No greeting, no water, no service! Had a chance to stop by for lunch at Brass. Me, my husband and our little daughter were sitted right away in dinning area but that was it... Waitress was walking around finishing up with one table and then bringing out food to another table and didn't even look our way or said anything like "I'll be right back with you". No water was served or any service provided what so ever. Menu looked great but after waiting for 10 min and nobody would come to our table we walked out. Very disappointing experience. Would not recommend to anyone or ever be back. PS. I work in restaurant industry and its unacceptable to treat customers like that. read more

I have eaten at The Brass Cafe & Saloon many times for both lunch and dinner and have never had a bad experience. I get myself into a bit of a routine with my appetizer choice and almost always order the Gorgonzola Ale Dip (off of the bar appetizer menu). The few times I do stray from this I regret it, not because the other appetizers are lacking but because I missed an opportunity to eat this dip. As for the Entrees, I have eaten a wide variety of different dishes. A couple of my absolute favorites are the Lamb and The Roasted Red Pepper Ravioli. Both are memorable meals at the least. If you ever have the opportunity to stop in for lunch you will not be disappointed. The service is still great in the middle of the day. It is also a fantastic place to bring clients that you are looking to impress. I almost always get the Pepper Tuna sandwich, although any time I have strayed from this sandwich I have not been disappointed. read more

Came here for lunch and got the crab cake salad, which tasted good and everything was very fresh, but the two crab cakes it came with were very small. About the size of marshmallows, and not jumbo ones either. I was expecting more since it was a meal and not a side salad. The creamy bacon vinaigrette it came with was good. My lunch partner had the turkey club and lobster bisque soup, both were very good and very fresh as well. The atmosphere would be great for a date or intimate gathering-there were lots of high backed red velvet booths and a few tables around. They also have a cute area for outdoor seating. Went to CMU for five years and only ate here once. Such a HORRIBLE decision going to Mountain Town brewery or anywhere else over this place for dates, real dinners, etc. Went her for my wife's masters degree. Everything was amazing, including the beer selection that's 10x better than anything at the brewery. All 5 entrees our party ordered were delicious -- particularly the duck and lamb shank. Suggestion however: if you actually enjoy steak, get the filet sauce on the side. It's pretty much an A1 mixture. read more

We love Wednesday night build your own pasta dish (the red pepper cream sauce is to die for). Thursday night Small Plates are different each week and we attend for a cocktail and three plates. Updating this review from a 5 start to a 4 star because they got rid of my all time favorite dessert- the lemon cake. My family and I loved it and went there today mostly for that reason and then we found out they changed the desserts. I have been to the Brass cafe many times, and never walked out disappointed. Good wine, cocktail, and beer selection (no sparkling wine by the glass). Variety of appetizers to please everybody. bread is always very fresh and special. Love their soup, but it's always a struggle to choose between soup or salad since both are very homemade. Entree is excellent at this price level. Recently had their five-spice pork shoulder and I thought the spice level was just right. After eating at Brass mutiple times I prefer Brass cafe much than Molly's in midland mi. Should call ahead on nights when there is a show in Soaring Eagle Casino. read more

Very good food!! The goat cheese bruschetta was amazing! I also had a Caesar salad with my meal which was ok, my friend got a soup that looked a lot more appetizing. I order the portabella mushroom and it was very good. I was stuff from our appetizer, the bread and the salad so it was hard finishing my meal but it was so good so I overstuffed myself. I did not expect the menu options this place offered. Fingerlings, rosotto, walleye, but there is a whole other menu with classic bar food for the more picky types. I ordered a ribeye with a chili sauce, grilled asparagus, and fingerling potatos. A friend got the walleye with tomato soup and another friend got a bacon cheese burger with steak-cut fries. The fish and steak came out stacked on our "sides." The side salad had fresh greens - NO ICEBERG - pears, pecans, red onion, and a citrus vinegarette. The steak was the most juicy and tender hunk of meat I have ever had. They use all grass fed, local, meat. Zero complaints. We went in at 8 on a Friday night, were quickly seated, service was good, food was amazing, and the tab wasn't bad either. This cafe was very cute and welcoming. I am visiting in the area and to be honest, this small town is a bit of a culture shock compared to most places I've lived. We were in search of a local restaurant, not a chain, and came across The Brass and its lunch menu. Their lunch menu was much bigger than expected! There was a wide selection of sandwiches, salads, and flatbreads. I ordered a chicken and prosciutto sandwich with tomato, spinach, herb cheese, asparagus, and mayo. This sandwich came with a side of one of their soups (or salad, chips, fries, or an apple) and I chose the turkey chili. Overall everything tasted wonderful and it was the perfect serving size. Nice bar and grill, trying hard to be an upscale restaurant. Their menu options are ambitious, but sometimes not executed well. Seafood is delicate and can't just be grilled and slapped together. Stick with the burgers and beer, and they probably do it very well. Service was very good, prompt and friendly. The decor is dated and a bit shabby for their ambition of being a fine restaurant. Excellent restaurant with very good service. While they don't take reservations, you can call ahead for priority seating. I had the rib eye, which was very flavorful and cooked perfectly to our specifications. The potatoes and asparagus were excellent as well. The Brass Café has the best menu in Mt. Pleasant. For dinner, they are constantly changing what is offered but maintain a series of favorites. Everything is prepared with extreme care and much thought is given to providing an appropriate set of sides that compliment your dish. On the bar side, you can't go wrong. Tuesday's build your own burger special is one of the best burgers anywhere in mid-Michigan. The rajun' cajun chicken sandwich is perfectly crafted with a blackened chicken breaks, wonderful tomato focaccia bun, cheese, and a tangy mayo. Pair the menu with a rotating selection of draught and craft beers, a beautiful old pub feel, and the Brass is one of Mt. Pleasant's best! read more

I was so happy when I found this place in the midst of the fast food jungle that is was surrounded with by my hotel. However when my pork chop was delivered to my table I was disappointed, there was no flavor in the meat or in the veggies that it was served with. I had to douse the meal with salt for flavor. Probably a bit pricey for what you get, and not always cooked perfectly, but good for something out of the ordinary. They do have a pretty good craft beer selection and one item that is always a must: the Roasted Garlic Head. It's a creamy, gooey, almost sweet, garlic head served with herbed cream cheese and some excellent French bread. Get one, or you're missing out. In my opinion they removed their best entree years ago. They used to have a Guinness Steak Pie in a bread bowl and it was just awesome... Then they pulled it. After trying the greater majority of the menu, I'm a bigger fan of the bar food menu than their standard dinner menu. It seems to be not only cheaper, but generally better food. Go figure. read more

Great house salad and the employees were all very good. I had the fillet and thought it didn't have much if any kind of a crust on the outside. Also seemed to need more salt and pepper. But fillet is a fairly tasteless cut so it could just be me. The potatoes that came with it were decent, but mashed or something else might have been better. If you order the mac n cheese, ask for it without the Chutney, which was a surprise. Doesn't seem to pair well with the dish overall. I'd also suggest they mix the pork in before they bake it. We arrived on time for our reservation only to be told that it would be a 10-15 minute wait. Usually that wouldn't be a big deal however we needed to be somewhere in an hour and half and thought we might be cutting it close, hence the need for the reservation. While we waited I had a glass of their house red wine... for $7.95. Really? Wow. We finally were seated and noticed that none of the tables around us even had salads....again, with the time crunch it wasn't going to work so we ended up getting up and leaving. I will say the hostess was extremely sweet and busting her butt running around. The bartender however seemed to be inconvenienced by my request for the wine. I also don't understand why there are several reviews that say it has a lot of vegetarian options, obviously those people are not vegetarians. I believe I only saw 2 vegetarian entrees and both were pasta, of course. I would like to come back and give it another try, but for now it's only 2 stars. read more

This is our absolute favorite restaurant, bar none. The food is always fresh, inventive and tasty, and we also appreciate the emphasis on local/regional foods. Small Dishes Night, on Thursdays, is always great fun. The desserts are outstanding, especially the homemade ice creams and sorbets. We've enjoyed the featured beers/wines of the day as well. Disappointed. We read reviews sat outside on patio looking forward to a nice meal. Since we arrived at 4:30, kitchen was not open for dinner. I ordered the Sauvignon blanc from happy hour menu and my husband ordered a Corona off the main menu. He received a corona premier?? It's a 90 calorie beer. When bringing it to us Audi, our waitress's attention we were told it wasn't her fault that's what the bartender gave her. Then she brought the correct Corona. We had the crab cake appetizer which was very good. My entree was the basil capellini with chicken, it was very enjoyable. When I asked where the bread was that accompanied my entree she looked a little put out. She said the cook had not prepared the bread yet but she could try to get another type of bread in a couple minutes: it did arrive a few minutes later and it was warm and tasty. My husband's rib eye steak was good, the fingerling potatoes were cold to the touch. When we called Audi back she didn't really know what to do so we asked for the manager. The manager explained they had recently run out of Corona and he was letting the staff know. He apologized for the cold potatoes. We were given free deserts.
