Found this little dive on yelp - A little gruff on the inside but when you order... Huge portions and the food was great! We had the blue crab quiche and the corned beef hash with a side of bacon... The quiche was nicely made with real crab, and the corned beef hash was not made from the can... I would come here again for breakfast for sure. Im sure everything else is really nice! Oh.. I don't get why there are lines into this place. The meal was okay but I could have gotten it for the same price and quality in 30 other places in town without waiting and more comfortable seating and faster service. Not worth waiting in line. After reading lots of great review, I was surprised with such a bad experience. The food was good, the bacon was the best I've had in a while, however it seemed to me if you weren't a local or a regular you weren't all that important. Our server forgot the orange juice we ordered, which we had to ask for a second time when the food came out by another server. When our server returned with the juice she set it down and said "here you go". No 'sorry for the wait', 'no explanation', no 'how does everything look', and she didn't return to the table after that until she brought the check. Meanwhile I watched visit a local table three time. We ordered the corn beef hash with no peppers and onions... and guess what we got....peppers and onions, but because she never checked on us or asked how everything was, we were left to deal with it. Being so hungry my boyfriend just picked it all out and ate the rest without a word. Then came my personal icing on the cake. When the electronic tablet was shoved in my face after she swiped my card, with no explanation, my customer service inner demon was screaming. When asking for gratuity by way of mobile POS, it's polite to inform your patron what your asking for. If it's awkward for you to ask for a tip while holding the device, here is a verbal prompt.... "This is an optional gratuity page, once you've made a selection, please sign on the following page" then simply look away if you feel uncomfortable asking for a tip, which is essentially what is going on. Needless to say, I wasn't pleased, won't be returning, and won't be referring! read more

Simply the best!! Doesn't really matter what you order... It's all really good... If it looks appealing go ahead and try it... You won't be disappointed... About the only downside is there is usually a wait, but they do take out as well as dining in.... Absolute mandatory visit if your in ST Augustine. read more

My husband and I had the pumpkin pancakes with a side of sausage this morning for breakfast. The pancakes were light and fluffy; the sausage was very good. I noticed there was no huge glob of butter on the oancakes, which was appreciated, but after reading the previous reviews about that peach botter, realized that we didn't get any and am bummed! read more

Best spot for breakfast in St. Augustine. I only wish it was bigger, as we couldn't get in for a second visit on a Sunday. Our group of six was promptly seated (on a Friday) and we were amazed at the low prices. We ordered the breakfast sandwich, pumpkin pancakes, veggie enchilada and a standard two egg breakfast. One of our favorite places in St. Augustine for breakfast and lunch. Good and fresh done with style. Love the Fried green tomato sandwich with the chunky baked then pan fried potatoes. Tucked away in what appears to be a decrepit neighborhood just outside of historic St.Augustine is a gem called The Blue Hen. My fiance and I came for breakfast/Brunch today (Sunday) and there was only a small wait, although they were steadily busy. This is a cute, hipster spot with well done food that has a ton of heart. This place is not for the light breakfast eater! Their food is hearty and fried and freakin delicious!!!! And that's coming from someone who typically has a cup of coffee for breakfast. Speaking of coffee, theirs was delish! Bacon appeared sloppy and greasy but turned out to be the yummiest bacon I've ever had. I had pumpkin pancakes that were yummy. My fiance had the fried chicken biscuit breakfast sandwich with peach butter. We added some honey for some much needed moisture and took it to a whole 'nother level of delectable! Parking was a cinch. The only con, I would say, is that they are understaffed. Three ladies on the floor in a packed restaurant to do the hosting, serving, bussing, and to work behind the bar. Based on Yelp reviews we went here for breakfast. My husband had the chicken biscuits. The meat was tender and biscuit cooked perfect. The peach butter was a perfect addition. A fantastic new addition to Lincolnville. I have heard it said many times that this neighborhood is being revitalized and if that is so then this place is certainly part of that. You can't go wrong with the chicken biscuits (Hint: Throw the slaw on top and drizzle on some sriracha for culinary bliss). The staff are friendly and you really can't go wrong with anything on the breakfast or lunch menu. If you want breakfast though, especially on a sunday you got get there early enough to wait a couple minutes before they turn the sign. The attitude of my server was very unprofessional and unpleasant. I had to complete a work assignment on my computer as I ate breakfast and felt very unwelcome after I had finished my food and remained for 15- 20 minutes to complete work sipping on coffee. For the total 60 minutes that I was present in the Cafe and over 30+ dollars spent, I thought her attitude was poor and I felt uncomfortable and disrespected. The average time a person spends in a restaurant is most likely 60 minutes to 2 hours....for me I spent at the lower end, spent the higher end of an overpriced breakfast, and then had a sour server. The other staff members were pleasant and helpful, and the food is always good...but please remember that not everyone who is coming to dine can afford to without having to multi-task. The cafe can serve the best food in the world, but if you have a bad attitude the taste left over is sour. read more
