Stopped into The Camino tonight and grabbed a seat at the bar. Bartenders were friendly and had a good sense of humor, which made it a solid start. The Monday margarita special is a nice deal too -- and the margaritas were really good. Food was the letdown. Took about 40+ minutes to get three tacos, and when they finally came out they were ice cold. At that price point, that's pretty disappointing. Presentation looked fine, but it doesn't matter much if the food isn't even warm. Drinks and service at the bar were great -- kitchen just didn't match the rest of the experience tonight. read more

We used to Love the Camino. We were weekly regulars. The staff used to be (some of the few left are) lovely. Everything else has become a colossal disappointment, mainly the quantity and quality of food relative to the cost. The quesadilla used to be twice this size for less. I'd call this place upscale Mexican. Not the standard Mexican but Mexican with a high-class twist. Definitely a hipster/trendy vibe with lots of young professionals. It was packed but we were able to get in and sit at the bar. The bartender was friendly and helpful. The house margaritas hit the spot. For food we split the guacamole, the crabmeat tostada, the huarache and the ceviche. A little bit pricy and not super large portions. The guacamole was amazing and came with a bucket of chips. The tacos are fantastic! I highly recommend the carne asada and shrimp tacos. So good I went back for a second of each. The fried chicken is more like a hard fish stick, so I'd steer clear of that one. The house margaritas are also a great addition for a taco feast. Service was great. Just moved to Montana from Ventura, CA. Good spot if you want a light (and expensive), decent meal. If you want Mexican food, skip, skip, skip. The wait staff was wonderful but the food was not N Mexican or even Tex-mex in any way shape or form. The food was good (other than the tiny portions) - I can't stress enough how tiny, but expensive, the portions were. The Camino is not Mex or Tex-Mex in any way. I LOVE Mexican food, so I was excited to try this place. It's kind of a fancier, tapas-style restaurant, so don't expect to get cheap Mexican food in big quantities. The guacamole is very good, and I liked the shrimp taco. The mushroom taco had a weird texture; it was hard to bite through the mushroom bits. And my friend got the mussels and felt sick afterward, so we wonder how fresh they were... Too expensive for Mexican food in my opinion, and the small portions aren't worth the extra cost. read more

We ate there in January 2023 when we were in town for a bridge tournament. I've been thinking about it ever since. We moved to SoCal in 2024 where there are literally Mexican restaurants on every corner. Nothing that even comes close to The Camino. We started with the quezo appetizer which was excellent. Had the guacamole and chips which were delicious! Then we shared the cochinita pibil which was one of the tastiest dishes I've ever had. Our service was also wonderful even though the place was packed on a Saturday night. And the decor was fantastic! Don't listen to any of the naysayers on here. This place is straight up delicious. We dropped by on a Wednesday for an early dinner and ate outside - we had to wait about ten minutes for our seat. Service was fast and friendly, even in a very busy environment. We both got frozen margaritas - which were pleasantly tart and boozy and celebratory. We also got guacamole which was generously portioned and fresh. For the main course we shared some small plates. The best by far and away was the quesadilla with sweet corn. It was a bit more like a taco in terms of how it looked - it was both crispy and cheesy and delicious. For dessert we had the churros - again a very reasonable portion size and both crispy and soft at the same time, with dark chocolate that was completely delicious. First things first, the service was PHENOMENAL. Pleasant, kind, helpful and prompt. The food, well that depends on your dedication to some authentic Mexican food, I suppose? I was personally underwhelmed. My husband on the other hand couldn't shovel his food in fast enough. Part of my problem (I believe) was I had to send my food back because someone was getting fancy with the cilantro in the kitchen. When your menu tells you all of the ingredients in a dish and the patron chooses meals without cilantro ...please don't improvise on my plate and add extra ingredients. If I was a cilantro lover this review would probably look different but I am not and now I am hungry and waiting on my food that was sent back. Y'all know the "hangry" drill right? I am 100% hangry right now waiting. The drinks, ARE AMAZING. Such a nice selection. If I wasn't so hungry, I would probably just sit here and drink myself under the table. Yup, they are that good. The location...eh, as a local Missoulian, my feelings are a bit biased on downtown restaurants because of the goofy traffic, streets and parking. Ok I am tip-toeing around it. I hate the location.
