    Brisket

Love me some Butcher's Smokehouse BBQ! I've had a bit of everything here and everything has been tasty: *Beef Brisket - I always go for the fattier cut because I can't resist! Melt in your mouth. BUT I will say that I noticed a bit of a quality change. The most recent time I came, the brisket was a much tougher. *Pork Ribs - not as melt off the bone as Franklin's in ATX BUT still pretty dang close and great for Bloomington! *Pulled Pork - classic. no complaints here! *Mac and Cheese - this was just okay. pretty standard crowd pleaser *Mustard Potato Salad - I do love their potato salad because of the mustard as I'm not a big mayo fan You can pick from 4 different BBQ sauces for your order. My favorite is the Carolina because I like the tanginess. & if you like them enough, they even sell bottled versions! 99/365

Full rack dry rub ribs, sauce on the side. Mac-n-cheese.

We stopped for lunch on a Sunday. Everything looked and tasted pre-made and heated up. The meat is served dry and you select from a variety of pre-packaged sauces. The sauces were tasty but directly out of fridge - so you have warm meat and cold sauce. I would rather have a squirt bottle of room temp cheap sauce on the table than mixing temperatures like that. The best item we ordered was the beef brisket: tender and flavorful. Full rack pork ribs are dry rub smoked and chewy (rib tips were the best bites). The pulled pork tasted good but was pretty dry. Sides are generous portions. Cornbread was good, baked beans had two kinds of beans and some meat bits and very smoky. Slaw, Mac-n-Cheese, and potato salad were filling but bland. We had leftovers and took it home for a second meal. If I went back, I'd get a brisket or pork sandwich and skip the rest.

Brisket sandwich- with cornbread. The brisket is super tender!

So if a highly rated butcher shop opened a restaurant specializing in meat, you'd go wouldn't you? I mean, it has to be good, right? That is the Butcher's Smokehouse. Right next to the Butcher's Block there is a fabulous new find that takes the high quality meats that the Butcher's Block already has, and they smoke them and serve them. As for the details, my wife and I visited on a Thursday night. There were a few diners as word is starting to get out, but it's a soft open, so limited menu and they are still working on some things. But they have mastered the meats. I had the brisket sandwich. The brisket was piled high, thick cut and super tender. They left just the right amount of fat in it too. Very moist. It stands on its own, but there are sauces too if you like your BBQ with sauce. I tried two of the 4 barbecue sauce options. They offer a traditional, a sweet and tangy, and a couple of Carolina style sauces- mustard based and vinegar based I think... I didn't try them this time but next time I will for sure. So far, the sweet and tangy is the winner. Be sure to get that. They also sell this on bottled in case you want to bring it home for your own barbecue. My wife got the pulled pork sandwich. Also piled high, moist and tender. She also agreed that the sweet and tangy was the way to go. So far they have just ribs, chicken salad, brisket and pulled pork on the menu. As for sides, cole slaw, greens, cornbread, and a couple of other choices. Drinks so far were just bottled Coke products, lemonade and tea. And if you'd like dessert, they do a brownie sundae and a root beer float. We saw both, but didn't partake tonight. The float is made with Sprecher's Root Beer, so I already have a good vibe about it. Prices are reasonable. A sandwich, side and soft drink will hit in the $10-$12 range, or you can order meats by the half pound. The manager indicated that over the coming weeks they will add other meat choices to the menu- but again, with the reputation that the Butcher Block has (4.5 Yelp stars) whatever they cook has to be good. My experience shows that they know how to cook it. So this will be a winner for sure. The seating is limited, so I can see in the future, that coming at a peak time there may not be anywhere to sit. So go now, before the line is out the door and there's no place to sit. It won't be long until the word gets out. See you there!

I tried a half slab of their St. Louis ribs and I liked it very much. The ribs were covered with a light non-spicy rub that created a good thin bark. I usually like ribs smoked more so I can taste it (not too much) in the meat. The ribs here were not like that but they were still very good and tasty. Try them with the Sweet and tangy Sauce and you'll love it. I can't wait to try the other stuff on their menu. Enjoy!

Still very good and great value! They play very good music, my kind anyway. For the brisket, definitely get the half pounds and not sliced. Mac & cheese is exceptional.

Great flavors, good portions, great staff! If you're visiting Bloomington please do yourself a favor and add Butcher's to your list!

Great flavors and perfect "doneness" to the meats. Cornbread is a must have with your meal so don't skip on ordering it if you were first inclined. If you're visiting Bloomington, Butcher's Smokehouse better be on your list of places to eat while here. Oh and yes, Momma and Pops approved!

The beef brisket sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese.
    Allison E.

Pretty good brisket sandwich, and the side of Mac and cheese was creamy and peppery. Overall, I'm satisfied with my meal, and I'll be happy to come back and try a different sauce and side. I had the traditional sauce which was delicious, although I wish it hadn't been cold, and I personally prefer a spicier sauce. Good price for good BBQ, and there aren't a whole lot of good BBQ places in town.

Sandwich was completely soggy and flavorless. Cant believe it cost 10 bucks. Took a few bites and threw it away.

The 1/2 slab of spare ribs is really quite amazing! Quite the best around here. No extra sauce needed!

I cannot say enough good things about this place. So let's start from the very beginning. We went…read moreinside and we noticed the scripture on the wall. As this was definitely a faith inspired business. There were many awards from the community on the walls as well, and it was a very nice vibe overall. From there we were promptly greeted. They asked if we'd been here before, we said it was our first time. From there they explained what today's specials were. If we wanted to, we could take a menu and find our own seats and decide what we wanted and then could come back up and order. We chose to sit down at a booth and a gentleman in a Phat Daddy's t shirt happen to be sitting in front of us. Today's special wad $1.50 wings. The gentleman that was sitting in the booth recommended the honey sriracha wings. So we took his advice and after speaking with him, we ordered. We got the wings, We got the fat daddy's combo, which came with four meats and three sides. We had ribs, pulled pork, grilled chicken, and brisket. For our sides, he explained that he had both spicy and regular baked beans. We chose spicy because we thought we could handle the heat, big mistake lol, even though they were delicious, they were very spicy as he said. He was kind enough to bring us his regular baked beans to try which were delicious as well. We also got cornbread and if I had to make any type of negative comment, it would be that the cornbread was a little dry and dense, but still had a very good flavor, and then we had the mac and cheese, which was superb. He asked us what we had for drinks. We told him what we got, and he said, well, there's Kool Aid around the corner. I said say less. He gave me a free sample to try and it was delicious. There is an art to making kool aid, and this gentleman definitely had it. I said, how much I enjoyed it. So he actually gave me a free cup on top of what we already had to drink. We also ordered the taco trio, which came with pulled pork brisket and the chicken. Then we also ordered a side of fried okra. So we sat down and we waited for our food to come. First was the fried okra. Now, I'll be honest, I was not a fan of okra growing up but my wife loves it. So I said, let's give it a try. Another home run. The fried okra was crunchy, fresh and right out of the fryer. It had great flavor and it did not disappoint. A few minutes after that, all of our food came out. The portion size for all of this food is insane. You could definitely order one meal and share it with two people. I immediately went for the wings because I am a wing connoisseur, so I wanted to try em. Hands down these had to be the best wings I've ever had. They were perfectly crunchy. The sauce was amazing and the meat inside was juicy. I then dug into the sides, and this is where I found out just how spicy the baked beans were that I mentioned earlier. The mac and cheese was spot on, and again like I said, if I had to mention one negative, it would be just that the cornbread was a little dry, but once you dipped them in the baked beans, you totally forgot about that. Now onto the meat. The ribs were gigantic and tasted like they just came off the grill. A charcoal grill for that matter, which the owner confirmed later on when we spoke to him. The sliced chicken breast was very good and very moist, but my two favorites had to have been the pulled pork and the brisket. When you got a bite of the brisket with the bark, it was amazing. The flavor was over the top, and I could not have asked for a better bite. All in all everything from top to bottom was amazing. But I think what really put it over the top was just how sweet, kind and friendly these people are. Again, I cannot say enough about this establishment. The food and the people who run it. We will definitely be back more and more. I know these folks are gonna be catering a few of our parties this year. If you're out towards the ellotsville/bloomington area, I suggest you try Phat Daddy's barbecue. You will not be disappointed.

We ordered here today based on the reviews and were excited, it fell short. Our order was supposed…read moreto be ready at 12:41pm, we didn't get it until after 1:30pm. One platter was supposed to have ribs, they weren't included, and rib tips were substituted with no communication. When we asked, we were told they didn't have any available. The tips were tough, full of fat and gristle, the waitress offered no remedy. I asked for flat cut brisket, that request wasn't followed. I got very fatty chunky portions that a lot of my party simply couldn't eat. The brisket had very little smoke flavor and didn't taste fresh. The "tenderloin" doesn't look like what's advertised, it's a thin, frozen, fried patty, and it was cold. The baked beans don't look as advertised either and tasted thin, like they came right out of a can. The penne mac and cheese was the worst, no flavor, not even cheese flavor, which is weird. It tasted like noodles in yellow water. The lemon icebox pie was frozen solid with a refrigerator taste. This item was forgotten from our order. When I brought it to the waitress's attention, she told me she'd given it to me separately, that wasn't true. I had laid out every item from my order on a table and didn't leave because I wanted to check accuracy, since we could hear other customers with the same issue of forgotten items. I genuinely don't know where the positive reviews are coming from. Everything was low quality. We were disappointed and feel taken advantage of, given the advertising versus what you actually get.
