I try to only buy my beef here. One of the few places in Franklin I can consistently find tritip and brisket (at least with the fat-cap still on). The staff is friendly, the meet is great quality, and the location is close to my office, which is really convenient. Their hours are much better now! I am married to a picky eater, he will agree with that statement. My regular groceries at bought at Publix, but hubby does not care for Publix's meat. Sometimes I will buy chicken or pork from Whole Foods, but if the objective is a dinner party serving anything other than beef, I try to head here. (And to clarify, we live in Franklin but have a farm in Maury county where we raise our own beef, thus the "non beef" purchase statement). This is a cute little store with lots of yummy things, and if you were just buying the meat portion - it's not cheap, but not uber expensive, either. I've had some great individually packaged stuffed chicken breasts that were pricey, but that's pricey in the regular stores, too. Their pork cuts were quite reasonable, and ribs as well. I am often lured by the packaged sides - tomato and cucumber salad, a great looking chicken salad, that will whallop your wallet even more. I do the same thing at Whole Foods in their prepared aisle, too, so it's not like one choice is way better for me. We have really been in about 8 times, and never been disappointed. Would've been in more, but again - their hours stink, so that's all I could manage. read more

GREAT QUALITY MEAT, AMAZING TASTE & FANTASTIC PRICE!! This is the only place to get your meat! The customer service is even on point! The ground beef is really where you taste the difference. I am not great at explaining things but the ground beef and the steaks are so amazing and so clean that it is almost like you can taste the grass the cow ate and the sunshine that grew the grass. Ate lunch here and had the Italian sandwich and the chicken and rice soup both were outstanding. The soup has another restaurants (Demos) soup beat by a country mile. It was absolutely loaded with large chunks of chicken and lots of rice. The sandwich was equally as good and had a great variety of meats on it and the veggies were fresh and they are not afraid of condiments the sandwich was dressed with spicy mustard and mayo which they do not skimp on (hate it when a restaurant is afraid of mayo and go skimpy on you) The items items in the meat case looked great I will definitely be going back for a steak and their homemade sausages and most definitely be back for lunch again. The prices are good and the staff are very friendly and helpful they will answer any questions you have about the items they sell and they seem very knowledgeable about their products. I was so excited when my husband told me he bought filets from a butcher rather than getting them from the grocery store or Costco per usual. At approximately $50/lb., I was expecting to really enjoy my dinner. The whole family was sorely dissappointed. These steaks tasted like something you would get from Kroger or Omaha steaks. So, if you like those, then pay this outlandish amount and go for it. We however will spend the money on a Costco tenderloin and cut our own from now on. Called this place on Thursday to reserve two racks of beef ribs for Saturday, the guy who answered the phone took my name, number and told me to stop by and pick it up on Saturday morning. Got there, I was told they don't even keep beef ribs in stock. Then I asked the butcher to cut me a top sirloin cap, who by the way seemed like a nice guy, he cut me the cap, called it a tri tip and charged me almost 14$ a pound for it; that's more than twice as much as any other shop I've been to including publix. Won't be coming here anymore EVER, which is a bummer since they are so close to me. read more

Had heard good things about this place, but unfortunately my experience was strange. I've never had a butcher argue with me about the size of the steak I've asked to be cut. Yes, I understand that a 14 oz. Filet is a large piece. No, I don't want the 8 oz. bacon wrapped one. After explaining to the butcher what I wanted, he goes in the back and brings out another guy to argue with me. In a bind I needed some brisket for a BBQ cookoff in Nashville. I looked at their hours, they were not set to open for another couple of hours, on a whim I called and a very nice lady answered, I told her of my dilemma and she said "when can you be here?" I was right down the street, she said "knock on the door when you get here" sure enough, I knocked on the door even though they were closed, a nice gentleman said "are you here for the brisket?" I said yes, he had everything right there at the counter ready to go, in and out in 2 minutes with one of the biggest, nicest brisket I have ever seen!!! I will be back, without a doubt. The meat there also appears to be very quality and freshly cut, however the prices for fresh meat reflect a healthy premium over public, or even whole foods. Family business that the "owners are never there" according to their staff? Bad experience and clearly this person doesn't care! I've been a long-time customer through 3 owners - Not anymore! The story: Pre-ordered "center-cut beef tenderloins choice steaks, bacon-wrapped" as we've done for years at 2 pm this past Saturday. My wife went to pick them up at 3:30. Lady looked for them but they weren't ready. The steaks that were hastily cut weren't center-cut, one of them had a was a vein of tough fat that I had to cut out, my wife remarked that with hers she had fat she wasn't used to seeing after being cooked. I'm a business owner so I attempted to let another business owner my experience. Called Sunday and was told the owner would be in Monday. I wasn't able to call Monday but called Tuesday and told the owner is "never in." I would never have had this experience when Bruce and Donna owned it. I will not be back! read more

We had been shopping Butcher Block for past 3 years and were thrilled when we moved to Franklin to find a quality Butcher Shop. Since the new owners ( Gray's) have taken over we have had one bad experience after another. This week tried to order Standing Rib Roast plus a blend of ground beef. We were told by person on phone not sure if they could grind the blend of beef and would get back to us even though we had been ordering this for the past few years. Three days later no call back and when we tried to call back we were put on hold , after 10 minutes hung up. We even tried to follow up again later and could only leave a message but still no call back. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE , you would think we were buying from Walmart. The owners Donna and Bruce always gave FABULOUS Service . It is extremely disappointing to do business with the Grays which look to be new owners. We will not be back !!!!!!!!! read more

I checked out "The Butcher Block" because I had read that they had good soups. But when I got there, I also found that they had a great selection of meats and poultry. They have weekly specials that are a real bargan. I bought 6- 8oz rib eyes that looked better than I've seen anywhere for $23.99. They have prepared foods to take out such as meat loaf, macaroni and cheese, red potato salad and fresh garden salads. All at very resonable prices. Oh, and the soup I had was potato and it was the best ever as was the Italian sandwich I had with it. This is a great place to run in for fresh meats, poultry, various seafood, deli sandwiches and soup and something already prepared to take home for dinner. Watch for those specials! read more

This small family owned business has swayed me from getting my meat/seafood from any where else. Sam, the butcher, helped me decide on the two most perfect looking steaks. I used to love eating at the Butcher Block....when the previous owners were there. I have given the new owners two try's and I am done. I went in today, ordered my usual, the chicken salad sandwich. That was the second worse sandwich I have ever had in my life. The first was a blackened smashed grilled cheese from some little deli in Smyrna. I want to suggest to the new owners to use the previous owners chicken salad recipe. It was outstanding. The salad today was thin, exceptionally sweet and if those were grapes, you could have fooled me. Whatever those things were, they neither looked nor tasted like grapes. They were pulverized, old tasting and disgusting. The bread was ordinary. The cut on the sandwich was uneven and the salad was thinly spread. My sandwich fell apart before I could get it out of the styrofoam container. The previous owners would put enough salad on thick bread so that you could actually taste the chicken, grapes, celery and MAYO not that sweet salad dressing. Never again. I hope they read this.
