    S'mores skillet

First time dining at the Brown Swan. I have to say I was not as impressed as I thought we would be. We did order dinner and breakfast the next morning. We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. But the last night we decided to go to a different restaurant in town. The service was very slow. We ordered 2 French onion soups and a chicken sandwich to split. From the time we sat to the time we left it was 2 hours. We ordered the s'more's skillet dessert and it was supposed to be hot/warm it came out cold as could be. It took 10 minutes to get the server to come back to tell her and by that time we didn't want a new one. We weren't a fan of breakfast. All food is expensive The atmosphere was really cool! Definitely reminds me of an upstate NY restaurant

I just happened to stumble upon this absolute gem. I was in upstate New York for a wedding and this was by far the best place I ate in New York during my stay. The food was absolutely delicious! The view was breathtaking. The restaurant itself is tucked away in some sort of resort but has a very cozy cabin ambiance. And the service was amazing. I would love to actually stay here sometime. Those raviolis were fantastic! My only complaint was the menu is pretty small but even then for being a restaurant for a hotel had a lot of options.

Disappointing Service, Beautiful View Long overdo review just catching up from our whirlwind adventure. We had high hopes for this spot given its location, but unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. Our server, Justin, was extremely slow and inattentive. He seemed far more focused on another table--apparently people he knew and assumed would tip better--while we were left waiting. When we raised concerns about the sluggish service, he acknowledged the issues and offered to take some items off the bill, which speaks volumes. The food was fine--nothing terrible, but nothing memorable either. The real standout was the view: absolutely breathtaking, overlooking a gorgeous lake in such a fun little town. That alone made the visit worthwhile, but the staff seriously detracts from the overall experience. We headed to the bar afterward, where the bartender (red hair, unfortunately didn't catch her name) served us. She looked disheveled, wasn't friendly, and barely engaged with us. She made a couple of decent drinks, then disappeared--we waited quite a while just to close our tab. Not the kind of service you'd expect from a bartender. The restaurant interior feels a bit dated, though that may be intentional. Either way, it could use some freshening up--and so could the staff. If you find yourself comping bills due to poor service on a regular basis, it might be time to rethink who you're hiring and how you're training. Overall, the view is stunning, but the service needs serious improvement. Maybe next time we will give the lodge a chance and stay here.

A bit of a mixed bag from the Brown Swan, with all the associated kinks to work out upon opening a new restaurant. First, the good: the staff is incredibly friendly. Lots of genuine enthusiasm from everyone I spoke to here. The food was mostly tasty, although a little simple. And the view of the lake is absolutely spectacular. I'd highly recommend a table outside if possible. Unfortunately, there are still some issues to iron out here. Organization is a bit lacking. We were seated and it was almost half an hour before anyone took our order, even after we asked servers walking by about it. Some of the bathrooms are unfinished (plywood stalls). And our breakfast scramble was not cooked properly at all. The potatoes were raw in the skillet. There is no doubt in my mind that once things get up and running, dining here will be a treat, with the friendly staff, beautiful lodge and view, and well put together menu. Unfortunately right now there are still growing pains to address. I look forward to visiting again in the future to try it out after a little more experience is had by both front and back of house.

Fantastic. The service was amazing!! Awesome service as well as delicious and diverse food. This sandwich?? PHENOMENAL. It was sweet, tangy, savory, crunchy, spicy, mapley- the best chicken sandwich I've ever had in my life. The vibes were very classy and professional. When going here, it's best to look presentable to match the vibes of the restaurant.

On entry, it feels a bit like you're in the jungle with several hanging plants making for a very unique entryway. We were seated immediately in a booth towards the front of the restaurant, somewhat close by to a stove. We were a bit close to the front door so I'll admit my feet were fairly chilly by the end of the meal. Waitstaff were attentive and we had drinks in no time. I enjoyed a Maple Cream Stout special they had advertised on a sign outside. Glad it caught my eye on the way in as I didn't see it advertised in any of their menus. For food we wanted to sample a few things and ordered buffalo wings, potstickers, fish and chips, and a specialty salad with glazed walnuts, dried cranberries, feta, and a raspberry vinaigrette. Everything was tasty but I can't say it reached stand out territory. For example, the wings had good spice but were a bit on the slimy side. The salad was my favorite out of everything, very hearty and a great flavor profile. I can see why people enjoy this cozy pub. It's a good option in town.

Surprisingly enough, there was a spot along the Northway just outside of Warrensburg that still managed to show off its rainbow sherbet of colors. Our objective, however, was to meet my sister in Chestertown for dinner at O. P. Fredricks. Arriving at 4 PM when they opened there were already a few people in the bar and in the dining room. They don't take reservations, so it was wise to arrive early. By 4:30 there were people waiting for a table. The atmosphere inside is truly Adirondack with hewn wood beams and paneling. Before I forget, the chairs are really comfortable. The menu was surprisingly, large. In addition to the evening's specials, which included three entrées, there were a dozen shareable appetizers (emphasis on "shareable"), four salads, 19 regular entrées (all accompanied by a fresh salad and bread [we never received any bread, but I didn't see it served to other tables either]), four steaks, at least a dozen different handheld sandwiches, quesadillas, and a kids' menu. There is a full bar including a half dozen drafts. Our beverages to start were a Wolf Hollow draft Camp Out Stout ($8), a Saranac Ginger Beer ($4), and a glass of Mondavi Chardonnay ($7). The portion size of the Baked Brie ($11) was truly shareable. The brie was warmed without being runny, served on top of a tasty garlic bread made from pressed hamburger bun slices, and topped with a melba sauce. It was so delicious! Just like the appetizers, entrée portions are large. We each took half of ours home. My sister was very pleased with her Seafood Stuffed Portobello ($26) - the stuffed portobello was broiled and topped with shrimp scampi and, as all of our entrées, served over the house rice pilaf. My wife's Scallops Rockefeller ($31.95) included sautéed scallops (oddly on one side only), mushrooms, chopped bacon, and baby spinach, finished with an anisette flambé, and served over the previously mentioned rice pilaf. Another tasty dish. My choice was their Jambalaya ($28). It was a delicious combination of sautéed chicken, shrimp, andouille sausage, mixed peppers, onions, and diced tomatoes mixed with the ubiquitous rice pilaf. It had just the right amount of spiciness for my taste to make it a thoroughly enjoyable meal. To wrap things up, we shared the Maple Bread Pudding ($7) with cups of coffee ($3 each). The bread pudding was moist with just enough maple flavor to satisfy a sweet craving. Service throughout was very attentive and friendly. Did I mention how comfortable the chairs are? And yes, their rice pilaf does go very well with everything. We're looking forward to a future visit. UPDATE: The Jambalaya is soooo good the 2nd day, I suggest you order it as takeout to eat the following day. And they are even nice enough to have removed the tails from the shrimp before the dish is served.
