We went here on Friday evening for happy hour. There was plenty of places to sit at tables and around the bar. Wait staff was friendly and efficient. Lots of background noise, not sure if there was music, but not so loud you couldn't have a good conversation. Drink special were great. Awesome prices for Black and Tans and Guinness. Yep. It's a-ok. It gets all busy with the college cool kids late at night, but I am getting old and get there earlier than them :) and let them party after I leave! i would not wait in line here... it is not that amazing. This is a thoroughly average college bar. The drink specials are pretty good during the week, but the food is just not that good. I've been twice for dinner-- burger and some chicken sandwich-- and both were just unimpressive! Fun scene if you can get in before it fills up, but go elsewhere if there's a line. [3.5 stars] Leaning heavily towards 4 stars. 3.75? As a grad student, some other grad students have warned me away from South U. But I have no such worries and Friday is meant for Happy Hour. Speaking of, Blue Lep had half off appetizers and $4 drinks (excluding martinis). Under $8 (plus tip), for a long island, chicken tenders and fries? I'll bite. The food is decent pub food and my long island (Cali Beach?) was good. Was there around 3 p.m. on a Friday and it was pretty empty. They were playing the soundtrack of the 90s though and I loved it. I'll definitely be back again. Maybe a bigger crowd will win me on the experience to being 4 stars. read more

This place is good for sports and drinks and that is it. There food is meh at best. If you just want to watch sports and drink some beer then its a good college town. There happy hour runs to 8pm on all days except game days which is a pretty good deal. read more

what to say about this fine establishment. As a 'new kid on the block' to ann arbor i figured this side of town must be where it's "happening." My first stop was of course the lep. Quite an interesting experience. First, the space is pretty cool, two floors, as many downtown buildings are. Bar-staff were awesome and quite talkative. The crowd seems something to the effect of mid 20's college kids, and quite a lot of bromancing going on. I went several times and on all occasions found it to be sort of a frat hang out with much of the atmosphere of a sports bar and conversation at about the same level. Not really my scene but a decent spot, and the drinks were good. read more

This place is loud and so crowded that you can't move. On their busier nights, the waitstaff tends to get an attitude and you may or may not end up with the drink you ordered. It tends to be filled with a bunch of sloppy 21 year olds' trying to hump each other. Needless to say, it's not really my scene, but if that's what you were looking for, then go for it! I have to say that Blue Lep has the best happy hour in town. Their happy hour starts when they open until 9pm everyday! (excluding Sunday and game days). My favorite appetizer that they have would have to be the spinach artichoke dip. The chips that come with the dip have a special seasoning on them that compliment the dip very well. The only critique that I have for this bar would be the lack of attentiveness that the wait staff exhibits at times. I remember going there one time with a friend during the day and there was absolutely no one there but me and my friend but the food somehow took 45 minutes to come out. Also our waitress didn't make it a priority to ask us if we even enjoyed our food which was a disappointment. However, overall I would recommend trying this bar out! read more

It is quite silly and doesn't inspire confidence but we took a chance on dinner anyway and were in *luck* The new decor is somewhere between pub and sports. . comfortable, not overly thematic or dark. The menu is in line with Old Town or Kacey's across town, but I would say a dollar or two cheaper across the board, and at least on this night the food was better. (though it was very slow so we had the chef's full attention I suppose) Fair selection of drafts served in well chilled glass. . a shooter list of crazy things that remind you that you are still on South University not west of Main, tons of party space, pool tables in the den below. . . . definitely beats Charley's if you find yourself on South U. The Blue Leprechaun used to be Touchdown's, a grimy college bar that had live music. Now they've changed it to the Blue Lep, and I really like it. It feels cozy in here, and it's got plaid wallpaper, which is something I can get behind. They have a sign above the bar that says "Erin Go Blue" which I like just because it's my name. They too have live music sometimes, and karaoke, and a cool lounge downstairs that has a different feel than the bar upstairs. They have a separate room with a fireplace in the front. All I've had to eat here was fish and chips, which was good but I'm not sure how I feel about their superthin fries. Their drinks are priced much like the other bars surrounding the place. The Blue Lep has more of a mixed crowd I think than the other bars on the street...you often see grad students and profs here, which I like better than wasted frat boys trying to mack on sorostitutes. Their hideous blue awning leaves something to be desired, but you get a leprechaun stamped on your hand when you go in, so it's ok. read more

I think Blue Lep is underrated in Michigan. I love Charleys but Blue Lep usually has a shorter line, if at all and cheap drinks. Their shots menu isn't as extensive as Charley's but they have different deals each night - drinks under $5, usually $2-3! You can find a seat here more easily too. I was one of a large group of forty in Blue Leprechaun's Red Den, on a day where the ground floor area had people, though not too crowded. Our server Josh managed to keep up with every person coming into the den, keeping good track of our drink and meal orders. I had not expected much for cheap pub grub, so when I had dug into the Duet of Chicken (something along those lines), I was surprised by the tenderness of the lemon-glazed chicken breasts, and the perfect fluff of the mashed potatoes. The fact that there was even room for a group of forty is a strong testament in favour of how Blue Leprechaun is managed. A classical bar, legitimizing itself as a decent restaurant. read more

Happy hour at this place is the best. $3 for pretty much anything on the drink menu is nice. Half off appetizers every day before 9pm is probably the best deal ever. Drinks are great. Food is just what you would expect from a college bar, but prices are still reasonable even if you order outside of happy hour. Overall, I enjoy visiting this place. read more

Popped in during my break at work and was pleasantly surprised by the AMAZING happy hour Blue Leprechaun has from open to 9pm!!! By far the best deal in town and had a cute little waitress, Kelsey, who was very helpful when selecting drinks from the menu. Food was delicious and for a great price. Hands down one of the worst bar experiences I've ever had! The bouncers were beyond rude to my girlfriends and I. (I was the sober one of the group) The blonde bartender in the corner of the bar rolled her eyes and announced out loud that someone didn't tip her so she would no longer be serving her! which is horrific, even though you guys were busy. She looked drunk. I have read great reviews on this bar and can't understand how this is happening! This place is horrible, RACIST, and cold !!!! There were 15+ of us the whole 40 minutes we only had ONE menu, we only took awhile to order because we only had ONE menu. We did order 4 drinks with that ONE menu and in that whole 40 minutes we waited to get ..... ONE drink! You'd think that they'd treat a table of 15+ paying customers a little better. Oh and our waiter GONZO actually had the audacity to ask us if we were only purchasing water. GONZO even asked one of us if he could hold someone's credit card as if we were leaving a tab open at a bar..... But we were at a table .... So after maybe 40 minutes of HORRIBLE service we decide to leave and head to another bar. A man from the first bar follows us and tells someone at the bar we are currently at that we didn't pay for our drinks!!!!! You can't serve us but you can follow us and spread lies !! I have had horrible service. I don't recommend this place to anyone in the Ann Arbor area. read more

I have gone to the Blue Leprechaun from time to time in the past. Their food is nothing to write home about, but their drink specials is what gave me the extra incentive to giving it one more try everytime. After this past Saturday, however, never again! A big reason on why I went there was to watch the Tigers playoff game. I was actually sitting at the bar and they didn't have the game on any of their three screens. They put the game on a TV away from the bar, but I was not going to tilt my head the entire game and get on my tippy toes to watch the game over a sea full of people trying to get drinks. When I ask if they can put the game on, the bartender said "All the TVs are taken." What games were on might you ask? Ohio St.-Northwestern, ND-Arizona St and Ole Miss-Auburn. Really, you aren't putting the home team playoff game on when it is the MLB playoffs? Really? My friend arrives and asks her to put the game on. Still the same answer. Another guy asks. Same answer. Another guy asks. Same answer. Another guy asks. Then she says "I'll look for the people who are watching the Auburn game and see if they are still watching it." Really? You were so adament about not putting on the Tigers game because people requested to watch the Auburn game and you "have to find them?" Well, as we find out, they "left" so after all the hassle she finally puts the game on. How much common sense do you need to lack to go out of your way to not put a postseason baseball game on that involves the home team. Food isn't anything to write home about, drink specials are good but they are not as good to make up for the lack of common sense on running a sports bar. If you want to go to a bar that jerks you around. Blue Leprechaun is it. Otherwise, stay away! read more

I like to go and have a cocktail here from time to time. The bar is fantastic. It looks like a brushed copper with a nice shiny finish. The latest great drink I have had at the Blue Lep was an ice cold shot of Zwack. The staff told me it was the oldest shot in the world, 1790 and was the national shot of Hungary. It was delicious for an herbal liqueur, smooth with a spicy citrus finish. Yum Yum. Just remember to have it ICE COLD. read more

Yes, the half-off appetizers are a good deal, but what awful bartenders last night. There were two female bartenders who were rude and disrespectful to customers. They were ok to us, but I certainly did not like how they treated a couple shy young adults at the bar. It was the epitome of bullying behavior as only mean girls can do. It just made for an awful atmosphere. I'd rather pay a few more dollars and enjoy the place; not here! No wonder it wasn't crowded. read more
