I recently went to The Grand with a few friends and overall it was a mixed experience. The food wasn't really anything special, but the drinks definitely made up for it. They were actually better than the food. What truly stood out though was the service. Our waitress Lauren D was amazing. She was very attentive, kind, and made sure we were comfortable the whole time. The best part was at the end when she asked if we were celebrating anything. After I told her it was my birthday, she came back with a complimentary cheesecake and even sang happy birthday, which was such a thoughtful and sweet gesture. We attempted to have dinner here this evening, May 20th. We arrived around 5:15pm. There might have been 4 tables total sat. Was seated, given menus. And ignored. Not a busy night. Every other table had carafes of water. It's 91 degrees outside. We waited 15 minutes for someone to bring us water or even acknowledge us. The seating hostess sat another table directly next to us and they got water and acknowledged right off the bat. It was so incredibly rude. Trying to give a restaurant, new to us, a chance. To be treated unfairly. I will stop recommending this place to people. Do better, not a good look for you. CUTE LUNCH SPOT IN ASTORIA I stopped in for an early lunch. We were promptly seated and the service was attentive throughout. The menu was varied with lots to choose from which was what drew us in because I was dining with a fairly picky eater. We opted to order a couple starters to share amongst us since it was still pretty early in the day and no one was up for a full entree. We had the Guacamole & Chips, Sweet Chili Chicken Wings and Crispy Shrimp Tacos. Everyone was happy with what we ordered. The shining star for me was the Strawberry Nutella Crepe which I added a scoop of Vanilla ice cream to make it sheer perfection. Greek Town Astoria cannot be denied it's certain zest for their food and drinks and joyous consumptions. Now crossing the six month mark with the new girlfriend, she's taken me on some day and nighttime humdingers within the inner circles of this culture. I've always respected the Greeks for all of their, albeit antiquated contributions to civilization, their history is one of math and science, stars and sea and much more we all know a little something about from our books when we were in school. Now a bit of a dying culture in my eyes as so many other beautiful cultures are dying because of factors I shall remain steadfast in my tightness of lip. But I shall see the country at some point in the future, maybe I'll stay a while so I might get some food staples and architectural understanding as the language is so challenging. The Grand was slamming music - Greek music -- ehh, its a little hard on my ears but I'm powering thru, as the servers sling plates of spinach this and puff pastry that and salads that reawoke the greens lover in me. And you don't have to be eating here in the street side section of the cafe insulated by thick shrubs and views of this special coven within a part of town that's been a Greek stronghold since I was a young lad and likely decades earlier. We came to the grand on a sunday to celebrate a birthday. Right off the bat, they claimed they did not have our reservation for 10 people and we had to show them the confirmation email. After this we waited about 30 minutes for them to get a table ready and seat us. The hostess was rude and did not make us feel welcomed. Amazing place to dine on any given day. Went on Easter Day and was seated at a decent time frame. There is a DJ so music was loud but good enough to talk. Of course other people dining can be more louder than the music. We opted for the boozy brunch which was also amazingly delish but Prices overall were a bit overpriced for brunch even when we split the bill with my friend, came out to about $100 per person. The appetizer was pretty big and a lot. Almost like an entree. So definitely not going to do that next time.. or maybe 1 appetizer that can be shareable. Came here for brunch last weekend with my cousin and had a good time. We had a reservation that we were late for, however, we were still accommodated and were seated right away. We had chips with guacamole and fruits as starters. For drinks, we had a mimosa, a bellini, iced coffee and frozen rose. Each and every drink was satisfying and refreshing. My cousin and I both had the chicken with waffles as our entrée. The chicken was flaky and it was obvious that it was cooked in a rush. Also, the portion of chicken wasn't the best. The waffles, however, were cooked to perfection. We had to use hot sauce to give the meal more flavor. We dined outdoors since it was so nice out that day. We still was able to heat the music being played and the aesthetic at this restaurant is pretty. There is a floral border surrounding the sign in the front of the restaurant that attracts you to take a photo. I love the fact that the menu contains a variety of foods to order for brunch, lunch, or dinner. I can definitely see myself dining here again in the future. read more

I feel if the toast was more crisp on the edges with a buttery finish it would've been better. They have a bottomless deal for an additional $25 with the purchase of a brunch entree and drinks include mimosas, Bellini, sangria frose and pina coladas. We decided to get a fruit platter to share and unfortunately the platter they handed us had mold on the blueberries. We told our waitress and she took it back and brought a new one. For entree we ended up waiting a while to place our order and I had to flag our waitress down so we can order. We decided on the eggs Benedict a halloumi sandwich with fries and the shrimp Caesar salad. The entrees were delicious and well portioned. For drinks we got Bellini and when I wanted to switch to a frose or pina colada they were unfortunately out. I did end up trying the white sangria and it was light crisp and refreshing definitely my favorite. Since I had Yelp I saw that if you check in you are able to enjoy a free dessert so we opted for a Nutella crepe which was delicious and full of strawberries.
