I have lived in Dothan now for 4 yrs and this restaurant by far has the best breakfast. Everything was hot and fresh. Staff was friendly and quick with preparing my order. The restaurant was completely full with customers and everyone had nothing but good things to say about the atmosphere, food and service. I'm totally sold on this restaurant.

I typically search Yelp for a local place for breakfast when traveling and today, Ray's place looked like the best bet. I arrived to and found it clean, welcoming and filled with locals. Coffee was immediately offered (and needed!). Good prices and great food. Cooked exactly as I ordered! I count this as a win!!!

Ray's has been around in Dothan forever! How have I missed this place? I always thought it was just a breakfast place but it is more of a meat and three. There are some fascinating items of the decor to Ray's. First of all, there is a table in the middle of the small dining room called the "Table of Knowledge" and even has a sign for it. Yeah that's great and all but what excites me more is Paul Bear Bryant ate here. In fact, the table he sat at, has not been changed in the restaurant. Also, beside his table is his photo and signature in a frame. There are also other pictures of Alabama and that other team football stuff everywhere. Besides the usual sandwich menu Ray's has everyday, they have 5 meats to choose from with several sides. I asked my waitress what was popular and she said the beef tips are on Tuesdays. Since I was there on a Tuesday, I went with her recommendation. I would say though, it was more disappointing than good. The beef tips were in a gravy on mashed potatoes and while not bad, it really wasn't packing with flavor. For my sides, I picked field peas (very good), slaw (more creamy than crunchy, a solid slaw), corn muffin (sweet and possibly the best thing on my plate) and banana pudding (which has to be near impossible to get wrong). My sweet tea was refreshingly sweet. Ray's is a solid breakfast and meat and 3 spot for breakfast and lunch in Dothan. I do wish my meat was more flavorful but it wasn't bad. The table of knowledge and Paul Bear Bryant table adds to the mystique of Ray's. I will eat here again.

    This was "made fresh".

We were in town for a family function and had another great experience at the toasted yolk café…read more When we pulled up, the parking lot was incredibly busy so we thought we were gonna have to wait for a bit as it turned out we didn't! We were seated right away, but almost every table in the place was packed. Our server greeted us pretty quickly and got our beverage order started. My husband stuck with coffee and I got one of the energizer beverages the morning sunrise that includes elderflower tonic, orange juice, and period strawberry. It was delicious. I chose to order the breakfast burrito with fruit as my side. The fruit was incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious. There were a lot of grapes and it would've been nice to have some more of the melon but overall it was delicious. Breakfast burrito was nice and tasty. I would've liked a little bit more meat in it but again it was still delicious. My husband crafted his own breakfast and got bacon with some eggs and the French toast. He said everything was delicious.

ANYONE giving above a 1-Star rating is either related to the owners or flat out lying…read more I have NEVER put anything more disgusting in my mouth than the "food" this nasty place served my wife and I. I had scrambled eggs. How can you POSSIBLY screw up plain old scrambled eggs? Well, TTY found a way. First, definitely, without a doubt, they were powdered eggs. 100%. You all know how powdered eggs look. Grainy, all yellow without a hint of any white. Then they mixed something into those powdered eggs that would gag a maggot. I thought maybe I was having a stroke and losing my flavor buds so the wife tried them and actually spit them out onto a napkin. Eggstraordinarily DISGUSTING! Biscuit. Just a friggin' biscuit. How can someone in the South F up a friggin biscuit?! Flour, baking powder, salt, butter/lard, buttermilk, a monkey with a traumatic brain injury could accidently create a better biscuit than this joke of a place. THE best part of the biscuit was the single-serve size of Smucker's jelly packet I tried to kill the fart flavor of this "biscuit" with. I wish my Grandmother was alive so she could go this place and slap the "cook" for desecration of a Southern Biscuit. That pile of "bottom of a septic tank" breakfast cost me $10.69. The wife's breakfast - The Classic Arnold! Known to everyone else as Eggs Benedict. At least SHE got a real egg! Which TTY proceeded to turn into a toxic waste site by adding their bearnaise sauce. It ain't bearnaise sauce it is 100% plain old every day CHEESE sauce and they searched the entire cosmos for the most disgusting flavored cheese they could possibly find. Anyone remember the book Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy? Well, TTY found the "green lump of putty (he) found in his armpit one day". And they put it on top of my wife's egg! Just as I was willing to forgive TTY for the biscuit insult they followed it up with insulting grits. GARBAGE! Look, if you can't cook biscuits and grits then stop calling yourself a breakfast place ESPECIALLY in the South. The wife's portion of the bill was $16.79. Neither of us ate all of our breakfast and we both left well over 80% of it on the plate. That should have been a clue to someone..... Now for the good stuff about The Toasted Yolk Dothan - There ya go. If you voluntarily go to this place instead of being force-fed this garbage by rampaging teenagers with sticks and rocks then that's YOUR fault. And you too can spend over $30 to not eat anything and go down the road to the nearest dumpster surrounded by port-a-toddies and upgrade to better food and drink. You've been warned.

You just have to know the procedure, but it wasn't only me, a Northerner whose brain hadn't yet fully recalibrated for the local accent. Locals were confused too. Procedure is this: tell them your drink preference (I had water), pick up a tray, put it on the counter, pick out a main, three sides, a dessert, slide it down to the register, pay, and take it to your table. At that point do you begin eating? No! Remove your items from the tray and they come by and pick it up. Now begin! You may be thinking "Soup Nazi" from Seinfeld but I assure you it didn't feel that way. Just the quirky way they run the place. The waitress did warm up after I was there a while, came over to ask where I was from, etc. And to try to convince me to come back for breakfast! This is cafeteria style, with everything prepared ahead of time and kept warm on steam trays. So how do they keep that fried chicken so crunchy and delicious? Perhaps the best I've ever had, the batter so crunchy you could probably hear me eating from another room, assertively peppery, the large leg and thigh pieces perfectly cooked and juicy. (White meat also available.) My sides were lima beans, turnip greens, and yams. The highlight was the yams: super sweet but not in a bad way, balanced by good seasonings. The beans were fine, a bit salty. The only disappointment were the turnip greens, too finely chopped and overcooked. The portion sizes were decent. Also included is corn bread. Two choices: baked or fried. Never heard of fried so I tried that. Interesting but a little chewy and not so much corn flavor; next time I'd get the baked. Finishing this rather large lunch was a challenge for me but I managed, while taking in the local ambience. I saved the dessert for later. Dessert? Yes. I was also asked on ordering what I wanted for dessert. The only one that appealed was the red velvet cake (the others were a cobbler and bread pudding) so I got that. I assumed it was included but when I paid I saw it was not. $4; no big deal. It didn't look that good, a thin 1 inch slice tightly shrink wrapped on a paper plate. Looks were deceiving. The first time I actually liked red velvet cake, a light crumbly texture and cream cheese frosting that tasted of more than sugar. With the amount of frosting this tiny slice was quite filling and I'm glad it wasn't larger. All this for a little over $21. I think this was including tip but I'm not positive. Either way, great deal!
