Update: came again, artichoke dip is amazing, flatbreads are tasty, the entrees are good, but the service is really really good. The servers are just as attentive and nice as last time. 10/10 service!

The food and service was fantastic ! Good selection of craft beer as well! Had the "standard" pizza, Native Texan beer and the flatbread appetizer with three dipping condiments was delicious .

After coming to this restaurant before I'm disappointed with the food. We ordered the chicken tortilla soup and Al pastor pizza. The tortilla soup tasted nothing like a tortilla soup, more like a tomato beef broth with chicken oh and no tortillas. Different would be ok if the soup actually tasted good. The pizza was actually sent to the table without cheese? Was told this pizza didn't have cheese so I had to send it back to have some mozzarella melted on top. Unfortunately we won't be back, nothing special here.

You had me at thin crust and "mini pizza" (like the size of a dessert plate). So salad and mini-pizza was the perfect lunch portion for me. I ordered the San Franciscan as I always love a good sausage, roasted garlic and fresh basil on my pizza and this particular one had it all... Menu is well varied with pizzas, calzones, flatbreads and dips. Mention that it's your first time, and you may get a free dessert....I did ! Btw, Sally, my waitstaff was one of the best...she is a role model for customer service!

Staff didn't even acknowledge me or take my order in the 20 minutes I was there waiting at the bar. The place wasn't busy, there were maybe 3 other pairs of people at the bar and 2 tables taken up. It was 6 PM on a Thursday so the place was close to empty. The bartender was too busy talking to the barback and didn't even take my order. In that time, he checked on other customers at the bar then returned to his conversation with his coworker. It's never good for a bartender to do the rounds and ignore a client that hasn't yet been served ESPECIALLY on a slow night. This type of treatment can make a client feel profiled or discriminated against. Nothing else to say about this, never going back and I'll gladly recommend other places to people looking for a GOOD bar in McAllen.

The ambiance is that if a five star establishment one goes to when celebrating a special occasion. It's exclusively an indoor dining establishment. That said, expect to pay a pretty penny for your meal and drinks. As for the food, it's not worth the price you pay, in both portion size AND taste. They have gone above and beyond to make this more of your typical pretentious and Instagram'able establishment. That said, I had a fantastic time sitting at the bar and enjoying nice company. During our first brunch visit, the waitstaff's enthusiastic recommendations felt a bit overwhelming--almost to the point of pressure--but we chalked it up to eagerness to help new guests get acquainted with the menu. The space has a club-like vibe, likely aiming for something virtual and modern, but compared to places we've experienced globally, it didn't quite hit the mark. We started with a dish we believed was our appetizer, but it turned out to be something else entirely--our actual order followed and ended up being almost a duplicate but with much less flavor. That made the meal feel heavier than expected. My husband found his plate fairly average, but we understand that new places often need time to refine their offerings. When the bill came, we noticed we were charged for the original appetizer. No fuss--we paid for what we ate and had the rest boxed up. Unfortunately, the green chilaquiles didn't reheat well and lacked flavor the second time around, as well. I dislike throwing food away, but it wasn't worth a sour stomach and ruining the rest of the day. So, I opted to throw it out. Because the restaurant came recommended a couple of weeks later by a friend, we gave it another try. Again, the staff greeted us warmly, though they forgot to bring out the complimentary bread. My husband politely reminded the manager, who graciously handled it himself. This time we brought my daughter. She ordered the stuffed chilaquiles, we had been served previously as an appetizer. The plate this time was overly drenched in a bland sauce. I requested salt to balance it out, and my daughter eventually gave up, scraping off most of the excess and leaving the rest. She was disappointed and left with an upset stomach. My husband mistakenly ordered the regular chilaquiles--made with an enchilada-style sauce instead of a fresh salsa--which was unfortunately a miss again. I had tried to warn him, but the loud club-style music made conversation difficult. I had ordered the same dish on my first visit and left most of it untouched for the same reason: the overwhelming amount of sauce that turned everything mushy. In the end, we paid for a meal that none of us finished -- not once but twice. While we appreciate the staff's energy and hospitality, the food's execution just didn't meet our expectations. Sadly, we don't anticipate returning.

I was going to go with 4 stars, but then thought about it ... they did everything right. I happened to be in this general area, while visiting the famous main branch of the McAllen Public Library, which holds the record for being the largest library on one level in either the U.S., North America, or the world. Dinnertime was approaching and a barbecue place sounded just like what I needed. Cowboy Chicken is in a strip mall close enough to the library. Parking is easy and, once inside, you go through a short line to order what you want to eat, with some people eating in and others taking out. I do like to eat this regional barbeque food on occasion, and it's something I do at least once every time I'm in the Houston metro area. I always go for the 2 item combination platter. However, in the Houston area, I don't seem to land on places that offer both brisket and boneless chicken. So, in Houston, I get brisket and turkey ... and I'm still a happy camper. At this Cowboy Chicken, I asked if I could get chicken as one of the 2 meats and if it could be (a) boneless piece(s). The young lady helping me said that I could and was very helpful. I took my tray to the simple but airy eating area and started to dig in. Everything, including the sides, was delicious. The chicken and the brisket were very much to my liking. I'm not being a big baby by always asking for boneless stuff, but who wants to mess with bones and scales when eating outside of their home or at a backyard event? I wanted to add that the portion size was satisfying and that the pricing was appropriate. This "main" Cowboy Chicken has a lot of good things going for it - the food, the service, the portions, the value, and, above all, what I perceived to be a strong focus on the customer. So there you have it. If visiting the impressive main branch of the McAllen Public Library and get hungry, you might stop by Cowboy Chicken for a meal. How does that sound for a field trip?

Let's face it, you can get pizza a million different ways in a million different places. So why here? What makes this place special in my mind is not just that the pizza is delicious but that it is a truly family run business that treats you like family when you're there. Brothers Alfredo and Victor were who I met. Also involved are a sister, a brother in law, mom behind the register, and Alfredo Sr. serving fresh popped popcorn. And what they created together was a fun, electric vibe that felt like a community. And they invited in seven food trucks that complement the park with a variety of other food types so there's something for everyone.
