They were very proactive on how we wanted to be seated with a seven month old. I enjoyed two of their bloody Mary's! One was actually the jalapeño bloody Maria with tequila. And the other was the Tabasco spicy bloody Mary. Oh yeah, the food was awesome! I had the crab cake Benedict. My wife had a huge omelette. My son had the breakfast burrito. Everything was great! Also, it's walking distance from where we were staying. A great plus for Gloucester. Don't miss this place for breakfast or lunch when you come to Gloucester!

I'm happy to report that the igloos available now are so much nicer, big, bright and clear and you can enjoy all of the beautiful water views. There is however a fee of $15pp for this experience. We dined with some friends and everybody enjoyed their cocktails and food. I started with the bang bang shrimp appetizer. What a bargain for $18! There were maybe 8-10 very large shrimp, and they were perfectly cooked. The fried haddock/chips was great, fish was crispy and delicious, but unfortunately the fries were not good and did not match the caliber of the food served. Limp, and probably were hanging around under a heat lamp :-( Overall, service was OK. Food arrived fairly staggered and one entree was very late. The runner confessed and said he dropped the plate and it had to be remade. It would have been nice if the server informed us. Despite the minor service hiccups (very young and likely inexperienced staff), the atmosphere and food are worth it. Give them a try!

Most of the servers and runners appeared to be high school or early college aged which meant service could be a little hit or miss at times (it was also very busy) but they were all very friendly. Charlie's Place Gloucester Mass…read moreWe decided to visit Gloucester in February 2026 as a way to help our relative get her new home ready for move-in. We took a Saturday off to do a little touring. After spending the morning touring Cape Ann, enjoying all the beauty there was to behold, we decided to go to Charlie's Place for lunch. It has the feel of a hometown diner without any appearance of a greasy spoon. The interior is very well maintained, extremely clean and pleasantly decorated. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. My sister-in-law had the pepper burger, which was smothered in red and green peppers and she ate every bite. She also enjoyed a cup of the fish stew. She has returned to Charlie's many times to have it again and again, it is that good! Large chunks of haddock crowd the serving while swimming in a buttery, thin, creamy broth. My husband and I made a meal of splitting three items: a bowl of the clam chowder, which has the authentic New England taste we were looking for, a simple turkey sandwich on rye and a side salad which was huge. We felt completely at ease in this restaurant which is obviously a local favorite and left feeling stuffed. The prices are very affordable. We truly enjoyed every bite in our first, but definitely not the last, time visiting Charlie's.

It's a nice and lively place with a beautiful marsh view at the deck area, a very pleasant area to sit in during summer. They don't take reservations, so be prepared to wait for a bit if you want a table. The service was good and the food came out pretty quickly. I got a bountiful fish n' chips, enough for two people to split which was a nice surprise. The clam chowder and calamari were top notch as well, and everything tasted very fresh which isn't a surprise given the location. Nice big chunks of clams in there which I appreciate. The portions overall were great. I caught a glimpse of other dishes and they looked quite elaborate! If you're into tuna, there's a layered tuna lasagna looking thing that a lot of people seemed to get. The seared salmon also seemed great. Next time I might try lobster!
