We had the fish and chips today, excellent! Well seasoned fish that was served hot. It was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and beautiful tender cod inside. The fries are always great, well seasoned and so many it is guard to stop eating them. The bartender is always amazing; friendly and quick to serve even with being the only server in the entire bar for lunch! Great environment with a lot of TVs, music and a pool table. I've become a big fan of the Longhorn over the years. Part dive bar, part amazing burger joint, this place rarely disappoints when I'm in the mood for a casual dinner with some good beer to go along with it. Plus, it's usually less busy than some of the other nearby food/beer joints (although parking, especially on a busy weekend, can be an issue). Besides tasty, juicy burgers (my favorite is the Western), they also have a nice selection of salads, fish and chips, and even fresh oyster shooters (with or without vodka). There's a full bar, and a pool table to give the place a little extra atmosphere. On warm summer nights, you can even sit outside in their slough-side beer garden. The service here is always friendly and fast. It's a great place to meet up mid-way with my Bellingham friends for a nice dinner and a walk around sweet little Edison, too. read more

It seems like a good little local; divey ambiance, full bar, decent taps, prices are average. Food is generous and mostly good (the oyster shooters are a caution. In fairness: oyster shooters should always BE a caution, BUT: you do you). The trouble I have is the Jeckle-and-Hyde service. They can be dismissive or outright unkind, if they don't think you're picking up the tab for your table, especially if you're female. They were very cool and unengaging towards my wife and my cousin's wife while being very kind and attentive to me and my cousin during our first visit. When (to their obvious dismay) the girls picked up the tab, it didn't go well for them. We gave them another shot a month later but got the same. They fell off our list for a year, plus. I've traveled a bit and have seen this sort of thing, especially in the Midwest and mountain states. The female servers (and they're ALL female here, which should be a tip off) will be gratuitous, even flirtatious towards whomever they think will tip them, and not friendly at all towards the rest of the party, especially the women. It's almost like they're coached. HUGE mistake. Eventually, we forgot enough to go back again. We're local, so there aren't many options - you have to give folks a chance. So we picked off-days, Tuesdays or Wednesdays, and early afternoons, when things are slow... We were rewarded with the best of everything the joint has to offer: undistracted service, immediate juke box plays, open pool table, good food served right away, and a minimum of aggressive patrons. Gosh I love this place. Bow has a smattering of restaurants on the main drag through town, and Longhorn never disappoints. I've been there for dinner, lunch, happy hour, you name it. It's a bit of a dive, in the most positive and fabulous way possible. Service has always been friendly and knowledgeable, parking is up and down the road, and you can find all types there. Bikers, older crowds, young professionals...it's a true melting pot. They have a pretty large menu and the prices are very reasonable. Where can you still get a burger for $13?! Nowhere but here! Additionally, they try to use local ingredients and local businesses so it feels good supporting all of them. They also have the best pickle fries I've ever had. The taplist has at least 15 beers at any time. It's fantastic. I've had the Captain's Platter before and it's a gigantic plate of fried goodness. The seafood was fresh and the portions of each were huge. I recommend going here whenever I can - there are lots of other choices in the area but Longhorn is the most consistently fun one on the strip. read more

On our way back from Bellingham we took a side road and went thru the town of Edison. It was a beautiful day, so we decided to drop by the Longhorn Saloon. This is a great small town saloon and has a nice area to sit in the sun in the back. There is a food menu available, although we did not order anything but it looked like they had a nice selection. A good selection of craft beers and also lighter beers if you like that better. The Longhorn Saloon is known for their Oyster Run, but on the off times they are a great place for good food & beer. They have a nice outdoor seating right along the slough. I had the 6 piece Prawn Basket & had it grilled, but you can also have them pan-fried or deep fried. My friend got a Thai Shrimp wrap, which was huge & very tasty. My other friend got a BLT on Bread Farm bread & it was delicious. My apologies for not getting pics of the other items. The portions are huge & the service is great! read more

Our housesitter recommended this place and she was right. The fish and chips were terrific and their onion rings are some of the best we've had. I tried the triple shrimp basket, with shrimp done three ways, and it was really good. Their portions are huge so plan on taking food home or order accordingly. Service was excellent by our brunette server. Tried their clam chowder on my friend's recommendation and I can honestly say it's in the top three I've ever had - obviously scratch made, rich but not thick and gummy, great flavors. When we went there the second time I got a bowl of it, husband got an entree, and we still brought food home! It's worth the drive for us. Minor reminder to staff: if someone is having a butt outside the back door please close it so the smoke doesn't come into the restaurant. read more

Can be considered a sports bar as well. This fabulous saloon serves the best fried mushrooms with a panko crust that I've ever had. Followed that up with oyster shooters that were big and beefy and then washed those down worth the fried scallops. Incredible. All of it. And the service was outstanding. Much better than their sister restaurant. I'm not sure why cause usually it would be about the same caliber. The food is really good. The atmosphere is fun. My dad loves the Cajun Stew. I've had the captains platter it was really good! Wedge salad. Their drinks are on point. All in all wish they'd bring some of this energy to sedro. read more

A group of us stopped here for lunch after playing at Padilla Bay. There is a very small gravel parking lot to park in. Street parking is also an option (basically parking on someones lawn since there are no shoulders.) Discover is an accepted form of payment. Tabs were easily split. This is a biker bar, meaning extra frills aren't needed and aren't provided. Decor is basic and bare. This bar does exactly what it's meant to do: feed and drink those (21+) that walk through their door. Our group shared a couple pitchers of Longhorn Amber (brewed by Pyramid) for $13.50 each. My wife and I split the CBR Wrap and curly fries for $9.99. The brew was good and our wrap was delicious. Thank you Longhorn for the no-frills brew and lunch. We will definitely be coming back the next time we're in this neck of the woods. read more

Stopped here in September during Oyster Run for a brew. . Had a great time and thought the food looked great so decided to take a road trip in the new year for lunch. Ordered the Chicharrones appetizer. That was a mistake. Unless you want to go to the dentist to fix broken teeth do not order! Hard as granite. Chowder was good, Captains plate passable but fries just like the cheap shoe string potatoes you buy for your 5 year old. I gave 3 stars because the bartenders and locals are the atmosphere worth coming in for. read more

It was recommended to us by a local, or we might not have picked it. That being said, the food was pretty good. Actually, without a doubt the best fried chicken sandwich I've had anywhere. I'm giving the Longhorn 4 stars, because it's a dive bar in a "wide spot in the road", not a 5-star restaurant in a major city. However, among dive bars, it would rate at least 5 stars. I thought that I'd previously reviewed it, but couldn't find any evidence of a review, so here we go.... We visit the Harbor/La Conner area about once a year, for various reasons. We typically visit the Longhorn at least once each time. Just as most cooks on the (L)east Coast don't know how to prepare vegetables properly, most on the "Best" Coast have no idea how to properly prepare chicken ("Buffalo") wings. I admit to being spoiled and somewhat elitist on the topic. I've eaten chicken wings at Duff's and at the Anchor Bar, in Buffalo, where they originated. I've enjoyed the legendary wings at the late, great Airways Hotel in Buffalo. I've eaten wings many times at Wings, Spuds, & Suds, near the Pittsburgh airport. Those folks know how to prepare chicken wings! In the Seattle area, I seldom order them, because they're usually inferior (I'm thinking of Wingdome and Buffalo Wild Wings). The Longhorn's chicken wings are the equal of any on the Least Coast, in my opinion. My only complaint about the Longhorn's wings is that the meal doesn't include celery sticks, except on request, though carrot sticks are provided. To be an exceptional wing provider, the restaurant should include moist towelettes (Longhorn doesn't), because superior wings are very messy to eat. Otherwise, the Longhorn Saloon is a dive bar, though a very clean and well-kept one, with good service. Our experience is that it's largely a hangout for locals, though this itty-bitty location (can't really call it a town) has been discovered by tourists, especially during the Tulip Festival. On yesterday's visit, we discovered that they actually have a parking lot behind the building. We've always parked near-by, on the dirt street. Surprise! read more

Eighty-five miles! That's how far I drove, 85 miles...for a hamburger! Am I nuts, or what? My destination was the "Longhorn Saloon" in Edison, Washington up in the Skagit Valley. Edison is a small, out of the way (and I mean that quite literally) place, and if you didn't know it was there you really wouldn't know it was there. It's not even a town. (Here's a bit of trivia: newsman Edward R. Murrow graduated from Edison High School.) The U.S. Census Bureau calls Edison a "census-designated place (CDP), but I'd call it a community; a community of 133 people living in 59 "housing units" (more "government speak"). There are a handful of shops, a cafe, a couple of galleries, a liquor store and two taverns/restaurants. My destination, the "Longhorn Saloon", is one of those. So, if this place is so "out of the way", just how did I find out about it? Well, several years ago we lived on Whidbey Island and we would go through Edison on our way to Chuckanut Drive for oysters or to go up to Bellingham. Just about every time we went through Edison we'd say, "We need to stop here some time.", but we never did; we were always on our way somewhere else. But not today! While I'd been by the "Longhorn Saloon" on many occasions and it always seemed there were busy, I had never actually heard anything about the place. I looked them up on the internet and could find no website, but I did find several references and reviews on other sites. The general buzz was favorable, and that only made me want to see for myself all the more. We got there a little after noon and parked in their parking lot out back overlooking Edison Slough. There were already nearly a dozen customers when we got there, but the place was far from full. We started out with a couple of shots of Jameson and a couple of beers, Sam Adams Winter Lager for me and a Stella for my wife. We began our meal with a dozen oysters each, not on the half-shell, although that's how they're billed on the menu, but presented on an oyster plate with an assortment of accouterments. Good, but I prefer the "half-shell" presentation; with that you can be fairly certain that, having ostensibly just been shucked, your bi-valves are quite fresh. I don't mean to imply in any way that these oysters weren't, I'm just sayin'. While perusing the burger section of the menu, I had zeroed in on their "Double-Double" (double meat, double cheese, double bacon, along with your traditional garden representatives...lettuce, onion and tomato). After my experience at Hodad's with their double bacon cheeseburger, and taking into account the dozen oysters, I was expressing reservations at my ability to finish such a burger. Ron, a rather large fellow at the next table who had ridden his Harley over from Oak Harbor just to wrap himself around said "Double-Double", allowed that, oysters or no, he thought the "Double-Double" was do-able. Well OK, if Ron thinks so, that's good enough for me! My wife went for the fish-and-chips, and was sorry she did. The fried frozen cod was watery. She was wishing she had gone the way of the burger; I know I was glad I had. When the burger came I dove right in; hey, I'd just driven 85 miles for this, and I was ready! Tasty, juicy beef, melted cheese, crispy bacon and fresh lettuce, onion and tomato, all on a bun that, while not "artisan", was fresh and did its job without falling apart. I'm sorry to say I neglected to get a photo of my burger. After driving an hour and a half to get this burger, I immediately started in on it and didn't think about the photo until I was half-way through it. I did take a photo of it at that point, but let me assure you that a half-eaten burger just doesn't have the same visual allure as one that hasn't been ravaged by a famished road warrior. Ron was right, the "Double-Double" was do-able, and it left my mouth very, very happy. So, as you might guess, this burger, on my three tier scale of "worth the trip", "worth a stop" or "drive on by", rates a "worth the trip"...even an 85 mile trip! I can't say that I'd drive 85 miles for a burger anytime somebody drops a hat, but today I was glad I did. The Longhorn Saloon & Grill is located at 5754 Cains Ct in Edison, WA, where McTaggart Avenue meets Gilkey Avenue. They don't have a website, but they do have a phone and they can be reached by calling (360) 766-6330. Don't be afraid the drive out there; it only seems like it's in the middle of nowhere, and once you've been there you'll know that it's really in the middle of "somewhere". read more
