This used to be my go to burger place but the last two times I've eaten here; I was not satisfied with the burgers. I usually get the West Coast burger which is a single beef patty with cucumber and avocado. The patty was so overcooked which made the burger dry and almost inedible. They also have other items in the menu but their burger is a must have along with the fries here which are super crispy! There's very limited indoor seating and outdoor seating. You just drive up to this place and you can tell it's a great local establishment. Parking lot and seating area definitely seem smaller, so I'm glad I didn't go at a busy time. I got the 4oz make your own burger (texas toast, bbq, pineapple, swiss) and garlic parm fries. I probably should've just picked a bun and not the toast because it was a lot of bread for a 4oz burger. It was cooked to order and tasted great though! Pineapple is my new favorite thing for a burger. The fries have a type of garlic parm sauce on them and I loved it. It made them a little wetter though so if you like super crispy fries, you should just go with the normal. The kitchen is all open and cooked right in front of you which I love to see. The Burger Shack in Chantilly, VA is truly one of the hidden gems of NOVA. Tucked away with just four parking spots off of route 50, they have a HUGE choice of selections and flavors. They have tons of vegetarian options, so I'll definitely be back to try all the different patties. They have a choice between black bean, beyond, portabella cap (mushroom), lentil, falafel, and tofu. This last trip, I got the Ring of Fire which is jalapeño, onion rings, pepper jack cheese, and sriracha mayo, served on a cheddar jalapeño bun with a portabella cap patty. We made an unplanned lunch stop to The Burger Shack today, not realizing I had it marked down. Go in and it's definitely no-frills. Nothing wrong wrong, but counter, some tables, and the smell of griddled beef. There were a lot more options than I had expected. I wasn't starving, so I went with the 3 cheeseburger sliders, my wife had a cheeseburger combo (fries and soda), and we accidentally ended up with an order of fried mac & cheese. I ordered sliders and said, "American cheese," the person at the counter said, "Cheeseburger sliders?", so I confirmed, "Yes, with American cheese." Tell me something has changed because I don't understand how this place has a 4.5 star rating. We were visiting from out of town and relied on the rating to presume it was good, but it is blah. The place looks like a shack so we contemplated on leaving, but didn't want to judge it based on the exterior and took the Yelp rating into account. Inside was much better and looked clean. There are a few tables for couples and parties of 4-5. There was nothing special about the food. One of the hot dogs was cold; they all were hard on the outside; nothing tasty about the loaded fries and tots (tots were crispy though) and the cheese wasn't melted; even the fountain drinks were watered down that we had to additionally buy soda bottles. I hate wasting money and food and we tossed out at least a third of $65 spent. I could have spent less at a fast food joint and everyone would have enjoyed what they ate with the right expectations. This place has a high bar set with that 4.5 rating and it missed the mark for us. We would not come back. read more

Checked this spot out yesterday (Saturday afternoon) for the first time. Cool, locally-owned spot down Rt. 50 in Chantilly that reminds me of Five Guys. Got there around 5:30 pm and there was basically no line, which was pleasantly surprising. While the spot reminded me a bit of Five Guys, their menu is much more versatile in their offerings (gourmet burgers, chili cheese and other loaded fries, wings, vegetarian options, salads, etc.). Despite the varied menu, I just ordered my basic usual - cheeseburger combo. What I really liked about this spot is, unlike Five Guys, you can get a combo with any sandwich (adding fries and a fountain drink) for only $3.99 more. At Five Guys I believe you have to order everything a la carte, which makes for a much pricier meal. The burgers are also a BIT cheaper here compared to Five Guys (with more variety of options as I mentioned earlier). The burger itself was great, basically right on level with Five Guys. So you don't get as many fries here as what Five Guys would load you up with, but it was an ample enough amount (especially given the price). Overall I'd say this spot offers a bit better value than Five Guys - essentially the same quality of burgers and fries at a cheaper price. Strongly recommend checking out if you've never been! I went to the original location in Chantilly but they've expanded to three locations now (other locations are in Alexandria and Ashburn). Place is more of a 4.5, but rounded up to 5 instead of 4 as you get a bit better value here I think relative to other specialty burger spots like Shake Shack, Five Guys, Good Stuff Eatery, etc.... read more

I've stopped by Burger Shack more than a few times with friends, whenever I'm in Chantilly, and enjoyed each visit. Nestled by the side of the road, Burger Shack might seem like a humble stand-alone spot, but it packs a flavorful punch. Despite its limited parking (less than 10 cars), it's a spot my friends and I find ourselves revisiting time and time again. Their burgers haven't missed on the times I've went. I usually go for the custom 7 oz burger, and it hasn't disappointed. It's a savory delight that's easy on the wallet, making the entire experience even more worthwhile. There is also a nice ketchup dispenser and cups available on the side for customer's convenience. As for the sides, sweet potato fries are my personal favorite. But if that's not your jam, they also offer curly fires and classic fries as well, a wide variety. Service is straightforward and decent. Staff get the job done in a timely manner. There's a casual and cozy ambiance, adequate seating, and one TV on the wall. Burger Shack stands out! They definitely specialize in making a good burger at an affordable price. Ordered for pickup ahead of time, and when I got there, I had to wait an additional 20 mins cause they are so busy. Once I got my burger, I went to town on it. I've seen this spot a few times but never stopped till recently. It's sorta a hole in the wall spot but the burgers were good. I think I'd try a specialized burger next time because I just picked out toppings for mine and it didn't feel like anything too special. The fries were just way too salty for my taste. I think they're going for a season salt kinda feel but it was too much for me. I questioned the cleanliness of the place a bit too but this is that kinda spot where I guess that's to be expected. My only knock is that I wish the burger was chargrilled vs cooked on a griddle and I found my patty to be overly salted. Burger meat patty was actually burnt on the top (charred to the point where it's crispy and dry)- refer to pic. The bacon on the tots was the cheap "fake shredded bacon you can buy from Costco". Meh, I mean if you're going to charge $8 for a side, at least make your own bacon crumbles. No thanks. Food was edible but no way does it deserve the stars it has.
