I'm a big fan of the anti-mall trend popping up around Orange County. This place has a green/hipster grind vibe. There are different selections of food but not too many. This place is small potatoes compared to Anaheim packing district (I think). I wouldn't make a trip just for it. If ur looking for some place new to see and ur already around the area, do stop by. The sounds of compressors, nail guns and saws are fantastic for the over priced, difficult parking (valet closes at 3), lackluster restuarants. Certainly would not come back. There isn't much for me at this shopping center besides ACTIVE and the pricey bike shop(cycle werks). I've heard from friends Native Foods is the spot but never get the chance to actually go in and grab some grub. Seems to be busy each time i go there so it must be good! I haven't checked out any of the other places so I can't actually make a full review. If you're at the LAB across the street, I'd say J walk and check this place out! read more

What a great center! This has to be one if the best planned specialty shopping/rating centers in OC. They layout and the architectural design is fabulous! It has the "hipster" feeling, with the landscape to match. It's the perfect place to meet for coffee or a bite to eat! They also have some of the best specialty dining around! With that said, everything is a bit expensive, but in my opinion well worth it. read more

Take a cab because you won't find a place to park now that half of the parking lot is for valet. Or call ahead and order lunch from East / Borough (banh mi sandwich, spring rolls, or a grapefruit-lemongrass salad); they'll bring it out to your car as you roll by. Then get the heck out of there because you'll lose any level of new-age bliss you've got dealing with the parking. The camp itself is a place I always want to be around. It creates a fun and outgoing atmosphere with the crowd and people are work here. Really neat small shops as well as great restaurants that keep me coming back The parking here can get crowded but the valet guys really bust out their hardwork and ensure everyone gets parking. The services they provided were phenomenal and they went out of their way to ensure I knew all different parts of the camp as well as the lab across the street. They were nice and professional personnel who have lots of customer experience. They were well worth paying for the services and have lots of respect for the effort these valet attendants put in to find accommodate parking. You guys are awesome!! read more

Just across the highway from the mall and every conventional restaurant you can imagine is The Camp. The Camp is a new take on a strip mall housing Umami Burger, 180°, and Milk + Honey among others. If I was going to draw a picture of this place I would draw the food pyramid as a an equal lateral triangle and fill it with real food as it is served here. Restaurant and Retail experience where every shop has something unique about it. Tenants have been there for a while and for good reason. The ladies in the Blackmarket Bakery are super sweet. The coffee at Vitaly is my favorite. There are just so many little intricacies that make this little shopping center special. The parking lot itself even holds character, a little tight so during busy hours there will be people bustling for spots but I just make my life easy and go straight to the complimentary Valet. If you do luck out however, have a look at the phrase beneath the bay! I can tell Costa Mesa has a lot of pride for this little gem. read more

Welcome to the Camp -- where you can feel good about capitalism. The Camp is a fun little mall. It's quite small, with maybe ~20 or so shops, most of which are restaurants. And not just chain restaurants. I'm talking banh mi, street tacos, schmancy desserts, vegetarian and vegan meals, and others. The remaining shops sell bikes, outdoor gear, zen decor, and organic speciality foods. Everything has a relaxed vibe, with reclaimed wood panels, fire pits, hammocks, and other details designed to attract the yuppie demographic. The parking spaces even have little happy and inspiring messages painted on them. (Mine said "eat tofu.") The quality of everything sold here is pretty outstanding. In other words, the Camp should be prominently featured on Stuff White People Like. It's especially ironic that the Camp is just a block down from South Coast Plaza, which is the exact opposite kind of place. Having that hulking behemoth down the street makes the Camp seem that much greener. The whole thing does seem a little contrived and gimmicky, though. The Camp is still a strip mall after all, and no amount of greenery will hide that fact. Four stars... only because I *think* I saw Peggy from The Real Housewives of Orange County buying home decor at Viva Eclectico. read more

I have this love/hate relationship with The CAMP. Parking can be pain in the butt, but I have learned that it all depends on what day or when you decide to go. Come in early on the weekday and you'll be fine. You're screwed if you come here after 4 PM or on the weekends. The good news about the parking is their personalized messages like "Focus", "Look for the Best", and "Don't Worry, Exercise". Funny...I didn't notice these messages until recently. Once you finally get parked, it's time to take advantage of what the CAMP has to offer. I've been here for breakfast at the Old Vine Cafe, lunch at Unami Burger, coffee at Vitaly, and just to hang out. Since The CAMP is fairly close to the airport, I've found myself here before my flights back to Vegas to relax or get some work done. The CAMP is small and can get a bit confusing to find your way around. Overall, I like The CAMP. I'm just not fond of their crazy packed parking lot. read more

Milk and Honey, Unami Burger, Native Foods and Black Market Bakery are the favorites. If you are coming to walk around which we did Saturday maybe 10 minutes max. A few very limited stores. I remember The CAMP when it was just in development but I was only in high school then so I didn't drive over often, haha. However, watching it grow and form to what it is now full of good eateries and cool people, I'm happy to see the result. It still is a little hipster-y but who doesn't love their food and fashion? Haha. It's a nicely packed place with plenty to do but if you're looking to just walk around, your visit will be short. The only complaint is how crazy the parking is! I always try to get here earlier than any meetings/events/appointments need me to be so I can circle around until I find a spot. read more

the CAMP is trying too hard to be cool. typical SoCal... ha! this is basically a strip mall that they decided to turn into a maze in a fake forest. there's wooding signs pointing everywhere and fake rocks with terrible maps. we were actually looking for a tea place that was in the G-section of this place according to this directory that was on a rock on the ground. the map itself had no G-section so we wandered aimlessly (as did some other people) until we found it (on the other side of the parking lot!!!)!!! oh and when we got to the tea place it was closed (of course)... even though everything else was opened. i was also confused by this girl who was drawing on a piece of paper with a pencil... and trying to sell it. or at least i think she was trying to sell it. maybe she just worked at one of the restaurants and was drawing on her break. stop trying to be cool... because you will never be... read more

I received incredible service from Pro Valet at The Camp today. I've always thought that the valet service at the camp was the best, but today I am especially grateful for them! As I pulled in, one of the valets, Dan, pointed out that I had a flat tire. He offered to change my tire while I went to my meeting. Then he dropped my flat tire off at American Tire up the street and asked them to repair it for me. All I had to do was drive over to American Tire after my meeting to pick up my patched tire. Dan was so nice and gave me Nordstrom style service! I was completely blown away! I still can't believe it. :) read more

I visited The CAMP while I was waiting for my tires to be installed at American Tires up the street. It felt like a cross between Portland and Vail, but all 100% fake and fabricated. This place is a big fail! Too much posturing and pretentiousness. I did enjoy my lunch at Umami burger. But, then the rest of my tour through The CAMP was a big disappointment, and I left asking myself questions. 1. Why would anyone purchase vastly overpriced hiking/camping gear here when they can purchase better stuff at REI, (at half the price for everything), and still get the same vibe? 2. Why do they sell and promote so many recycled items here, yet the buildings are all architecturally new and wasteful, and the trash bins were full of packaging waste? 3. The majority of cars in the lot were BMWs and Mercedes, wealthy hippies? 4. Why did a big group walk sweaty straight out of the yoga class and into the bakery? 5. There was a homeless black man sitting there asking for change, (next to Umami burger). Not one person even looked at him, as if he was completely invisible. Are these people blind? Kinda completely contrary to the overall contrived vibe of the place. I know people "LOVE" The CAMP, and they are going to slam this review. But that was what I saw, (7/1/2015). read more

Whose bright idea was it to put an Umami Burger here?! Now parking is the worst EVER when I'm trying to catch an evening yoga class. The parking situation here is now worse than The Lab on a weekend. Worse than South Coast Plaza during holiday season. Ugghhh I hate it but I need my yoga!!! They need to buy the neighboring lot and build a parking structure because there is no way in hell the 2 tiny little parking areas are enough for all the stores and restaurants that keep opening in this plaza. read more

I love The Camp. It's such another anti-mall (thanks Valhalla). I've been here to take a trip with someone to Outer Limits (where Kari herself was helping people at the desk), check out Taco Asylum (yay for overpriced tacos), shop at cool stores that actually pique my interest, and eat at Native Foods Cafe for the best realistic vegan food I've ever tasted and I'm not a vegan! I love the layout but the location is just so "out" there. Had a hard time finding it the very first time 'cause I'm a 'tard. It more than makes up for it with personality. Oh, did I mention that there's free wi-fi? Parking here kinda blows because it mirrors the situation at The Lab with finding a spot, even though there's a cool quote painted onto each spot. It's pretty cool. I usually don't like strip-malls, shopping malls, ESPECIALLY outdoor malls (honestly never liked camping either), but The Camp has won my heart over. read more

Unfortunately it is hard to find parking but I have found that the valet guys are very helpful and really take the stress away from tryijg to find a parking spot. This is a unique dining+small shopping center. It is catered to people who love outdoors, vegan, and unique activities. You have everything from a action sports store, to an upscale night club+bar in this plaza. Key places I recommend would be East Borrough for a quick bite, Active sports store for all your beach/streetwear, or any of the restaurants in the plaza for a great dinner for two. Only flaw in this area is the parking! Parking is very limited and cars are always hovering around trying to snatch the next spot available! There is valet available if you roll like that! Overall a great place to be with a significant other or just some quick shopping. read more

I went to this place for the first time. I'm so mad I found this place not earlier. In fact I work 1.2 miles away from this place and I went to school in irvine and I didn't try this place until today. I love this place. It's so artsy and everyone is so nice. many cute shops and watery. I want to try everything from this site. I went to 5 different shops today and planning to return soon. I also want to stop by at their sister mall across the street called LAB. If you go to camp, try The old vine for brunch or lunch and stop by at the black market bakery for collies and chocolates.
