--he's to your right on the south, at the corner of the building I'd describe as "that house-like outlet strip mall barn." Yes, the nearby farms do help this description appear natural. :)

God help me if I could rate 0 stars I would. To say that my experience today was appalling would be an extreme understatement. Where to start? The 50 minute wait? The fact that there were only 2 people in the kitchen when there was 10/15+ tickets? The complete and utter lack of any sense of urgency? The excessive amount of eye rolling and frankly, rude behavior by all the staff? The screaming match I had with a worker in order to get a refund after waiting 50 minutes? Or maybe, just maybe, I'll start with the fact that there was a man in the kitchen with his underwear exposed. It's not the best photo. But it shows it well enough. Now, I am pro expression. I don't care what you wear. But, there reaches a point where I begin to question how appropriate - sanitary even - it can be to have your ass out in an environment where you are handling food. "Thank you for mentioning what I am wearing at work." This is what was screamed at me when I addressed the fact in the restaurant. Absolutely horrible. I actually don't know what was worse, the fact that his ass was out in a kitchen, or that the manager was standing there next to him and did not care. This same day I saw some of the most disrespectful staff - one of which I watched roll their eyes and "pff" after every time a customer asked 'how much longer will it be?' I truly hope that this review gets seen and helps inform people about the kind of service and wait you should expect at this restaurant. I have been to The Black Sheep Deli three times and I really enjoyed my food and experience there. From my past three experience, this is some positive and negative feedback. Positive: -Delicious breakfast sandwiches -Delicious lunch sandwiches -Large menu -Great options -Shows what foods are local -Free water -Live music -Friendly services -The workers used my first name several times when addressing me Negative: -Not consistent with coffee orders -Should train all staff on how to make every drink to make it more consistent -I went with a party of 5 and my friend had to wait a lot longer for her food and she ordered something simple -Seating is limited Overall Experience: Overall, I would give The Black Sheep four stars because the negative feedback I believe can easily be fixed. This was my third visit to Blacksheep and I would definitely go back. The reasons why I would go back are because of the overall atmosphere, customer service, and the food. The food was delicious. A little earthy crunchy escape I wish I had discovered earlier on during my time in Amherst. In the spirit of a quick service Sunday Brunch, I ordered the Hamlet- a breakfast sandwich composed of: Baked Omelet, Black Forest Ham, Swiss Cheese, roasted red peppers, raspberry mustard on a croissant (I substituted for a sesame bagel). I got the spiced hazelnut latte (iced) to accompany the sandwich. While the Hamlet was good, I found the omelet a bit rubbery. I wish I had substituted the croissant for a bread other than the bagel (a bit chewy), but the bagel came recommended. The raspberry mustard was my favorite combination of flavors in the sandwich. The latte was absolutely delicious. The spices were brewed into the expresso, resulting in a harmonious hazelnut spice with a bit of a kick. 10/10 would go back just for the specialty beverages. The staff was incredibly personable, and my cashier/barista remembered (and used!) my name three times during the entire transaction and drink order. read more

An absolute gem of a bakery! Chocolate mousse is the world's finest. Lemon squares that pop and massage your mouth at the same time. Every baked goodie is really a baked greatie! What they don't make better than anyone else in town is bagels and they readily admit this by obtaining frequent shipments of real bagels from New York City. As a result? You simply cannot get a better bagel in Amherst! I fault them for making messy sandwiches. I personally hate messy sandwiches and the cruelest part is that they are the tastiest and most generous sandwiches in the world. The work around is to use a fork and knife. I visited The Black Sheep on a Sunday morning around 10am. I had never been before and did not know what to expect. I was immediately impressed with the welcoming and lively atmosphere. I thought the menu selections were excellent and wanted to try multiple. I ended up ordering the Santa Fe breakfast sandwich. It was delicious! If I had to choose a place to get coffee or a muffin, this would not be the place. It's clean enough and prices are fine, but the staff are unfriendly and the food and coffee isn't good enough to be faced, as a customer with unfriendly and cold staff. Also, there is a five dollar minimum to use your debit card, so if you just want to get a coffee, you cannot use your debit card. read more

They did. So I came back a THIRD time and ordered it AGAIN, just to see if they can still keep their vegan cheese melted just right on top. It was incredible, AGAIN. Now that I've gotten this out of the way, ask where it is on their new menu as it is under revision--I don't like the tempeh version as much. Onto the rest of the atmosphere of Cushman. One of the most pleasant features of Cushman Market and Cafe is that it is nestled at an important corner in northeast Amherst. You need to travel further west to get to The Mill District and not much opens there early, and there's little else I can recall in the other cardinal directions. It's a pleasant trip, with plenty of parking in front, behind, and in a strip of side road across the street. I've never been in the market, so let me keep talking about the Cafe. The atmosphere of the Cafe is wonderful, with locals, safety officers, and regulars all visiting at each meal hour from breakfast to lunch. Nestled inside what looks like an old barn, complete with doors still hanging, Cushman has memorabilia from decades of music, sports, politics, and news frozen under acrylic, different for many of their tables. The café seems to have at most 20 chairs, and the staff behind the counter will deliver it to your table, call your name, or leave other orders by a stand near the back entrance. Cushman Cafe offers a variety of meals, alongside baked goods and freshly mixed café drinks. While I'm not a fan of the switcherels, I have enjoyed their dirty Chai lattes, iced teas, fresh coffees, and free water if I recall in a pinch. They have gender neutral bathrooms--which is great if you're tired of waiting in line for one of two as they are large but single occupancy. They offer cold panini sandwiches, hot panini, all sorts of eggs, egg sandwiches, and egg breakfasts, vegan and vegetarian options, alongside a seemingly visible carnivorous focus for their new menu's default. If you had a chance to hop on a bus and travel around Amherst, or you were passing through to the highways, Cushman Cafe is worth a quick stop. I've rarely had to wait long for my meals even in busy hours, and this is because of the large and competent kitchen, who--if you'll remember--can get a delicious sandwich right any day of the week. I hope cell service returns there!

The cold latte and scone were mine and I enjoyed both a lot. The latte had great blueberry flavor and the scone was fantastic. We shared the baked treats, and the macaroon was great too, with plenty of chocolate chips, and a freshly made gooey consistency. We both noted how fresh everything was. My O'Hara hit the spot and the bag of chips that came with it made for a perfect pair. The space is clean, service was quick and friendly and sandwiches were filling. I do see some other reviews mention price, but I am from Jersey where everything is expensive so nothing shocks me anymore. For around $25 we had a lovely lunch.

I went to Cooper's after a long hiatus because of the prices, and ordered an old favorite- tuna…read morepasta salad. It was sad how different the salad, which has been a favorite for decades, was. They shouldn't call it tuna pasta because there was barely any tuna. It was not even close to the way it was for many years. I actually added my own tuna to the salad I bought. I've heard the buzz about how downhill Cooper's has gone, and how overpriced it is, and unfortunately, it's all true. Nothing at the deli is consistent. I ordered two sandwiches- one had plenty of meat, the other hardly any. A small, local, beloved deli has now priced most people out of affording to shop there. I used to be able to get pounds of delicious salads for parties; now a half pound of mediocre deli food is out of the question. This is Florence, Mass. Remember who you used to be, Cooper's.
