As burger places go, this one is solid. The burgers are good, the portions are good. If you get the lettuce wrapped burger, expect to go through a lot of paper towels. That's not a complaint, it's a measure of a good burger. Lettuce doesn't soak up any juices, so if you can eat a burger with the lettuce wrap instead of bun and not get messy, it's not a great burger. Their burger will get you messy. read more

I've been about 3 times now for lunch, and have found the burgers to be delicious on their own. I do appreciate the topping options, and the BBQ and Teriyaki burgers are especially good if you like flavorful and messy. I especially appreciate their bun options, including a gluten free option for our daughter. It's also great that they offer different 'done-ness', and medium rare comes out perfect, slightly juicy and very tender. Whatever meat or grind they're using just makes for a perfect burger. The fries, while standard, are also incredibly good. The garlic fries are also worth giving a try. I've been here a few times, and plan to make it a pretty regular lunch spot. read more

I went here the other day and it was absolutely REVOLTING. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by the rudest manager I have ever met. I believe his name is Eddie. When I tried to order he told me that "a girl of my size shouldn't be ordering something like that". It was literally a burger and fries. I continued with the transaction anyways because I was hungry and in a rush to be somewhere. Once I FINALLY got my food after god knows how long, there was a nasty cockroach cooked into one of the fries. Poor thing was burnt to a crisp. Literally. On top of that I had diarrhea for three days exactly. I was so scared that there was something actually wrong with me that I went to the doctor. He told me I didn't have food poisoning luckily- although that's hard to believe as it felt like someone had stabbed my guts and asshole with a box cutter. If it were possible I would give this place 0 stars. How unfortunate. I know multiple other people who were treated terribly by the same manager. I would recommend this place for people who have always wanted to be on fear factor or want to feel like they're the kid getting screamed at in one of those "scared straight" programs. The burger was so good. The only thing that could make it better was if the patty was flattened to be wider and there was meat in every bite. The jalapeno bun was not worth the extra charge so I would skip that next time. The fries were delicious. The lady charged us two combos even though I said no combo for me. Got the wife a bacon and cheese and ordered a loaded fries to share. $6.99 for the fries I was expecting a little portion and no bacon like most places in northern VA but I got WAY more than expected. The burgers are so greasy, they explode when you bite them. Also, there is a significant puddle of grease in your plate that makes your fries soggy. Beyond food, the staff is very friendly. This place rocks. The owner/manager Is not only one of the nicest guys around, but he's also experienced and extraordinarily gifted at running his place. The food is fresh and delicious, the service is incomparable in cordiality, promptness, and exactitude; and the place is spic and span clean. The outdoor seating is ample and comfortable, the ambiance indoors is warm and friendly; and both kids and adults feel right at home. If I could eat every meal at Burger Shack, believe me, I would. Patty melts are my favorite; my BFF can't get enough of the sweet potato fries; the Greek salad is amazing; and the build-your-own burgers are mighty fine. Turkey burgers tend to be dry but Burger Shack does it right and it's a hot fresh juicy burger. Tater tots and ranch are delish! And don't forget the milkshakes! The burgers are dripping with grease. If that is your bag, go for it. Even my teen boy thought it too greasy and only ate half staring he would make himself a sandwich at home later. It made a puddle on the plate and made the bun disinigrate into mush. They must use burgers that are ground fat filled chuck meat. I can honestly say I dont think I've ever ate something so greasy in my life. Makes 5 guys look like health food. Don't think the fries were fresh either, I'd bet they come frozen out of a bag. And the buffalo chicken sandwich we ordered our little guy, too awful to even post about. Just steer very clear of that.
