Comfortable neighborhood place with a large outdoor room in the back The plates are the standard fare. The Fried Pickles were tasty, but served room temperature. The hand cut French Fries were the highlight of the Tavern Burger. We informed the server that it was a party member's birthday, expecting a candle on the Key Lime Pie. I've said it once and I'll say it again this is the best place in all of Astoria. It has good food, great beer, great cocktails, and such an awesome atmosphere. Ventured here for restaurant week and was not disappointed so happy the Bonnie was listed. Had the amazing Smashburger, the fried pickles and an Allagash beer. The two desserts, the cosmic brownie, and the Keylime pie were incredibly good. Parking can be a little bit challenging at times, but if you park a little further away, it's a short walk. The flavors were lacking. The fish tacos too, left me missing the fresh notes garnishes often provide. Fish was crisped to perfection but just lacked flavor? I did like that the food items seemed to be made fresh with whole ingredients. I'd return to the establishment, but not for the food. The vibes are great. How have I not reviewed The Bonnie! I forget that there was a life before Yelp and I just have to sometimes catch up my Yelp life with my former life. Intern Lauren had never been so it was a great time to go back. She got there before me and asked if we should sit in the garden area or inside. Even though it was hot, I just love that outdoor area so damn much. So I met her outside at one of their picnic tables. I should note that they have the best cocktails. They use elderflower in some which is such a great ingredient for summer cocktails. We didn't drink this time around but I did need to mention this for future diners. Food wise: a favorite is the shishito pepper which once again did not disappoint. The zucchini chip also ate a huge win with that whipped feta. For the main event, I went with the snap pea and feta salad. A great summer dish. Our server was wonderful. This visit was another great one and look forward to another return! read more

Had a great brunch here! We weren't able to make reservations online and thought it would be packed, but we were seated right away around noon on a Saturday. The restaurant had wood and brick walls, with lots of seating options including backless barstools and couches with tables for smaller parties. To start, we shared the cinna-bun toast sticks. These were wonderful. An order came with four. They were crispy on the outside, while soft and fluffy on the inside. Drizzled with cinnamon sauce, they melted in your mouth. My only complaint was that they didn't offer the cream cheese frosting as a dip. For my main, I had the avocado toast. This was hearty and filling, with grainy bread, pickled onions, poached egg (served on the side), and pumpkin seeds. The plate was sprinkled with tajin spicy seasoning, which provided a nice burst of flavor. Their mimosas were a steal at $8. Mine was served in a stemless wine glass, which was an unexpected change from the usual champagne flute. My partner got the shrimp and grits and said it was one of the best he's had with kale, sausage, and peeled shrimp. He also enjoyed the Astoria iced tea. Service was fast and attentive. Pretty chill bar, has a bar in the front and one in the back. It's super dark in there but it goes with the theme. We came in just for drinks so this review is based solely on that. The drinks were yummy, the only reason it's not a five star it's because the service lacks, then again, we came in a little late so maybe the bartender was tired at that point. Our group really enjoyed brunch at The Bonnie! And it's always a plus when you can make a reservation (on Resy) ahead of time. We sat in a cozy booth by the windows so I couldn't help but indulge in some people-watching. Two of us ordered eggs Benedict ($16): one with Canadian bacon and one with country ham, along with the bottomless local Mighty Oak coffee ($4). The Canadian bacon ended up being more like American bacon though that was perfectly fine by me. I also ordered a side of the cheesy grits ($7) since sometimes eggs Benedict aren't as filling as you'd hope but this was a solid portion. And the grits showed up in a big bowl with oodles of cheesiness. They were delicious so I couldn't leave any traces behind. Long story short, I was very full at the conclusion of brunch.  One teensy quibble was that pancakes were not offered on the menu; one person had a hankering for 'em. Come to think of it, waffles were absent as well. But there were several other classic brunch dishes available.  Service was friendly and attentive; coffee cups were never empty. Curiously, we started off with one server but then a different server began waiting on us without acknowledging the change. (I am not a regular cheese fry person, so this was a positive experience.) I really liked the spicy aioli that came with the fries and wish it had been on the burger also. The chicken was fried to perfection, but it was a little on the smaller side compared to the biscuit. The pickles on the sandwich was to die for. And then the biscuit. OMG. What can I say. Good food, okay atmosphere, bad service. Staff were so poorly trained, they felt like McDonald's staff doing their 2-3 assigned tasks, completely oblivious to everything else outside of their immediate job description. Two examples: There was an issue in our area that impacted a few tables. (Won't say what as it happens everywhere.) At restaurants with well trained staff, you would have seen a manager quickly jump into action to neutralize the situation, reseat people, and possibly even comp drinks. They didn't do anything. Didn't even apologize. We were leaving and the host basically made us get out of their way so they could get past us first. So rude, and unprofessional. I will never visit this place again. The customer service is awful and it's clear that they are struggling financially and will do anything to ring every last dollar out of their customers. The party/event planner is absolutely a disaster to deal with and not flexible in the least. Booked a party bc we were told after trying to just book online on open table that parties of 10 or more needed a party booking. Mind you we were only 9and it doesn't let you book yourself online for more than 6. We requested a table in their garden for 12-14 people anticipating more before the weather and some emergencies. They quoted me $650 for 2 hrs. They told me it's enclosed but failed to mention it's not heated whatsoever. It was absolutely freezing in the place and most of us wore our jackets the entire time we ate. Turned out we were only 9 and they still insisted I pay 650 plus gratuity and service charge. I tried to ask the party manager if we could go inside-9 people and continue our tab to meet the minimum and was told No I would still have to pay the minimum which ended up being close to 900 with fees and tip and open a new tab inside and told they couldn't accommodate us anyway. Mind you outside in the garden where we paid for our reservation there were at least 10 tables free the entire time we were there and when I inquired could we just pay our tab bc they had so many tables free she said no bc had the weather been nice the garden would've been filled up and tables filled- really? So did every single person cancel and pay $650 res to give up their tables. The fact that she wasn't willing to work with us at all despite the fact that there was clearly no need for space is preposterous and evident that they are struggling for business. It's crazy considering that many of us are frequency of their sister business sweet Afton. Needless to say we will not be back to this place and we went around the corner and we're treated with respect and flexibility. The the food is the only reason why I gave this two stars because the food is actually good, but I will never go back here because it's the customer service that will bring you back every time and that was severely lacking here. read more

The service is always fantastic and friendly; you will feel right at home as soon as you are greeted by the host. They have inside and outside options, both are beautiful but I suppose larger groups are better for the back. The avocado toast was beautifully done with a kick to it. GO TO PORTA 23 ACROSS THE STREET INSTEAD! Came for brunch on 3/15/26 as a group of four at 12:07pm. Spotted two empty booths, an empty table, and what looked like additional available seating in the back, but was told by the hostess that we cannot be seated because she has a few 1pm reservations. She told us we could sit at the bar--mind you, there were four seats that were not together so we'd have to sit separately--or we could only have a table if we ate quickly and left before 1pm. I don't know a single restaurant in NYC that would do this to anyone, and last I checked, even with a reservation sometimes you have to wait. In the 3-4 minutes of this interaction, two sets of two finished eating and left, creating even more available seating. We tried pleading with her and asked if we could wait for a table to finish, and reminded her that that other people will finish dining before 1pm, but she didn't budge and didn't try to accommodate us. And this perfectly explains why The Bonnie has been losing its reputation and sliding down the quality scale of places to eat in Astoria. If you want a great brunch, lunch, or dinner, go to Porta 23 across the street instead--better food, better drinks, better service, better atmosphere. read more

I got a weekday dinner with a friend. What a lovely space - both inside and out! Garden in back would be great for a big group. My Ditmars Smash cocktail was good but a bit too full of ice. I'd get beer or wine next time. That fried chicken sandwich, though. I'm still thinking about it. Super juicy chicken and great texture with the additional ingredients. I've been to the Bonnie three times and have always had a decent experience. The first two times I visited were back in 2021, and I recall really loving the dishes I shared with my friend and my husband. In particular, I vividly remember their broccolini melt sandwich, charred shishito peppers, burger, and a couple of tasty seasonal salads. Everything was tasty and portions were hearty. This recent visit felt a bit underwhelming. My husband got the fried chicken sandwich, which was TINY and didn't come with a side. It honestly looked like a McChicken, and I could tell he was disappointed. He ordered a side mac and cheese, which he was happier with, but it was $14, which seems a bit pricey for a side. I ordered the chicken pot pie as did one of our friends, and that was also tiny. It came in a small crock with some puff pastry on top. The filling was very soupy, and I generally prefer my pot pie fillings to be a bit thicker, so I wouldn't necessarily order it again. Our other friend ordered the burger, which looked great. It came on an everything bun with a side of fries and looked perfectly cooked. We also ordered the cheese stuffed pickled peppers, which looked like the ones you can buy at any of the Mediterranean markets in Astoria, and the buffalo Brussels sprouts, which were tasty.
