I absolutely love The Brig. It's a casual outdoor atmosphere and a fun vibe. It definitely attracts a fun group of people which I like. Service is usually good unless it's busy, in which case, you may have to wait a bit for service which is understandable. There is nothing special about their beer or drink menu. The Brig is a decent beer garden in this area. My boyfriend and I checked out The Brig because some other of our frequent DC haunts were overcrowded. We managed to find seats at The Brig without too much waiting. The beer selection is ok, but the food is just decent. If you want legit food, I'd check out Dacha or the Garden District. The crowd was also on the younger side. Not sure if we'd choose to go back specifically, but would swing by if we were in the area again. Will add that the bartenders were quite nice! read more

This must be a popular spot! This place was packed! After leaving the Nationals baseball stadium, my wife and I wanted to avoid getting caught up in any traffic around the stadium for the game. We managed to find a couple of seats at the bar, and much props to the bartenders for being so attentive. There was a nice variety of beer available, and for this being a beer garden, they had plenty of German beer along with some domestic beers too. They even had the liter stiens, half literally and smaller glasses. Fortunately this is right by the interstate and getting an Uber isn't so hard, so I highly recommend it unless you'd rather walk it off to another location. read more

I'm a HUGE fan of the Brig -- a new beer garden convenient to 8th ST, The Yards and on my way to Nats park. I loved this venue -- it's completely outdoors (hence "beer garden") and offers bar as well as picnic table style seating with large umbrellas to provide shade. Perhaps best of all is that dogs are welcome so bring your friendly Fido when you come to swill some beer. The brig also offers mixed drinks -- even top end lables -- as well as a fine selection of local, domestic and import brews. We also ordered salads which were obviously pre-made but still fresh and delicious. There is a grill on premises and Brig staff were cooking up some type of sumptuous fare -- not sure what but it did smell delicous. I've lived in Navy Yard for 15+ months now, and finally made it to the Brig for the first time a couple weeks ago. (The visit felt obligatory with the kickoff of Oktoberfest.) Let me just say that I'm super disappointed in myself as a fellow Yelper and overall foodie/bar & restaurant goer that it took me THIS LONG to check it out. I love the Brig! This bar is an open concept restaurant, it's a shame I was there in winter because the porch had been sectioned off. The bar was long and covered with TVs, which is great for sports. It is serious about being a German bar, importing its German style meats from a local family run business, they are delicious, best German food I have had stateside. Happy hour has some good deals including appetizers and beer, which lead to my order of nachos with pulled pork. The portion size is enormous, feeding 4 easily, but it's not German so I was fairly disappointed. I should have known better. If you are looking to drink with friends, live music, watch the game, do yourself a favor and come when the weather is warm. read more

We followed all necessary COVID guidelines, waiting 1.75 hours for a table, we were not sat near each other and when we walked across the restaurant with our masks, the bouncer physically removed members of our party. We asked to speak to members of management, and they were rude and disrespectful. I work in the restaurant business and will never recommend The Brig. read more

Quickly became one of my favorite spots for low key drinks with friends during covid. The tables are spaced out, they are super covid compliant, they have est lamps and pits to keep you warm, and the service is tremendous. You order from your phone and your beer arrives in 10 seconds! Maybe it's just not my scene, but this bar is 'okay'. They have a nice beer selection but they're pricy. The women's bathroom was clean yet somehow a total disaster at the ripe hour of 930 on a Friday night. At least they put out toilet paper. The live music was excessively loud (I feel old saying this but honestly it was). The bar, which is mostly outdoor seating, is not large enough to warrant the volume in use. Having walked by the Brig Beergarden but never stopped by until recently, I knew that I had to come here for a beer. DC has a few beer gardens, including the likes of Dacha and Midlands, which I have been to. I think this one is better than both. I want to share what a great experience we had hosting my husband's 40th birthday party at The Brig this weekend. We've loved The Brig ever since they opened for the unique, family friendly atmosphere. It was high on the list when I started thinking where I should plan my husband's party. I reached out to Cortney in March, not knowing how fast places book up. She was incredibly responsive - almost always getting back to me within an hour, including my initial request. I was pleasantly surprised to find out how easy it was to reserve a large area of the patio for no deposit or minimum bar tab required. She made it easy with The Brig's awesome catering menu and answered every single question I had. Another great thing about The Brig: they are completely flexible with how many people you host. We were expecting 50 and ended up with about 35-40. We had plenty of room and knew we could expand to other areas of the beer garden if needed. Yesterday, the bartenders, managers and kitchen staff could not have been more accommodating. They moved tables for us and were quick to respond to requests. Carlos, on the kitchen staff, greeted me personally and made sure I knew we could get anything we needed. The bartender/manager (I'm sorry I never got your name!) was welcoming and made everything easy. Clearly I am happy we hosted his party at The Brig! We're grateful for The Brig's presence in our neighborhood and highly recommend it to anyone for a special event. read more

Disclosure, I've worked at dive bars twice as busy as the Brig and tonight they were full. I walk in at 10:10pm and immediately order a beer and ask the bartender for a food menu (I've ordered food before here, later than this I'll add). He tells me the kitchen is closed so I move on. I ask a food runner and server if the kitchen is closed and they both tell me no, it's open till close (one directly asked the kitchen). One minute later I ask a second bartender for a food menu and he hesitates and then tells me also that the kitchen is closed. I don't like confrontation in front of other guests so I politely hide my hungry rage and retreat. I really hope a manager sees this because there is nothing worse than lazy bartenders making their own jobs easier at the sake of their guests. As an industry member I was previously proud to have never tipped below 40%...but this place has changed that for me and it really makes me mad. Next time I'll go to Wunder Garden. This is the perfect place to come after work or on a Saturday afternoon. They have a pretty good tap selection, bottle selection and wine selection. Everything is outdoors and open. They have 4 or 5 big screen TVs that were all on a different sports channel. They are very dog friendly, which is great if you love dogs! I think there for 4 dogs there when I was there. We went for a work get together. Great outdoor space in these Covid times. They have a large selection of drink and food options. Ordering was a breeze. While many restaurants now have digital menus, they have contactless ordering. It was so simple. Love if. Only recommendation is to make a reservation or be there early. Incredibly rude staff. My group was sitting at a reserved table and this INCREDIBLY rude waitress came up to us and just said "you have to go, get up." After the people who reserved the table said that we could sit there with them (bench style beer garden) she came back up and told us we had to leave. I am an LSU fan and have given this bar a lot of business over the past 2 years every Saturday night during football season. And this is not the first time that this server has been incredibly rude. Beer garden time is back! With that being said, time for me to catch up on some activity from last fall: the Brig. It's such an odd space; an empty lot on "hot" Barracks row, near the old Latrobe Gate to the Navy Yard (thus the brig reference). I was sure it would be developed (condos?), but no! Not sure if they own or lease, but if you're not going to build now, this is a temporary land use decision I can get behind! The owners have put some money into improving the property; they've built a bar that serves 20 drafts more than half of which are German (a lot of Fest beers on my fall visit, but presumably this will change with the season since they had plans to put up a tent and stay open all year) The lineup included Jailbreak Infinite IPA, DC Brau Corruption, 3 Star Lemon Citrus Saison. But for those not in a beer mood, they also have a full bar. Seating is on picnic tables and food tends towards beer drinking bites (brats, pretzels, tacos, etc). Sure to be a hit pre and post-Nats games. Don't miss the giant Bavarian flag-clad lion out front. read more

I am obsessed with beer, I am obsessed with Germany, and I am obsessed with German Beer. There are many biergartens in the DC Metro Area, and this one is among my favorites. 1. Location: being in a more newly renovated area of Navy Yard, there's plenty of parking! 2. Beer: unlike some other area biergartens, the beers-on-draft list is hefty, giving you a wide variety to try. Not only is the quantity great, the quality is, too. They don't just have German-inspired American beers, they have actual beer from Germany (a plus!). 3. Space: though crowded on weekends, the venue is spacious. 4. Food: the food is not amazing (what do you expect from a biergarten, really), but they've got a bigger variety than most biergartens -- that is, more than just large pretzels and sausages. But being honest, I don't really go to biergartens for food -- I go for beer, and the food is just there to make sure I don't get completely plastered. Go here for a good, chill day or night with friends or co-workers -- especially if you like beer! read more

Exactly what you'd expect is what you get. Nice, solid Biergarten with friendly staff. This is a solid spot with a good menu and plenty of beers on tap. The menu is much better (in my opinion) than most other Biergartens. They have the usual fare for a place like this but they also have burgers (along with other non-traditional items). The burger was mighty tasty and hit the exact spot for me. With the option of either chips or potato salad how could one go wrong? They also have a decent selection of domestic beers in the can for $5. I like that. They have the nice beers on tap but sometimes you just want a miller lite or bud light on a hot day before the Nats game. Kudos to them for having a little something for everyone. Been here twice now and each time I've thoroughly enjoyed it. The beer list is extensive but each one I've had was great. Great location for this outdoor beergarden. They've got great brews on tap and in the bottle, and the food looked amazing. I'm going to have to head back for that. Their happy hour specials give pretty good deals, and they have decent whiskeys behind the taps. The fact that it's easily walkable, dog friendly, and the staff was on top of things (ask for Patrick behind the bar) make this a go-to spot.
