As far as the night life goes here, I've only been a couple of times, but it did come off as pretty classy on those occasions. Nothing special about the drinks, but nothing lacking either. I remember upstairs the music being too loud, but it is nice that there's music and that you have two floors to traverse. Being a little classier, though, it also won't produce the crazy next-day stories that some other places in A2 will. I've also been here for food one time, and Marie H hit the nail on the head. The Blue Leprechaun has replaced Touchdowns, a change seemingly for the better. Note that I've never been to Touchdowns, so I can't really compare. But from comments I've heard (e.g. "it's worse than a cross between the Brown Jug and Studio 4"), I can only begin to imagine what it used to be like. So, when a group of co-workers and I decided to have dinner at BL, I was definitely nervous and curious. Turns out the BL has completely renovated the interior. There were bright lights, lots of tables, and a central bar area, with fancy plasma TVs. Downstairs were pool tables and a private bar area you can reserve (Red's Den). Although I made reservations for Bo's Den, the private dining room in front of the restaurant, another group was seated in the private room, and we ended up sitting in the main dining area. Happy Hour ends at 7pm, and all draft beers and appetizers are $1 off, so of course we ordered a few appetizers. We started off with jalapeno poppers (deliciously fried, but not spicy), spinach and artichoke dip with blue corn chips (nothing special), and potato skins (6 potato slices covered with bacon, cheese, sour cream, and onions... so good!). For dinner, I ordered the shepard's pie, per the menu's recommendation, which came with a small side salad. The shepard's pie was okay, but I realized/confirmed that I actually don't like lamb, so I'm not sure why I ordered that particular dish. I mooched off some of my friend's dishes, including the corned beef and cabbage (yum..), and the skinny fries that came with sandwich meals. The service was decent. Everyone seemed to be young (in college, or a few years out) and friendly. There weren't too many other people during dinner, but it was early on a Thursday night. Prices were reasonable as well. I'd definitely come back to BL again to check out the bar scene on Friday and Saturday evenings. From what I've heard, it's a mix of undergrads and older folks, and not the same vibe as Touchdown's. read more

Grab a group, grab a table & let the party begin! The atmosphere is electric on Thursdays, and just a great place to assemble with a group to grab a drink. Especially love the basement. Only criticism is there is not a lot of mingling outside of the various groups. read more

There has always just been something about this bar that I don't really like. Maybe, it's too loud, or the bar food is terrible, that there never seems to be any space, that it's difficult to squeeze your way to the bar to get drinks, or I'm just annoyed that every law school event is here. I groan every I end up getting dragged here and I curse and end up just going straight to Rick's every time there's a line. THERE SHOULD NEVER BE A LINE FOR BLUE LEP! It's not worth waiting. Saving grace: On Sundays there are $8 pitchers of everything they have on tap. An $8 dollar Oberon pitcher is the only reason this isn't 1 star. read more

It wasn't crowded. Like, at all. Ordered wings. Took 20 minutes. Most dry, least meaty wings I've ever had in my life. Freezer-to-microwave Meijer brand wings would have been infinitely better (even if they don't exist?) Definitely best bar on South U if not the best bar in Ann Arbor. My friends and I practically lived at this bar when it was open, and everyday are asking "when is the blue lep gonna open back up?" (it is closed due to a pipe burst, and is expected to open back up in April). Everything about this place--from the vibes, the service, the drinks are amazing. The environment is conducive for easily meeting other people/starting new conversations. It's also a great place if you have a group of friends and want to have a fun night out with everyone. There's nothing special about this college bar. The interior is in good shape and there are plenty of TVs to watch games on. Food is average bar fare. Blue Lep can be a popular undergrad hangout on weekends so be warned. It does have some great specials; however, on multiple occasions they have tried to overcharge me when I was part of a large group. Look, I get that a party of 15 is hard to keep track of- but tell us you can't split the check or don't offer 50% off if you're just going to include phantom orders with the bill. They have bar trivia here on Tuesday nights but it's not the best format in town. read more

Sad they got rid of the pool table downstairs...that's one of the reasons they lost a star. 80% of the staff are awesome...Some of the servers don't pay attention to your table or what you ask for, some of the servers are the best I've encountered in Ann Arbor. I like the atmosphere most of the time. Food is pretty okay. Had good and bad experiences with it, but that happens when there are multiple people cooking. This was our group's hang out for the FIFA world cup games. It's not too busy during the day, so if you want to relax with a few people and brews, I'd recommend it. The appetizers are extremely well priced before 9pm. After that, stick to booze. Also probably the cheapest drafts I could find without finding myself in a grimy place. The location is excellent and $8 pitchers are fantastic. Upstairs is Bro'd out at night with how close frat row is, but downstairs is a little more chill if you just want to hang out with friends. read more

First time in the place. Checked out the menu online before going. Menu seemed great. I was looking for a good sandwich. I ordered a grilled cheese with bacon and tomato. I was excited about it considering I love grilled cheese. The food took oddly long for 3 sandwiches and fries. When my food came out I received some dry toast with cold cheese and cold bacon. The sandwich was so dry it hurt my mouth to eat it. The company I came with was also dissatisfied with their sandwich's, soggy and cold. Also when we walked in the place was empty and smelled like someone had urinated all over. Needless to say I will NEVER EVER be returning. For me, personally, this is a 2-star kind of place, but I'm not their target audience. If you want someplace to drink cheap pints ($3 for a black and tan!) and watch U of M football or play some pool in the basement, it's great. My friends and I went there for an Irish pub atmosphere to have dinner and drinks and were underwhelmed. It's smoky and loud, and this made conversation difficult. I loved the cheap pints and the food was fine if not amazing. I had the fish and chips. The fish was good and came with shoestring fries and a small dish of coleslaw. I thought the slaw was fine, though my husband thought it was a little dry. Another friend also got the fish, which is served in a basket on paper that's checked blue and white. She was grossed out by the fact that the blue dye came off on the bottom of her fish fillet. I didn't notice it and so it didn't bother me, but the cook staff there might want to rethink the blue theme in this particular case. One last positive: the booths there are quite roomy; there was plenty of room to fit six adults without being packed in too tight. read more

After eating at the Blue Leprechaun once, I can honesty say that I'm not very interested in coming back again. I'll likely give them another try though; I was with a rather large party, and they did do a great job at getting the food out in a timely manner. The Blue Leprechaun is in a great location, and the building itself isn't too shabby. It has the look of a typical dive-ish bar. I didn't drink here, so I can't comment on their beer. I ordered the (fried) vegetable sampler, and my partner had veggie burger with thin cut fries. My sampler was okay. I really enjoyed the fried zucchini, but ended up offering almost everything else to my friends. It came with 4 different sauces (ranch, BBQ, marinara, and something spicy) for the various fried veggies. I stuck to the ranch. My partner's burger was pretty bland. It wasn't bad tasting, just very underwhelming. And the fries that came with it were paper thin, greasy, over cooked, and cold. Not very appetizing. If not for the size of my party, I wouldn't give Blue Leprechaun another chance. The food was below average overall, though the service was decent (not outstanding). The location is prime, though I'm sure you can find better food in the area. read more

I've been to Blue Lep many times, so I'm not quite sure why I haven't written a review yet. Again, I find myself wishing Yelp did half stars, because I would give Blue Lep a solid 4.5 stars. I'm not gonna round up because non-grad night prices aren't that stellar, but I do feel bad leaving only four stars. Grad night. Gotta love it. Everything is so cheap! The food isn't anything special, but it's not bad, and when it's half off, you really can't complain. I haven't tried anything beyond the appetizers, but I don't think I'd ever find myself here for dinner. It just seems like it wouldn't be that great. Drinks? There's always at least a couple beers on tap that I like, and they carry Magner's cider, which is my favorite cider by far. The cocktails and shooters aren't too bad, but nothing special. Typical for a college bar, I would say. Prices on the shooters could be a little better, but I don't think I'd order them even if they were cheaper so to me it's really a non-issue. Oh I should mention, half off on Bear Fights on grad night makes for a pretty good deal. If you're into that sort of thing. Service has always been pretty decent for me. We usually get the same waitress, and I really like her. She checks on us frequently enough, and we get our food/drinks pretty quickly. I haven't had any major issues with service here ever. I haven't been here much besides grad night, but a lot of their other daily specials aren't bad. I greatly prefer Blue Lep to Brown Jug, so if I'm hitting up South U, this is one of my favorite stops. read more

It's a place to go if Ashley's is full (and Ashley's is always full). Hence going there something like three times in two weeks earlier this year. There really isn't anything special to be said at all, which is simultaenously its one advantage and disadvantage. It's loud, crowded, and the lower floor is essentially a souped-up frat basement. I wouldn't want to go if I really wanted to talk and enjoy the company of people I like, but it's a good place to go with people you don't really know. read more

12 years after graduating from UM, I found myself in Michigan again for a wedding. I had some extra time, so I decided to revisit the Ann Arbor campus, and after a long walk, I stopped into the Blue Leprechaun for a beer. I ordered a seasonal Sam Adams lager, which turned out to be cherry-flavored, served with a cherry, and disgusting. The Blue Leprechaun is very much a college bar, with prices, specials, and selection geared towards cheap and rapid intoxication. As I sat there, I reflected that I was too young to go to bars for my first half of college, and too "mature" (and too poor/cheap) to go out drinking by the time I turned 21, so there was no nostalgia for me there. A cute, friendly alumna a few years younger than me came up to the bar, sat next to me, ordered twelve shots for her and her group of friends, and started chatting me up. We made a big game of guessing how old each other were, we teased each other, we compared the sizes of our hands. She came back and forth from her table to the bar to talk to me several times, and as she got sloppier, her speech became less coherent, and her flirtation grew more aggressive. I reflected that casual drunken liaisons weren't really a big nostalgic part of my college experience either. Eventually I ducked out when she wasn't looking. This was probably my worst experience at a restaurant in recent times. It was 2pm and people where screaming profanities and obscene comments. We ordered our food and it came out what seemed hours later. The food was lacking in so much flavor and bland. As a drunk person sure why not. Sober with a family avoid if at all possible. read more

Good sports bar. Food is solid, Service good despite it getting very crowded with students by the time we left. It was a Friday pm, so that's expected. I prefer the more adult places downtown but this was a more convenient walk for us and they did a nice a job. Fun spot. read more

OK-this is a great bar. All ages are comfortable and very friendly staff. The drinks are great, and are good for a lean budget. I highly recommend the Chocolate Cake Shooter! Dinner was fantastic. We had fish & chips, Irish Club sandwich. Very good. The DJ Wayne is there on Tuesday/Thursday-nice on the eyes and good at the boards. Definitely a spot to hit! Really busy after 9! read more

I had no clue they run a "happy hour" special every day except Sunday until 9pm with great drink specials and 1/2 off appetizers. Had I known I'd be there much more often! Unheard of to get discounted drinks on a Saturday night especially in Ann Arbor, but maybe I don't make my way over to South U enough. Had a night out last Saturday and with all the drinks, shots and appetizers we ordered I thought our bill was fairly cheap! Floors and menus are sticky, food is standard bar food, but our bartenders were really nice. We'll be back to take advantage of their happy hour pricing again. read more

I much prefer this fine establishment over Charley's. Tuesday night grad student night = best deal around town. Love the specials; not too many bars have happy hour specials M-F with $3 for pretty much all of the food deals. I have tried every one on the menu, and the mini reubens and chicken fingers are the best. Waitresses are always super cool. Go early around 7 or 8 if you want to have conversation before it gets loud after 9 or 10. read more

Hands down, the Blue Leprechaun is the best bar on South University. Ever since replacing the notoriously shady bar, Touchdowns, Blue Lep has been offering their patrons great drink deals and a great atmosphere to hang out. There are great deals every night of the week at the Blue Lep. As mentioned in other reviews, Tuesday night's Grad Night is awesome. If you're a grad student, enjoy 50% off almost everything (I think it also includes appetizers). If you like some dancing action, go to the Blue Lep on Thursday night when they clear out the front of the bar for a DJ and a small dance floor. Blue Lep is also a very large bar; there is almost never a line to get inside. If it gets too crowded on the main floor, you can go down stairs to get drinks from the bar there, play some pool, or just relax in the Red Lounge Room. They have some great TVs located all around the bar, usually broadcasting the games of the night. Blue Lep is a great place to hang out and it's my and my friends favorite bar. read more

I'm not sure what this place is like during the day, but every time I go here and give this place a shot at night it is a waste of my time. Crappy service first off, bartenders act like customers are inconvenient. Last night was the worst. The bartender called herself a professional to a group of us when we corrected her mistake with our order. She was dealing with another issue of losing someone's credit card. Then I requested 4 drinks, she got the cups and ice out. Took another girls order, proceeded to make her drinks with the cups she took out for mine. She didn't even acknowledge us after that. The place is dirty and unkept. Always stuff on the floor, drinks spilled and sticky counters. Don't waste your time. read more

Overall, I had a good experience. I like the Galway Reuben sandwich that I ordered. Nice balance of sauerkraut and corned beef. The rye bread was a little soggy, which made the reuben sandwich lose its crunchiness. However, I would still go back to order the reuben sandwich.
