In all my years of attending affairs this was by far my favorite. The first thing I noticed was the staff and how accommodating they were to a random guest at one of the many parties they had going on. They made you feel like you were supposed to be there not just as a guest for the night. The second thing that made me love this place was actually the food. I never sit and have a meal at any catering hall. I tend to pick. Their mushroom risotto was so delicious I actually sat and ate. I would definitely consider having my next event here. read more

My fiends and I booked the balcony room for our friend's bridal shower, we booked this place because it was very convenient for her family and friends in terms of location. The food was good and the server was attentive BUT the room itself was dirty and it looked like it doesn't get any attention at all, windows We're dirty, drapes looked old and dirty, there were dead plants in the room that we wanted out but they said no, so we tried to cover them by putting balloons in front of them. We then went out to balcony to take pictures and the balcony was disgusting, dirty, had cigarette butt everywhere and the ash trays had piles of cigars and cigarette butts as well. We tried to make the room as best as possible with all decorations, but this place certainly needs an update and a good cleaning. read more

I can't imagine a better wedding and reception than the one I attended last weekend at The Brownstone. Beautiful outdoor space for photos, a lovely greenhouse for the ceremony, and a gorgeous reception room. The fireplaces are lovely and warmed bodies and hearts on a chilly day, for sure. AND THE FOOD! Holy cow I didn't think I would eat for a week after that night. It was soooo delicious and plentiful. The cocktail hour was huge and impressive. As I left the ceremony a server had a plate of sushi and I thought, "Nice! Passed hors d'oeuvres, I'm in." But not only were the passed goodies amazing--where else have you ever had mini (authentic) lobster rolls? Lamb chops (perfect cooked)? --in addition to crab cakes and more I can't even recall, but also there was a lobster station. Oysters. Pasta station. Grilled octopus (cooked properly *and* nicely seasoned). Fresh mozzarella station. And more! We were all basically full and then it was time for the full-dinner reception. Beautiful chandeliers in a lovely room, great setup for introductions and dancing, they even made space for the photo booth the couple rented. Food was excellent, wait staff attentive (even with water, which sometimes gets ignored). And then? In addition to a delicious wedding cake they'd requested an entire Viennese table. Carrot cake. Petit fours. Liqueurs for coffee or for a boozy shake. A chocolate fountain with a whole table of goodies for dipping. A donut board, lol. Honestly I wanted to move in and just keep eating. After reading the reviews it seems like it's something they usually do! Then when I showed them the contract and spoke to Al he said he has no recollection of me booking for my baby shower! Awesome place for an event. Celebrated my aunt's 80th surprise party here and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The staff were super attentive! Mina and one other younger girl (I didn't get her name) were so eager to please, they went above and beyond to ensure our event went over without a hitch. Quinn, the bartender was also helpful and went out of his way to adjust the music for us. The food was delicious as well! My only suggestion would be to have 9 place settings instead of ten at the tables. Our room seated 40, with ten seats per table, but it was definitely a tad on the tight side. The service staff is overwhelmed because they are running around like maniacs and tend to forget certain things. The Brownstone House has been a premier catering hall for many years with an outstanding reputation for always doing the right thing. Very involved in the community and giving back and paying it forward at all levels. The food is a home run if you enjoy quality and fresh Italian food in an upscale environment. But I'm only giving it 3 stars because of a common trend among these large catering halls. Celiac Disease is a very serious medical and health condition with severe consequences to the diner who suffers from this. All too often although management was notified in advance, wait staff manager told upon arriving today and still the establishment seemed clueless and acted like they weren't aware of the special dietary requirements for medical reasons after being told. After being there one hour plus and every one else enjoying their appetizers, the person in our party who was told and promised by our party host and The Brownstone management that she would have food for the party, still had no food delivered to her. I approached a senior host and when I told him about our party diner's Gluten Free diet, he looked at me like a 'deer in headlights '. Instead of apologizing he became defensive towards me. The head waiter finally came to our table and after 2 long hours of waiting, a specially prepared covered dish was delivered. 2 large pieces of grilled chicken, boiled or steamed potato, cauliflower and carrots. With a buffet spread of over 12-20 different specialty foods for all other guests this is the best that 'this place' can do? Thinking ahead we again asked the lead waiter that since there was no special dessert if he could prepare some fresh fruit. And within 30 minutes a large mixed fruit platter large enough for 5-10 people was placed in front of the CD diner. No individual plate,etc... The person in our party with Celiac Disease suffers from a medical condition and this is not the same as famous Hollywood stars or television personalities who choose to go Gluten Free strictly for dietary reasons. So maybe next time please listen to the diner like you care or if it was you with this serious disease. Thanks for nothing!! Thanks for demonstrating that you really don't care!! Ciao. read more

I have been to The Brownstone about a dozen times in as many years for different events. My review is based on the last experience we had which was Christmas Eve. We ordered a substantial amount of food (a catering order for approximately 30 people) for pick-up. My mother called two and a half weeks prior and was given specific instructions to place her order no later than the Friday before the holiday--no problem. We were given a pick-up time of 3:00pm on the 24th and had asked our guests to arrive at 4:30pm accordingly. At 4:30pm my mother was still WAITING FOR THE FOOD. Unacceptable. No apology or discount was offered for the hour and a half wait to pick up. The poor woman stood there as people with 3:00, 3:30, 4:00, 4:30 pick up times walked in and out with their orders. This is horrible business practice, and I can't believe that for a place like this--who has plenty of competition for a holiday catering order--would consider this acceptable and not offer to make right on the situation. It's really a shame, too, because the food wasn't half bad. Unfortunately after leaving her close to tears from the whole ordeal, The Brownstone will not be my mother's nor my family's catering option for anything in the future. read more

Was SO rude to us. 5 minutes before the doors opened for our event the woman told us there was an extra charge for the projector and they can't do it, after the other owner told us we could. She tried to negotiate with us about the price as people were waiting in the lobby. It turns out our request was in the contract but they made a mistake. She made the event more stressful. Hosted my best friend's bridal shower in the Grand Conservatory recently and the room was absolutely beautiful. Simply stunning! Pretty pricey to host an event here, but the venue and grounds are well kept. Bathrooms were a bit run down though. Lots of difficulty closing the bathroom doors (yikes). We had the lunch buffet menu and the food was absolutely delicious! The staff members were on top of those chafing dishes too. They were never empty! While the roasted chicken was a bit dry, the short ribs, calamari, penne vodka, and chicken francese were sooo good! A few disappointing factors: 1. During the shower there was construction taking place outside of the conservatory. With the room being all glass windows, it was pretty distracting. 2. While the Maitre D and other staff members were friendly and helpful during the shower, the bride's mother and maid of honor were not happy with the sales staff - who were not very accommodating and pleasant to work with. 3. The staff failed to tell us that there was a wedding taking place an hour after our shower ended! At the end of our allotted time, the staff became very rude and began rushing us out immediately. While our guests were saying their goodbyes, staff members were breaking down tables, vacuuming, and ushering us to take down all of our decorations. We frantically cleaned up our belongings as a huge crew began setting up for the cocktail hour. Im pretty appalled at how we were treated at the end of our event. While the space was gorgeous and food was delicious - it does not make up for the crappy customer service, especially for the price you pay to host an event here! read more

Ahh the Brownstone, who doesn't love the Brownstone. I have attended numerous events here over the years and all I can say now is this place is in need of some renovations. The downstairs room I was in last week was jacked up! The carpet was pulled up in many spots causing people to trip and looked like it needed a good steam cleaning. There was a wad of gum stuck on the wall. How gross?? Chairs were wobbly. There was a couple pesty little nats flying around too. I get it they are booked for so many events that there probably is not time but they need to make time. One room at a time. I'm sure they will continue to do great business but c'mon people are starting to notice how shabby it has become! On a plus side the food is still amazing and plentiful. I love the vodka sauce, calamari, house salad dressing, eggplant rollatini and rice balls here. But there is a toss up between what is my favorite food here...pignoli cookies or the short ribs. Both are off the charts amazing. The service and waitstaff have always been on point too! Valet can get crazy when a big party lets out but I guess that's expected. Bottom line is take a break from Bravo TV and focus on your place of business. Do some of those renovations that are desperately needed and I'm sure people will leave with such a better taste in their mouth. read more

Came here for an awards ceremony. The room we were in was very large-there were 450 people attending! I have to say that the service was excellent and the food was top-notch. Valet parking, but we self-parked in a lot across the street. Sparkling clean rest room. My only complaint was the music penetrating through the floor from the sweet 16 party in the room below us. read more

I wanted to share with everyone how absolutely grateful we are for the amazing service the staff provided us during the entire planning and celebration for my daughters "Quinceañera". We could not be happier. Everyone complimented the service and the beautiful venue. I hope we have the opportunity to celebrate other important events at The Brownstone. He was patient and took the time to hear every detail I wanted for the party, from size of the cake, the napkins, the floor length table cloths, to finding a perfect time for us to set up. zomg - the real housewives of new jerseyyyyyyyy! I came here for a wedding reception, and while there was no Dina or Caroline housewife sightings, I had a fabulous time gobbling up the delicious food and being surrounded by the ridiculously opulent decor. Everywhere you turn, there's a chandelier. The bathroom stalls even have beads hanging over the little light in there. The bathroom sinks are painted in a way that tells a fairy tale. It's over-the-top gaudy. The food was delicious! At the end, there was a dessert bar that was phenomenal. Bananas foster bar, mini doughnuts, mini cannolis, just amazing. I never knew what an Italian cookie was supposed to taste like until I had one here - so good! I felt like a total fat kid. But one that had gone to sweet, sweet heaven. The downsides: 1) The bartenders did not pour their mixed drinks with a heavy hand at all. They pretty much filled up the glasses completely with ice and then put a dash of your liquor choice in there and fill the rest with your mixer. While the reception I went to was open bar, I would recommend that any one who has to pay for their drinks purchase wine or beer instead. With over a half-dozen drinks and two shots in my system and still looking for the train to tipsyville, I knew someone made a mistake somewhere. 2) Since this venue has numerous weddings/parties going on at once, there's a little directory telling you where to go. In the case of my friend's wedding, they messed it up saying where the ceremony was and where the reception was. The problem was that the ceremony had been at a church, which left a lot of us attendees quite confused when we were looking for the cocktail hour and couldn't find where to go. And while the Brownstone is in Paterson, there's a number of ways to drive to it without scaring your white ass. Look at a map and ask a local. read more

I had my bridal shower over the weekend there and it was incredible. The food is amazing and they venue is gorgeous. The amount of food they give you for the price is well worth it. The Brownstone is an iconic property - over the years I've attended many celebrations here - ranging from weddings to bar mitzvahs to class reunions. The party rooms overall - and the bar inside the Red Room in particular - take you back to an era past. The food and service are pretty good. My one suggestion to management is to leave more time in between parties to avoid the feel of a "wedding factory." Parties are stacked on top of parties, and vendors and families must scramble. The long and short of it; Attended an event in June 2019. Great cocktail hour, the main course- mediocre. That said, they overbooked the room which meant we waited over a 1/2 hour to be seated. To add insult to injury, my father's suit jacket was damaged by one of the chairs. In the beginning, apologies were offered and they explained, "these things happen". Of course they do, I understand everyone is busy, but when the business owner doesn't reply back to your emails about payment towards the suit jacket, that's just bad business and unacceptable. Shame on There's nothing disingenuous about my review. It would be prudent for a business owner to appeal versus chastise their patrons. Consider feedback a gift, an opportunity to assess changes. read more

Had a " beefsteak fundraiser" at Brownstone on 3/27/18. This was a fundraiser for special needs adults. First off, I have over 32 years experience in high end hospitality& good service. This has to be the worst beefsteak that I have ever had. Service was disorganized, sloppy, and haphazard. Food was overcooked and tasteless. I have not been to this establishment for many years due to overpriced and mediocre food. This time it has really sealed my opinion of the Brownstone. They should be ashamed of what they put out and expecting to be paid. This was a charity event. When I spoke with the staff on how awful it was, they had nothing but arrogance and excuses. This is my third time coming here. It was a nice evening. Food was ok. But service is not exactly pleasant. As soon as I get to the bar, no welcoming commentaries just a very curt we don't serve Hennessy or Remy. I get it that maybe the host didn't pay for top shelf liquor, but you didn't let me get a word in. I was also put off with the fact that many family members who were not even finished with their meal had it taken away, without even being asked. I've been meaning to write this review for quite some time but haven't had the chance. I had my bridal shower here in Nov. I've been coming to the Brownstone for years and even had my sweet 16 here. Food has always been great. My party was smaller so I chose the small conservatory due to the beautiful decor. My mom and MOH were handling the details and when they called 2 weeks prior to the event, they were told there was no record of my shower. in the books which made my mom extremely worried. Turns out, there was a "system glitch" and the room was double booked. I started getting involved in the planning because this sounded unorganized. When I went to meet in person, I got the vibe that they wanted me to choose another room but I remained firm that this is what we were promised. I wanted to be heavily involved in the menu choosing because my fiancé and future in laws don't eat pork for religious reasons. I asked them to serve the pork separately which they said wouldn't be a problem. On the day of, the pork was right next to the other foods which made me embarrassed because I promised my guests I would be mindful of this. We also paid extra for a specific naked cake with WHIPPED cream frosting. I was extremely specific that I did not want buttercream because I HATE buttercream. Sure enough, it was buttercream. Overall my experience wasn't a bad one but it wasn't great either. These small details add up and cause customers to lose trust. I do hope this was just an off time for them but sad that I didn't experience them at their best. read more

I attended a 1st birthday here. It was very nice. There was some selection of food. It was a brunch. There was champagne and hard liquor available but no beer. A little odd in my opinion. The food was ok nothing too special. The fruit selection definitely impressed me. When I went to the bathroom it did not impress me. There was tape on the lock of one of the bathroom stalls and it didn't lock. There definitely needs to be upgrades in there. The place seemed a little outdated and catered to older crowd. The bartender was awesome and did a great job. The servers did a great job. Thanks Al for responding to my review! I appreciate the feedback! read more
