Massages are mediocre at best. Service is below par, they do not speak ANY English (Allison who is always at the front desk does speak English, and she will come in and check on you During your massage *awkward) You can not smell the "aromatherapy" during your service. It is open air, as in all of the stalls are open on the top to their neighbors so you always hear what is going on with other massages. Be careful while in this salon, as it has been robbed and the owner fails to communicate with the victim for nearly half a year regarding the theft, even though he carries insurance. I really wanted to like this place, but Fred's utter lack of follow through has forced my 2.5 star down to a one. *** UPDATE *** The day after I posted my review Fred, the owner (old bald white gentleman), finally took steps to remediate the theft that took place in his salon. Because I had frequented the spot numerous times before, I had purchased my sister a gift certificate to try it out (before the theft). She moved out of the area and returned to the certificate to me. Thinking that the past was "water under the bridge" I called to make an appointment and put the certificate to use. I was told to come in at my desired time. As I have my phone number I was then placed on hold, only to be told that they would not be allowed to serve me. I was disappointed, but understood and requested my money then be returned to me. I was told I would need to "make an appointment to speak to the owner". Too bad some are so petty. A simple apology and response to me in the beginning would have went a long way. Character means a lot, particularly when you're in the customer service industry. I just hope they treat their immigrant workers more fairly than their patrons. read more

The spa is very clean. Easy to get an appointment. Clayton is GREAT! He's intuitive, has great technique, is kind and professional. From what i was told he has only been practicing for 2/3 years, however he is exceptionally skilled in deep tissue. I have been practicing and specialize in deep tissue for 10 years now. I went into the appointment in a lot of pain and didn't even get a chance to explain every single problem I was experiencing. He found trigger points and tension, i hadn't even mentioned and spent just the right amount of time to get to everything else. A bit more experience and some "fine-tuning" he will easily become the best deep tissue therapist in Modesto, CA. Today is the day after the massage and I feel great. I've been here a handful of times. It's always a good idea to call and see what appointments they have available. Make sure to communicate to the receptionist if you would like a male or female masseuse and what pressure you like. Also, let them know where you want them to concentrate. The masseuses do not understand or speak English. They do know what softer or harder means. You pay for the service prior to getting the massage. You can give the tip later and they appreciate cash tips. Also don't forgot to get a stamp card. You can get a free massage after 10 visits! So awesome! Before you go with your masseuse, you will be asked to choose an essential oil. If you've ever had an Asian massage you know that they don't have actual rooms you can hear everyone. Despite this, I still enjoy getting my massages here. I usually like getting the Royal combination, which has Asian foot massage and later turn into deep massage. At the end they greet you and give you a cup of water. And we all go home happy! read more

One thing I LOVE about this place are their hours; they're realistic to needs of people who work and can't make it in before 5-6pm. Most folks get off of work at 5pm, and The Body Spa closes at 10pm every day! Everything inside this place is very clean and well kept up. The staff here is so professional and the full body massage was exactly what we needed. The ambiance in the room was extremely calming, the music was not too loud and we even got to choose an oil to scent the room with. I asked for medium/hard pressure and wow she got those knots out of my upper back/shoulders. Throughout the massage she would ask if the pressure was okay and made sure I was comfortable. My wife and I often go for the Full Body or Oriental Combination massage, which have been excellent every time. The masseuses are extremely talented, professional, and caring. She always provides great customer service to my wife and me, and makes sure our experience is comfortable, relaxing, and satisfying. I recently dropped in myself for a back massage, as I was experiencing some discomfort in my mid back throughout the day. The receptionist got me in with no wait at all, and she made sure I received the proper massage package for my needs. The massage was excellent; the masseuse literally rubbed out the discomfort I was experiencing in my back and was very tentative to my comfort and well-being throughout the entire massage. I've been to a number of places in Modesto and Turlock for massages, and by far The Body Spa has been the best. Absolutely deserves the great reviews. One hour full body massage was amazing. I like a really really hard massage and it was exactly that. Very well done..he knew exactly what the trigger areas were and paid attention to that hard knot on my left back shoulder area. The hot rocks were so soothing. The neck massage was carefully done and didn't bother my osteoarthritis at all..in fact it was a great combination of stretching and kneading that again..felt amazing. The front desk receptionist was very efficient and carefully explained the options, cost, procedure so that I felt totally at ease. I was asked if I was ok with a face massage and that I could always say harder or softer as needed as the masseuse did not speak English but knew those words. She was correct because on the hand massage I asked for it to be softer and he adjusted immediately. I didn't expect them to have any availability since it was last minute, but they were able to fit all of us in for massages at the same time. The masseuses here have excellent attention to detail. They always find my problem areas and work them well. I especially like that the combination massage takes place in one location, unlike some of the other places around that will do your foot massage and body massage in different rooms. This is a very nice place to get a massage. The employees are very very accommodating and friendly and the atmosphere is very tranquil. They have an awesome 30 minute massage for only $35 which was very affordable for me and very worth the money. They use hot rocks and put as much pressure on your body during a massage as you want. I called on Sunday morning to see if they had time for a couples massage and they were able to get us in that afternoon. The lady at the front desk was super nice, explained everything since it was our first time. For being in a strip mall I half expected it to be full of fluorescent lights and a half effort massage. When I walked in it was immediately calming, quiet and smelled very relaxing. They checked with me for firmness on the massage before starting as well as what essential oil I would like in the room. Very good massage. I felt the muscle tightness and knots leave my body after just one massage. It is very fairly priced. I feel that it exceeded my expectation for value for the money. UPDATE -- Came back yesterday for the Royal Combo (my back/shoulders/arms were killing from work, driving, and kickboxing). The 90 minute Royal Combo, as others mentioned, consists of 45 minutes of the standard foot/body massage, and then 45 minutes of a more in-depth body massage. My massage therapist was a very kind, elderly, Chinese man. He was very considerate and communicative with me (after finding out I speak Mandarin) during the process. The body portion of the massage is definitely DIFFERENT from standard Swedish massages; there was a lot more detail in my massage -- my therapist focused on many little portions of my back and neck with very quick/firm strokes, rather than the elongated strokes/rubbing in many Western massages. He was very, very diligent (to the point where I almost felt bad for him) the ENTIRE 90 minutes of the massage (not a MINUTE was wasted -- a feat that, unfortunately, can't be claimed by many therapists). Again, WOW, I'm so impressed by this location and the quality of work they provide at affordable rates. I've been privileged enough to experience other massage therapists in the area, and so far, this little business has surpassed them all! read more
