Venezuelan bakery with a traditional food menu and small pastry offerings baked fresh in-store each day per the clerk. The empanadas looked promising but the guava pastries were puffed up with dark purple guava peeking out. At only $2.35 it was a bargain for just the visual appeal. The fifteen year old bakery had simple decor with no crazy modernization and a relaxed vibe. My pastry was heated up and was thick and the crust was not overly flaky. After attacking the center with an aggressive bite, the guava began oozing out and I was in dire need of a napkin. This was one of the more tasty guavas that I have tried. This restaurant was a complete surprise to us. We assumed it was just a bakery so we had never visited it. When we stopped by recently, we found it had a complete menu of various Latin/Spanish cuisines. We came for lunch and wound up having our leftovers for dinner as the portions were huge. My husband had one of their specials -- a roast pork plate with black beans and white rice and well cooked sweet plantains. He said it was very good. I ordered their steak sandwich. I got everything on it except the onions and asked for the "pink" sauce to be served on the side. Two people could have easily shared this sandwich and still had leftovers. In addition to a seasoned flat steak, there was lettuce, tomato, cheese, and potato sticks. The bread it was on was exceptionally good. I would certainly order this sandwich again. In addition, we tried their guava and cream cheese taquitos. These were good -- small wrapped cigar like dough around a filling -- but there was more cheese than guava. And I was craving a more sweet than savory experience. We both said that we wished we had discovered this place sooner. We would definitely have come here often. Good food at reasonable prices with large portions? A perfect combo. The ambiance is casual, no frills. Service was fine -- you order and pay at the counter. This place is extremely special to me, as i've gone here since i was very young and have always ordered the same thing. the breakfast sandwich with white american cheese and an inkacola. truly chefs kiss material here. I'd give a full 5 stars but i've seen that their sandwiches are much smaller if you order takeout instead of eating inside. They also gave me a free slice of cake for my birthday which was cool. My co-worker would always bring treats from here to us at work. I finally had the chance to come in one day on the weekend. I met my friend for breakfast, and the people here were so nice. We both ordered the ham and cheese omelette that came with toasted bread, cafe con leches, and a ducle de leche eclair. They didn't have the dulce de leche treat I wanted so I just didn't eat the center of the eclair. I'm not a big fan of certain creamy fillings. This might be the northernmost Venezuelan bakery in South Florida (but I heard there's another one that opened up in West Palm). For sure, it's the only one I'm aware of in eastern Broward. And interestingly, during my last visit to Texas, a person there recommended me to visit this bakery. I would not known of this place had it not been for the word-of-mouth (and Yelp, of course ;-)). I ordered a pepito (grilled steak sandwich) and it was huge! They used their french bread instead of something else. They did not chop up the steak. In the end, it was very similar to a pan con bistec. But tastier, bigger, and good. Their arepas are handmade (reportedly they don't use the tostiarepa), and they are popular here too. Reina pepiada (chicken salad stuffing) is available. The arepa llanera was excellent and I was surprised they included the balsamic glaze. Somehow, the mix worked really well. The golfeado with cheese was also tasty and homemade. Better than Don Pan. But I know this is still an acquired taste. And their loaf of pan de jamon (ham bread) was delicious! I would order this again. Friendly staff and workers, very accommodating. Affordable, clean, and ample parking. If this was in Miami, it would definitely compete with the better Venezuelan bakeries. I came here with my Venezuelan boyfriend who loves taking me to new places. we ordered two coladas. On the menu the coladas advertised as $2.25. when we went to pay the price was 5.99 and when my boyfriend confronted the lady she did not let him speak and went on and on about how an espresso is bigger than a colada. In addition she told us to go somwhere else. The point is not about the money it's about the fact that horrible customer service was provided and they are falsely advertising prices and up charging without even telling you then not taking accountability for it. I had breakfast there Saturday, Venezuelan breakfast was so good, I went back today for some Empanadas (beef, cheese, and chicken) and was very delighted with how delicious they all were. I am going to go and get two dozen to take back to California for my family to try. Friendly with a smile service and good food, support these local bake shop so I can have a chance to come back with my family on our next family vacation. Good food but if the owner isn't there - TERRIBLE service. We have been going almost every Saturday for lunch because the arepas are really good. We are loyal customers of this restaurant. Today after having already paid for everything we were headed out the door when I tried the coffee and asked for more milk. The person behind the counter wouldn't give me any. She kept saying that is how their coffee is served, then she said I didn't ask for the right thing, then that I had not asked for the right size. I asked why I couldn't have more milk and she started BERATING me that if I wanted milk I had to pay for it. The woman behind the counter started shouting at me. Shouting! That I had to pay, that milk wasn't free. I said, of course I'll pay for it. I never asked to have the milk for free (although normally if the coffee is too dark and you'd like a little more milk... well, let's just say that I've never been charged for that). But again, I don't mind paying for it, just nicely say "that will be $1". By the way, $1 is what she charged me for adding a little more milk to my coffee. This review may be a little bias, mostly because growing up I had most of this stuff. The shredded beef came with rice black beans and sweet plantains. Typical dish from Venezuela and here it's done the way I remember. Besides the traditional plate this place is a bakery too. They make what most Latin restaurants cant make very well. Ham and cheese ( not the ham and cheese you are thinking about), tequeno, meat pasty... one thing different they came up with here... and only here. They have tequenio with guava... who would have thought this would be so good. Of all of these things mentioned above, the beef pasty is my least favorite. The arepa selection was minimal, the service was really bad (the girl behind the counter was either super new or super bad) so she wasn't helpful. The lady behind the cashier was maybe the owner, but not really attentive or with much personality for this type of business, and she decided to start scolding the young girl in front of me instead of quickly trying to make me (the customer) happy and guide me through my first time there. I've been here a couple of times during my lunch break. Cypress Creek and Andrews has a lot of business-class and working-class folks, and no shortage of places to eat. With such competition, The Bread Shop distinguishes itself with its Venezuelan-style sandwiches and dishes. There are a lot of options ... such that I try something different each visit. I love the breads, particularly toasted. I'm a big fan of the turkey sandwich. It's very clean and relaxing inside, which encourages me to escape work during lunchtime and process my thoughts as I gear up for the second half of the work day. The prices are reasonable and you get a premium sandwich and not a manufactured or pre-processed version. I would compare it to similar places nearby like La Mia Focaccia and Le Vinois Bakery. Pick your cheese and they'll melt it on to the bread for you. All the toppings - lettuce, tomato etc, but definitely stick with the venezuelan tradition and add the potato sticks and the pink sauce as well. An excellent sandwich, and I love sandwiches, so I should know. This is a Venezuelan breakfast/lunch spot. They serve arepas as well as other traditional Venezuelan bakery items. In the past when I had eaten at Bread Shop I had only had the sandwiches, partially because I didn't really know what a lot of other things were, but this time I went with a Venezuelan friend who was happy to introduce us to other parts of the menu. In terms of the "bakery" items we tried the cachitos and the tequenos. The cachito look somewhat like a crescent roll, but had a sweeter less flaky dough and was filled with ham and cheese. The tequenos were what I would call a Venezuelan mozzarella stick and was cheese inside a long skinny bread stick. both these items were great, especially the tequenos dipped in pink sauce. When I think of a bakery/bread shop my mind automatically goes to sweets (and they do have cakes and pastries), but savory items are more my thing, and although I have absolutely no form of comparison I'm really glad I was introduced to these items. Now on to the sandwich. I either get the steak or chicken sandwich with "everything". Everything entails grilled onions, cheese, lettuce, tomato, potato sticks, and pink sauce. They make it on delicious fresh crusty/chewy/soft bread. The sandwich is about $8 and HUGE. I have eaten it in one sitting; however, this time I was reasonable and took half home, and then my brother and I split the other half for lunch the next day...even the half was shareable. Also good to note that the bread holds up well and the leftovers weren't soggy. The veggies on the sandwich are always fresh, and I'm pretty sure I would eat anything that had that pink sauce on it. They have a good selection of popular Latin pastries - although the one pastry I wanted (guava and cheese) they were all out of. :( I chose the guava and cheese bread, but it was no where near the same. And... it turns out to be a fantastic little "Venezuelan and International Bakery" serving all kinds of sweets and savouries and excellent coffee to boot. Once again, we managed to escape the clutches of the chain store. Hallelujah. We ordered a couple of cachitos - ham and cheese - and they offered to warm those up nicely for us. Picture a pastry similar to a hot pocket filled with warm porky ham + gooey melted swiss. Yum! A bit of caution when ordering cafe con leche with sugar - you must like your coffee very sweet. Another time we sampled their arepa with fresh Guayanes Cheese - and the hot, crispy texture of the corn cake was an awesome complement to the mild, creamycold cheese sandwiched within. I came here for lunch on the recommendation of a friend. She posted a picture on Facebook of this amazing looking sandwich stacked with chicken and toppings on this delicious looking bread. After drooling over the photo for a bit I commented that it looked amazing and she told me that it was a must that I come eat here. So naturally my boyfriend and I got in there car and headed there ASAP. We were not disappointed! Turns out that yummy sandwich was their House Special sandwich which is served with either chicken or steak. I got mine with chicken and the hubby had steak. It is served with lettuce, tomato, the yummiest grilled onions and your choice of cheese. All this served on homemade bread. They are, after all, a bakery and bread shop. They also add a special pink sauce, not too sure what's in it but it's a must! We also got a cheese pastry and a savory ham and cheese pastry. Both delicious! (Refer to pictures I posted). All their breads and baked goods are baked fresh, daily on premises. Their dessert case has a wide array of sweet treats that all look amazing. They had a sample plate of some sweet, cinnamony bread (looked similar to monkey bread) we tried it and fell in love. Delicious and not too sweet. I think you can even buy a whole loaf of their bread to take home with you. They have many other items on their menu to choose from from cachapas to arepas. They use to be only a bread shop, now they offer an array of menu items to accommodate the breakfast and lunch crowds. All items sounded delicious on their menu. This food is ok, the staff other than the cashier are very attentive. I went to this place last week and ordered 2 items (arepas). The cashier reiterated my order, gave me the food and charged me. I paid and went to work. When I opened my bag I only had one arepa, so I called and the cashier said I left before she could give me the rest of the order. I told her no, you gave me my order, charged me and that was that. So she said come next time and I'll make sure you get it. She took my name down. So a few days later I go back and mention it to her and she caught an attitude. She tried to blame me for leaving my food behind when in fact it was her that forgot to put my food in the bag. She got frustrated and threw the receipt and pen on the counter. I paid for my entire order and said it's cool! I wasn't going to leave a review, but her attitude made it easy for me to leave this. I came across this place looking for a quick breakfast and I'm glad I did. They service Venezuelan cuisine which is hard to come across in Los Angeles. I ordered the #4 and a small coffee for about $10. Delicious...meat was so soft and succulent, eggs were good, and it came with some sort of cheese and what looked to be toasted south American bread (looks similar to an English muffin). This is a place that you have to hear about thru the grapevine. But, once you go inside during lunchtime- you can see it is a popular spot and it smells oh so good. I head about it from a friend that works nearby and she ordered for me. We went there for the sole purpose of eating a "Cachapa" - a huge (paper plate sized) arepa that is filled with stewed meat (like Ropa vieja) and Queso blanco.... then folded in half and grilled until all the cheese is melted...and topped with more cheese. See pic. It was delicious and filling....that's all I ate. And for under $9, a pretty good deal. Went here for lunch (first and last time) and ordered a very simple chicken salad wrap and tostones to go. I asked them to please make sure to put a side of garlic sauce with the tostones. Paid almost $13.00 for this, paid, checked the bag and the tostones were taped shut so i just figured the sauce was in there. Got back to my office and nope no sauce and they were dry as anything....to the trash they went. Then the chicken salad wrap.....good lord. The chicken salad had a yellow tinge to it which i thought was maybe a spice mixed in (my stomach right now is telling me thats not it) and the lettuce was brown. Yuck.
