Great food and service! Amazing and friendly staff! For not only breakfast but truly a foodie experience!

Our hotel came with a free breakfast, but being on vacation, we kind of overslept. So we headed out for the cute local coffee shop. Then we saw they only took cash - and we hadn't exchanged any dollars. So a quick peek on Yelp and we ended up at The Breakfast Pig. And oh my! What a find! Don't be put off by the exterior - the interior is so charming! We had a very short wait, and were seated by friendly staff. The gal who seated us gave us pointers on the menu. Then so did our actual server. But seriously, we had a difficult time choosing. First off, we love the locally sourced mindset. You can taste the difference. We even ordered an extra side of the ham. The coffee was good and seemed never ending. My son had the Italian Sammy (a huge crepe with fresh strawberries and bananas, drizzled with peanut butter and Nutella). My husband had The Hangover (eggs, toast, sausage, ham, bacon, French toast, and perfectly cooked potatoes). I had the Angela - named for the owner. I am going home and trying to copy this! It had those perfectly cooked potatoes, poached eggs, asparagus, mushrooms, spinach, goat cheese, and a balsamic reduction. Heavenly! The staff was very friendly and seemed truly to enjoy being there. That says a lot about the management. There were families with kids, twenty somethings, older couples and everything in between. Fantastic breakfast joint! If you are in the area, check out this little gem of a hipster breakfast place. The food is delicious, the staff is friendly, and they have poutine on the menu. I mean, do you really need anything else in life? Ok, here's a bit more if you were wondering... -I had the chicken, mushroom, cheese, and spinach crepes and they were fabulous. The serving was huge and very filling. I do wish it came with a side though, the dish is only crepes. Potatoes would break it up the dense-ness a bit. -My hubby had the waffles and loved them. He said they were fantastic! -My kiddo got the kid's breakfast with the pancakes. The cakes were so fluffy and yummy. She actually ate a good bit of her food, which says a lot right there, since she is usually eats like a bird when it comes to breakfast. -The poutine was good but it definitely did not have enough cheese, at least to what I'm used to from past poutine I've had. I'm an American, so my poutine knowledge is limited. I do have a life motto that I live my life to which is, "when in doubt, add more cheese!" -Fun atmosphere and very lively. It's also a bit loud if you go on a crowded day. It has a hipster vibe, but it's not too in your face about it. I live in Austin, so I do know a thing or 2 about hipsters... -The parking lot could use a little love. Lots of pot holes and is just kind of ramshackle. We went on a day when it had rained, so we just had to kind of hopscotch across the lot between the puddles. -I also thought our server was nice when we asked what peameal was. Again, I'm American and do not have nearly enough Canadian food knowledge. I working on it though. She didn't make fun of us at all! Thanks! -The prices are a bit on the higher side but still reasonable considering the quality of the food. If I was in the area, I would probably eat here again. The food simply was NOT good. Portions were big, but that's where it ends. My wife had the "Basic" (eggs, bacon, home fries, and toast). Several strips of bacon were burnt black (no exaggeration), home fries were severely over cooked in old oil (some were partially black), and eggs were barely warm when served. I ordered the "Angela" - what a mistake. It's described sort of as a skillet on a "grilled potato hash". In reality, what you get is a plate full of flavorless potatoes. Literally. Topped with some "mush" made from onions, mushrooms, and spinach (I never saw, or could not distinguish, a single Asparagus spear). A couple of poached eggs on top, then the "cook" douses the entire plate with balsamic glaze. No flavor, nothing sautéed properly, the so-called grilled potatoes were under cooked (some were partially raw), and the eggs were cold when served. I mean, this was garbage. The only saving grace was that our server (short, young lady with dark hair) handled our complaint EXTREMELY professionally, partially comped my meal, and apologized several times. Good but not great. I have been 5 times and at various times of day. It's disappointing when a breakfast place serves Luke warm food. Maybe the menu s/b tighter so execution is better...just a suggestion. I wanted this place to be amazing because I like the fact they source locally. Real home fries would be nice too. Lastly, plz change the seats!!! Those back cushions mounted on the walls are the absolute worst and so uncomfortable. read more

Only giving one star because I couldn't go lower. To begin with..ok it took an hour to seat us (party of five) but considering it was saturday...fine. We got seated and ordered within a couple of minutes. Our drinks (coffee for the adults hot chocolate for the kids) were brought fifteen minutes thereafter and then...nothing. To get refills we had to get another server because ours never reappeared (this was about thirty minutes later). After almost an hour we hadn't received our food so I flagged down yet another server and was told that only half the kitchen was working due to a fire the week before (information not disclosed on our arrival) and that the kitchen was backed up. Ok...sure. A minute or two later another server appeared (again not our original server) and repeated almost verbatim what the second one had told us. My sister informed them I was diabetic and my blood sugar was dropping (it was) to which the server said they would check to see how much longer. They never came back to the table and seemed to go out of their way to ignore us. During this whole time several tables had been seated AND served. We decided to just leave. The worst part was this was the first chance I had had in a while to see my sister and nieces in a while and this place had been highly recommended to me. WORST SERVICE EVER!!! read more

Highly recommended breakfast option while in town. While the patio doesn't have a great view and is loud with traffic from the main road. Patio is spacious and shaded. Server was great and the fresh flowers at each table was a nice touch. Two adults and one child: Piggy pancakes with strawberries, fresh cream, brown sugar butter and maple syrup for the boy. Whitefish crab cakes, broiled egg with hollandaise with home fries. Basic pig, scrambled eggs, pea meal bacon, gluten free toast and home fries. Two coffees and a white milk came out to $50. A bit pricey but would visit again as a treat as the menu had lots of choice and has gluten free bread. read more

Great food and location! Such an original idea for a breakfast spot. SOOO MANY unique dishes to choose from, including the monthly specials. We had the Angela, the Mother Clucker and the Eggs Benny on Mac and Cheese in skillet. WOW. AWESOME service and lots of hot sauces to choose from. Coffee was decent for a breakfast spot and girls were good at keeping an eye on our table throughout our meal. I would definitely be going back. I was in town performing as part of their Fringe Festival. I found this establishment on the yelp site ... and because I love pigs - I had to go. There are a number of piggy items Through out the bar area. The service was very friendly and attentive. The menu was varied and delightful in of itself. There food was simply divine. If I lived there, I would go often. I recommend EVERYONE passing through Sault Saint Marie go to enjoy a delicious brunch like I had! BRAVO! read more

We stopped at this restaurant after being recommended by a friend. After two days of camping and driving, we showed up starving and ready to eat. We were seated inside and ordered quickly. The food took a substantial amount of time to come before only ONE of the aide orders from my breakfast arrived (waffles from the "hangover breakfast"). I waited another 20ish minutes before the rest of my breakfast came out. My boyfriend still hadn't received his food so I waited another 15 minutes until we were told that the waffle iron wasn't working. By this time, my food was cold from waiting so we told the waitress we weren't interested in picking and waiting for an entire other breakfast order. She talked to her manager before coming back and telling us we were "free to go". You'd think for a place this highly acclaimed and busy that the service would be better. Also, the big breakfast I ordered was a big let down. Flavourless dish at best. Wouldn't recommend this place. read more

Its our first time in Sault St Marie. We had a late breakfast here and im so glad we did. Their menu is unique and assorted. There's something there for everyone.
