Wonderful, flavorful experience! My husband and I joined another couple at the Owl last Friday night. We were greeted quickly and had drinks within minutes. Their specialty margarita and the "mark"tini are fantastic!! The two appetizers we ordered were delish, the mussels came with plenty to share! Entrees came soon after, all were hot and just as described, and just delicious! The steak was perfectly done, and fish tender and juicy. The Owl's Tuscan Cousin was amazing, and portion generous. The summer has finally arrived and the Owl at Twilight is officially open. Last night my family went to dinner there and everything was delicious. Mark greeted and seated us promptly. The Owl has a new Chef (Russell) this season so we were excited to taste the new menu Our waitress Susie was great. We each had a cocktail before dinner which was the perfect start to our evening. Our appetizers consisted of the Beet Salad, Scallop ceviche, and Roasted Cauliflower. They were all tasty but my favorite was the Beet Salad! For our meals we had the gnocchi dinner, tri-tip steak with steak fries, and Chicken Saltimbocca. All cooked to perfection! For dessert we had the flourless chocolate cake and assorted berry pie. We were all so pleased with everything. As a long time customer, I must say the new menu has to be the best yet!! Can't wait for our next visit to the Owl! We were able to fit in one more trip to the Owl before summers end and we were very pleased! The food and service were spectacular and the live jazz singer added to the ambiance. The fried green tomato salad is a favorite, and the pasta special (puttanesca with shrimp and mussels) was fantastic! Highly recommended! read more

Every year while staying at Schroon Lake, we make a point of dining at The Owl At Twilight. It's always outstanding. Last night we had their tuna with jasmine rice and a wasabi cream sauce. Every bite was delicious as were our apps and wine. The service was excellent and very friendly and the staff gladly made some modifications to our orders as requested. Mixed reviews based on our experience this past Saturday. First - the food is good and I give credit to the chef and kitchen staff as the restaurant was way overbooked. We waited 25 minutes past our reservation time for a table. The martini we ordered while waiting on the porch was literally 1.5 ounces each. One hour from arrival we were waiting for our first course and I counted 26 people in our dining room with zero food on the table save one table that paid for the bread. The six-top near us left about 8 and said they were there three hours. We ended up there for three hours for three courses. We did protest the $8 upcharge for our martini's, as $30 for the drinks we got was an absolute travesty. I get that this is a seasonal place and restaurants want to make as much as they can in season, but one should not feel like a hostage when spending $200 for dinner. If I were running this place, I would have brought some bread out or cracked open a wine bottle and offered some drinks to guests as a small token of hospitality. Not sure we will return, but if I do, it will not be on a Saturday. read more

Table of 7 with reservation on a Thursday night. It took them 30 minutes just to take a drink order, 45 min for the food order! The good: food was mostly good with one huge exception. The $39 steak I ordered for my children and asked for rare came out well done with no apologies. But since it took almost 90 min to arrive my kids were too starving for me to send it back. To add insult I noticed they added $8 to the bill for the children to split this overcooked piece of meat! At $47 you better know how to cook a steak. They seemed to prioritize all the 2-4 top tables that came in after us. Maybe it's because they were regulars (we r just visiting for the week) or maybe it's because they knew 20% tip was already going to be included with our bill. Either way it felt rude esp with kids at a table who clearly were starving. With a 6:15 reservation we were not happy with eating after 7:30. I seldom review restaurants, but The Owl at Twilight deserves a true 5 star review. We arrived about 10 minutes early for our 6:00pm reservation. Mark acknowledged us quickly, as he was making cocktails, and offered us a menu prior to being seated. We got a moment to look over the restaurant. They had lots of local art work. A nice looking patio area and indoor dining space. We stepped outside to take a look at the menu. Shortly after, Mark popped out to take our drink order. We were seated around 6:05pm, our drinks arrived promptly. We ordered the seared scallops and bread as an appetizer. I highly recommend the bread basket. It is fresh and serves as a delicious way to savor the sauces and glazes of the entrees. The scallops were outstanding. They were light and flavorful. A perfect appetizer and great way to start the evening. I ordered the NY strip steak for my entree. As I write this I remember it coming to the table in all its glory, decadent cognac cream sauce and local mushrooms on top. I used the remainder of the bread to enjoy cognac sauce once the steak was gone. The mushrooms and vegetables were fresh and delicious. Overall the experience was great. Our waitress Kate and Mark were excellent hosts. I felt the meal was worth the bill. I have been traveling to the Adirondacks since I was a child and have dined at many locations. I felt the food at The Owl was an actual reflection of the chef and was unique to the establishment. I find many "fine dining" locations in the 'Daks produce generic dishes "everyone likes." The passion the owners have for the Owl is reflected in their cocktails and food. I would highly recommend location, and I look forward to my next visit. read more

We've been wanting to eat here for years and finally made it. We are so glad we did! We ordered take-out because we had our dog with us. The scallops appetizer was great. I liked the roasted cauliflower with tahini and pineapple hoisin appetizer a lot. My husband enjoyed the hangar steak--it was huge, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. My favorite was the pork saltam bucco. The meat was so tender that it was literally falling off the bone. The sauce and garlic mashed potatoes were rich and yummy. The owner and staff were extremely friendly from when we placed our order to the time we spent there. The owner even carried our food for me to the car. The mixed fruit pie was unique and fabulous. Long tiMe customer gone for good. You're busy and I get it - that's great. We were seated at 7:15 for a 7:00 reservation - I'm willing to be understanding. But when all five other tables in the room have had attention from wait staff, and my husband and I are ignored for 20 minutes as if we're invisible, do you think we'll ever come back? Nope. We will spend our money elsewhere, at restaurants that don't ignore us. Never again. EDIT: When we walked out we told Mark that $ was on the table for drinks we got at the bar. He made eye contact and said ok. He only seems concerned and responsive now that I've posted negative reviews on social media. Yes...we were ignored. The setting was amazing, as you felt like you were having dinner on a friends porch. (We sat outside on the porch) The service we received was spectacular and again very personal, from the owner who greeted us to the lovely and attentive waitress. Then the food was served. I had an incredible salad with fresh picked greens and tomatoes from their own garden that was amazingly fresh. I ordered the swordfish and my wife ordered the salt im bocco and both were outstanding. Definitely will go here again, and I suggest you give it a try also! We saved this restaurant for our last night in nearby North Creek. A truly special occasion. Leave room for a three course meal with drinks because this, my fellow Yelpers, is a place to savor a delicious meal with friends and/or family. Proprietor Mark was able to fit my family in for a reservation on the outdoor screened porch (great as it was raining and probably even on a clear night great because of skeeters). We could see a grove of trees lit with fairy lights in the distance with picnic tables underneath. There are a couple of themes here: the eponymous owls and key west (exhibited in the amazing collection of coasters in every table and the great menu of craft cocktails) as well as comfy Adirondack style deluxe. We had to wait out front for a while before our table was ready and enjoyed our Aperol Spritzes as the sun set. We could see the lovely indoor dining room as we passed through to the porch. The menu changes weekly and the ingredients and offered dishes change as well. They are open to requests to make a meal vegetarian or pescatarian. We had the spinach watermelon pistachio salad, the kale Caesar, lemon cream fettuccine (subbing shrimp for chicken), herb crusted grouper with saffron citrus aioli, and key lime mousse. Definitely considered some of the options for meat eaters too and definitely from what we could see of other tables, everyone's choices looked delicious. Wide selection of wines by the glass were served at perfect temperature. Even the quality of the butter served with the bread basket was notable. Many people were there: preppy old timers dressed for cocktail hour, a youthful punk couple in love, families with kids on best behavior (our teen hadn't really had a dining experience like this and I think she will never forget this); folks off a kayak trip, and everyone having an awesome time with the nicest staff ever and Mark coming over to check in. We are sad to not live closer as we would love to return for some of their special events including special meals with selected wines, cigar and spirit tastings, and live entertainment. Though it may be a long time to wait-we will be back! And if you go -- no there is no WiFi but put down your phones and enjoy the meal while chatting with your companions. You can do it! We dined at this restaurant on a Monday evening. It was not busy. The dining room was half empty. The food was disappointing and mediocre. My husband's burger was thin and drastically overcooked. We asked for a replacement, and the next burger was also very overcooked. The owner said that "the chef is still learning how to grill". What?!? The chicken in the chicken puttanesca was so overcooked it was very difficult to cut. The mussels were served in a bland broth that tasted like stewed tomatoes straight from the can. Also, the crostini that was supposed to accompany the mussels didn't arrive. We were given a basket of room temperature bread instead. Hidden ADK gem! My husband and I stopped in for dinner and it was an amazing dining experience across the board. Started with some well-made cocktails, always a good start. Then some appetizers, salads, and a main course and even dessert! The menu is just the right size- not overwhelming yet a nice variety to choose from. The combination of flavors shows that there is a passionate and playful chef in the kitchen. Everything was prepared perfectly and the quality of food was fresh and flavorful. Nice wine selection as well. On top of that, it was a relatively busy night with live jazz music and there wasn't an empty table on the place, yet all the server staff seemed to remain calm and level headed. No panic whatsoever. Mark greeted us and immediately offered us drinks while we waited outside for our table. Our server, Jocelyn I believe, was very helpful and fun. Can't believe it took us this long to discover this gem, will probably be returning at least once a week to get to try the menu as it rotates through the seasons. RUDE STAFF/OWNER. Went here with a group of ten and we were asked to wait on their front porch (which was covered in spiders and a cloud of mosquitoes) even though they had a bar in the front of the restaurant. After about ten minutes of fighting the bugs we decide we would wait inside and we were meet with dirty looks and the further suggestion that we should wait outside. We decided to go elsewhere. Two days later after a few of us left poor reviews on their Facebook page the owner had the gall to call the member of our group that made the reservation and threaten him with legal action. Do yourself a favor and steer clear. Sticks and Stones is near by and is a much cleaner establishment with friendly accommodating staff To answer the owner's retort, the reservation was for ten and we should up with ten (see pic of all 10 of us on my review of Sticks and Stones). While the bar does not seat ten there was plenty of room for us to stand in the waiting area. And no one touched their owl statue. Not only is the owner rude, he is a petty liar. read more

This is my honest account of a night not so well spent and my opinions after I've read the reviews. The rating is because the meal took 3 hours. My boyfriend and I waited 30 min before we were able to order our food, and an hour before we were given water. When our cocktails arrived mine was strangely watered down, (the Manhattan was paler then a blue moon) so I asked to take it away only to be pressured into having them make a new one. The second one was just the same except this time I was told the vermouth was sprayed and that's what made it have the pale color. I bit my tongue knowing full well that the excuse didn't make a bit of sense. Our appetizer was the only redeeming quality but then later I learned that they reused that exact sauce as the pasta sauce for my enteree. My boyfriends steak was clearly frozen and also overcooked. This being said the food wasn't horrible but not anywhere near the the price we paid for it. It's a small area and a nice place visually but don't get taken advantage of. Expect large wait times, probably just go with beer or wine, and be careful with what you order. read more

This restaurant is by far one of the most unique, appealing, and incredible restaurant that I've ever been to. The presentation and atmosphere complements the delicious meals; the location is far in the Adirondacks, surrounded by wilderness. It's beautiful and it's a restaurant that is a real "gem" that you are lucky to know about if you do. Had a most delicious dinner last night. We were late for our reservation but Mark got us a table pretty quickly. We had a choice of the garden area or the screen porch. Hubby chose garden which was next to the live entertainment thanks to Kent his wife Marilyn and son Bret. They were awesome and made our outdoor dining really fun. We had the cauliflower appetizer kale salad watermelon salad and for dinner hubby had Chicken and I had ribs. Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly! Our waitress Kate was awesome as well. I was impressed by the beautiful garden that l believe the sou chef tends. Entertainment deserves 5 stars. The only reason l didn't give 5 total was the lawn outside was badly in need of mowing and the cafe chairs were low quality and uncomfortable. One of the better food places in the Adirondacks area. The proprietor Mark was so friendly towards us, he even checked on us during our meals! I loved the cute owl decorations on the inside. The food was really, really, good as well! We had the ceviche which was really fresh, and the halibut and seafood stew in coconut milk and both were excellent! Been seeing a lot of tepid reviews of OAT complaining of blandness of the food. That was not my experience at OAT, but is my experience generally in the ADKs. I blame the insect repellent. Not on the food, but in your nose. When the bugs are really bad I spray OFF onto my hat, ears, and neck. Essentially creating a cloud of scent and DEET around my head. This seems to have the effect of killing my sniffer and taste buds. Coffee has no flavor, beer has no flavor, wine has no flavor even tequila has no flavor. I keep a case of Marie Sharps hotsauce at my camp for this reason. The hot sauce and orange marmalade are the only things that do not seem to be affected by reduced senses. The other factor in lack of flavor is age. If you are over 50 your sense of smell and taste decline rapidly. This is an ecological adaptation to keep marriages together. Woot! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. We arrived early for our 7:30 pm reservation but weren't seated until around 7:50 pm. When we sat down we were informed they were out of chicken and mussels. When we went to order we were then informed they were also out of steak. Due to their limited menu I decided to just order the $11 soup that contained only a few chunks of steak, enough pepper to cause heartburn on the first bite, and a heaping portion of carrots. After we ordered our appetizers the owner came over to inform us that he was out of mashed potatoes and those who ordered a dish with mashed potatoes had to choose from one of two substitutes. Wonderful dinner last night! 4 of us and all loved their selections! The duck, crab cakes, scallop appetizer, mushroom appetizer and swordfish special were all fabulous. And dessert... best key lime pie ever! Creme Brûlée was also very good. Atmosphere was great too! A hidden gem in the Adirondacks (Olmstedville, near Lake George and Schroon Lake, just north of Pottersville). Rustic chic ambiance, with a small copper-top bar in the front, a cozy dining room, and a screened porch out back overlooking the garden where they grow many of their herbs, salad tomatoes, kale, and other produce. There is a good variety of appetizers, salads, entrees, and small plates, and delicious homemade desserts and ice cream. I dined there twice and shared a number of these items. All were excellent. Good cocktails, a solid wine selection, coffee drinks, and local beers round out the offering. Service was friendly, and efficient -- attentive without giving any feeling of pressure. Owner Mark runs the front of the house, and is very hands on. Terrific guy who takes pride in giving every guest a great experience. Highly recommended.
