Small burger joint nestled right off route 50. Surprisingly very high foot traffic in the restaurant despite a small parking lot. Given that, I'd recommend calling in ahead of time to place your order. I visited on a Sunday evening and waited 15-20 minutes for my burger + wings to be ready. In a small restaurant during COVID, it's not the most ideal scenario, but I wish they had some sort of window to pick up orders. My order consisted of a Build-a-Burger of the 7 oz. (medium rare) on wheat bread, select free toppings, Avocado ($1), and onion rings ($0.75). I also ordered 12 honey BBQ wings. Initially, I wanted to order their buffalo wings (mild or hot), however they were sold out of these flavors. To my surprise though, the honey BBQ wings were not bad and were actually pretty good, albeit being a bit small/medium sized. On the burger, I had very high hopes given all the positive reviews here, but was not amazed. It seemed to be quite a standard burger, kind of char-grilled like, but was on the drier side for me. Additionally, my burger was a bit soggy after my 8-10 minute drive home. The wheat bread tasted very bland compared to other wheat breads that I've eaten at other restaurants. The average taste of the burger coupled with the long waits and not optimal location makes this 3 stars for me. I would however come back here to try their buffalo wings as they have some of the better wings in the area. read more

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious lunch here today! We arrived shortly after opening and it was surprisingly busy moments after we were seated. We ordered a custom 7oz angus cheeseburger, the sunrise burger and loaded tater tots. The tater tots are definitely big enough to share. Everything was delicious! I was surprised how great the sunrise burger on Texas toast was, while the "bun" doesn't sound like the most delicious combination...it was. Order it and you won't regret it! Oh my damn .... always driven by this place but finally decided to drop and and give it a try .... so totally not disappointed!!!! Small place with seating inside for 32 and outside maybe a dozen Cool thing about this place is that is has history built into it (see historic signage pic) This place is awesome for a few reasons... 1- the burgers 2- the non burger foods including Chicago style dogs 3- parmesan garlic fries 4- has options for vegan/vegetarians Everything is made to order so you can customize anything on the menu to however you like, if you can't decide and overwhelmed by what you can do to your meal ... they have prefixes specialties that you can choose from and add or adjust to other if you like .. The Burger Shack is quite quirky. The building emulates the architecture of the colonial era. It's small, cute, and cozy. The only bad thing about this place is the limited parking. There are about six or seven spots. Luckily I found a spot because I visited after the lunch rush. I ordered a black bean burger. It comes with a spicy salsa and guacamole. Many burger spots only have one or two vegetarian choices. But this place has a few vegan/vegetarian options. So, I was happy about that. I like that the patty wasn't mushy. I only waited a few minutes for the burger to be prepared. Service was quick and friendly enough. Overall, 4 point something stars. read more

There is not a ton of parking here but a decent amount of seating. The workers are very attentive and friendly. This is a place where you order at the front and then they bring you your food and then leave you alone. I really want to try their French fry creations because they look to die for. I got the burger that is on the Texas toast and it was super juicy and delicious. My only complaint is how expensive a single burger was with no sides. Overall I would come again to try more things but I would be here way more often if the prices came down a bit. read more

It's a little bit of a jaunt from my place in Arlington, but definitely worth it. My wife loves a good burger, but she's very picky and The Burger Shack got her approval. I will try to break this review down item by item, as I got myself $16 worth of food here, and probably will not do that again. I will even discuss the location of the restaurant too, if that will help. RESTAURANT The location of the restaurant is great. It is right off US 50 in Chantilly, close by Dulles Airport. You just cannot zoom past it, or you will miss it, like I did. Unfortunately parking is thin, so either you will have to park on the street, or be willing to walk a ways, because parking at the restaurant proper has only maybe 4 spaces, that's it. FOOD The meat of the review. I got myself a Chocolate Peanut Butter cup milkshake with a hamburger that I built. I had it with fries, and on the burger I got an egg, cheddar cheese, and bacon. I guess you could call it a brunch burger if you will. The milkshake was good. It was creamy and had plenty of taste of peanut butter and chocolate. But it is pretty small and some of it melted too fast and turned to soup. The burger was really good. You can get it in two sizes, 4 oz or 7 oz. I got the 4 oz. It is a big hunk of meat and the cheese just melts into the patty. The egg was a great addition too! Even if I have to pay an extra .75 cents for it, it was worth it. It was not too runny, and it complemented everything well. The bacon was crisp and well done. What I especially liked was that they did not ruin it by using some crazy roll. One rule about burgers, the burger is the rock star of this great sandwich, not the bun. However, I do believe if you take a lot of pride in what you are making, you need to put that much effort into what you are building. You do not need a crazy flavorful bun to take it over the top. A simple buttered brioche or potato bun will work here, no need for that jalapeño bun or any of their other crazy concoctions. As much as these items were good, I was not a fan of the fries. These were heavily seasoned to the point of overkill. There are plenty of condiments to satisfy all pallets, but the pepper and salt are enough to raise anybody's blood pressure by an extra point or two. CONCLUSION Would I come back here? Absolutely. The burger was plump and juicy and the prices backed up the product. The speed of service was also quite quick but slow enough to show they take pride in their craft. That's how you make a good burger, without feeling like McDonald's or Five Guys. read more

The tots, along with the french fries from the hot dog combo, stayed nice and crunchy even after a long 15-20 minute ride home. + Everything was made to order. + Friendly cashier and staff. - The burger prices are a bit high, and it looked like they use frozen beef that is thawed and stored right below the grill. - Poor ventilation. Next to car wash we go to, and not as I have expected from the reviews. Once inside... you will notice their poor ventilation system, therefore; the smell and smoke crowds the area. The floors are not very clean or been mopped for sometime, you feel the stickiness as you walk through the place. The choice of the buns offered from the menu are poorly placed, as if they were just thrown there with no cares of the world. Quality food in a neat location. The service was extremely friendly and helpful, which made us feel at home. The garlic Parmesan fries were fantastic. Probably better than the burger, in my opinion. I went to the Burger Shack with the intent on falling in love with their Chicago dog. BUT, I can't go to the Burger Shack without trying a burger. First off, I've never had a proper Chicago dog, so I have nothing to compare it to. The staff are great, they're patient considering how much is going on in their restaurant. The dining room is small, maybe fits about 15-20. It's got a self serve soda machine and some outdoor seating as well. Parking is even more limited than the seating, so beware, you may have to just parallel park on the street across from BS. So, my food wasn't hot, more lukewarm/room temp. The Chicago dog was ok, I'm sure it would have been delicious if it was hot, but I still don't get what the draw is. I opted to try the sliders instead of a proper burger and I did enjoy those more than the hotdog. I'm guessing I'm the minority in thinking the food here is only a-ok, but I can appreciate that BS is a great neighborhood joint - especially since the tables and parking lot were always full for the 45 minutes I spent there. read more

Wow! Nice little gem! It's not often a pescatarian finds a burger joint to indulge at but the Burger Shack is it. I had the beyond meat burger and it was delish! Was the thickest burger patty I've had and it was tasty and filling! The price point was just right, the burger was amazing, the fries were good... you should try! My wife had the 4ox angus beef burger which she said was larger than expected and cooked to perfection... medium well as ordered. We also had the 3 piece cod fish. I'd pass on those in the future. I mean, it is a burger joint... why would I get fish? They were meaty and flaky but just not their specialty. Happy to find this gem! Will definitely be back. Above average burger, above average price. Had to stop by this charming hole in the wall after my oil change at the jiffy lube next door. It's in a historic building, which my nerdy self found cool. Parking is limited, I parked parallel on the road as the 4 restaurant spots were full. Nice interior. I got the Ring of Fire burger which featured an onion ring, fresh jalapeno slices, siracha mayo and a cheesy-jalapeno bun. It was a solid burger. The patty was pretty thick, a difference from a lot of "shack" type burger places I've been to. The patty kind of overpowered the toppings, which I'm personally not a fan of. It was good, but I've debatably had better burgers at Red Robin. The burger cost 9.97, and DOES NOT COME WITH fries or drink. That costs 3.50 extra. So my total was 14 bucks. Definitely more than I wanted to spend.. you can get a burger with bottomless fries and drink at red Robin for what, 9 or 10 bucks? Anyways point of the story is, this place is good, not as good as the yelp reviews would suggest (for me anyways). If you're on this side of Chantilly, check it out. I wouldn't go out of my way. This small burger shack gave good service and made one of the best burgers I have ate! We are from California, here for a vacation & figured to look up a place on Yelp. The wait wasn't long, the food was fresh/hot, and the staff's service was on point by bringing our food to our table. Yes, this is a fast food restaurant, however it felt more than that due to the staff! We will be eating here again before we leave back to California! Went to the location tonight and arrived at 8:52pm. When we entered and stood at the counter the associate came up looked at the clock and said they were closed. I would think if you close at 9:00pm you should be open for business until 9. If you want to close at 8:45 then post your hours accordingly. The portions they give were huge, but the chili tasted like it was microwaved from a can and they didn't even try to doctor it up (bitter, lacking flavor, terrible aftertaste). Excellent burgers, however you like em. Tastes fresh, made to order. Gluten free bun options too! I even love their Chicken on Fire sandwich if I want something other than a burger. Loaded tots are delish. I hear their hot wings are excellent, but I can't take the heat! They have takeout, but expect a little bit of a wait; remember, it's not fast food! They have a few outdoor tables, so if you're bringing your pooch you can dine alfresco with your furry friend.
