I visited on my last morning of vaca in downtown Austin due to craving a hearty bagel. It was easy to find from my hotel and primely located across from target on 5th street. The signage only says "brew & brew" so I was confused but soon confirmed that I was at the correct place. I know I desired the bagel with smoked salmon so I ordered it but was not impressed. The bagel was cold, flavorless and the smoked salmon was flavorless. I love a good culinary concoction but this just kissed the mary. It was pretty yet did not taste amazing. Easily one of my favorite places to get coffee in all of Austin. Tucked away just between the bustling, boozy part of downtown and the more interesting east side, it's a calm and thoughtfully spaced out hub for caffeinating, conversation, reading, and/or working. It's a regular go-to for when my friends (both old and new) want to meet up to hunker down on creative projects, catch up with each other, or both. The atmosphere is relaxed and there are plenty of seating options - outdoor tables and rail seating, the main indoor part (bar seating, individual tables with high seats against the wall, 4-seater communal tables, and booth seats), the adjacent room with more tables and cozy couches. Also, huge selection of drinks that fall along the spectrum of where you want to go with your energy - cranking up or winding down. They offer coffees, teas, beer, ciders, and wines. If you don't know what to get, the staff is very helpful and will kindly answer questions you have about the drinks. If you're hungry, they have breakfast tacos in the morning (until they sell out). They've partnered up with Rosen's bagels and have a menu full of options for the way you want your bagel served; plain, with cream cheese or various types of schmears, or as a full on a sandwich with things like lox, pickled onions, etc. Coffee is consistently good. I drink the whole spectrum - drip, lattes, cappuccinos, cortados, espresso, etc. I just love variety. The baristas here know their craft (and can talk about the coffee knowledgeably too), and so all the espresso drinks always come out beautifully done (both aesthetically and taste-wise). The cortados done here are some of the smoothest I've had in Austin. Lastly, I've grown incredibly attached to the place because of Theresa, who is the sweetest, most beautiful soul and always brightens my day with her warmth. This hidden gem is conveniently located near my new apartment! It's a great place to work, have an intimate chat, meeting, or have a brew or... brew! ;) They have these amazing sea salt and rosemary bagels amongst other yummy offerings! I got mine toasted with some plain cream cheese, but there were other flavors as well as a vegan option! I'll have to try the vegan cream cheese next time I stop by. I believe they used Cuvée or maybe Merit coffee. If I'm wrong, I'm terribly sorry, but it was up that ally! The coffee was delicious, strong, and ready in a jiffy. While staying in eastside Austin on vacation, I made a point of visiting every independent coffee house in walking distance. I made it to five in all. Wright Bros. Brew + Brew was the clear winner! They had an extensive menu, with lots of choices -- a very big factor for me. My vanilla latte and my everything bagel were delicious. The staff was warm and friendly. I have to say this is my favorite hot latte in town since my days at UT! Don't know why I haven't written a review yet. Shocking!!!! Been coming here I think close to when it opened and East Austin wasn't such an insane hive of condos and activity. When the lot across the street was dirt and manned by a cute asian man! Love Flat Track coffee beans and when I found out it was the same owners I was sold. Parking now it's busier can be a little bit of a pain but I'll still make my way there every time I'm in town at least once! Love the tiny precise cup and the vanilla latte is always perfect. Honestly this was one of the better pulled shots of espresso that I have had in a while. It was from Burundi. It was lovely! Clean, fruity, acidic. This is one of my favorite coffee houses on the east side. It has a lot of good seating and outlets, so you'll have an easy time working from here. If you're a coffee drinker, their drip coffee has free refills too. The other great part of B&B is they have ~25 beers on tap, mostly local, and always changing. So you can be here all day and transition right from working to happy hour. They have a good happy hour from 4-6 as well, so it'll still be an inexpensive day. And they're dog friendly! Truly awful service. Both my boyfriend and I had to repeat our orders three times and I watched them begin to make the wrong drinks until I intervened with what we actually ordered. Now I am not a leading expert on hipsters but it seemed like I had stumbled into one of their nests. Right when you get up the wooden steps and walk past the fabulously dressed bearded people with beanies and hole earrings you enter a beautiful wooden bar. Mahogany perhaps? African spruce? I don't know I'm not a leading expert on trees either. Anyways despite every available seat being taken up by what appeared to be students I got to order quickly. As you might have noticed I am not a leading expert on much of anything and least of all coffee so I told the cashier/bartender/brew master to give me whatever he liked the most and I added some chocolate because thats how I do. So he went ahead and pushed my order through. I overheard him saying to give me a mocha latte and so that must be what I got. They call me Sherlock. It only took a few minutes before it came out and it was beautiful! They made me a little leaf and I sat outside on the patio looking at Austin on a rainy day. Made me feel some kind of way but it wasn't for too long because I finished my cup pretty quickly. If I lived closer to the area I would probably come here quite often. Welp, let's just say we took 3 sips and ended up dumping it in a nearly trash can outside. It was awful. Even after stirring the soy milk that settled at the bottom, it ended up tasting even worse. Brews, Brews and cool views. The people watching potential at this spot is great. You sit above the street, with all the seating facing out. It's great to see the wildlife of the East Side - beanies, bikes, and beards. Their beer selection is always evolving and their customer service is outta sight. Sometimes the East can get pretentious, but this place missed the memo. The bartenders and baristas are personable and friendly. They do get backed up sometimes and ordering directly from the bar is awkward, but overall the ordering process is smooth. They don't have much to eat, a variety of Kolaches and snacks, but with the beer and coffee choices, there is always something new to try. read more

Wright Bros Brew & Brew is located in a mixed use building off East 6th. The patio is dog friendly and covered making it a nice place to enjoy an ice coffee or beer on a nice Austin day. The decor is industrial meets school house, from the hanging metal lights to the gym lockers. It is evident in their drink offerings that they support local. They have an excellent Texas beer lineup in both draft and bottle. Their roasts are from Flat Track Coffee (Austin), Sightglass Coffee and Ceremony Coffee. Besides beer and coffee they also serve ciders, Zhi tea and have a small food menu. I am somewhat picky about ice coffee and their's is a bit too bitter than I prefer but still OK. They cater to both the morning and late night crowd as they open at 7am and close at midnight. Some big pluses: Reliable WiFi. All syrups made in house. Topo Chico! They sell beer and cider to go. Ample free parking across the street (except for Saturday and Sunday nights). read more

The prices on beer are fantastic, running between $4-6. They give the option between ordering a half and full pint as well. The selection is pretty wide, and they had great stuff during my latest visit (ABW's Heavy Machinery Wet Hop IPA and STBC's Warlock), so I expect there to be a strong selection whenever I come in. I've yet to try the food, but the offerings look great. They have charcuterie! C'mon. That's winning. Easily my favorite spot for beer and coffee in the east side. read more

Brew and Brew has the same open layout like the old Progress coffee, and they also sell coffee just like Progress did (Handsome and Flat Track coffee are the features though they plan to also offer a rotating coffee selection). But don't be fooled, this place isn't just a coffee shop. Beyond the delicious caffeine fix you can expect to find here are 39 beers on tap and beyond that cans and bottles of beer (as of 10/1 they are still in soft opening and are working on getting all the cans and bottles in stock). This is a real beer lovers paradise. In addition they have a food menu that includes simple stuff like sandwiches and salads. I tried their brisket sandwich and it was really great. You can get sides like pickles or pita chips with the sandwiches. The food is made by a local catering company and is very tasty. The food is counter order so if you want to bring your laptop and use their wifi you don't have the pressure of holding up waitstaff. Just like with the old Progress coffee you will find the patio area a nice place to lounge or get stuff done. read more

With so many coffee/beer options in downtown and east Austin these days, it's hard to stand out. Walk 2 blocks in any direction and you'll run into some strangely decorated, oddly named coffee house/bar filled with opinionated connoisseurs . The Brew & Brew skips all that. This place is made by people who love coffee and beer. With an extremely clean, warm environment, the Brew and Brew takes a "less is more" approach to their craft: and I love it. With no loud artistic distraction, their attention to detail shines. The interior is notably clean. They paid close attention to natural lighting, openness, and space. They have incredible reclaimed wood stools, a beautiful white oak bar, and an abnormally minimalist tap system. The place is beautiful. I overheard a barista talking about how the espresso machine is getting an upgrade, and moving below the bar. Some rare, new approach that hides the bulk of the boilers, and minimally exposes two group heads. I'll be back to see it... And the important part: The coffee is superb. I recommended a cortado. I don't know how they do it, but the espresso is as good as I can remember (competes with Intelligencia [LA], blue bottle, and sightglass [San Francisco]) I glanced over a food menu (didn't order food this time), and noticed a short list of Easy Tiger baked goods and some sandwiches. Outsourced local food? Brilliant. The stick to what they know. After a long and relaxing chat with some friends, we switched to beer sampling (it is Austin Beer Month). The bartender/barista gave us a rundown on some local favorites. She gave me a few 6 oz sours, a barley mash, and an "all day IPA". Great variety. I loved them all. As we left, I got the bill. For 4 of us, we spent less than $60 in 3 hours. I couldn't believe it. I felt like I was ripping them off. Tip heavily. Yes, I will be back. read more
