Go here for the wine and ambiance, and to be able to take a table for 2+ hours. The food is hit or miss, and for the money you can do better elsewhere. I went on a Friday night at 7, and was seated immediately. There was a healthy selection of wine, but the service felt uncaring: they wanted to take my order, not help me with deciding on a wine. I ended up getting a glass of white wine and the oven-baked salmon. The wine was excellent, but the food was disappointing: everything was underseasoned, the spinach and zucchinis were slightly mushy. I've heard that some of the appetizers and steaks are really good, but for ~$30 before tax you really don't wanna be gambling on whether the food is good. read more

It has staying power because it's just that good, but also because it offers things other spots just can't. First and foremost it's a wine bar with an extensive selection. I had been wanting to try this spot since moving to Astoria a few years ago. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed overall. For a wine bar, I thought the wine selection was OK and I received a dirty glass. The highlight food wise was definitely the spinach and artichoke dip. The steamed mussels were also good and the calamari was decent. The biggest let down was the Newtown Pizza. It tasted like nothing. I mean no flavor at all. You'd read the menu description and think that it would be bursting with flavor. I'll just say that it was definitely not prepared the way it's described. If I went back I'd stay far away from their pizza. Other than that, the atmosphere is really nice, especially for a date night and it's very affordable. I had a reservation for four people on a saturday for mg friends birthday dinner and I change the time about 3 times for some important reason and they're so nice to still give me a table. I'm really glad I picked this place. Me and my friends had a great night. We also got seated in the both which is instagramable view. We got some merlot wine bottle $40 and its already enough for the four of us. Its really smooth and relaxing. Get this! For appetizer we ordered their calamari, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside with marinara dipping sauce. Yum! We also got the roasted baby beets salad with some radish, orange, pistachio and goat feta. Wow! Everything in this salad was amazing! The sauce and that goat feta is delicious with all this fruits. I never like goat cheese but this is different. I love fish so we decided to try their crispy skinned fish, seared branzino with baby carrots and some sauce. Perfect! So crispy and the sauce is a bit sweet and salty. Last dish was arugula prosciuto pizza. Delicious pizza! Amazing night and we had so much fun! The birthday girl was so happy. The quality of the service, the food, the decor, the option for outside seating, and the prices are all amazing. Last time I talked about brunch, which is of course great. Now I will talk about dinner. Food; Portuguese Octopus - octopus with jalapeno pesto, crispy nugget potatoes, and rocket arugula. The octopus was soft and we'll cooked. The jalapeno pesto was sour and refreshing and went extremely well with the octopus. I've dreamed of this since eating it. One of the best octopus dishes I have had in the city. Truffled Mac and Cheese - Mac and cheese and bechamel, wild mushrooms, garlic herb crumbs. Another great dish. Loved the truffle. Also one of the best Mac and Cheese dishes in the city. My table would have rated 1/5 stars but granted, it was a gathering of 8 friends and the establishment only had 1 server for our section. We ordered drinks and they came out wrong three times; wrong drinks and drinks not on the rocks when requested. When we paid the bill, the pizza came out afterward. The food took over one hour after the appetizers. My friends tasted the seafood pasta and they said it was water+pasta. My medium rare steak came out well done. This time, I came here on a Friday night for dinner and the food was just as delicious. We had the Portuguese Octopus and the Teres Major Steak. Even though the Octopus was on the appetizer menu, it is a decent sized portion to work as a main dish. It was tender and sizzled in your mouth. We decided to get small plates and share a couple of things entrees - the star was the tuna tartar - we also had muscles (mediocre, there were too many muscles crowding the pot so the broth was inaccessible), crispy salmon and seafood pasta. I ordered the escargos, the bacon wrapped dates, the mac and cheese and the deviled eggs as appetizers. Deviled eggs were okay, they weren't bad nor were they spectacular in any way, pretty average. My friends and I, LOVE this place. I visit NY quite frequently, since I grew up there. Each time my girls and I plan to meet for dinner and drinks, we pretty much always end up here! haha. We always get the burrata, usually one of the pizzas, and you should try the seared fish- soooo flavorful. We sat in one of the nice booths with a curtain for privacy (awesome touch). I had the cucumber "fauxito" to start. It was incredible. Light, refreshing and strong. For apps we had the steak tidbits (for him), the roasted beets and tuna tartare. The roasted beets were served over a creamy goat cheese spread, topped with orange segments and pistachios... the combo of flavors was HEAVEN. Must get these! And the tuna tartare.... was the BEST I've had! The tuna was so fresh and tasty I was loving every bite. My boyfriend loved the steak tidbits as well, they were packed with flavor. For entrees I had the amazing salmon served over black quinoa, spinach and veggies. Once again I was blown away. Every bite was Better than the last!
