I've been to Bistro multiple times, and it has never disappointed me. Easy to get reservations. A cute slightly upscale brunch and dinner place. The food is very tasty. Everyone loved it! What we got: Poutine Emanuel - the fries were amazing! I'll give this place 3 stars, but with a couple of 1 star comments. We took our Mom here for her 92nd birthday, had a reservation. Really nice atmosphere, we were greeted when we walked in, our server was fantastic. We all loved the food, and really enjoyed the place. At one point somebody came out, I'm guessing the manager or owner, asked how we were doing, and said if we needed anything at all, please let him know. My sister-in-law said "thank you, actually I'd really love a small amount of grits... like a couple of tablespoons on the side".. this guy replies he could only do a bowl and that's $4.00... ok, I can get you anything means anything but a shot glass worth of grits. He then repeats "if you need anything, please let me know." Got it. After we finished, our server announces that they'd like to offer Mom a complimentary desert and offers 3 choices. She enthusiastically chooses the chocolate cake. A few minutes later he reappears and says they're telling him the only option for a birthday desert is bread pudding. Seriously, they can't afford to give up a slice of cake? I was going to pay for it but at that point we'd decided it was time to move on. I'm sure they have their reasons for all of it, and I'm sure there will be a reply here from the owner, but it's all B.S. I stand by the 5 stars for the server, the atmosphere, and food. Service was slow, food wise, they must be short staffed today but they are nice and doing their best. Don't get the gumbo. Thin and flavorless. The chef must be from Ohio. Had reservations for Valentine's Day dinner there this evening. In the past, for dinner just any old day & not a holiday or during Mardi Gras, everything has always been fabulous. Tonight was awful! My husband's steak was way overcooked & he had to send it back. He NEVER does that! The 2nd one was just as bad. The mashed potatoes tasted funky & seem to have been reconstituted. Even my cosmopolitan was bitter-I couldn't drink it. AND DINNER COST $300.00! We'll give them another chance, but NEVER during Mardi Gras, Valentine's Day or any other holiday. read more

Decided to give this place a try despite its 3 star rating. This deserves less than that. Everything they sell was from Costco, not very fresh. Our steaks were undercooked and when we sent it back to be cooked more it was overcooked. They didn't accommodate well for my mom who wanted their pasta without the seafood. I called ahead and asked if we could bring bottles of wine and they said there would be no corkage fee, but when we came with our bottles, they charged us a $25 corkage fee per bottle. Kiera was a great server, and she tried to make up for the rest of the horrible experience, but unfortunately we were extremely disappointed. Very nice, clean place. Service was warm and welcoming. Great wine selection. The burger wand bacon wrapped shrimp were amazing! Wasn't a big fan of the scampi. I'm giving a 1 star rating, not because of the food or service, but due to the complete lack of consideration they give to the Fort Conde Inn patrons. We paid a lot of money to stay at the inn, and enjoyed the quality and service from the Bistro, when they would serve us. On Saturday, as we returned from the evening Mardi Gras parades to enjoy a drink and meal at the Bistro, we discovered that the restaurant was closed due to a private event. Who in the hell decided that it was a good idea to allow the restaurant, on a Mardi Gras Saturday, to be closed to the guests of the hotel! We were extremely disappointed, and will let everyone we know to be weary of this place. I know money is king, but I really hope they think about what they are doing. When we got back to the hotel and went to the restaurant, we saw the "closed due to private event sign" and there were only 4 or 5 people inside. Unreal! read more

Our groups experience was not very pleasant. We should have left as soon as we were asked how many of us there were. When I answered 8, the girl was not pleased. She then let us know we would have to sit outside and asked if that was ok. She then just pointed to where we go outside. She did not follow us or anything. So, we sat ourselves and pulled together tables and chairs. No big deal. It was when we almost left after sitting outside for 10 minutes before even ordering our drinks we started realizing this was a bad idea. We were there for 2 hours. We only wanted to be there for 1 hour. The children were really getting restless as we were there for 1 hour before getting our food. Which the children ordered a yogurt with granola, mixed pastries (which were obviously already made), and a waffle. They should not have had to wait so long for theirs at all. It was so bad, my husband who has been a server most his life, only left 18% tip. He rarely does that. He normally leaves a 20%. read more

Just had a family dinner/gathering this evening. This review is mainly about the food quality. Our server Kiera was wonderful. She attended to our needs throughout dinner and was genuinely super friendly. Thanks again Kiera. Now back to the food. At first glance, what we immediately noticed was that they probably purchased their ingredients from Costco. The mashed potato served over the Cochon was basic and seemed to come out from the Costco dry package. The steaks that a couple of us got were not cooked to our requested temp. Flavors were lackluster, uninspiring, and unoriginal! Too bad since you have to at least keep up with the surrounding restaurant competitors to stay open. Unfortunately, my problem was with the service, no personality, slow and forgetful ( we had to ask for silverware twice). Parking can be a pain if the Inn is having a wedding but that is a okay, I just wish they had better front of house. read more

Friends took me there for my birthday. The wait staff was outstanding! Very friendly and attentive without interrupting our brunch. The selection was varied. Eggs Benedict, waffles and omelettes mostly. I had the veggie omelette- very good as were the potatoes. Try the Bellini. Very delicious. A great place to bring guests. I found this restaurant to be open on Sunday and that was a plus because not many places around here are open on Sunday. I found this small restaurant to have a lot of charm. My server Grace, a very pleasant young lady made suggestions and also communicated the items that were not available. I ordered two of the small plates;the crab cakes and the poutine with the conecuh sausage. A good crab cake you can see the crab meat by looking at them. These had plenty of good crab meat and seasoning, absolutely delicious. The poutine, you have frites,gravy,cheese curds and conecuh sausage. You can't get any better than that,absolutely wonderful. I had the honor of meeting Chef Garcia. I did save room for dessert and had the Crème Brûlée. This one had very smooth consistency and vanilla bean seeds. The sign of a well made Creme Brûlée. My next trip through Mobile, will dine here again and try the Entrees. After a long day of driving,having a meal this nice was well appreciated. I have been to Bistro St Emanuel twice now - once right after they opened, and again a year or so later. My first experience was awful -- slow wait staff (with no one else in the restaurant but us), and I had the fries with poutine and an egg on top. The gravy was far too salty and tasted like it came out of a can. I thought maybe because the restaurant was brand new, they just needed time to improve, but I kept avoiding going back even though I work nearby. I just didn't want to waste money on another sub-par experience. Yesterday, I was with a group, and someone suggested it for our work lunch meeting. I was skeptical but thought maybe it would be better this time. It wasn't. For the first half hour we were there (on a Friday at lunchtime), we were the only people in the restaurant. I had the Le Grande Benedict, and the potatoes were undercooked and crunchy, the poached egg was completely cooked through instead of being runny, and the hollandaise was lumpy. The server was nice, and the restaurant is adorable, but those are the only positive things I can say. How are there this many good reviews?! It's overpriced and the menu looks impressive, but the food is not. It's completely underwhelming. I feel bad for people who come to our city from out of town and eat here -- there are so many better choices and menus with the same food. Do yourself a favor and go ANYWHERE else downtown if you want a true Mobile dining experience. read more

Ordered wedge salad but she forgot to bring it.Ordered gin & tonic. The lime was sliced yesterday and sat out all day & in the fridge over night. Dryed out. This is a small place across the street, and/or kitty corner to the Fort Conde Inn (if you go there you will see what I mean). I had several meals there over my three night stay in Mobile, both breakfasts and dinners. I enjoyed everything about this small restaurant. Excellent, friendly servers - - although every once in a while, they might be in the back when you walk in the door, and it might seem that no one is working the front of the house. Just be a little patient, and they will quickly appear. It is a small bistro with fresh ingredients, so do not expect bargain basement prices, but I found the prices not unreasonable for what you get. They have a great bistro burger, an excellent steak, and a number of other great options. For breakfast, they have kind of a standard farmhouse breakfast, and pancakes and french toast, and more. As I said, this is a very good bistro, worth exploring, even if you are not staying close by at the Fort Conde Inn. read more

This place is FABULOUS! I've visited two times and each was absolutely amazing. It was a little challenging to find the first time, but well work it. The chef! Wow, you can't go wrong . The first time, I ordered the first sandwich on the menu... can't recall the name but it was divine - and I don't really like sandwiches. Trust me if you like french toast and standard breakfast food - this takes all of that to another level. The next time, I ordered 'The Bird' - also delish! We chose to sit on the back patio at tables with large umbrellas to shield us from the sun - it was June/ July, extremely hot, but they had a Big Ass Fan (the brand name). Not sure just how much air I got from it, but it was good comic relief nonetheless. Totally recommend this place for brunch or happy hour. read more
