Came here with my wife for our anniversary and while the food was great, sitting outside was not it. They sun was beaming on the back patio and there is barely any shade or fans or anything to provide relief. The food was pretty good but took a long time to come out. I got the oysters, crème brulee and chocolate cake with ice cream. All in all I'd recommend it if you're not in a hurry. Definitely eat inside on hot days!

It took a while to get seated, but the staff were nice. Our waiter was attentive and it is not very loud inside, at least when we were there on a Thursday. The food was very good, by the view is the main reason to come here! Little slice of heaven in RVA.

Beautiful experience at The Boathouse at Sunday Park! We had such a wonderful time dining here. Our server, Jamie Cole, was warm, attentive, and made us feel perfectly taken care of. We started with the focaccia bread, which was soft, flavorful, and the perfect beginning to our meal. I had the clam chowder, which was rich and comforting, while my friend enjoyed a fresh Caesar salad. For entrées, I ordered the rockfish, and it was absolutely amazing -- perfectly cooked, served over a risotto cake with charred tomatoes and a delicious green sauce (I don't know the name, but it tied everything together beautifully). My friend had the seafood combination -- crab cake, scallops, shrimp, broccolini, and Yukon gold mashed potatoes -- and everything was cooked to perfection. To top it off, the sunset view over the water was breathtaking. Between the setting, the service, and the food, the whole experience felt peaceful and special. We'll definitely be back!

Chris gave us amazing service for brunch! We love The Boathouse and the variety for brunch. Many classic favorites and new innovative items as well like the blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes. Great flavors, food temperature, and overall experience. Is a bit expensive for value at times, but they have a great rewards system for points collection/redemption that helps!

Nice setting though they've done everything possible to block water views from the dining rooms. We had good service (Huey) though one of us had a glass of water spilt in their lap...certainly an accident but totally unexpected at what seemed to be a very nice restaurant. The food was abundant and reasonably tasty -- hush puppy appetizer, shrimp tacos with pineapple salsa, clam chowder and focaccia bread; Classic Zookie for dessert (very good!). We'd try it again.

Shout out to our amazing waitress Brenda! So my buds and are were in town for the Carmax Christmas run. We met here ....... First time for all of us. Beautiful area. Nestled in the middle of a private community with a lake view. The restaurant is a mix of rustic and elegance. It appeared they had upstairs.... Banquet room as well. The Boathouse at Sunday Park was the perfect place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The idyllic venue nestled in the woods overlooks a scenic lake perfectly positioned to take in the sunset. Outdoor seating is a great option, but we chose indoor seating on this beautiful 95+ June day. We were promptly seated at a cozy booth inside. The server warmly congratulated us on our anniversary and let us know that the couple across from us were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. We shared greetings and congratulations with the young couple. Our first choice of wine was not available and our server gave his recommendation for a Boathouse signature red Zinfandel. Although technically reds don't pair with our choices of apps or entrees we most often choose a bold red. The zin went well with our beautifully presented Rockefeller Roasted Oysters and entrees. The oysters were large and succulent. We both ordered from the Chef's Summer Feature menu. My wife chose the broiled seafood combination. Each seafood feature was perfectly seasoned, tender and cooked perfectly. She enjoyed what she couldn't finish the following day. I chose the Double Cut Bourbon Brined Tomahawk Pork Chop. A good thick cut is the only way to enjoy a great pork chop. Exquisitely seasoned, tender and cooked just enough, served with a peach chutney and matchstick fries, one couldn't ask for a better entree. Our server was a memorable part of our experience. His friendly personality and humor was an added bonus to our celebration. The Boathouse at Sunday Park earns my highest recommendation for service, atmosphere, and cuisine.

Friday night happy hour was a success! We arrived right after 5 and sat at one of the high top tables in the bar area. We came at the perfect time because people start filing in around 5:20-5:30 and at one point the area was filled. I've been to another BH location but this was my first happy hour and I enjoyed it. Our food came out so quick and both of my cocktails were great. The orange crush was very refreshing. Get the crab dip! I normally hate when I get bread with dips but theirs was a perfect combo. The fried calamari was cooked well but the white sauce made it a bit salty. We almost didn't order oysters until we saw someone else's order...10/10. The bacon was bacon and not bits. There was a 20% service charge on the bill that wasn't a tip. When I asked one of the servers about it they informed me it went to their hourly rate but not them individually. The service was also great we were helped by at least 3 different servers/busers so I'll definitely dine here again. read more

Ordered a Caesar salad with salmon. It was awful. I could have gotten a better salad at Wendy's or Chick-fil-a for 1/3 the cost. The Irish coffee I ordered was pretty good. The salad lacked dressing. The salmon was dry and a very small portion. Nowhere near worth the money. This follows a recent poor meal at the Rockets landing location in Richmond. at Sunday Park location: Fancy dining by the lake, but not worth it in my opinion. We had to wait a long time for the food and the portions were small, the price tags large. My friends both got crab cakes and I got scallops (very few of them) Our waiter wasn't very attentive and it was fortunate that we were there for the photography studio right across the deck from the restaurant, or we would have been late. I'm sure it's nicer when the weather is warm and people can eat out on the deck. The interior is very pretty with tons of woodwork and boat stuff. read more

This review is an improvement over the last review I did for the Boathouse. Food was excellent, service was very good, and you just can't beat the view. Although a 20 percent tip was included in the bill, the server lost out since I usually tip much more than that. I understand that next month, the Boathouse will go back to the traditional method of tipping. This place is comparable to Hard Shell or Red Lobster. For the same price though, I could go to 21 Spoons a couple miles down Charter Colony and get an upscale, gourmet meal. I can't complain though...good food, service, and a friendly staff. That's all you need when going out. read more

Great service. Did not appreciate being double charged for gratuity. It wasn't that good. We waited for drinks and apps far longer than we should have. When you come here; anticipate a long wait for a server and then for your actual order. Thank goodness the scenery is pretty. read more

Everything was absolutely perfect our 33 year anniversary and Ms. Brenda was "AMAZING " with her many hats bartering and supervising staff. We loved the holiday ambiance. Having a Santa there with nautical themed questions- really added to it! Amirah was a very patient waitress (we were somewhat boisterous and had lots of questions). This is a review for the Boathouse at Sunday Park. Decided to come with the family for brunch today, Sunday. Prices are RIDICULOUS. Ordered the "Biscuit Basket" and it came with 3 biscuits for $8! This is absurd. Food portions are way too small and our food was served lukewarm, at best. Too pricey for very little food and poor quality. Save your $ and go somewhere else where you can get more bang for your buck. read more

I have lived here for 36 years and have seen many ownership changes. It's time for another one. They suck. Service and prices. They are always short of servers and the outside bar is often closed. That's what makes this place amazing. Boaters and clients go there for the outdoors and sunset. Prices are also terrible. Covid was the death of this place. What a waste in such great location!!! I have it a one star because there is no -10 star read more

This adventure started when what is now The Boathouse at Sunday Park was Sunday's Restaurant. Now a Boathouse staple, we created the incomparable crab cake recipe back then and have been perfecting it over decades. Throughout the years, both the atmosphere and the menu have remained neighborhood favorites. Although the name has changed and our family of restaurants has grown, our purpose has always been to welcome each guest with warmth and to provide the finest culinary dining experience that Richmond has to offer.

When I was at the boathouse it was my first visit there and I was excited to try it. I was visiting my friends from out of town and they thought it would be a nice place to dine out. We walked around outside and saw the lake before and after dinner; this was so beautiful and enjoyable. But when we were seated for our meal they explained that we look at the menu online from our phones and place the order there and pay. I get the no touch policy due to the pandemic going on but when they also told us they automatically take 20% for their tip; I was a little shocked. First of all we as diners are doing part of the work by placing the order and submitting the payment. The wait staff is preparing and bringing the meal to us, yes; but 20% tip right off the bat it a little much. What happens if you didn't want to tip that much if you got bad service? Now also think about this: the wait staff is already getting 20% tip so they can give mediocre service and not really care what kind of service they give you. When we placed our order my friends and I ordered together at the same time. Our drinks and appetizers come out first In a timely fashion but my friends drink order was messed up. Some things went thru twice and they only wanted to order one. I do believe the original waiter came and reviewed with us what we ordered, but then someone different brought out the drinks and the meals. My friends ended up getting 2 drinks. Then we placed the order together for the meal. I got my meal first and then one of my friends got theirs, but my other friend had to wait for theirs. We ordered the exact same thing. I even think that my other friends order was incorrect as well; got 2 of the same order. Finally my friends order was brought out but the main part of the meal was missing. No explanation was given at that time as to why, they just said it would be out shortly. My friend had to wait almost 30 minutes to get their complete meal and it wasn't until the manager came to the table that we were told why the main part of the meal was missing. It had been overcooked (burned) which happens, but could have been explained earlier. Perhaps a complimentary drink or substitute could have been done if they were told the real reason instead of waiting and getting more upset and disappointed. It was disappointing to come all that way, have my friends upset about their meals while paying a hefty price for everything. I just think that some things could have been done differently to help make this meal go a different way. Thank you. read more

The Boathouse at Sunday Park has been my fav place to dine since moving to this area seven years ago. The food is deliciously prepared and presented and about a year ago, became excellent with the hiring of a new chef. Accomopaniments are carefully well-chosen to enhance the flavor of the entree. Last night I got pan seared salmon with reduced blood orange juice, gingered baby carrots, Swiss Chard with balsamic, and quinoa, a nutty, unique, earthy grain. It all blended perfectly to creat a meal that was hearty and woodsy, perfect for a chilly December evening. My husband made a meal of fried shrimp on the appetizer menu, a very ample serving. We shared a bowl of mussels that were large and succulent and sweet. My Manhattan cocktail began the dinner. The servers and hostesses are always pleasant and know the menu well, offering suggestions or explaining unusual items with confidence and accuracy. I don't usually order desserts but have shared some with friends and they do not dissapoint. The wine list is extensive & with much variety. I really like that the restaurant supports local fare, such as salad greens, milled products, local brew, fresh Hanover tomatoes in season and local Chesapeake Bay seafood. The menu is varied with seafood/fish, pork, beef, brick oven pizzas, fresh sushi and an extensive wine list.The bartenders are the best and will custom make your drink to order. I enjoy a Manhattan in cooler weather but their mojitos are the best for warmer days, even using fresh mint grown on the property. Ambiance is a big plus, especially during warm weather when the patio is open. The view of the lake and the awesome sunsets is phenomenal, especially when the shorebirds take off or land on the water, or when a canoe or kayak crosses the reflection of the multicolored sky. Coffee drinkers will enjoy the bold coffee from the individual French press pots and the after-diner liquours are great. I believe The Boathouse has been under the same ownership since its inception. My grandfather was put on hospice and today my whole family spent the day by his side. It was a beautiful day filled with tears, sharing memories, laughs, and grief. On our way home I wanted nothing more than to look at the water to ease my pain with a crème brûlée treat because it reminded me of my mother who was going through the unthinkable. The hostess staff were wonderful and sat us right by the water without a reservation. Our waitress Savanah and staff Jamie were so kind and friendly. We had a the decedent crab dip and split a pizza. When it came time for dessert we had been told that they had run out of crème brûlée earlier in the day. Due to the circumstances of us coming out to the Boat House, Jamie, Savanah, and cook James Taylor went above and beyond to make us a special crème brûlée. I was blown away at the empathy, caring, and service the Boat House offered at such a vulnerable time. Not only was the food delicious but the staff was really thoughtful, and the view of the setting sun was picturesque and provided food for thought you need when processing grief and celebration contemplating the cycle of life. We made a reservation and took the family for Sunday brunch. Since it was August in Richmond, we decided to sit inside in the air conditioning. We tried several of the specialty drinks, and the Kiss of The Lemon (limoncello and sparkling wine) is now my favorite brunch drink. My husband had the Painkiller, with dark rum and cream of coconut. We ordered both raw and fried oysters as shared appetizers. Both were well presented and very good. The Eggs Benedict are served on biscuits instead of english muffins, and my husband enjoyed the one that he ordered. The family also enjoyed their omelets; and the Eggs Diablo were a big hit. A nice touch was the strawberry butter that accompanied the bread basket. The dessert menu appeared to be mostly cocktails. But when we asked our server about the "mini indulgences" she brought out a display of them for us to see. These are small parfait-like desserts, and after seeing them, we chose four to try. The service was good. The restaurant was not crowded. There was a folk singer, but he was facing the outdoors and we couldn't really hear him since we had decided to sit inside. The food was fine. The location was nice. I will never go back. The restaurant revolves around an app-based ordering system that makes everyone at the table stare at their phones, instead of the view or at others. It off-loads all of the work on customers and is genuinely confusing and frustrating. We just went to have fun and had infuriating time trying to order where I felt we needed to have someone from IT help us order. And, for what it is worth? I work in IT. It felt like a day at work trying to figure out the operating system and help people at the table, ages 16 - 71. Terrible, terrible afternoon out. Also: The Boathouse has moved to a system where they no longer expect tip but instead have a 'service fee' for dinner. They explain this as a decision they have made to provide a living wage to servers. I support that 100% but I think perhaps they moved to that model because their new operating system would be the death of tips to servers. I guess the one good thing I will say is that if they are going to move to an ordering system that makes any number of customers mad, at least they have insulated their servers against their own bad decisions. read more

Dining at the Boathouse at Sunday Park was an absolute treat from start to finish. The setting alone is beautiful, but what truly stood out was the food and the exceptional service. The portions were incredibly generous, and every dish was packed with amazing flavor. It's the kind of meal where you find yourself slowing down just to savor each bite because everything is so well prepared. You definitely leave satisfied--and likely with leftovers if you pace yourself right. What really elevated the experience, though, was our waiter, Levi. He struck the perfect balance of attentiveness and professionalism. Levi was always nearby when we needed something, yet he never hovered or interrupted the flow of our conversation. Every request we made was handled quickly and graciously, and his friendly, easygoing demeanor made the evening feel relaxed and welcoming. Between the delicious food, the generous portions, and Levi's outstanding service, it was a wonderful dining experience all around. I would absolutely return and highly recommend the Boathouse at Sunday Park to anyone looking for a memorable meal in a beautiful setting. read more

The view is what makes The Boathouse a must-go place to dine when the weather is good. But, the complete lack of umbrellas, sun shades or even high level sun sails makes the outdoor dining area a sweltering inferno if the sun is shining. The staff does their best, but there are frequent service issues--especially with newer staff who probably needed more training on the menu. Food is generally good, though there have been some pretty blatant food-fails from time to time. All in all (1) great location that needs comfort tweaks, (2) service is generally good, though often slow, (3) food is consistent, but nothing to rave about. I'd say that the #1 reason to go to the Boathouse is to go to the outdoor bar as long as you can get one of the shaded seats. The bartenders are very friendly and helpful and do their best during frequent understaffing situations. read more

Just wanted to give a big shout out to Chastyde Royster at the Boathouse in Brandermill!!! She always greets us with a warm smile and makes us feel like we are family from the moment we walk. She is very personable and just a true professional in every way. This review is long overdue as one of the first times I met her was Valentines day 2024 after arriving at our igloo. She was gracious and so kind showing us to our igloo and made us feel like royalty. She was attentive to every detail. Nothing has changed. We went back this year and received the same personable service along with our exceptional waiter Hayden. Haden was polite, professional and knowledgeable of the menu. We held our daughter's wedding reception at The Boathouse at Sunday Park. The venue was simply spectacular! The location was absolutely awesome and the event coordinator, Susan Birkenheier was an absolute joy to work with! She was always polite and courteous even during those crazy stressful weeks just prior to the actual event. She was organized and experienced which gave us such peace of mind. The wait staff were professional and personable, polite and caring. The food was wonderful and we received numerous positive comments from friends and relatives who attended. The beautiful grounds and vistas overlooking the lake were breathtaking, specifically at sunset. I've visited the boat house previously at another location and decided to try the Midlothian location. They did not disappoint. The view and cleanliness of the restaurant was excellent. Eli was our server and was super helpful, gave great recommendations and made sure we had everything we needed. Me and my husband got the opportunity to meet the manager also Chastyde. We wanted to thank her for the amazing food and service we received. While we talked she discovered that we had just got married and brought us a nice surprise. Our server Eva (10 out of 10 recommend). She was amazing, helpful with suggestions, very friendly and polite, checked on us consistently to make sure we were enjoying our time and our food. Bryce provided fabulous service, recommendations and made us feel like we mattered. We are foodies so it's a a true compliment to say, my Broiled Seafood Combo was DELISH! It was cooked perfectly, so much so, I felt like I was eating at a high end ocean front restaurant. My orange crush 'crushed it' and the view from the interior top floor was ideal. We had dinner at the Boathouse at Sunday Park last Friday evening and had great service and a good meal. Our waiter Justin was very attentive and made some great suggestions for dinner. For some reason service was slow that evening but Justin came back to our table giving us status and checking on us, that was much appreciated. The salmon entry was perfect as was the fish and chips. At Justin's suggestion we each had the Zookie for dessert, well worth the wait. Needless to say we were stuffed! I can't thank The Boathouse enough for helping me plan my mom's 75th birthday party! The entire pre-event experience was a breeze thanks to Amanda and Amanda. The event space was beautiful and the food was truly delicious - a pleasant surprise, as I often find that food at large events can be overcooked. Not this time! Everything was perfect. A special shout-out to the Banquet Attendants, Billy and Alex, who were incredibly professional, helpful, and friendly. They helped create a truly special celebration for my mom. I am not from VA, but if I was, I would spend my life savings here just to be waited on by the AMAZING waitress Brenda. The food was scrumdiddlyumptious and I definitely recommend the calamari. It was cooked perfectly and the dessert was marvelous too. Brenda helped my table when we were having card issues on the website, and she always made sure we were taken care of. Although I didn't meet the other workers, they are probably incredible as well. If I were to rate the restaurant out of 10, I would rate it an 11. If you need a restaurant to eat at with an ambrosial view, The Boathouse is the place. read more

Would not recommend. First, there's so many "servers" but you have to order your food from your phone. They add an automatic 20% gratuity without having an actual server take your order. We ordered our food. 1 hour and 15 minutes went by and we still did not get an appetizer. We ended up leaving. With 3 kids you can only take so long without food. They kept saying their kitchen was backed up but kept seating people. I come from the restaurant business and this is not how to run a restaurant. Several tables walked out as well. Will not return. We came in this past sunday for brunch with our grandkids who came from out of town, decided to take them here because it was nice! I'm sure I caused the sweet young lady at the front desk some challenges by changing our reservation several times, nothing but kindness radiated from the phone to the front door. They were certainly busy when we got there, but our server, Alicia, gave us an excellent experience and was very helpful when we had questions about the menu. The food was delicious! Visited the Boathouse for dinner last night with my wife and a close friend, our first visit in a few years as we no longer live in the area. it was every bit as good as I remember it to be. Each of us had a different entree and each was delicious as were the Oyster Rockefeller we started with. The biggest "plus" however, was our waiter, Chris. He did an awesome job. Terrible service. Came here Tuesday and was incredibly disappointed. Management is incredibly unprofessional, talking bad about customers directly behind our table calling them names, specifically a woman with tattoos and blonde hair. Cursing and very inappropriate language coming from the employees as well. The food was nowhere near good. I had plastic in my crab cake as well as hair in my husbands salad.
