There is truly no bad class. Well worth the cost. Highly recommend. Side note - I was able to do this throughout my pregnancy and feel it optimized my health during that challenging time. It minimized my weight gain and helped control my blood pressure. It made delivery much easier and healing very quick. The bar may be the best deal in town (members only), the curling is great, the hospitality warm, and the vibe both traditional (it's a 500 year old sport, after all) and forward looking (with an active youth program, which both my kids participate in now). Look for learn to curl events on the website or on the outside sign, and open houses (usually in October and in Olympic years around the Olympics), or just drop in during evenings during the curling season (October to March) and ask for some information and stop to watch a while. Four sheets of ice, there are leagues almost every night and some afternoons, open to curlers of all sorts of experience levels.

It was initially for something to occupy my time one night a week to do something locally. For those who follow my Yelp reviews, you can tell that I spend a chunk of my time out of town (by choice), but I wanted an outlet within my home area to have fun, meet new people, etc. Kickball, with its 8 week regular season plus playoffs, seemed to be a good fit for me, and some friends of mine that live in North Carolina play in an adult kickball league down there and subliminally encouraged me to get into the sport. Some people sign up for the kickball league individually as a free agent to be placed on a team or as part of a small group and get placed on a team that needs the players. Other people will sign up as part of a full team. In any respect, if you want to play kickball, there will be a place for you. Some people who play kickball are natural athletes, but others (such as myself) are able to play even with not much natural athletic ability and still enjoy themselves. By design, adult kickball is a social sport, and after the games (which usually take about an hour from start to finish), teams are able to go to the specially designated kickball bar to socialize with players from their team as well as players from other teams. Kickball players have been known to play a relaxing game of flip cup while at the bar as well. The long or short of the matter is, if you're looking for a fun way to occupy some of your time, besides reading some awesome Yelp reviews, I think that WAKA Kickball is where its at.

Upon walking in there is a nice sports gear store, then an open area with lots of comfy couches and what seems to be a bar to order food (perhaps while you are waiting for your soccer games to start, or to relax afterwards). Our son is taking a toddler soccer class and I mean that in the most general sense of the word. Basically, the kids (ages 2-4 it seems) run around, go through obstacle courses, kick balls here and there, play with hula hoops, sing songs, and learn social skills. It is a fun experience, though certainly it can occur other places besides here. The instructor really impressed me by memorizing the kids' names without prompting by the second class. How he did it, I don't know. I don't like soccer so I really can't judge their soccer facilities. But as kid's events go, this seemed to be exactly what was advertised and our son had fun running around and playing with the other kids.

They have lots of cardio equipment and weight lifting machines and weights on 2 separate floors. They also have a small turf with sleds and a rope. Lots of TRX as well. There are multiple rooms for workout classes and boxing although I haven't taken those so I can't speak too much on it. They have some fun activities going on sometimes, like a live dj on some occasions. Some of the machines can be pretty run down and the plates are kind of worn but I've seen them be pretty diligent about repairs and replacements even if it takes a while. I don't take part in the personal training but it does seem more like a social hour than any formal training but I'm also not the client so I'm sure that's just personal preference! Overall not a bad spot for a work out if it's a close gym! They do also have a $15 day pass.

This place is so cool!!…read more Of course the Olympic fever has hit everyone hard and I don't know about you....but I find curling fascinating. Some people are really turned off by it and think it's odd...but the more I've watched over the years, the more intrigued I have become. The Albany Curling Club has an open house twice per year...and I went this weekend. I have been humbled and slightly shamed during my experience...which, of course, makes me want to go back for more. Curling is a lot harder than it looks. It's a game of skill and strategy. But yes....there is a bar. And it looked pretty well stocked, too. So if you want to try out this unique and challenging sport, give this place a visit and talk to any one of the friendly, knowledgeable folks that take curling very seriously. Oh...the best shirt that I saw? "Curling is the bacon of sports".
