My favorite whiskey bar! I'm also proud to be a member of the whiskey club. I love learning and trying whiskeys from all over the world here. Amazing selections and fantastic service. Everyone here is so nice. Rob, the Bar Director, really creates a great vibe and sense of community. You can order food at the bar too. Delicious food!! There is a parking garage and plenty of street parking too. I love this place!

    Old Fashioned

Lawrence is prolly the best bar tender to ever make me an Old Fashioned. It was made properly with a quick flame to the orange peel. Highly recommended.

Ask the Community - Bull And Barrel

Is Bull & Barrel a separate location from Alexanders? Or is it the name of the bar inside Alexanders? Also, can you make reservations just for Bull & Barrel?

It's located within Alexander's Steakhouse Pasadena.

Do they have dine in currently?

Yes, Bull & Barrel is open for dine-in. Guests can enjoy the full Alexander’s Steakhouse menu in the bar and patio areas. We also offer a special bar-only menu during Social Hour, available Sunday through Thursday from 5:00 to 6:30 PM.

What are the hours? I'm seeing it open for lunch hours Wednesday through Friday and brunch hours on the weekend on yelp, but Alexander's website only shows dinner hours and no mention of a lunch or brunch menu.

Hours have been updated. We are closed during the day. Open 7 days a week for dinner service. Thank you.

Is this a good place to drop in with friends for a few drinks at the bar?

Absolutely! Savor rare and exotic whiskies, seasonal creations, or timeless classic cocktails. During Social Hour, enjoy exclusive bar bites—or indulge in the full Alexander’s Steakhouse menu, available right at the bar.

The menu was scanned via QR code and it was easy enough to access. We both got burgers, mine was a beyond patty and my fiancé got a beef one. The food came so quickly and the French fries were DELICIOUS. I've been looking for a new favorite fry since Pizza of Venice was lost in the Eaton Fire and I think these may be it! Funny that we didn't try the drinks or spend time inside at the bar but from sitting outside on a cold winter night, I can only imagine the inside is even more fun!

When we walked in, there was a tall, bald male bartender and a blonde female bartender working--neither of whom I've seen here before. We ordered two drinks, but the service from the male bartender was inattentive from the start. At one point, my friend tried to get someone's attention to ask for a lime and wasn't acknowledged. She ended up grabbing a lime herself from the garnish tray--which I understand isn't ideal--but the response we got was completely out of line. The male bartender became immediately hostile and started aggressively cursing at my friend. When I calmly asked the female bartender if this was normal behavior, he inserted himself into the conversation and said, "she put her fucking hand in the fucking jar," in a very confrontational tone. I tried to de-escalate the situation and respectfully explained that there was no reason to speak to us that way, but he continued the hostility and ultimately told us to "get the fuck out." At that point, I paid for our drinks and we left. What made this especially disappointing is that this has never been our experience here before. We've always enjoyed this bar and have had positive interactions with the regular staff. If this had been my first visit, I would not come back. I understand that what my friend did wasn't appropriate, but it absolutely did not justify being yelled at and cursed out. I hope management addresses this, because this kind of behavior is not reflective of the bar I've come to know.

The hostess and our server (both occasions we dined here) were extremely friendly and really made our dining experience very enjoyable. Very lovely ambience. First time we came here was for my wife's birthday. We came for brunch and it happened to be Mother's Day Weekend. We were a bit bummed because the only reason I made reservations to have brunch here was specifically because they had Crab Cake Benedicts on the menu (my wife's favorite). However, when we arrived I noticed it was not on the menu. I asked our server and he mentioned it was removed literally only for that day, and replaced with a "special" Smoked Salmon Benedict. I really wish they had just added the Smoked Salmon Benedict as a special, rather than replace the popular Crab Cake offering all together. Anyhow - frustrations aside, we ordered the Smoked Salmon Benedict, and honestly it was still very very good. My wife was happy with it and that's all that mattered lol. The smoked salmon was tasty, and the eggs were cooked perfectly, nice and runny for both of us. The potatoes were amazing. Very crispy! For dessert, we got the chocolate cookie skillet with the ice cream. I can't remember the exact name of it, but it was really good. Tip: ask for extra ice cream. The scoop it comes with is a little small compared to the size of the cookie. We still felt unfulfilled though, and so we came back 2 weeks later for brunch a 2nd time, and this time we called ahead to make sure they had the crab cake Benedicts back on the menu. Couldn't risk it! LOL. The crab cake Benedict was good. Maybe I set my expectations too high haha, but it was still good. My wife and I both ordered it. This time, my eggs were unfortunately way over cooked. I didn't want to complain or anything, so I just ate it. Luckily my wife's eggs were runny and cooked perfectly. Also the potatoes were not as crispy this time. Conclusion - The food is good. First time we came here it was better than the 2nd time, and this was only 2 weeks apart, and ordering basically the same thing, eggs Benedicts. As mentioned, 2nd time my eggs were over cooked. We still really LOVED dining here and definitely will be back soon to try their dinner since both times we came here was for brunch only. The ambience was really amazing truly. We've only sat on the patio, but it was very peaceful, not too loud, and felt quite romantic. Parking: There is valet, but both times we came for brunch (around 10:30am) and found street parking very close by. I would imagine street parking could be harder at different times of the day, but for early brunch there was plenty of street parking available.

Usually we order the A5 kagoshima special, but it was a 20oz which was way too big for us. We opted for a cut of the Miyazaki and Sanuki. They were absolutely delicious. When you've had as much A5 wagyu as you wanted, you know that the small cuts have to be insanely delicious to be meaningful. Every bite was extremely juicy and tasty. The salt plate is always one of the highlights of the night and each one makes the flavour of the meat pop out. Side dishes are also always perfect. From fun nights out, special occasions, whiskey tastings, exploring the speakeasy... playing some pool, enjoying libations, taking in live music, perfect outings on the patio, the occasional cigar. So many great memories and experiences created here including some awesome date days with my other half. If stopping in for the first time you'll discover S.G. on 7th and Grand Avenue with a door person usually always at the bottom of the staircase just outside of the restaurant/cocktail bar Zaya (which has been many incarnations including Bar CDMX, V and Mas Malo). Provide them with a valid ID, as anybody over 21 should have a valid form of identification on them at all times, not just for driving or access to 21+ events or establishments, but for safety. And Seven Grand cares about everyone and their safety. They value their staff as much as their customers. And it shows in every way from thoughtful space in all directions, great pool tables, a whiskey, bourbon and scotch curated cocktail menu, even some good brew/beer. Awesome hallways with cabinet lockers, the cleanest restrooms, great dim dark warm lighting, fun fixtures and true DTLA vibes that feel old timey yet also very modern. Seven Grand is open to all and all are welcome. Stellar daily happy hour 4pm to 8pm. I love a good $10 Toki Highball at 5pm, but you can't go wrong with their classic old fashion also. All the bartenders are incredible as well as personable. S Grand is open every day from 4pm until 2am. Loads of lots close by as well as the Metro station at 7th and Metro. This last visit was frustrating enough that we won't be rushing back. We came in just before 6:00 PM with a babysitter and a limited window. The restaurant wasn't busy, maybe five tables, but service was completely off. Our entrée took about 45 minutes. It was comped, but no one acknowledged the delay. No apology, no explanation, nothing. We also got the wrong side (fries instead of onion rings), and while it was corrected quickly, it added to the overall feeling that no one was really paying attention. The bigger issue was how absent the service felt. Our server never came back for a second round of drinks, and I had to go to the bar myself. When I mentioned it, the response was basically that the server was busy with another table, which felt dismissive given how long we had already been waiting. No one was busy. By the time food arrived, it was around 6:45 PM. The problem wasn't just the wait, it was the lack of communication or basic hospitality the entire time. I actually emailed the restaurant directly after our visit and never heard back, which is disappointing and honestly says a lot. At this point, it's hard not to feel like they just don't really care about the customer experience or about keeping people coming back. It's a shame, because the place has potential, but right now it doesn't feel like it's being taken seriously.

I didn't even know they had a back room, as last time we sat in the front. All of the dishes tonight were shared, except for the drink. I had the White Lotus drink, which was very similar to an Aperol Spritz. We shared the Pork Meatballs. These were 5 out of 5. They were so tasty, dense, large and the sauce and spice were perfect. We then shared the Mushroom Gnocchi. This is exactly how it sounds; however, I felt it was definitely lacking flavor, and would give it a 4 out of 5. We then moved on to the main course, which was the Pork Chop with an Apricot Sauce and a herb salad with fruit. I would give this dish a 5 out of 5, excellent. We ended the meal with the Strawberry Rhubarb Crumble. This was kind of the disappointment of the meal. It wasn't bad; however, it was not a crumble; we didn't taste any strawberry or rhubarb. The ice cream on the top was the highlight of this dish. It would get a 2 out of 5. Our server was very nice; however, a little rushed at times, especially during the early part of our service when the restaurant was nearly to capacity. Overall, a good to great visit.
