Lovely to meet the owner; unexpectedly one of the better rib eye steaks I've had. Amazingly delicious fried burrada. We were there for my girlfriends birthday 23 of us were served taken care of treated with respect . The wonderful owner lives down the block and us a local letting us know the decor is original to when the place was an ice cream shop. Only thing you have to worry about is street parking other that that great spot with indoor our seating and wonderful staff.

The Black Whale is such a charming spot on City Island--the ambiance is everything, both inside and out! We sat on the outdoor patio, which was beautiful and relaxing. The only small downside was a few things falling from the trees into our food and drinks, but honestly, the atmosphere made up for it. I ordered the Homemade Meatloaf with Mushrooms & Bacon in a Red Wine Sauce, served with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables--absolutely delicious! I also tried the Pan-Seared Maryland Crab Cakes, which were flavorful and perfectly cooked. Both dishes were satisfying and well-portioned. Definitely coming back--great food, great vibes, and a perfect spot for a cozy meal or a celebration.

I stopped at The Black Whale for dinner with a whale of an appetite. Overall, they serve excellent food, but the service could use some work. Upon arriving, I was immediately seated. My waitress was extremely knowledgeable and gave me a rundown of their menu. I also conveyed to her my food allergies, one of which was tomato. Nevertheless, I was served bruschetta with tomato. When I asked for more bruschetta, but without the tomato, I was then again served bruschetta with tomato! Fortunately, my food allergies are quite mild, and in both cases, I was able to scrape the tomato off. However, the failure to communicate a patron's food allergies could have devastating consequences and is a service error that should never exist. The rough service aside, I did enjoy the food. I started out with a watermelon soup. Unlike other watermelon soups I've had in the past, their watermelon soup was less sugary. The somewhat neutral taste of the soup was perfectly complimented by watermelon chunks. The soup also came with oyster crackers - which I thought was extremely odd at first - but ended up pairing very well with the soup. For my entree, I had the Chicken Stroganoff. This was perhaps the best Chicken Stroganoff I've ever had. There was a perfect proportion of chicken to pasta, with the perfect amount of cheese. The sauce was excellent and tied the entire dish together.

Good ambiance and service is great. Food is good. Bartender is so cool and inviting. Makes good drinks. Quaint little place in city Island. Outside patio with antique furniture.

As soon as you walk into this establishment you feel the artistic vibe of the interior decorator which transports your body to a serene state, I love the dessert choices which also transports your taste buds to a happy place. I have to say the service was good and the staff made you feel so welcomed. I highly recommend this place the prices are fair but parking might be challenging but with a little patience a parking spot will show up. Definitely recommend if you are in City Island in The Bronx

Anytime I want to cater to my seafood cravings and a nice date night with my love, I come here. Mussels were over the top great, juicy garlicky and flavorful. I also love their creativity indoors. It's dim, relaxing and cozy. Antiques everywhere. There is so much to look at and I love it because it gives you something to chat about.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, the buzz on the street was that we were eating at the best restaurant in town. We waited for the restaurant to open. We were seated promptly. Very cute decor. We received complimentary bread (so it was so good). We ordered oysters, crab cake and apple fritter dessert. It was quite the multi course meal. Oysters were fresh and clean. Crab cake had some nice chunk of crab and it was flavorful. No dry crab cake here. The dessert was a huge portion. You can easily split the dessert with another person. Highly recommended it.

The food is the best food on City Island hands down! The staff is friendly but unfortunately they only take cash. It's seldom that I carry cash with me and definitely didn't expect that at a above average priced restaurant. But if that's not an issue for you, then I promise you won't be disappointed in anything about this beautiful place.

Fettuccine with shrimp, mussels, and crab meat in a spicy marinara sauce. Insane!

The chef comes from the world of high-end NYC dining, and you can feel that experience in every detail of the food. There's a level of creativity, precision, and thoughtfulness here that honestly feels Michelin-worthy. This makes sense, because the restaurant has earned that recognition. Beyond the food, Archie's also has one of the best Scotch and whiskey (bourbon and rye included) selections anywhere in the area. It feels curated by people who genuinely care about food and drink, not just running another restaurant. We eat there often, especially for brunch, which is spectacular and consistently better than it has any right to be for a neighborhood spot on City Island. The best example of the attention to detail was the chopped cheese sandwich special. When it arrived, my first thought was: "How is anyone supposed to eat this giant thing?" But then you take a bite and realize the bread was custom made specifically for the sandwich. Somehow it completely melts in your mouth along with the meat and cheese, making this enormous sandwich unexpectedly delicate and perfectly balanced. It's the kind of detail most restaurants would never even think about. Archie's is a true hidden gem and proof that truly exceptional food can exist in places you wouldn't expect.

I especially enjoyed the surprise tartar sauce on the burger. I'm usually a sauce on the side kinda girl, and never have had tartar sauce on a beef burger. 10/10 recommend. However, I do also suggest noting the sauce on the menu so that there are no surprises for picky customers. Truffle fries were cooked to perfection. My table also ordered a lobster roll and wings. The terrace was a a cute bonus...cozy yet entertaining, buzzing with laughter and the rustle of the fire pit that you could sit around and relax with a glass of wine, a perfect stage for sharing stories with your fam or friends. Every dish that was an astonishing presentation. The shrimp arrived glistening, its sweetness lifted by a tangy white sauce that demanded dipping and spreading. The lobster roll was a masterclass....chilled, yes, but each bite was full of juicy, sweet lobster meat, the mayo proportion on it was my fav on that dish. But the best part of house was the steak dish, truly breathtaking with the sauce. Didn't really try the mussel pasta or the fruit salad due to allergies, but others at the table who had it really enjoyed it. Proportions were great. The ambiance is a cute restaurant near/on the pier. Truly appreciative that it is an accessible restaurant with wheelchair ramps. The joy of lingering over good food with good and some familiar yelp folks was just the highlight of it all.

Take Archie's and Ohana- that aren't completely 'OG'- caliber- but, have remained a staple for the last 8-9 years. Now, it's Frida's turn. Since it was my turn to pick a restaurant for an outing to spend some sister time, Frida's low-key feel seemed like a good fit. Located on the southbound(?) lane heading towards the water, Little Frida has a nice light-color charm with a couple of turquoisey outdoor tables, two tables inside and some window high-top seating. The design is more trendy and subdued than the colorful and classic style seen in a lot of a Mexican restaurants. The menu is simple and basic- with burgers added to the mix and no cocktail situation- just conventional and Mexican soft drinks like Jarritos and some agua frescas. Our server Nazaret, brought us a nice helping of thick tortilla chips- the way I like them instead of the flimsy ones that break just by looking at them with Guacamole and Salsa dips. The Guacamole was better tasting than the large tomato chunk salsa in my opinion. Our drinks were plentiful- but between Agua de Jamaica(s) that were ordered and my horchata, they missed on flavors. My Shrimp Tacos were packed real nice with.... diced tomatoes, purple cabbage (yum), onions, etc- with cut up shrimp. Good though. All the other dishes my sisters ordered, seemed ok. We enjoyed the green sauce Nazaret brought us and it wasn't tear-inducing at all- which we all tolerated on each of our dishes. To finish things off, our server brought a shareable slice of a flan from his Abuelita's recipe that had all the right notes of creamy, rich and a wonderful amber-sugar-caramel taste. We all dogged it. Frida is very modest, service is super nice, these folks make their own tortillas- and food is flavorful.
