We arrived at the Residence Inn in time for Happy Hour (Sun-Thu 5-7 pm), and Moda provided the right atmosphere to unwind after a long day of driving. $6 for a personal-sized HH pizza, $6 for delicious truffle fries, and $6 for a glass of house cabernet. I'm not sure if that particular pizza is available outside of happy hour for a higher price, but I was grateful it was an option for my picky eater. I also got the short rib mac & cheese ($18), which was very good and very rich. Sad to see that the bucatini has disappeared from the menu. What is available, is very good, however! The restaurant and bar area were not too busy on a Wednesday evening, which provided a comfortable, laidback atmosphere for my young child to explore a little. Hotel restaurants can be hit or miss - this was definitely a hit! After traveling we were happy to find this in our hotel. A variety of items were on the menu and the staff were all really pleasant. We enjoyed the feta dip with crostini for an app. Entrees included a couple of pasta dishes and a salad. Everything came out pretty quickly and was tasty. Great food for a hotel restaurant. I usually skip hotel restaurants. But we were staying at the Residence Inn next door and found this restaurant very convenient. Hummus plate was as good as any hummus plate in any restaurant I've ever been to. And I've ordered hummus many many times. Glazed salmon with shitake rice and broccolini was as good as any fish entre in any restaurant I've ever been to. And fairly priced, too! Cheese cake with cherry sauce was excellent, as well. Not sure why they call the sauce "tart" cherry sauce; it wasn't tart; I loved it. Ingredients tasted fresh. Service was excellent both times we visited. Wide variety of seating; booths and lounge chairs; some seats have outlets to plug in your phones. Would have visited more times had they been open in the afternoons. read more

We came in after the Chelsea game and it was extremely busy with everyone arriving at once! Things were moving slow as would be expected, but it seemed like the entire staff from bartenders, to servers, to management were hustling to the best of their ability. When food and cocktails reached us it was well prepared and a manager named Patrick stopped by to talk to us for a few minutes to explain and apologize. He seemed sincere and kind even though I saw a few guests being rude to him when he tried to explain the same things to them. We went for happy hour ( sun-tue, 5-7 pm) for the great prices on both drinks and appetizers. We started off with pretzel bites. They came with a type of mustard and cheese sauce. They weren't fresh, but still really good. Even though they don't have it listed, they do have a veggie patty to substitute to all the burgers if you just ask. I ordered a Moda Burger, both it and the fries it came with were delicious! After happy hour ended we ordered one more drink and I went with an holiday spritz. It was perfect! Hit the spot!!! During my stay last year at the Residence Inn, I was on my way to the parking lot to get something from my car and discovered Moda. Its located right in the main area of the hotel so you can't miss it. I was planning on going out that night but as the night went on it started to rain then pour!! My original plan was to go downtown or hit some of the bars in the area, but I decided on plan B due to rain. Plan B was to work out, catch up on work, watch a movie and get a good nights sleep for a change, but a person has to eat...right? I headed downstairs from my suite and went to MODA. There were people scattered about the restaurant area, some eating and some drinking some doing both. I saw some of the food that the other guests were eating and their plates were devoid of food (a ​good sign). I sat at the bar with a few other travellers and met some really cool people. The bartender was a really cool gal, whose name eludes me but she was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and the local craft beers that MODA served. When it came time to order I took my bartenders advice and ordered the soup of the day, a beef stew which looked like chilli​. For the main course this evening I tried the braised beef tacos AKA BARBACOA TACOS. Much to my delight the stew was on point and matched my beer perfectly. I switched beer for the second course, the tacos which were messy, like a taco should be, the braised beef was insanely good, juicy and tender. The street corn side was a really refreshing and interesting side. Hey!! I only tried two things but both were prepared right, and both were a good take on classic foods. I wish I knew about this restaurant at the beginning of the trip. Wouldn't have hit up Sonic so much. I came in to a relatively lively dinner crowd and sat at a booth. Ordered the roasted tomato soup and the wild mushroom pizza. The soup was amazing. Perfect amount of spice and cheese. I also enjoyed the pizza, though I would say the balsamic drizzle was a bit too sweet. Didn't stop me from eating almost the entire thing. I really wanted a steak, and I thought for a hotel restaurant the menu was a bit limited. Had great service the entire time. read more

Hmmmmm... how to review MODA? The food was quite good. The Chef's Perfect Sandwich was really good - pastrami, caramelized onions, on a pretzel roll. The MODA Salad was very good. Fries were tasty. Bar drinks were good. The kids options were great. Prices were a few dollars higher than they might have been, but not by too much. Here's the tough part - MODA is inside the new Marriott on Olentangy River Road, close to OSU and the Schottenstein Center. The hotel lobby, bar and restaurant are lovely. I wouldn't hesitate to have visiting friends stay here. We chose to dine at MODA because we had a concert at Schottenstein, and wanted to eat and drink nearby before heading over to the Schott. Service was very friendly, but noticeably slow. They were quick to seat us and quick to take our order, but food came out slow, follow-up was slow, and getting the check was slow. In fairness, they had a huge event going on in the hotel's big meeting space, and I'm sure the kitchen and servers were slammed taking care of the hundreds of people at the event. So... I'd give them 4+ stars for food, 4 stars for friendly service, 3 stars for ambiance (no matter how you dress it up, it's still the lobby of a nice Marriott), but would absolutely deduct 1 or 2 stars if there's a big event on property. If there's no event, MODA was great. If there's a big event, don't plan on getting in and out quickly... read more

I've heard it lamented that Clintonville/Campus has no real higher-end restaurant options. I think Moda fits that bill. Moda is located in the Marriott hotel, right inside the front door. It obviously has many different functions - hotel breakfast area, coffee stop, bar, and restaurant. We stopped for a late dinner, and the vibe was more of a bistro feel. We were able to seat ourselves in a large, comfortable booth. Although the space is large, it was not super noisy. We had great service here, with the server checking on us at the right intervals. The manager stopped by as well - professional service. ANYWAY. You're here to read about the food! If you're looking for gobs of greasy, cheap food - Denny's is down the street. Moda does their dishes on the higher-end. We ordered the hummus with pickled veggies ($9) and were a little disappointed at the size of the appetizer - until we tried it. How good can hummus be? It turns out there is a scale, and Moda got it right, with crisp, vinegar-sharp cauliflower and grilled flatbread. The spouse ordered the pastrami sandwich ($14) and pronounced it good. (Hey, this isn't NYC, you take what pastrami you can get out here.) His fries were excellent. I ordered the Farmer salad ($12) with salmon ($6). Good balance of flavors and textures - salmon was a great addition. Because the portions are appropriate, we were able to split a chocolate pot de creme for dessert. MODA located in the bar of the Marriott on Olentangy but don't let that throw you. The seating is intimate with the ambiance of a swanky NYC restaurant. Lounge in comfy chairs while sipping on signature cocktails and stay for dishes that indulge in quality ingredients serving some of the most sophisticated and flavorful plates in Columbus. Knowing Chef Corey is in charge, I recommend asking for the chef's recommendations but make sure to look over their menu to see what pops out at first glance. A menu that is intended to be seasonal, so new items are continually popping up alongside cocktails that pair perfectly with their dishes. Plus if you enjoy the cocktails a little too much, you can just get a room for the night! read more

We went here for restaurant week not knowing what to expect as the restaurant is in the Marriott. Its kind of hidden so we had to ask for directions based on the door we entered in. I was pleased with my selections: the beet salad, togarashi chicken, and the bread pudding. The only downside was that the bread pudding wasn't hot and was more dense than I expected. Overall, the food was tasty. The ambiance was distracting -- I wouldn't go here for a quiet date night as there are people walking through the restaurant at all times. This is such a beautiful place. The decor and the environment are amazing. Covers a nice meal or casual drinks at the fully stocked bar. The staff were very friendly. We had the crispy chicken appetizer, which was ironically not crispy at all. Kinda reminiscent of chick-fil a, but not as good. The burger was over cooked and loaded with far too much sauce. Fries were well seasoned so no complaints there. Overall, not a bad option if you're staying at this hotel. Otherwise definitely would not recommend making a trip to this place. read more

My husband, father and I went here after visiting my mother in the hospital nearby. I was pretty disappointed, with prices that are fairly expensive for the quality of food they offered. They had no vegetarian options on the menu, but when asked, offered several things that are not listed on the menu. I had the beet salad. It was extremely small, and the arugula was wilted. The blackbean burger, which was not on the menu and the waitress didn't know they even had, was good and bonus points for grilling the bun. However, the fries were soft, cold, and no seasoning. My husband ordered a second beer that never arrived. We needed to leave to return to the hospital, and my husband asked if we could get the check and to remove the beer. The waitress looked up at the bar, said "There it is!" And returned with the beer he no longer wanted. It also remained on the bill. In short, not worth the price or poor service. read more

Restaurant in a hotel. No signage in front of hotel and if it weren't for Yelp and google directions, I would have driven past it and never known it was there. Ambiance lacking. If you want a romantic spot or fun sports pub sort of place, then this isn't it. You feel like your in the middle of the hotel lobby. It's one big open area and no cordoned off areas for privacy intamacy. No one greats you and there isn't even any signage in the lobby to inform you of like, "hey this is moda and you're here." All that greets you is a tiny menu sitting atop a wooden barrel saying Moda on it. We came for dinner on a thursday night. Excellent bartender and good drinks. Attentive service. Went here for burger week! Who knew this place was inside a hotel that I've personally driven by probably over 10000 time. I had no clue. When I pulled in the parking lot I was confused, a drive around and parked in back then walked to the entrance. I told the attendant I was here for the burger week special and they pointed me in the direction of the bar. MODA is an open space right in the lobby. Theres tables and chairs for lounging, a bar, and a few booths. You walk in and sit and a waiter will be over shortly. I was given a menu and placed an order fast. The service was outstanding. I ordered the burger week special with jalapeno mayo and grilled onions, it was divine. I mean easily the best burger out of the places I went to for burger week. Make sure you tell them you're a guest of the restaurant, they asked if I wanted to put it on my room service LOL, I mean it is a hotel. I'm really looking forward to going back here to check out other items on the menu. read more

We stayed at the Marriott and ate here since it was in the hotel. Plenty of options for food and we ended getting BBQ Short Rib MAC n Cheese, Brussels sprouts and Turkey BLT. BLT was ok. The sprouts were surprisingly good. Never tasted ones seasoned that way. It was like sweet and sour. Saved the best for last. The Mac n Cheese was soooo good. BBQ short rib was not overwhelming as I thought it might be. It was tender and complimented the cheese sauce well and the sauce remained creamy the whole time and was not greasy or oily. Excellent food! We were staying at the Marriott to see a dance performance at Ohio State. First time in Columbus, and since we were on a time line, decided to eat at the hotel. We loved the food and service at dinner, we had the Asian chicken wings, Moda salad, chef's special sandwich and short rib sliders. All were excellent! Later after the performance we went back with our son's girlfriend, the dancer, who was hungry after the performance. Got there around 11 PM, service was slower. We asked for drinks and water, made it clear we were really parched, they took 15 minutes to get us water and drinks. The waitress did make sure our snack orders got in before the kitchen closed. Our son's girlfriend had the short rib nachos, and we shared the bread with mozzarella, pesto basil, local tomatoes, again all the food was really good, I don't even like tomatoes much but these were blistered and fresh, yum. Really nice food, the only reason we're giving a four star is the bar wait time later in the evening. As a new hotel and restaurant overall things were really great! We would definitely eat here again if we're down there. read more
