We had been putting visiting this place off for a while. How good can veggie burgers be at a burger joint? Honestly: they can be VERY GOOD. When we arrived there was a line to the door. We got in line, grabbed a menu, and looked at our choices. There were a handful of veggie burgers and a veggie hot dog! We got the spinach burger and the black bean burger. Mmmm they were hot and fresh. We preferred the black bean burger slightly over the spinach as it had more flavor, but really, we could go for both again. Next time we go we're trying something else and getting that veggie hot dog. Will we like it better? Will we like it less? It won't change the star rating for us as we're thrilled they carry numerous veggie options and they already have food we enjoy! read more

Came here with my boyfriend for lunch and just love the Quality of the burgers. Price was not bad at all. I unfortunately lost the photos and videos I took of the place. Parking is tight, however there was not many people there when we went. They do have outside and indoor seating as well as pickup. I am not sure if they deliver or not. I will be going back. This is the hidden gem around the Chantilly / Centreville area. Their burgers are solid and it is one of the best I've had in the area. I always go for their Pineapple Teriyaki Burger or Ring of Fire. I ordered my burgers in medium rare and they made it just right. For fries, I would recommend their loaded fries. The portion is for 2-3 people and you just can't go wrong with it. * The parking here can get real crowded. There are very limited parking spaces in front of the restaurant. We got a Build-A-Burger with Pretzel Bun (provolone, bacon, grilled mushrooms, and grilled onions) and BBQ Bacon Cheddar Burger with Pretzel Bun. We ordered three different burgers from here tonight using Grub Hub. The order was correct and the driver picked it up quick, but took a bit to get here because they delivered another order first. When it got here the food was cold, but the burgers still tasted pretty good. The fries were not tasty because they were cold, but if you were to eat them in person they are good when still warm. The food arrived in styrofoam containers so maybe another type of to go container would work better to prevent soggy fries. We have ate at this restaurant before and they have a small dining room with a fast food type ordering system. They have very limited seating and parking here, but they are worth a visit. read more

This was my first visit to this place. Food is great with a favorable place for families with kids though not spacious. Reasonable prices for very good quality food. Every thing in the menu is separate. However whether you're going for a burger only or a combo, a meal is easily customizable if you're a picky eater. Disclaimer: This review is solely about their customer service and not their food. If you don't care about that aspect, then by all means, I recommend Burger Shack--they have tasty burgers with great toppings, and their garlic Parmesan fries are delicious. I feel like such a Karen writing this review, so bear with me. I really loved Burger Shack (see my previous 5 star review). But in recent visits, the people taking orders act like they hate that you're there. Maybe they can afford to not be friendly now because of how many people patronize their business... I know food service gets tiring, and not everyone can be 100% all the time, but I've noticed a consistent decline in their affability over the past couple years. I admit that my stomach pulled kind of a d*ck move tonight when it decided it wanted burgers at 8:30pm; they close at 9. I decided to call the restaurant right then to ask if they would take an order over the phone, because I'd hate to walk in 5 minutes before closing to place an order or be turned away. They picked up, said "please hold" before I could say anything, and then kept me on hold for almost ten minutes; meanwhile i was on my way there so i could pay for and pick up the food right away, should they come back to my call to take my order. After 10 minutes, I figured I had been forgotten, so I hung up and called again--it rang for a while, but suddenly stopped ringing as if someone picked up, yet I heard no one's voice. Thinking my phone had messed up somehow, I called once more, but this time they straight-up hung up on me after picking up. At this point I had arrived at the restaurant, and my boyfriend went in to ask if they would still take an order because we had been calling, and a guy very condescendingly said "NO, we close in FIVE minutes." Dude, if you had just picked up the phone when we called and said "We aren't taking any more orders tonight," it would have saved both my time/energy and yours. It costs you $0.00 to be courteous. In fact, it costs you money (and energy) to be rude and angry with customers. I also get that they are likely understaffed, which leads to the employees feeling frustrated with operations and taking it out (inadvertently or not) on the customers. Ok which case the rudeness is just symptomatic of the actual problem, i.e. poor management. read more

Rating Burger Shack 4 stars. They have amazing burgers but the French fries were disappointing. Prices seem comparable to other burger joints but I will say they are a top burger spot in the Fairfax/Chantilly area. Fried pickles were ok, nothing to brag about. Move over Five Guys, this is where it's at! I popped over to this spot while doing some Saturday errands in Chantilly last weekend. I've never noticed this hidden gem on Route 50 before and I frequently drive up/down that road, but I'm so glad my daughter suggested it (having been here before). Blink, and you'll miss it. I ordered the Classic burger and it was really juicy, but maybe a tad too greasy, which I didn't mind, being that this is a rare treat that I allow myself. My first time visiting this place and I was very disappointed by the RUDE cooks, because I ordered 2 classic burgers cooked medium and the fries with garlic parmesan. The food came to the table and one burger was med rare (BLOODY) there was a puddle of bloody juice in the container under the burger and the fries were COLD. There was a young boy there that could teach the cooks what customer service is all about. The cook was arguing with my wife saying its medium and clearly it was not so we showed her the other burger which was cooked medium so she grabbed the burger and took it off the bun and microwaved it after we asked for a fresh one. Then the fries came again with a greasy sauce or mess on them that was supposed to be garlic Parmesan. One thing that is difficult is the parking situation. There are barely any spots and usually, the space is too tight to get through when multiple cars are lined up. However, tonight's meal was delicious. We ordered a build your own burger - kept it traditional with lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo and then we tried their West Coast burger (7oz burger, avocado, cucumbers and bacon with added lettuce and tomato). Both burgers were cooked to medium perfection - which is uncommon. Normally no matter what temperature you order at most burger joints the meat is well done. The West Coast burger was delicious!! We also ordered a 6 count of their wings and an order of fries. The fries were soooo good and piping hot. This place is such a hole in the wall. Who would have thought a small shack near a road would be the BEST burgers. The place has limited seating and parking, so beware for busy weekend nights! My boyfriend and I went during a Saturday night and the place was PACKED. We had to parallel park and wait for a table to open up after we ordered the food. Now for the food reviews... Sunrise burger: I got the thousand island dressing on the side and substitute the texas toast bread for brioche bread! Best decision! The burger itself was super FLAVORFUL and it didnt need a fancy bun! The quality of the meat patty and bacon was incredible. We asked for the burger to be medium rare, but got it as well done. It was a super busy night, so we understand why it was more cooked than what it was suppose to be. Despite the burger being well done, it was still juicy! After reading so many 4-5 star reviews on this place, my burgerholic self had to give them a try. I built my own burger and had swirly fries and tots. Let me just say that I was very disappointed. The burger was very bland. The fries and tots tasted like they were frozen. BLUF: Something big has changed for the worse in the past few months. I've been to this location in Chantilly previously, and have really liked the burgers. I feel like something big must have changed recently - ownership, local management, cooking procedure, supplier -or all if the above. This wasn't a bad one off, that happens, this felt like a different restaurant. The thing claimed to be a burger: I ordered the classic cheeseburger combo, medium well (ground beef and all). Service was fine. When I received the burger I noticed immediately the patty was much smaller than the bun. Okay. First bite, and god it was dry. I tried another bite to make sure I got some meat, and realized I should have stopped at one. Or maybe none. The bun was not toasted, the meat was dry, but at the same time had a poor crust. I also don't think there was any seasoning in the meat including salt. If I wanted to replicate this burger at home I think I would have to. * Buy a bulk bag of ground beef, pull out a maybe 1/3 to 1/2 lb ball - don't quite flatten it so it's thicker in the center. *Get a griddle up to maybe 200. Not to hot, no one wants crust. Let the burger cook for awhile to drive off juices *Now put the burger in the oven, lets drive out some more moisture. *Back on the 200 degree griddle to get a dense 1/8 ring of leather *At no point should any salt, pepper, or other seasoning be allowed near the burger - 15 ft containment radius *Toast the bun on the tepid 200 degree griddle for maybe 1 second. We are going for homeopathic toasting, it's a new thing. It's okay use normal lettuce and tomato and a slice of American cheese (this was all fine) - the burger is already done for. If this sounds good to you then you can follow the instructions at home and save yourself 16 bucks. If owners see this you can check with your staff, I was there about 2pm on aug 2nd, and let them know that the burger was awful as I threw it away and left. I hope whatever changes you made for efficiency, cost savings, or just letting go whomever knew how to actually make a good burger can be unwound, because you used to be great. RIP read more

The shakes were very good but I didn't finish the buffalo chicken sandwich as it had a weird aftertaste. That's the first time I haven't enjoyed a Buffalo chicken, I don't think that's hard to get right. My friend said his burger was ok, but nothing special. The Burger Shack always hits the spot! Their burgers are so juicy, delicious, and flavorful. Their specialty burgers are great, but I like to just build my own burger. They have tons of topping options (some free and some for an additional cost). They cooked my burger perfectly to my requested medium. I do wish they gave a little bit more lettuce, I like a nice fresh crunch of vegetable to balance the greasiness of a beef patty. Their sides are also incredible. I love their loaded tots and curly fries. I find that a lot of restaurants just don't cook them long enough to get a nice crunch and can even be a bit soft but Burger Shack's fries are always so crispy and seasoned perfectly. I would recommend calling in to order ahead of time. The restaurant is very small and always crowded so if you want to avoid waiting for 15-20 minutes in the very small space (especially during COVID times), it's best to order ahead. If your Dad beat you with a belt, then you probably have scars that resemble The Buckle Shack. Granted, the buffalo wings have nothing on those up in Buffalo - but they were a good effort. This might be the best burger I've ever had. Perfectly prepared, fast service and all fresh food. I could care less about ambiance. It's a classic burger joint. Parking is limited in front of the building but street parking is easy. One suggestion for the owner. And it's an easy one to do. Please consider putting chair leg protectors on the seats. Seriously not edible as a sandwich with the amount of dry bread. Been waiting to try this place for awhile with the high reviews and quite disappointed. Pros- diverse menu, generous portions and decent prices. Ordered the fish filets due to a good review- bland and not fresh, could have been any meat; the fries were good. The patty melt was dry and the meat didn't cover the bread and the onion rings were soggy. Call ahead because wait is long and there is limited parking and not much space inside especially with social distancing. Under normal conditions, I'd give them a 3, possibly a four. Today's rating is much lower due to unhygienic practices. Of the four workers I saw, none of them had their masks on fully. Two women had their noses exposed, the girl waiting for the food to be put on the counter had no gloves and kept leaning her elbows on the plastic bags and her mask was down her face and the guy behind the counter packing the food had gloves but his mask was way down his face and I could see his lips. I didn't feel comfortable eating when I got home and took all the food and baked it in the oven some more and put all the food into new containers and trashed their sauces. The food was not that good at all, I don't know how anyone could think it was. The hot dogs don't seem like they're actually all beef, and the buns for the 4oz patties were way too big. On top of that, the ladies' room was really gross. Also, the prices were way too high for what you get. They really need to step it up and improve.
