This check-in is for The Tavern. It really should have a separate listing, as the menu is different. Tonight, with a new chef recently, we had the fish & chips and the pork belly. The fish was breaded and the breading was AMAZING! The portion was generous, served with excellent fries, Cole slaw and tartar sauce. The Cole slaw was ...GOOD! I never like restaurant Cole slaw. This had flavor and a surprise: DILL. I stole a significant portion of my sweetheart's meal. My choice was an appetizer: first time for pork belly. The meat itself was delicious, served as a (3) Skewer with a half Brussels sprout, in a bed of spicy sauce (that the bartender said was not spicy). It was very good, but it was duct. Order the sauce on the side. As far as service, it was great, but we did arrive before the crowd. Bartender did replace my drink I didn't care for. Before I finish, I want to express my gratitude for the free Live Music here, weekly. Every Friday and Saturday. It definitely brings my business. read more

This was my first experience at the Brown Swan/Lodge at Schroon Lake. Went for the Fire and Ice festivities which was a really fun and different experience. The main lodge and patio are beautiful and it seemed everything was well planned and organized. Having been coming to Schroon Lake for years, it is so great to have such a wonderful place move in and I really am rooting for their long term success! That said, our restaurant experience was not great. The wait staff and kitchen are not on the same level as the rest of the place. I've had better meals and service at just about every other restaurant in town. This was sad because I really wanted to love and rave about the restaurant. Overall this is a great place to have a few drinks and enjoy the entertainment! But if you get hungry, might be better just to order bar food staples from the Tavern part of the restaurant. read more

We dined here 30 min before the kitchen closed. There was a young waitress/hostess only to serve 4 tables including large family/groups. The waitress was exceptionally attentive and friendly all the time so we were pleased. We tipped her generously! The food was great and I recommend two dishes we had. Probably due to short staff, those dishes were not sizzling but the seasoning was adequately applied and the volume of food was generous. First time dining at the Brown Swan. I have to say I was not as impressed as I thought we would be. We did order dinner and breakfast the next morning. We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. But the last night we decided to go to a different restaurant in town. The service was very slow. We ordered 2 French onion soups and a chicken sandwich to split. From the time we sat to the time we left it was 2 hours. We ordered the s'more's skillet dessert and it was supposed to be hot/warm it came out cold as could be. It took 10 minutes to get the server to come back to tell her and by that time we didn't want a new one. We weren't a fan of breakfast. All food is expensive The atmosphere was really cool! I just happened to stumble upon this absolute gem. I was in upstate New York for a wedding and this was by far the best place I ate in New York during my stay. The food was absolutely delicious! The view was breathtaking. The restaurant itself is tucked away in some sort of resort but has a very cozy cabin ambiance. And the service was amazing. I would love to actually stay here sometime. Those raviolis were fantastic! My only complaint was the menu is pretty small but even then for being a restaurant for a hotel had a lot of options. read more

Ambiance was great. Chicken was overcooked and the broccoli rabe was over salted. My guest's rice was bland and had no taste. Scallops were prepared correctly. Our drink came out virtually the same time as the meal. Disappointing Service, Beautiful View Long overdo review just catching up from our whirlwind adventure. We had high hopes for this spot given its location, but unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. Our server, Justin, was extremely slow and inattentive. He seemed far more focused on another table--apparently people he knew and assumed would tip better--while we were left waiting. When we raised concerns about the sluggish service, he acknowledged the issues and offered to take some items off the bill, which speaks volumes. The food was fine--nothing terrible, but nothing memorable either. The real standout was the view: absolutely breathtaking, overlooking a gorgeous lake in such a fun little town. That alone made the visit worthwhile, but the staff seriously detracts from the overall experience. We headed to the bar afterward, where the bartender (red hair, unfortunately didn't catch her name) served us. She looked disheveled, wasn't friendly, and barely engaged with us. She made a couple of decent drinks, then disappeared--we waited quite a while just to close our tab. Not the kind of service you'd expect from a bartender. The restaurant interior feels a bit dated, though that may be intentional. Either way, it could use some freshening up--and so could the staff. If you find yourself comping bills due to poor service on a regular basis, it might be time to rethink who you're hiring and how you're training. Overall, the view is stunning, but the service needs serious improvement. Maybe next time we will give the lodge a chance and stay here. read more

We were very happy to be greeted by a fire outside and a guitar player inside who was really fun. The bartender was nice and the food was exactly what we expected. A bit of a mixed bag from the Brown Swan, with all the associated kinks to work out upon opening a new restaurant. First, the good: the staff is incredibly friendly. Lots of genuine enthusiasm from everyone I spoke to here. The food was mostly tasty, although a little simple. And the view of the lake is absolutely spectacular. I'd highly recommend a table outside if possible. Unfortunately, there are still some issues to iron out here. Organization is a bit lacking. We were seated and it was almost half an hour before anyone took our order, even after we asked servers walking by about it. Some of the bathrooms are unfinished (plywood stalls). And our breakfast scramble was not cooked properly at all. The potatoes were raw in the skillet. There is no doubt in my mind that once things get up and running, dining here will be a treat, with the friendly staff, beautiful lodge and view, and well put together menu. Unfortunately right now there are still growing pains to address. I look forward to visiting again in the future to try it out after a little more experience is had by both front and back of house. read more

The Brown Swan is the on-site restaurant at the Lodge on Schroon Lake (a brand, new Adirondack resort.) The property is part of historic restoration of what was originally constructed as an upscale lodge named the Brown Swan Club (1917.) So, not only is the restaurant new - it is part of major resort that just opened a month ago. It is rustic, with warm, Adirondack-themed design. The menu is small but offers enough variety to please all. Our first night, we both had burgers and washed them down with a very nice gin gimlet and glass of pinot. The next morning, we had the 210 - which is 3 eggs cooked any style, roasted potatoes, choice of breakfast meat, and toast. I chose scrambled with the pork sausage and hubby had poached eggs with the maple bacon. The eggs were cooked perfectly - my scrambled eggs were creamy and buttery. Hubby's poached eggs were time just right with pillowey whites, and oozing, golden yolks. And, oh, my -- the bacon!!!!! It was just the best bacon of our lives. Sweet, sticky, and smoky! Yum!!! Dinner this night was the delightful and tasty maple bourbon chicken breast for me and hubby had the squid ink linguini that was made with blue crab/lemon vin blanc/heirloom tomato. Superb! It was rich, creamy, and decadently delicious. After dinner, we headed over to the bar for a nightcap. We took our drinks outside to the patio to enjoy the firepit, the moon, and the lake. For our final meal before heading out the next morning, I had the Oh So Plain Flapjacks which made me a truly happy camper. Golden, buttermilk pancakes with a dimple of melted butter on top with New York maple syrup. You cannot find more perfect pancakes anywhere! I will dream about those for a long time to come. Hubby had the sweet corn crusted french toast which is made with vanilla cream cheese, fresh strawberries, NY maple syrup and anglaise. Absolutely scrumptious!!! We were in breakfast heaven!!! Hosts, servers, bartenders all worked super hard to provide the best service and experience. But, as we know, nowadays staffing is a challenge. Thus, we all should practice patience. For one of the meals, wait time was a little long as things had gotten really busy. I consider this normal and expected for any new restaurant -- let alone a major enterprise of a large scale as is the case with the Lodge and it's on-site restaurant. Disappointing and oddly flavored corned beef hash and eggs. The cook made it with sweet potatoes, bacon and cumin... And the classic breakfast of eggs, bacon and home fries wasn't even up to par: the eggs weren't cooked as ordered, and the bacon was dry and tasteless. There was only one other table being served on a Saturday morning. Not a good sign. The server was gracious and expressed that he'd only been working a few weeks. They had a lot of things to work out when we were there and they were definitely short staffed. We made a reservation for 8 for dinner and when we got there it was not crowded at all but the hostess said we would have to wait about 20 more minutes because the server was just sat a larger party and she needed to catch up. TLDR: Meh to poor service. Steak and eggs breakfast not worth the price. Service: 1. A young woman saw my family and I, 4 people in total, standing in front of the host station and said nothing for a good 40 seconds. My wife finally asked if it was self-seating, to which the woman said, in so many words, "I'm entering an order and will get you seated afterwards". She continued to enter the order for another silent 20 seconds or so before another young man came over and a brief discussion was had between them and we were subsequently seated. The young lady wasn't overtly rude but seriously, how do you not acknowledge 4 whole humans for half a minute?? And mind you, she only acknowledged us after my wife spoke. She was entering an order I understand, but a simple "I'll be with you shortly", or some sort of acknowledgement goes a long way even if your hands are tied. 2. Our server wasn't bad. He seemed nice enough but we wasn't good enough to wash the taste out of my mouth left by his colleague. Honestly all three servers present kinda seemed like they'd much rather be anywhere else (based on body language and interactions with their tables and each other), and I can't blame them. It was the am after the eclipse so they probably got slammed the previous night but still, if you don't like food service, don't be a server. No one owes me a song and dance, I know, but jeez, for the food (more below) and the service, the prices are widely over inflated. Food: Got steak and egg breakfast. The toast was kinda cold. The steak was chewy and lacking flavor, albeit cooked perfectly, and the roasted potatoes were also flavorless and uninspired. The eggs were overcooked and had a slight hint of the sulfur one smells when eggs have been cooked too long. Also, just meh. Overall: Food and service were acceptable if they charged IHOP prices (came for breakfast), but they don't so they weren't. Do yourself and favor and just find the nearest Chic fil A or McDonald's if you want breakfast. You're practically guaranteed to get similar quality food, and definitely guaranteed to get better service. This is 3 star food and service for 4 star prices, so I gave 2 because I feel cheated. Full disclosure, aside from the first encounter, the remainder of my review could've been influenced by this initial bad impression. Our poor server had an uphill battle because of his colleague and that morning he just wasn't up to the task. If you're headed south along the eastern seaboard, skip this joint and go to John's Roast Pork in Philly lol. We missed out John's Roast Pork's phenomenal sandwiches because we stopped here. read more

My husband and I had our anniversary dinner here on 10/7. Its a beautiful and rustic dining room with stunning view of Schroon Lake. Both the service and the food was top notch. We placed our order and a few minutes later the waiter returned and apologized that one of our entrees was sold out. That was not a problem since there were plenty of good choices on the menu. I was so excited that a new restaurant opened on Schroon Lake but unfortunately we won't be back. Our meals were not good. I had the pesto pasta with clams and prosciutto. I guess they ran out of prosciutto so instead they piled sliced deli ham on top of the pasta and then when I questioned it they insisted it was prosciutto. The dish bland and lacked any flavor. This is a review that I really didn't want to write. My wife and I own a house in Schroon Lake and there really aren't many good restaurants so when the Brown Swan opened we were very excited. I have had dinner there about 4 or 5 times and they just don't have their act together. The food is very good but rather eclectic and limited so it's hard to eat there more than once every month or so. They need to expand the menu. The other bigger issue is service. We tend to eat there over the summer when they bring seasonal staff in who really don't have a clue. Tonight trying to order drinks was quite the challenge and took an extreme amount of time, over a half hour and the drinks were wrong. They need to develop a core team of servers and then use the seasonal help to fill the gaps. Again it's a place that I would like to see succeed but right now it's iffy. read more

They food was very good and the staff was extremely friendly. However, the Mount Severence dessert was not well made and there were walnuts in the brownie which was NOT stated on the menu. My sister is allergic to tree-nuts and for some people, consumption can be fatal. They should absolutely add the nut warning onto the dessert. Other than that, the place was okay. read more
