Overall, I thought the Cake Shop did a decent job for an engagement party we had at the Hilton Garden Inn at Austin Landing. I worked with Rachel to lend her my creative vision for the design of the cake. The cake was delivered early to the hotel and the fresh flowers that were to be put on it were never placed on the cake. I would say the design came out perfectly, but I would be wary of using them for a more complicated set-up of the cake using fresh flowers and such (I'd give a 3 out of 4 stars). We ordered several flavors (strawberry with whipped cream, carrot cake, and chocolate cake with Bavarian chocolate filling). The Cake Shop did my daughter's birthday cakes (yes, two of them!) for her first birthday party. I wanted a bit of a splurge cake so I got two cakes professionally made which seemed very strange to my frugal Midwest family. Worth it! We decided to go with a Yo Gabba Gabba themed "main" cake (the one for the grown ups) and a small custom cake for the birthday girl. The two cakes were $50 altogether, which seems a little bit steep but I have never ordered a cake from a bakery and I'm used to Costco sheet cakes. The "main" large cake was beautiful, they bakers totally used my guidance and came up with a great, inspired piece of cake-art. I loved it! Trendy and cute and yummy. It was chocolate with buttercream frosting and it was just DELISH! In fact, my mouth is watering just thinking about this cake. YUM! The small cake (the smash cake) for my daughter was very cute. I asked for pink and green with her name on it and it came out looking very nice. This may be totally standard, because its just a 'smash cake', but it didn't taste as decadent as the larger cake. And yes, my kid ate only about two handfuls on her smash cake and the rest was for mom and dad. I understand why the smash cake was less indulgent so its really not a problem for me. FABULOUS! I ordered a cake for a surprise 70th birthday party for my sister. The staff was patient and very helpful in assisting me with cake flavors, size, icing type and decorations. I was very pleased with the appearance when I picked it up...but the taste totally blew me away! It was positively THE BEST cake I'd ever eaten! The party was a mix of older and younger folks plus kids. The staff suggested I get 4 types of cake in the full sheet that I ordered: yellow, strawberry, red velvet and carrot. The older folks raved about the carrot and red velvet - they were moist and melted in your mouth! The younger set seemed to want the strawberry and yellow, to equally positive comments. We had quite a few who came back asking for seconds and only had 4-6 small pieces to take home. Wish now I'd just done half & half of the carrot and red velvet, but that's for purely selfish reasons! : ) I had several people who wanted to know where the cake came from and I told them it was worth the drive to Beavercreek for this cake! What a gem this place is! My husband's 30th birthday was in December, and I had been planning a special surprise for the big day. He LOVES Dunkin' Donuts and I thought it would be cute to get him a custom Dunkin' Donuts cake shaped like a Dunkin' Donuts cup. As a fairly new resident in the area, I had no experience with any local bakeries, nor did I have any recommendations. I just started Googling & Yelping, and calling around. The Cake Shop was so kind to me over the phone, speaking to me several times and answering my many questions. Additionally, of all the bakeries I called, they were the cheapest! For a 1/4 of a sheet single-layer cake with buttercream frosting, it was about $35. The other places I called were at least $20 more for the same size cake. I didn't have much to go on, however their Facebook page was buzzing with compliments from satisfied customers, so I went with them. They told me they only needed a day or two notice (unlike the others who wanted me to lock it in MONTHS in advance and put down a deposit!) and to bring in a picture to show what I wanted. Ordering the cake in the shop was a breeze, I was able to pay in advance, and as an extra cool bonus, they give you a 5% discount if you pay in cash! Score! Since this was a surprise, I had a friend pick up the cake and I wasn't going to see it until the surprise, at the same time my hubby saw it for the first time. I was nervous not being able to see it beforehand, but it turned out GREAT! I couldn't be happier with it! The cake and frosting tasted delicious, and the custom design was perfect. I only had 4 people to feed, so the 1/4 sheet was PLENTY. We were eating cake for days, and it stayed really fresh. I would definitely recommend The Cake Shop for custom cakes and will use again. read more

Awful cake and poor customer service. Ordered a $75.00 10" carrot cake for Mom's 90th bday party. Cake was beautifully decorated, however, absolutely inedible. The driest, no flavor cake that I have ever tasted. The frosting was awful too, gritty and did not taste like cream cheese frosting. Very disappointing. No one ate the cake. Absolute waste of money!!
