Was out in PHX back in February for work and needed to get my hair done for an event. I called and they squeezed me in. I went in just for a blow out, but Patricia was really knowledgeable. She recommended some color for my hair with a glaze to make it look healthier. My hair is so brittle and I'm really self conscious about it. I got the color glaze and a very minimal trim. Blowout etc and afterward I felt so amazing! My hair looked awesome and I felt like a million bucks going to my client meeting. I wish I had a place like this near me. Thankfully a rad coworker who has an eye for fashion/style pointed me in the direction of Salvador Calvano Hair. You can read about all Salvador and Patty's amazing work on their website but in a nutshell: they're legit stylists. From runways to magazines, they've traveled the globe doing what they love....and now they've set up shop in Phoenix. Their salon has this industrial chic feel with vintage items, photography, and artwork on the walls. I read somewhere how someone described it as looking more like an art gallery than a salon. Pretty spot on. But it's not like a stuffy art gallery where you can't touch anything and people walk around with their noses turned up. On the contrary, Salvador and Patty welcomed me with open arms making me feel more than welcome in their space. Within minutes I felt like I had known them for years. As usual, I sat down, said that I'm open to anything, and let them do their thing. After some discussion between the two Patty said, "I love your natural waves. How about a wash, scrunch, and go style. No blow drying needed." Music to me ears. I'd say she read me quite well. So that's the direction we went. I walked away not only loving my hair but Salvador and Patty too. After living in Phoenix for 2 years I've searched high and low for a hair salon. I've come across some great people and salons. I have been in Yelptirement since 2009, but decided to log in one more time to spread the word about the very best hair salon west of the Mississippi. I am struggling to find the right string of superlatives to describe the dynamic duo that is Salvador and Patti. And I think that is why I have never written a review. The salon itself is clean, filled with natural light, hip and comfortable all at the same time. It reminds me more of an artist's space than a hair salon, which is appropriate, because Salvador is a creative multi-talented superstar, as is evident by the amazing photographs filling the salon, musical instruments and portfolio of work as a hairdresser, which includes runway shows at New York Fashion Week, magazine photo shoots (like Vogue), and A-list stars. But as the other reviewer notes - don't be intimidated because Salvador is a totally down to earth guy with a big heart. Trust me -- this is a place you want to hang out. Salvador has a special talent for making you look like the very best version of yourself. I usually just tell him to "make it look good" and give him full artistic license. I have never been disappointed with the result, which is without fail, chic, wearable and easy to style myself. I went from getting my hair cut monthly to quarterly, because his cuts look as good growing out as when you leave the salon. During our "relationship" he has helped me grow my hair out long (it always used to break off at shoulder length), and more recently, he has taken it almost pixie short (which I love). I could go on and on, about how he can transform fried over-processed hair, tame ferocious curls, undo the mistakes of other colorists... and about what an awesome addition his partner in crime, Patti, is to the salon (hint - bring your significant other, and you will both walk out looking like superstars). If you want the best hair in Arizona go here. Salvador and Patty Calvano are incredible. Patty has been styling my hair for 3 years. She does four of my friends' hair, and Salvador does my friend, Heather's hair. We all love them and the work they do. The environment can't be beat. It's urban sophistication, welcoming and intimate. Lots of amazing photography shot by Salvador on the walls. For me- it's a welcome change from the salons with dozens of chairs... this salon is Salvador and Patty, their assistant, you, and some other smart person (or maybe your friend) getting their hair done. There could easily be 15 chairs or more in this space, but it's just the two of them. It's an awesome environment. They are wonderful people, and extremely talented. Their backgrounds in hair are impressive, and this is evident in the quality of their craft. Patty has styled me for photo shoots and events a few times. The photo shoots she's styled me for have been the most successful of any others. This is the best salon, and the two best hairdressers in Arizona. I don't leave many reviews but this was necessary. Salvador is truly a hair artist. He is a perfectionist who knows how to make your hair look the best it can, and he can tell you how to keep it looking that way when you go home too. He and Patty provide a welcoming, relaxed salon that has a super cool vibe. I don't live in AZ, but since my first appointment 3 years ago, he's been the only one to cut my hair - it's worth the trip! To top it off, his mint clarifying shampoo is the best I've ever used. Patti made my hair vision come to life!! I had a bunch of pictures and wasn't exactly sure which direction to go and she cut and styled my hair better than I could have imagined. She was also conservative and didn't go crazy with cutting the length off making sure I was comfortable with the length before she started. I Definitely recommend this Salon, both Patti and Salvador are great people and stylists! read more

This place is wonderful, and Patty (who did my hair) is amazing. She did the cut and color, and is helping to phase it back to a less in your face platinum blonde. Oh, so you want seriously awesome superstar hair? This is the place my friends. Not only will you walk out so seriously in love with your hair but you'll have a memorable experience to boot. The owner Salvador is a rock star in the hair arena himself -- he has run his fingers through the tresses of tons of A-listers and super models. Ask him, he'll tell you (he's not at all shy about it). But don't be intimidated by that -- he's a cool, laid-back guy with a Bohemian attitude, a sharp sense of humor and killer taste in music. He also has the most incredible line of hair products -- the Mint Clarifying Shampoo and Surf Cream are a must (you can thank me later). Be sure to give his sidekick, Tahoe the golden retriever, a belly rub before you leave for good luck and you'll be set! read more

I've had my hair cut by both Salvador and Patty and they both do great work. Their salon is clean, the atmosphere is laid back and awesome, etc., etc. I trust their opinions about what will look best and they've not led me astray in that regard. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend. read more

This place is so unique and cool! I have been going here for 5 years! Patty is a great colorist and stylist I recently went in to get bangs for a vacation and it was such a fun experience. I had pictures of the choppy look I wanted and she hit it spot on! Bangs are definitely not easy but it's a quick fix if you want a new look. 7 years ago, I was sitting in a well known noxious fumed, loud, hair salon in Scottsdale when I picked up a magazine with an article "welcoming back" a true artist, the stylist to A-listers, a gem of Arizona, Salvador Calvano. A description of his work and the inviting studio prompted me to make an appointment. That was 7 years ago and I haven't strayed since. Since that day, I have loved my hair. My once tortured hair has been rescued with a knowledgeable stylist and the development of his own line of fine hair products. The studio is non pretentious, laid back and relaxing. There is only a few people in the studio at a time making it a very personal and enjoyable experience. My husband is even comfortable going to appointments with me. He can enjoy the sun filled patio, a game of pool or engage in conversation. Yes, you can actually carry on a conversation. In fact, Salvador is also a photographer, musician and very well traveled so there is much to talk about. Salvador's talent and accomplishment speak for themselves. Be sure to check out his book. You will be blown away when you realize where this man has been and what he has done. On a side note but just as important, Salvador is a true community supporter.
