We were only in Blackstone for training so we weren't familiar with the area. After making out way down the only Main Street in town we happen to find this out of place brew/coffee place. We decided to be optimistic and See what it had to offer. It's a little awkward when you walk in, but once you figure out that it's "seat yourself" it's not bad. Very large venue with tons of seating. The decor is fun and inviting. We had a party of six and it was easy to get a nice table. Drinks were inexpensive, but we didn't know they didn't sell liquor, not a big deal. Food was excellent. We weren't sure of the quality since there was such a large menu, but we were all very pleased with our meals. Our waitress was Amber and she was very pleasant and attentive. My soldiers and I were seated quickly and orders were taken shortly after. One soldier ordered the Fiesta Mac & Chicken, without pico. And the other, a buffalo chicken sandwich without ranch dressing. Food took a little over an hour to come out. We never received an update until the food came out. Upon bringing the food out we could visibly see one of the plates had incorrect toppings. Brandi, the waitress took it to the back and eventually brought it back to the table stating 'hopefully we got it right.' When my soldier started eating she could tell that the pico had been scraped off of her meal with pico being left behind. She didn't want to send it back again seeing that it had already been over an hour. She brought out another one of my soldiers plate shortly after and it also had ranch that he specifically asked to not be on his sandwich. When we were finally able to get her attention, she came over seemingly irritated. He let her know his concerns and she took the plate, walking off saying 'Jesus Christ'. She proceeds to bring the same sandwich back with ranch residue on the bottom where they also put buffalo sauce to attempt to cover the ranch. I could go on and on about the poor service and the quality of the food. Her attitude was very rude and off putting. Management was too busy cooking to come and speak with us. I would hope Management was not sending that quality of food out. 0/0 I do not recommend. This evening's performance doesn't deserve one star. read more

I've been here 5 or 6 times and like any bar/restaurant the quality of service goes down when they get busy. I only experienced this once. For the most part people are friendly and take care of me. Overall I like the beer choices which is unusual for a small town. Lot of eclectic and unique local VA beers. A little pricey but still not that bad. So kudos! The food is a step above typical bar fare. Burgers and wings are good bets. Nachos were not very impressive. For a small town brewpub that caters to military and locals it's very popular and I enjoy not having to drive all the way to Richmond for good beer and internet. Nice restaurant with fabulous burgers, best in town. The major problem here is the help. You wait forever once you take a seat until a waitress arrives at your table, even when they are not busy. Once you get your drink order in and it's delivered, it seems forever before someone comes back to take your order. Then once you do order it is another 30 minutes to 40 minutes until your food arrives. We love their burgers , but only go back in once in a great while because of the slow service. read more

I love their lattes and they make a great grilled cheese panini. During the day they can be rather busy especially with the military base a few miles away. I think they are short staffed so if you have to wait a little while, be patient. It's worth it. Tonight, several friends and I, visited this wonderful establishment. All of us sat at the bar and were immediately greeted by our bartender Shane-ah-haha. I ordered a Miller Lite bottle. To my dismay, Shane-ah-haha advised me that I had received the last bottle that was in stock. After switching to Bud Light I had grown hungry. Shane-ah-haha suggested the Fiesta Mac & Cheese. After waiting entirely too long, I found myself overjoyed with my selection. The Mac & Cheese was delightful! The chicken however was chewy and of low quality. The food was delicious so it's a shame the service wasn't so great. I actually had to leave and come back to this place within 10 minutes and both times I didn't feel welcome. Aside from the staff not wearing masks, I had to grab my own menu and was in the establishment for 20 minutes without anyone offering even a glass of water while I decided what I wanted. I left to get my mom's order and when I came back still nobody even glanced in my direction to take my order. First of all let me start by saying I hardly ever leave reviews unless the experience/ food is outstanding or awful. Secondly I'm not a local so I'm not sure what people out here expect or are accustomed to. I was in Blackstone on training at Ft. Barfoot and a buddy of mine and I decided to grab a much needed calorie packed meal. We settled on burgers and came to the Brewhouse. We knew they had three stars but figured even a joint with three stars would still be a decent burger. We were mistaken. We started with a couple appetizers: fried pickles and Brussels sprouts, and a couple beers. All of these were excellent. We orders two burgers one was the Greek themed burger with lamb and my friends was the Mac and cheese burger. After waiting a short bit the burgers came. So no issues with the timing or service. They were huge and we we're stoked. After cutting mine in half I saw that it was way beyond medium rare which is what the both of us ordered. I made it through half of one patty and cakes time of death. Not only was the burger fit for slapping around the ice at the next NHL game, it was in no stretch of the imagination seasoned. No salt. Nothing else that would lead me to believe they did anything more than shape a hunk of beef into a patty and slap it on the grill. The buns were cold. Fresh out of the fridge apparently. Plain. The lamb in my particular burger could have made it through a war it was so salty. The texture? Cheap deli meat. Cucumbers slices so thick I had to pick them off and eat them individually. My friends burger was not much better. Only he called it after two bites. Mac and cheese was unseasoned. Cold bun. Not very cheesy for Mac and cheese. They got fancy with the spiral noodles but screwed up the rest of the burger. When the server asked if we wanted boxes we both said no. This is not a meal I wish to revisit and cook even further. She seemed puzzled so maybe this review will shed some light. I can't comprehend how you so artfully present a huge portion of your menu but fail to make it even a little bit edible. Best thing about this place is the appetizers, beer and fries. The entire restaurant is enormous, but with this food I'd be surprised to see more than two or three other unlucky diners in here at one time. read more

You can count on brew house for bad service and underwhelming food! Last time I came, it took over 20 minutes for the server to provide us with water. The menu has great drinks named "Dirty Bong Water" and they are often out of many of the menu items. This is a great restaurant in small town Blackstone. I had wonderful, attentive service and the food was great! I had the bacon, avocado, ranch salad with chicken and tater tots on the side. The buffalo chicken dip appetizer was great, and the homemade pita chips that came with it are my new favorite! The restaurant is beautiful, with awesome window displays and a little seating area outside. It has a full bar with a ton of different beer selections. Can not rate food or beer as I did not have any. I was seated and waited over 30 minutes. In that 30 minutes no one talked to me or even acknowledged my presence so I left. I know restaurants can get busy, and I understand having g to wait. But, the restaurant was half full, if that and multiple staff members walked buy and was not concerned about asking me if I was ready or needed anything. I am disappointed. We all ordered the same thing off the express menu and it took 90 minutes to serve us undersized, cold soft tacos and fries. The waitress delivered our empty glasses, then disappeared. This is more of a hangout for a group of locals who are the only ones the waitresses acknowledge, i think it is a group of their friend because most the waiters hangout out at the table with the same group of people every time i have come here. This has been a favorite spot for my family since they opened. They recently updated the menu and WHEW trust me....order the Mac && cheese chicken. Seriously. The chicken was juicy and seasoned perfectly, and their white macaroni and cheese is always a hit. A large serving for me, so the second chicken breast (yep, you get two) became lunch the next day...and it was just as good! Hubby got the meatloaf, a long-time favorite of his. My son goes for the burgers and it's hard to go wrong there. My personal favorite is the Smoke Stack; brisket on a burger sounds crazy but it was insanely good. Went three nights this week. Expect bad service when they're busy and an 18% "Service Charge" included on your bill. Beer selection is decent, but the choice of craft drafts is a bit eccentric. Reaching for high ABV and gimmicky type beers I wouldn't normally want to have a full pour of. The beer list isn't kept up to date with beers they don't have in stock listed. Food is hit or miss. Good when they're slow. Bad when they're busy. They closed the restaurant with a good number of patrons hanging out still wanting to spend money and drink beers. This place is awful. I've been 3 times now wanting to give it a fair shot. Last night we stood at the bar for 15 minutes waiting for a beer. There were maybe 10 people in the whole place so it's not like they were slammed. After finally ordering it took the "bartender" another 5 minutes to find which tap she needed, and then another 5 minutes to run a credit card. The pool table was missing a ball and 1 of the 3 sticks was missing an end cap. We left after our first drink. Awful service. They were out of all cuts of steak at 6:30 on a Saturday. Had to ask twice for my sweet tea. Brought out replacements for our fries because they were out of those too, without even asking if that was ok. The fish was RAW in the middle and had to be sent back and the waitress asked if we would like it to be dropped back in the fryer (after we had eaten part of it). We didn't get a replacement because the food took 45 minutes to be served in the first place. We then got charged for the fish and they couldn't figure out how to correct my credit cart receipt and wanted me to sign a black credit cart receipt. I will no go back. read more

We moved to the front of house to sit with friends and listen to the band and there were no servers at the bar or on the floor. Overall: Great atmosphere, amazing food - literally every bite we all kept saying wow. Perfect temperature, perfect seasoning, excellent presentation. Spotlessly clean and the decor was simple but very classy. The layout is well thought out and not crowded. This place could easily accommodate any range of clientele. I could see this as being a great spot to grab a quick bite, business luncheon, have a date night, or hold a wedding reception. There were even power and usb power outlets at our table - nicely done y'all. Literally my only complaint is that the Verizon cell signal in the building was horrible and (although I didn't actually ask them) I don't think there was wifi. I could be wrong on that one. Regardless, that's hardly a valid part of this review, the signal was bad outside too, lol. Food: We ordered Brew House Shrimp for an appetizer. Crispy fried popcorn shrimp tossed in their "boom boom" sauce served on a bed of romaine with diced cucumber. Fried food tossed in any sauce is tricky because it can easily become a soggy mess if the breading isn't perfectly crispy or the sauce is left on the food for too long before serving. It was *perfect*, we practically inhaled it, and the leftover cucumber/romaine "salad" that was left was lightly sprinkled with leftover sauce. It made a great palette cleanser. Try anything that comes with the house pita chips - they are excellent. They were very accommodating for the vegetarian in our group and allowed substitution on one of the "Big Salad" menu items we ordered. By the way, they're not kidding, the salads are huge. The toasted bread on the club sandwich was so good I think it should be on the menu by itself as an appetizer. Oh, and order anything that comes with the house fries - hot, crispy perfection. I can't wait to go back just to try more of the menu. Menu & Pricing: There's an art to having a diverse menu with lots of options from an inventory stocking perspective. Most restaurants with this many options have to charge higher prices just to cover having so many raw products available at any moment. Pricing is on point, the portion sizes are generous. There are high dollar items for those who are splurging but plenty of $10-$15 entrees as well. $1.50 domestic bottles and 1/2 price beverages for the girls on Thursday nights. 3 of us had multiple rounds of cocktails and beer, appetizers, entrees, and desserts - the bill was $90. Can't beat it. Service: Justine was so attentive we thought she was the owner. She was there at all the right moments and we never waited a second on anything. She also did a great job of not hounding us to death. Words I'd use to describe her and her service would be: warm, kind, welcoming, attentive, and accommodating. This isn't a place where the other staff members ignore you either. When the other server attending the table next to us walked by she cleared dishes, asked how we were, etc. - they are a team. I can tell that they have a "hot food walks" policy. When food is ready to go out - it goes out - right now - because although it might be inconvenient for the employee passing by - it's the best thing for the customer. We really appreciate that as patrons. Entertainment: Live music that was the right volume as to hear it but not blow you out of the restaurant. The web site says Live Bluegrass Every Thursday Night at 7pm, but instead there was a female duet who played acoustic covers of some pretty challenging classic rock tunes. They were obviously new but the vocalist has some power, held pitch well, and the guitar player is quite talented and provided some nice harmonies. They need one more guitar and/or bass and somebody on the bongos and they will be awesome. Regardless, the layout of the space and the volume of the music allows for the folks in the restaurant to hear each other easily while the folks at the bar got a more direct show. It works well. We have a new place to enjoy and will be back frequently. read more

I am a huge coffee person. The 1 time I went here the americana was perfect. Times after that Coffee has been so-so. There is no Crema on top of the coffee. Not sure if the girls need trained how to use the machine ? I will drive 30 minutes to get a great cup of coffee and just sit and a nice atmosphere with friends. My mom got a hot chocolate that came out completely cold. The business has good food and I really like going here and I want them to succeed as there is not many options around this area. If the coffee is not addressed I probably will not be compelled to make the drive read more
