Brown Lantern is a classic tavern and ale house. They have a large bar, dining tables in the bar area and a separate family section that is less "lively." Features a full bar with cocktails and a great beer selection. Ambiance is fantastic, with dark wood and interesting lighting and decorations. I'll be honest - it smells like dirty bar from time to time, so I'd say cleaning could be improved. The menu has something for everyone. Their burgers are awesome, the tater tots are creative and delicious. I tried the steak tacos the recently and they were very tasty, although the tortillas were slightly over toasted, resulting in a bit more crunch than you'd expect. Service is usually good. The bartenders handle table service, so you could end up with more than one person waiting on you rather than having a dedicated server. This is a cozy restaurant in the beautiful town of Anacortes with a really nice atmosphere. They have a good beer selection, which I enjoyed, and the overall vibe feels relaxed and welcoming. We received friendly service throughout our visit and the food was delicious as well, especially the onion rings. We especially enjoyed the fish and chips along with a few other dishes we ordered. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared. They also have outdoor patio seating, which is perfect during the summer and makes the experience even better on a nice day. Is there any service or were we just being ignored? ‍ Walked in, waited around for a bit while the staff did their thing. There are no signs that said "please wait to be seated" or "seat yourself" either, but after waiting a bit we thought we'd seat ourselves and the service would come to us. That never happened, so this feels like we were being ignored. It's unfortunate though, because it seemed like a chill place to grab some food. I asked if everything was fresh. She said yes. But I suspect it had been on a long truck haul from wherever veggies come from in the winter. We stopped here for lunch on a Sunday when visiting our kids. The place was quiet. Its got a worn in feeling. Cozy, worn booths, old wooden tables. Service was a little slow, but our server was happy and easy to talk to. We ordered drinks from an mixed drink, hot cocoa, hot cider, and sodas. All delicious. The soup of the day was a beef stew that come highly recommended. One of the kids ordered a bowl and ate every drop. She said it was really good. One kid got the pulled pork sandwich which was messy but delicious. She had to take off some of the pork as it was loaded! The burgers were also messy but delicious. Fries were plentiful and crispy. Taking the Guemes Island ferry for the first time and gave BLA a try. The service was impressively fast. I sat immediately and had the Pepper Melt. I loved the creamy horseradish on the side. The Brown, as we locals (and semi-locals) like to call it, is an Anacortes stalwart. Craving a beer, a cocktail, a nice dinner, some good appies, and/or a juicy burger? They've got you covered. I've been coming to the Brown for, like, decades now. It's a great spot to meet up with friends, enjoy a cold one, and eat some yummy food. They even used to have a shuffleboard table, which they got rid of several years ago to make room for more tables. I still miss that shuffleboard to this day, and secretly hope that, someday, I'll walk into the Brown and there it will be. My favorite here is their corn 'n crab chowder, which is offered in a cup or a bowl. Trust me, you'll want to get the bowl. They also make a mean quesadilla, and a generous (and healthy) hummus plate if I'm feeling like lighter fare. Seriously, though, I've never had a bad meal here, and there is something for every mood. Service is quick and friendly, especially if you sit on the "bar" side (which is 21+). The restaurant side is slightly slower, but still not bad. Super disappointed tonight same as last time. Usually a great place to go. Out of Jim Beam again and offered the replacement which was not the same or even in the same ballpark. Then ordered the Wednesday night gumbo special, and was completely different than the multiple times we have had it in the past. Different cook, certainly. Too thick, too much rice and no broth. It was spicy and had several shrimp, but missed the actual mark of gumbo. Service was very slow too. 4 tables around us asked when their food was coming. Incredibly different than ever before. Plus bar was not even that busy. Need to look at kitchen and cooks, need some help to get back to what they were. Same space same feel, ambient noise average, just not that busy. This is a pretty cool spot. Darts, live music, open mic, and an excellent beer garden. I've seen dogs in the beer garden so I think they are dog friendly or there anyway. They can get pretty busy and service can be a bit slow from time to time but the bartenders are great and make up for any wait. The food menu is pretty darn good. We were looking for someplace to eat and stumbled across this place. They have a nice variety of menu options. We also had three employees check with us before we even had food. I had The Remmy which sounded really good... And it was. The Remmy sauce was a perfect amount of spiciness. The burger did have some redness in one spot but it was a thick burger so no big deal. We also had the fish tacos and BLT, both were very good. The only shortcoming was despite the attention prior to our food,no one checked in after that. Luckily there were not any issues. My companion said this was a must stop for their chili and the menu does say it is award winning. It was 9am and I wasn't feeling like chili so opted for the small brunch menu (full menu available). I got the half order of biscuits and gravy which had a very flavorful gravy. Egg and meat came with it. The egg was served on top of the biscuit and gravy. I opted for a side of potato which was thickly diced and seasoned well. Eclectic decoration in the bar with sports and local items. Large two sided space. I want to say that we have visited your restaurant at least 6 times in the last 6 months and have always had great food and friendly service. We were in Last Saturday 10th January around 4:45 pm. We sat down at one of the front tables and were never looked at or greeted. After 10 minutes we left and went across the street and had a great dinner. There were 5 of us, I just think that someone should at least acknowledge you when you walk into any restaurant with at least a welcome our will be with you shortly and then you don't mind waiting to spend 200.00 on dinner and drinks. During the AAF, they were busy, but it was poor, SLOW (over 1 hr), service & VERY very very dry chicken wings.

Short-staffed for peak summer. This place is popular and totally unprepared for the later-than-anticipated, peak-summer rush. Came by with a friend on a Sunday evening at 7pm and was informed that we would need to wait 20 minutes before ordering food because the kitchen was backed up. After 40 minutes wait - and 2 rounds of drinks- we were finally able to place our orders (2 Greek salads). We would have ordered fish and chips or other pub food, but we're worried we would never eat if we had to wait for cook time! The salads were great, but took about 30 more minutes to arrive. All that said, the bartenders and kitchen staff are phenomenal and deserve medals of bravery for taking on the summer crowd while under-resourced! read more

My wife and I ate at the Brown Lantern Alehouse after reading the reviews. It was exactly the atmosphere we were looking for. The fish and chips (cod) was delicious and the tartar sauce was best I've had. My wife had the fish tacos which were very generous portions and she said they were great. The service was great and informal, just like we like it. The ambiance is fun and homey. They have college and professional team banners hanging on the ceiling and on the walls. Being from Texas, I was surprised to see some banners for Texas teams and was especially excited to see my alma mater's banner, University of Houston! Go Coogs!
