Stumbled on to this place on Fat Tuesday of this year. Of course as we all know, Fat Tuesday didn't exist this year, what a-shame. Finally - a place putting big, fresh, hand- breaded shrimp on a po-boy!! Score!! The "J Burrell" po-boy is a roast beef debris po-boy topped with fried shrimp. The debris is very good, but dry (it's really just a very good shredded roast). It does come with a cup of jus, and the fried shrimp on top are perfect. The soft-shell crab sandwich was really good, with some great pickles ("Wickles pickles"). The fries are thick cut curls with that perfect crispy outside-soft fluffy inside like good steak fries (only better). The blue crab dip was rich and creamy with crusty garlicky crostini for dipping. Good selection of beers (including a couple of hometown locals), good service, a rustic atmosphere, patio dining, and good food. Definitely a good find among a ton of choices in this quaint little tourist town. read more

My husband and I are visiting Fairhope from Greenville SC. Our first night in town we wanted to go somewhere with a "Biergarten" atmosphere and found this place. The out door seating is nice and inside is smaller but cozy. The menu was standard, salads, soups, sandwiches, and fresh catch. I ordered the seared tuna sandwich but as tuna only, no bread or toppings with a side of asparagus. Food was great, and service was good. I imagine we will visit again for happy hour before leaving town. read more

We ate at the Bone and Barrel yesterday. We had the crab dip with toasted, buttered French bread slices. This is what I call crab dip. There was lots of crab with no other fillers like some other restaurants. Creamy, and it comes temperature hot! Burned the roof of my mouth, that's how good it was! I had bone and barrel garden salad with house balsamic dressing. The salad had lots of fresh sweet fruit and dried cranberries and pecans. Hubby had the oyster Po boy. Lightly seasoned and the fries were thick with some crispiness and seasoned. The wait staff are very friendly and were prompt with the order. The price is average for Fairhope. read more

One of our favorite places for casual dining and drinks. Definitely a carnivore's place. A little on the expensive side for bar food with appetizers around $12! (Hence 4 stars). Burgers are amazing. The chicken sandwich is truly one of the best I've ever eaten. I had it fried but the super cool bartender said to try it grilled with buffalo sauce next time. The J. Burrell is a surf and turf on a bun and awesome. I will say that if they have the Filet on the specials board, GET IT. They work some magic in that kitchen. Very, very good steak. This dish is DEFINITELY worth the $$ they charge. BIG piece of meat for a Filet and drop dead delicious sauce. Excellent mules, strong drinks and cold beer. The wait staff and bartenders should be applauded for their efforts at wearing their masks. While others wear them just on their chin or hanging from their ears (Tamara's), the staff here takes it seriously. So if you are anti-mask, don't give them grief please. If you are pro-mask, take the time to say thanks. We all know it sucks to wear them so I at least try to show them some love. Did have a waiter ignore us for over 10 minutes one Sunday night just so he could walk up 1 minute until 9pm and in a snotty voice announce that the kitchen was closed. I just asked if it was closed 11 minutes ago when we sat down and he proceeded to walk by us 5 times without speaking to us. We thought that was a real "Richard" move. We were just there for drinks anyway but that made us decide to leave. I think his name was David - long, curly, dark hair. Went here once...Will be back! My girlfriend and I swung into The Bone and Barrel for appetizers on the way to another restaurant. I wish I would've stayed and order more! We had the Crab Cakes appetizer and the Seafood Bisque. Both were BURSTING with flavor. The freshness and high quality of the locally-sourced Gulf Coast seafood was unmistakable. They were very generous on the amount of crab meat too! The Seafood Bisque is probably the best I've ever tasted on the Gulf. The restaurant is a bit dark and rustic but they have a really nice open back patio dining area that can be enjoyed most days. The patio area also frequently has local/regional musicians strumming out some live music to add to the dining experience. I will be back to try more of the menu for sure! read more

Have eaten at Bone and Barrel many times and it is one of our favorite places to eat. Our experiences have ranged from "excellent" to problematic. The fries are always excellent. Recently the food has become so salty we aren't able to eat it. I usually get the half and half poboy with oysters and either fish or shrimp. Oysters are really salty but delicious otherwise. Last visit the grouper was outstanding. Husband gets the debris poboy which can be delicious but last visit the sauce was so salty he sent it back. Service is usually good and pretty consistent. I can't stress enough how bad the over salting has become. We love this neighborhood place and don't want it to decline. read more

Amazing little bar and restaurant! My husband and I found this gem after a church conference and it was the only place open beside Burger King. We were pleasantly surprised by the amazing quality of cuisine offered. My husband and I split the Bone-In Ribeye and the B&B House Salad. I can't even tel you which one was better because they were really so delicious in their own right! It's definitely a bar, noisy and lively when we went but I would recommend this place absolutely! Great food and portions sizes are HUGE! My husband and I had dinner there after a friend suggested it. I had the shrimp and crab mac n cheese and he had the fried ribs with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. Food was great and the atmosphere was laid back and relaxed. My wife and I had some kid-free time last night. We had no intention on wasting it. We made plans early in the day to go out and enjoy dinner and maybe a drink. We had been eye-balling Bone and Barrell for some time now- just waiting for one of these elusive kid-free evenings to occur. Our time was now. As we approached the building- there was a fantastic aroma in the air. This excited me even more- I couldn't be certain that the pleasant smell was coming from Bone and Barrel- but I sure was hoping it was. We walked in and were seated right away. They left the door open- which made for a chilly experience. As we walked to our seat- I glanced at the bar to catch a glimpse of what bourbons they had. I don't know why- but I assumed a place with this name would have a nice bourbon selection. I was quickly disappointed to see that the selection was "meh" at best. But that's okay. I hadn't eaten all day and was here for the food! Bring on the menu! One page? That's it? Cool! That means the stuff on this one page is so good that that's all that they need. If you are sensing that there may be more disappointment around the corner, you are correct. We started with the Nacho a la Hawg as an app. Ordered our main dishes to share with each other. We ordered The Rooster and the Triple B burger. The wifey ordered a cocktail. Let's start with the nachos. Pork Rinds topped with standard nacho fare, mustard, and crockpot pulled pork and cheese. They weren't good. They weren't bad. But- I wouldn't order them again. I mean- they had so much potential- but the mustard didn't go and the pork was virtually flavorless. Not a fan. Let's get to why we came. The main event. I see it coming out. The sandwiches paired with sidewinder fries. MMMM. A plate of greasy goodness is about to be in my gullet. Then I get a closer look. Hold up. Real quick. Here is a PSA to all cooks and restaurants. If the breading comes out a very dark brown color and is so dang crispy that it can barely be penetrated by a fork or knife- It's time to change the grease and revisit your cooking times. Just sayin'. I am not going to sugar coat this. The chicken sandwich was second rate. It was dry. The breading tasted terrible from the grease that had been in the vat from last Christmas. The coleslaw topping was surprisingly bad. In the South- bad fried chicken should be a crime. The burger? Meh. The star of the entire show was the fries. They were good. And the service was good too! It has been at least a year since I have dined here. But it was Ground Hog Day because nothing had changed at all - especially the menu. The interior had not changed at all. That is my nice way of saying Get Off Your Butt Bone/Barrel! The interior was the same, but it did not feel clean or fresh at all. The lighting is way off, especially at lunch. It is dark enough to make me wonder what is being held under wraps. The food is pretty good. Portions are huge and the prices are right. It seems that B&B is either confused about its true identity. The Bone and Barrel has been on our bucket list for a few months, and we fell in love on the first visit. The cozy and laid back atmosphere is fantastic! There are several butcher block top dining tables lined up across from the bar downstairs. Walk straight out back to the patio and see the outside bar, small stage, pub tables, comfy sofas and fire pits. They usually have live music, but it's not so loud that you can't hear yourself talk. I love that! Walking upstairs was a bit nostalgic for me because it reminds me of a restaurant with an upstairs bar called City Grocery, where I spent many, many nights in my younger years. This bar was far less crowded and more grown up. The balcony from the upstairs bar overlooks downtown Fairhope. The whole place is just badass from top to bottom! They reserve the patio and upstairs bar for parties. The atmosphere is enough to call you back, but the food - oh my gosh - will make you want to eat there every night! We started with the blue crab dip. It was rich and creamy and loaded with fresh lump crab meat, served with crostini. For my entree, I ordered the Debris Poboy. It was a dark pot roast drenched in its own juice. My hubs had the shrimp with spinach and goat cheese grits, covered in a tomato gravy. We loved that the grits were served like grit cakes. The man at the table next to us ordered a soft shell crab sandwich. When they sat it down, he asked how he was supposed to get it in his mouth. It was huge! It looked delicious and he indicated that it was. He devoured every bite of it. I think my next meal from there will be the Triple B Burger. The prices were very reasonable for what you get. The place was actually much less expensive than I expected. Our total meal - appetizer, two entrees, and two drinks - was about $45.00. The service was excellent as well. Nothing but a headache. Workers & management were hammered, rubbing up on customers, I got a different set of rules and story from every different worker and no one's on the same page. My girlfriend (of age) is unable to drive so she doesn't have a drivers license but she has an identification card. They told us it was a fake and we're lying to them(Said the DL# doesnt match on the back but there isnt a DL# on the back). Head of security confirmed it & told us to go around the front again because another over zealous security guy yanked her band off. And was given the same BS run around at the front door. The only credit i can give them is they refunded us but whats a young couple have to do to get some food & live music around here? Apparently I'm going to have to bring a police officer to confirm it or talk to the BBB! Such a shame because we called ahead to confirm that being under 21 wouldn't be a problem for eating and enjoying music. Wasted my time & night. read more

This place was recommended highly by my sister in law. She even suggested what to order. I followed her suggestions to a T and was not disappointed. The debris poboy was fantastic. I'm not sure I can say much more than that. A-Ma-Zing! $12 and it comes with fries. It was so large and juicy I almost couldn't get it in my mouth...but I did and it was worth the effort. The waitress was friendly and was even excited about my meal selection. She kept our drink glasses full which is something I critique highly on. The restaurant itself is nicely done. Walked in and got a table right away. Hostess was really sweet and brought us waters right away. I believe her name was Ashley (young girl with braces). We waited for our server Jim (bad waiter with blonde hair) for at least 10 minutes before he came to the table to get drink orders. During drink orders my husband asked if we could watch the hockey game on one of the TVs. It was not busy so didn't think it was a problem. Took another 15 minutes to get the drinks and order food. The bar tender did not take that long to get them ready. I seen them sitting at the end of the bar as we were sitting across from it. After delivery he was gone again for a long time. When we seen him, we asked for more drinks and if he had any luck finding the channel on tv. He responded to my husband "I will get to it after I do my first job" which he clearly couldn't do that either. After finally getting our food that took 45 minutes, the order was wrong. The burgers, mama K and B and B burgers were delicious but gave us mashed potatoes instead of the conecuh mac and cheese. So you guessed it...waited for that. He was sweet enough to not charge us for the mashed potatoes he wrongly brought out. Amazing. We went there for dinner one day and had drinks and a few appetizers. Not a huge fan of the J Burrell sandwich: I basically ate the shrimp off of it and then was left with a debris sandwich. It's not that it was bad but it was impossible to eat. That may be a good thing for you. Wife had the Cuban sandwich. Juicy meat and with Wickles? You can't go wrong! We went back for lunch and I posted a picture of the Rooster sandwich I had. It is absolutely incredible. Marinated in buttermilk and grilled.... I added a side of Buffalo sauce..... I want one right now. Getting the fried version might be the only sandwich that could be better than the one I had. The presentation with the onion rings is spectacular as well. You'll have the whole table wishing they had ordered what you ordered. I can't wait to go back and try something else (if I can bring myself to order anything but the Rooster again...)
