The Ultimate Pastry Shop opened in 1987. It bakes and sells desserts such as cookies, cupcakes, tarts, pies, and cakes. During my visit, in the display cases, I saw desserts such as blueberry cookies, danishes, raisin oat scones, raspberry muffin tops, sticky buns, apricot rugelach, banana bread, chocolate chip bread, peanut butter bars, cheesecake brownies, etcetera. I even saw a gluten-free option. My husband and I picked out several treats. An employee carefully wrapped and boxed them. The total cost was less than $10. Here are my ratings for the treats: Snickerdoodle cookie - 4 stars Sugar cookie with icing and sprinkles - 5 stars - You might expect a sugar cookie to be plain, but this one tasted delicious. Chocolate chip cookie - 3 stars Oatmeal raisin cookie - 4 stars Lady lock - 5 stars - My husband commented that he really enjoyed the buttercream icing inside. Cinnamon roll - 4 stars - This cinnamon roll was very dry, but after we put some butter on it and microwaved it, it became more moist. It had nice flavors. read more

I've always ordered special occasion cakes from the Ultimate Pastry Shop..and it's not their product I have a gripe about..it's the employees..it's funny because in my next two conversations with friends, as soon as I mentioned where I bought the cake from, before anything was even said, both friends said the employees at the UPS are borderline rude..I own a business and your employees are a reflection of the business owners..there's never a " hi, how are you today?..can I get you something?" Instead you get a dead pan look and a cut and dry " what do ya want?"..and a "what else"..you'd think in an upscale town like Sewickley where the clientele are used to being treated with kindness and respect , that the UPS could find a tad more friendly employees..their sweets are good..they now need to " sweeten" up their employees!! read more

My dad used to get my brother and I cinnamon rolls and brownies from this place some mornings 20 years ago. I cherished those mornings. It made getting ready for school kinda chill. I've been seeing family a lot lately and have been bringing snacks from this place and am amazed. I don't know how they achieve such big flavor-town. Particularly, their cinnamon rolls, peanut butter bars, and carrot cake bars are explosively flavorful. Everything is good - you really can't go wrong; even their simple strawberry and lemon iced cookies are delicious. Definitely worth sampling an assortment every once in a while (I didn't try the carrot cake bars since they dropped - perhaps 20 years ago - and regret it). Love the variety here and the average strength of flavor. Texture profiles are ubiquitously comfortingly soft. I am not going here for a grain bar. Great service. There are often five or ten customers in front of me, but I've never had to wait more than five minutes. After my 20 year hiatus, I figured they'd still be a cash-only place, but they take cards. I'd gladly keep cash on hand just to frequent this place. So friendly. I had family in town for the winter holidays, including my brother who had shared those pleasurable morning treats with me 20 years ago, and reaching the store a few minutes after they closed for their winter break - heartbroken - I found a sympathetic employee striding towards the door and willing to serve me last-minute. My girlfriend and I stopped here to get a sweet treat for dessert. The have a small table area up front if you wish to eat in but for the most part it is take out. The pastry shop has quite a selection to choose from. From breakfast pastries to rugelach you can find most anything here. They have a vast assortment of cookies and on the center table are prepackaged items for purchase. In the refrigerated see through you can see lovely cakes and cupcakes made fresh. They don't have any vegan options here but they do have gluten free. I inquired about the cakes and was told a small 6 inch one is about $18.00. The two of us however wanted to try the cupcakes so we both purchased a chocolate raspberry one. They were reasonably priced at just under $3.00 and it was a descent size. Needless to say when I got home to try it is was melt in your mouth good! Things here always look pretty. Some of their decorated holiday cakes are spectacular. But for my taste, the cakes were not as good as they looked. I like their danish and the chocolate mousse cake alot. Cookies are hit or miss. Service is friendly and welcoming and of course the Village is cute. This is my first time in Sewickley and i was in town for a week. I was on my lunch break and decide to walk from the hospital and into the town. I love pastery and cookies so this was a must after lunch. The place is pretty clean and bright inside. I ordered a chocolate cookie, snicker doodles, and a double dip chocolate chip. The cookies average was about .75 cents and was reasonably priced. They had so many different types of cookies to choose from. Unfortunately, they do no have a sugar free or a semi sweet cookie. The person that was taking my order was very friendly and service with a smile. I told her i was taking pictures for yelp.com but they have never heard of the website. So she called the bakery chef and i she questioned me why i was taking pictures. It seemed though she was worried in a unfriendly matter though but the cashier was nice. All and all, it's a great find if you have a sweet tooth. I'll post up the pictures soon and hopefully Pittsburgh will find out more about yelp. read more

I stopped in here for a cookie based on a recommendation that they were the best in town. Upon walking in, there were a few customers but the staff behind the cases greeted me immediately and asked what I'd like. I said I hadn't been in before and asked a few questions about the cookies before settling on a "Dalmatian," which was a soft chocolate chip cookie with white chocolate chips and topped with a layer of buttercream frosting. Although there were many other delicious looking options (perhaps twenty plus), my boyfriend asked for a Dalmatian as well. Our total was $1.90 (95¢ a piece!). We grabbed a few napkins and sat at the table in the window. The cookies were great, very soft and moist. The buttercream was outstanding! Great cookies plus friendly service and reasonable prices is a winner in my book. I would totally have ordered more except my willpower was strong. I will definitely stop back by here and my only complaint is that I live so far away (although maybe that's good for my waistline!). read more

I don't know if it's me or them, but their hours seem erratic and somehow always cut short. If I owned a little bakery I would certainly be open on light up night, small business Saturday, during all of the parades, etc. etc. etc. Maybe they have good reason not to- I don't know. There is no doubt that their cookies with buttercream icing Are phenomenal. Just delicious. All of their cookies and brownies are delicious. I haven't ever gotten a full cake from them, but I know they require refrigeration. The iced brownies are top notch, but you really want to go to the case that's immediately in front of you as you walk in the store and get one of the thin cookies with puffy buttercream icing on it. They usually have a good assortment of gluten free items and the staff is always helpful. I love their cute front window displays and the front seating area. I am so disappointed in what was supposed to be king cakes for Mardi Gras. I ordered 28 cakes to deliver to clients throughout town for the 4th consecutive year. Each year the quality had been pretty good. But this year I was embarrassed when my client opened the box in front of me and what was supposed to be a King Cake looked like I baking class mistake. The cinnamon rolls are the best I've ever had! And I personally LOVE their sugar sprinkle cookies. SO good. Staff isn't super friendly, and I haven't tried much else to give more than 4 stars. But I highly recommend the sprinkle cookies and the cinnamon rolls! But be aware, on Saturday's, if you don't get there early enough, the cinnamon rolls may be sold out. You can never go wrong here. Everything tastes amazing. Ordered 11 dozen cookies recently for a bridal shower and the cookies were perfection! Everyone loved them. The last time I ordered a cake here, they smashed the top of the cake when they put it in a box and didn't offer to fix it. I was frustrated. Where do I even start? I got hooked when I delivered my son on my birthday at the hospital right next to this gem. Friends and family visited bearing gifts of pasties and other delicious sweet from here. The black bottom cupcake is probably my favorite here. A moist, chocolate cupcake with swirls of cheesecake inside. Sometimes they even have full cakes of it. I snag those immediately. Their cinnamon rolls are also to die for. They make great gifts too. Most of the cakes on display were decorated for the steeler playoff game. Bill has been making 3-D cakes for us for years - a golf cart with woodland animals for my husband's birthday, a puppy dog for our daughter's birthday, a large peacock with cupcakes for tail feathers, and so much more! My family have always been huge fans of this place; my older sister even worked here for years and had a good time with it. Their cookies mean everything to me, and when I was diagnosed with celiac, I thought that meant the end of eating from here, but no! They make gluten free treats often, and you can specially order things gluten free. It was a dream come true; I had my 16th birthday cake made gluten free here and it was amazing, and before I left for college, my mother had ordered some gluten free iced sugar cookies, which are my everything as I said.
