We were staying at the hotel because of a birthday celebration. The restaurant is very roomy and nicely decorated. We decided to dine in after checking in. We ordered the smoked chicken wings, they were reasonably priced for 16 wings, $21. Some were cooked too long but they were okay. We didn't like the Mac and cheese or collard greens. I don't know if these are new items or not. The breakfast items were a hit, the next two mornings we had pancakes, French toast and bacon. Decided to check this place out while on a work trip and the food was better than I expected. Not the best barbecue I have had, but certainly not the worst. I had the two meat combo - brisket and memphis dry rub ribs with potato salad and coleslaw as well as a pulled pork sandwich. For the amount of food, the price was very good. Each time I have been to this restaurant, the service has been wonderful. This time was no exception. It's a warm welcome and efficient seating. You are given enough time with the menu as well. The environment is classy and also a place that is relaxed at the same time. I ordered the salmon salad. In all fairness I removed the cheese and the nuts from the salad. In my opinion it still should have been flavorful. It was a maple glazed salmon salad with a raspberry vinaigrette. Even with the glaze it was bland. Walking into the restaurant though the hotel has a warm, modern yet historic ambience. However, you get to the restaurant and it's family dining ambience. We were in the corner booth complete with cobwebs and a fly buzzing about with the window sill lined with bug carcasses. We came at an odd hour between lunch and dinner. The dinner menu has slightly more options, although the menu is very limited. We ordered the burnt ends and were told it would take half an hour, then she came back and told us it would be an hour. They also did not have mashed potatoes and said those would be ready closer to 5 also- although the dinner menu starts at 4. Half the dinner entrees come with mashed potatoes. This was clearly frustrating trying to order. We had to wait for the waitress to constantly go back to the kitchen to see how long dishes would take or of items were available, and she would yell out comments well they look pretty upset or I think they are mad. We are the only table, and this was rather annoying. Mac and cheese was good and the pasta was decent but def not worth the hassle. Esp at this price point with only one table seated in the restaurant. We will def go elsewhere during the remainder of our stay, and I would not recommend this place to anyone. I'd give this place 2 stars just bc of the terrible customer service but food isn't as terrible as the service. What a disappoint for such a nice hotel. read more

I came here tonight for the first time with some friends for Ann Arbor Restaurant Week. One of my friends is both gluten-free and vegetarian, and rel-ish had one of the only menus that would accommodate that. I started off with the sourdough bites, which were hot and fresh, and served with a craft beer dipping sauce ... so good! For my entree, I had the BBQ pork shank, which came with garlic mashed potatoes and corn on the cob, and was HUGE - I only ate about 1/4 of it. The potatoes were just okay but the corn on the cob was delicious too, it tasted like it had butter and pepper on it. For dessert, I had the pineapple upside down cake, which was also delicious. My friends had the strawberry shortcake, and ice cream - one of the dessert choices was an ice cream (cookie) sandwich, but because my friend is GF, they accommodated her and just gave her ice cream, which was pretty nice of them. Waitservice was good too and the atmosphere is nice and modern. I actually stayed at the Kensington a few weeks ago during the Cinetopia Film Festival (no Yelp review, though, since that stay was comped since I did a blog post about them) and really enjoyed staying there; however, I had not yet tried their restaurant, though, so I'm glad we chose rel-ish for A2RW. Definitely will be back here at some point, although sadly, most of the A2RW menu items are not on their regular menu. I believe the sourdough bites are, though. read more

I got takeout- so no information about dining experience. The steak was excellent. At first I thought $27 was a bit steep, but my NY strip steak was perfectly cooked and large. The garlic herb butter that came with it was perfect and such an amazing pairing. I thought the fingerling potatoes were decent, but I would have enjoyed a little more of that delicious butter with them. I got 2 1/2 asparagus, which I thought was a little small of a portion- I would have enjoyed 5 instead, and maybe with a Smokey grilled or lemon flavor (love hollandaise on my asparagus!) profile to mix it up a bit. She patiently explained to me how they handmade potato chips out of relish using giant presses in the shed out back. Then she told me the truth... "Relish Chips" are Relish's signature potato chips. I was actually asked to come here to help promote the place, and while the food was good, there isn't anything earth shattering about the place that would take me back :( I hate to say that! Relish is relatively new (formerly Graham's Restaurant) in the Kensington Hotel near the Briarwood Mall. The space is pretty, well lit, rustic tables, and while the okay was great, we had a few issues. First off, we went for brunch on a Saturday. The web site stated that breakfast/brunch is offered Saturdays from 6am-12pm and then lunch starts 11pm-5pm. We came around 11am with the hopes to try some items off both the breakfast and lunch menu. However, our server said "You can order from the lunch menu, but we aren't serving that yet, so it'll probably take long to prepare. Lunch doesn't start until around 2pm" .... if you aren't serving lunch, or the time is incorrect, please change that on your site! Second, the service. Our server was nice...when we saw her. I am not joking when I say we were literally the only people in the entire place. No one else was there and we hardly saw the serving staff. They were prioritizing room service orders, which I can understand, but if you have patron inside your restaurant or dining room, I would think you should also pay them a little attention. For food, I ordered their Michigan Farm Grains which was a bowl of cooked quinoa, layered with flaky coconut, roasted sweet potatoes, dried cherries, granola, sliced apples and walnuts. It's served with a side of warmed almond milk. So it wasn't bad. However, the milk was cold, the potatoes were cold and the quinoa wasn't fully cooked. The prices seemed a little high for what you get. I realize this is to be expected in a hotel (kind of like airport food) but that alone would probably not bring me back especially since there are other places in Ann Arbor I could eat a decent breakfast or brunch. They also seem to dote on their chef being super creative, however, there was maybe one vegetarian option for the dinner menu, and only a few on the lunch menu. A friend of mine actually went for dinner and ended up ordering a bunch of side vegetables for dinner. To me, that's unacceptable. You know a vegetarian is coming, to promote your restaurant, and she's having to rate your roasted asparagus, green beans and potatoes. So overall, not a great experience, not overly great food, and unfortunately, I won't be back. It seems like they need to work through some issues. read more

Didn't notify me their website was wrong when it allowed me to book a reservation for thanksgiving 3 weeks early. They blamed open table, but google said they were open when several other restaurants said they weren't and open table also said they were open when several others said they were closed. They could have fixed all of those issues like everyone else did but instead of accepting responsibility they said it was out of their control. As if their ignorance to prevent this from happening wasn't bad enough, they ignored notifying me of the situation as if they had no clue. If they in fact did not, who's fault is that? Came here for restaurant week, located inside the Kensington the restaurant is quite cozy. The staff was really attentive from hostess to server. We decided to try a little of everything that was offered on the restaurant week menu. To start we had the duck fat fries, butternut squash soup and the citrus salad. The duck fat fries were amazing and decadent, I love when fries or chicken is fried in duck fat. I also really enjoyed the butternut squash soup it had a bit of curry and spice, that, I really enjoyed. My wife enjoyed the citrus salad. For entree we had beef medallions with really good garlic mash potatoes. Everything tasted delicious and fresh, my wife had the pecan walleye and was very satisfied. For dessert they absolutely knocked it out of the park. The grown up s'mores with amaretto was delicious. The apple a la mode was very good as well. Hidden deep inside Ann Arbor's Kensington Hotel, Relish is a little known breakfast spot catering mostly to hotel guests from out of town. Walking through the lobby halls for the first time, in route to the restaurant, I loved the framed photos of A-squared around the turn of the last century. My wife and I stopped in for their Sunday Brunch and were pleasantly surprised with the bright, sun-lit dining space with soaring ceilings and a distinctly modern feel. My wife enjoyed a made-to-order Omelette while I did a custom scramble and a sampling of other typical breakfast eats. Relish offers a somewhat scaled-back Brunch compared to Ann Arbor's many other options but it price is also appropriately adjusted. For those days when you just want B'fast...Relish will come through as a nice alternative to the better known haunts. read more

This place was a unknown gem I discovered because of Ann Arbor restaurant week. I was looking for an interesting lunch spot as I try to visit places I've never tried before and came across Rel-ish. I had never heard of them before and their menu had a good variety of things that sounded appetizing to me. I had to look up their location to find out exactly where to go and I found out they are part of the Kensington hotel near Briarwood mall. I arrived at 11 a.m., which is when they begin serving lunch. We were seated right away. We were actually the first people in the restaurant at that point. Our waitress was friendly and pleasant and answered all my questions. I noticed some interesting sauces (blueberry-jalapeno jam and red pepper jelly) on other options on the restaurant week menu and asked could I sample those since I'm a sauce addict. :-) She said it'd be no problem so I was really a happy camper. I decided to go with the salmon BLT (grilled salmon, applewood bacon, lettuce, tomato, and pesto aioli on grilled ciabatta) and my eating companion went with the red pepper bird (grilled chicken breast, applewood bacon, melted brie, grilled onions, red pepper jelly, and baby spinach on ciabatta). Both sandwiches came with tasty potato wedges. The deal also included a dessert to share and we went with the lemon chiffon cake. The portions were large and the food tasty and fresh. And the sauces were full of flavor! The restaurant decor is a mix of quaint and modern and everything was very clean. I found out that they have recently renovated and opened the first week of January. It was called Graham's before. I saw some other items come out for other patrons like chicken and waffles and omelets. Everything looked fresh and delicious! I'm glad I found this place and I will more than likely be back to try other options. Came here with family the other day because it was convenient and none of us had been before. Can't imagine we'll be coming back anytime soon. The service was good. Our waitress was very friendly. That said, they didn't have drink menus on the table and she didn't know off-hand which beers they had on tap. The food was pretty good. My boyfriend and I went in on Valentine's Day looking for a nice dinner. You could tell it was busier before but was dying down when we arrived. Our server was not very friendly and a little frantic. She did not take the time to explain the courses of the Valentine's Day special. We order the duck fat fries as an appetizer and they never came. My boyfriends meal came with soup and dessert, but our server forgot and we had to ask. Our meals took incredibly long and when they arrived mine was the wrong steak. I could not even inform anyone because no one checked on us after we got our meals. However terrible the service was, the food was pretty tasty. When we were ready to leave I considered saying something to the "supervisor" that we heard speaking to another table, but he seemed very annoyed and incompetent. Overall, I would not recommend this place and I will probably not be back. This is my first time here and I was extremely disappointed with the entire experience. My boyfriend and I went to celebrate Valentine's Day and it fell short of our expectations. When we first arrived it took more than 5 minutes to even be greeted by anyone and then another 2-3 minutes to be seated in a nearly empty restaurant. This should have clued me in to the experience I was going to have. When we got sat our server came over about 3-4 minutes later and greeted us, but instantly asked if we were ready to order. She didn't suggest anything on the menu food or drink wise. She seemed like she was in a rush to get the whole process over with. We both ordered off the Valentine's Day menu in which they were out of both the lobster bisque and the carrot cake that we wanted to order. The entrees were great in flavor and was the only saving grace about the whole meal. I ordered "sangria" which was just a watered down red wine on ice. It was flavorless and disappointing and I didn't take more than a single drink. The decor is very confusing and all over the place. The designer must have changed halfway or ran out of money and threw random stuff together. When we walked in there were more tables dirty in the restaurant than there was people. The manager on duty was also talking about issues with tables on the floor in the vicinity of my boyfriend and I. I have worked in the industry over 8 years and manage a restaurant and this was a huge lack in decorum from the manager. We will definitely not be returning ever. Really seems like they weren't really in the restaurant business. The place was super loud even while less then half the tables were being used. our waiter had few tables and served them all super slow. I was in a bit of a jam, having an unexpectedly good response to a reunion invitation at the last minute, on a football Saturday. I was able to book a room accommodating 16 people at no charge at Rel-ish, without having to consult an event manager or communicate via email. One call, easy peasy. The beef is properly seared before stewing, and it was perfectly tender and silken. The house burger is a solid composition. Fresh greens, fun jam, good sear on the meat, and the bun worked well. My friends and I came here for Ann Arbor Restaurant Week, and we were not dissapointed. To start we got Duck Fat fries for the table to share. These are not to be missed!!! I usually hate a wedge fry but these were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. For appetizers, a friend and I got the Sausage and Goat Cheese Flatbread, my husband got the Sourdough bites, and a friend got the Blue Crab Salad. Our flat bread was amazing, grilled to perfection, fluffy, and so satisfying! The sourdough bites were very good according to my husband, and the beer cheese sauce was delicious when I dipped into it. The Crab Salad was refreshing, light, and had the right amount of curried mayo in it. Entrees were Beef tenderloin medallions with a green peppercorn sauce, roasted potatoes, and brussel sprouts. I got my steak done medium rare, and my friend got his medium. Each steak was done to perfection. My husband and friend got the Salmon with risotto, and creamed spinach. This was beyond delicious as well. To end the meal we had the bumpy cake, salted caramel ice cream sandwich, and the bread pudding. Everything was just so good!! The service was great! Rel-ish is a hidden gem! I discovered it during restaurant week and I am so glad that I did! We went for dinner on Friday night. We went early, around 5 so we were seated right away. I was impressed with the professionalism of the staff--they offered to take my coat, etc which gave it more of an upper scale feel but I still felt comfortable in my jeans. The deal for restaurant week was an appetizer to share, entree and dessert to share for 2/$28. We chose the sourdough bites which were HEAVENLY and came with a yummy beer cheese sauce. I had the sweet potato and roasted veggies for my entree which was cooked perfectly. And for dessert we shared the caramel drizzled ice cream puff which was divine. I stayed at this hotel and when I arrived I was starving so I headed down to the restaurant. I got a burger which was surprisingly good for hotel food but when I got my bill and saw that my kid's 2 scoops of ice-cream was $10 I about spit my wine out. How can they possible justify that? The reviews were good, so we decided to give it a try for a date night. The menu was interesting - lots of local, interesting sounding apps and dinners on the list. The decor was modern, maybe a bit plain and uninspired. I picked the Shrimp Arrabiata and my wife got the fired perch. My shrimp was pretty tasty - nicely cooked large shrimp in a flavorful sauce. My wife's perch dinner was plentiful and fried nicely. Service was good - a few minor missteps (taking away an appetizer plate before we were done) and not sure what table to take us to when we were seated. It was an above average restaurant compared to the ones connected to hotels. When compared to other Ann Arbor places, it does pretty well. Perhaps a notch below Main Street, but still pretty good. read more
